>> the "news nation" is following the trail of denials as rick perry's campaign pushes back against the accusation and leaked the story to the press. cain is pointing the finger at perry campaign worker kurt anderson. cain said he shared details with anderson in 2003 while anderson was working for cain's senate campaign. anderson denies involvement. >> the allegation that i had something to do with it, there is not a reporter or human being will say it's true because it's not. >> here's something interesting to note. the campaign covering governor perry said the team is being careful not to call cain a liar or personally attack cain since he remains popular with conservatives. cain avoided the chaotic scene that played out. he is laying low while still in washington, d.c.

leaked this information. covering governor perry earlier, they are being very careful and not going after herman cain personally and saying he is a liar for fear. they could turn on perry here. what do you know about that? >> that are is exactly the instruction. you don't want to make the friends of herman cain your enemies. rick perry has a game plan and the game plan is to be the alternative to mitt romney. herman cain has a lot of voters and rick perry would like to have them. it's interesting here to watch inside the perry campaign because on the one hand this is the best thing that's happened to them in a long time. on the other hand, if they didn't have anything to do with it, then they are the luckiest. >> does it matter where the leak came from. if it is true, it's true. in politics, we like to think of

it as a gentlemen's sport or gentle woman's sport, but it's not. with john mccain, he had a black child and that set off tempers in the south from the bush camp that that rumor started. >> i think ultimately it matters whether the charge is true and in the short-term it will have significance in terms of who might have leaked it and whether it was an opposing candidate. that will not bode well. what i find significant, thus far there is no gain for mitt romney. conservatives are hanging tough whether in the context of these allegations that we don't know much about or the other faux passes. it underscores the disenchantment that conservatives still feel with mitt romney. >> you point out and you write about this on sunday. you believe romney is the loser

the best debate quips or newest allegations, we might have an interesting race for choices. with that said, should we talk more about the allegations that herman cain's campaign took tens of thousands of dollars violating election laws. are we missing something by getting caught up in sexual harassment or equally important? >> when it doubt, doubt the media especially in a conservative race for president. the media is always a good target for republicans. it's a tried and true playbook and i'm surprised it took him so long to go there. >> he went there the first day. >> that's true too. to go there in an organize and concerted way, should we talk about other aspects of candidacy? sure. it would be ludicrous to suggest

that the media has not talked about his policies and the 9-9-9 plan himself catapulted him to the status he has. reporters will continue to talk about the tax plans and the policies, but it would be impossible to ignore something as serious as the allegations by any media. >> let me switch to the other topics which is newt gingrich. he is predicting in an interview with the atlantic journal and constitution, it will boil down to himself and mitt romney. despite the fact that he is at the bottom of the polls and think it has been a week since he had a campaign event. newt gingrich believes he has a winning mojo there. >> anybody who is still in the race has to believe that. if you don't believe that, you dropout. >> yeah. >> i think that makes perfect sense. he has done okay in fund-raising at times and there is a case to be made that he could be an

alternatives if the others don't make it. he has to get in line behind herman cain and perry. others have good organizations and i think probably huntsman and bachman too could boil down to themselves and romney. that's what the next couple of months were for. >> absolutely. let me bring you in. newt gingrich said he is ready to eclipse herman cain. he is not on the suspect list and not the sherlock holmes trying to figure out who leaked the information. is it realistic to think there is an opening. could it pass perry? >> he can pass perry. i think he will get wind at his back for a short time because there continues to be a torch passing among the alternatives to mitt romney. i always said including to you, romney doesn't need to win it, he needs to survive it. so far he is. >> i want to play this new web

sane by comparison. will it fall or not fall or will they have no confidence or confidence vote. markets are manic and we should not read into it on a daily basis, but what's slowly happening and you see it with the g20 leaders. a recognition of a global economic system of 55 or $60 trillion let alone the european union and should not be imperilled by greece, a country 12 million people. >> it seems to be the case. >> it has been the case because there is huge fear and it's a fragile psychology and people are worried with the interconnectivity that what happens in one place happens in every place. just as if the state of alabama and if they had huge financial issues, they would find a way to contain that and deal with it without imperilling the system. a lot of this it political will.

. welcome back to "news nation." just a few hours ago, occupy protesters removed a blockade at the port of oakland, allowing it to open again. clean up is under way after the mostly peaceful protest turned nasty overnight. they arrested dozens who play issed graffiti and set fires. the massive groud o crowd of 7,000 people included union leaders is city workers. we have more from oakland. >> reporter: good afternoon. the day-long protest yesterday turned violent early this morning. police had to move into downtown oakland and fire tear gas because protesters were throwing molotov cocktails and concreed

chunks. they overtook about a dozen or so protesters and started burning trash cans. that spilled out to other violence according to witnesses. this is a local coffee shop and you can see the windows here have been blown out. this is indicative of several other businesses and there signs on the windows that say we are sorry, this does not represent us. they came here peacefully and some 7,000 were here in the city of oakland and one of the largest protests since the vietnam era. occupy oakland and you can see the tends have been set up for several weeks. they plan to go nowhere. oakland is still trying to recover after a somewhat violent and turmoiled night last night. they say they have restored order and there were several arrests made, but they believe the city will get back to normal operations later today. the clean up here in oakland

saying this would resonate? >> it was debra herself. i saw that she had been through horrible abuse and lived through hell in terms of being battered and being wronged by the justice system and being sent to prison for the rest of her life and yet she was an inspiring person leading the choir teaching inmates to read and write and getting college degrees herself. i thought okay, i'm hooked. i want to tell this woman's story. >> it is a journey. it starts in 1975 when she was only 15 and met oliver wilson. in 1976, a year later, he beat her after she refused to prostitute for him and it was in 1982 that she cooperated with two neighborhood gang members to kill wilson, a man who beat her from the age of 15 well into her adult years. she ended up being sentenced to 25 years. some would see that and say why

didn't she go to police or why kill him and maybe through those reasons could not find sympathy for her. >> the fact is she did go to police and she was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and the police kept him in jail overnight and released him. that only heightened the danger she was in. >> par focus on debra, but as we were talking during the commercial break, i covered a similar thing with women behind bars who turned on the people who have been beating them and fought back and the only way they felt was an option. she is not alone. her story is one they are sharing with countless others. >> if you visit a woman's prison and those who are there serving life, there is some variation of this story over and over. most of the women there fighting back to protect themselves or their children or both. from sexual abuse or death

crying. >> joining me now is criminal defense attorney john, thanks for your time. the district attorney brought up michael jackson's children early on. it was speculated whether the eldest child would testify regarding what happened. he did not, but we see the prosecution weaving the children into the closing arguments. what do you make of the strategy? >> it's good for them because it's a sympathy play. i don't think that's good evidence on the case at all. at the end of the day, what the children saw and how they saw it was not significant on the guilt or innocence of the doctor. what they sought to do of course is to say that michael jackson and conrad mur i sought to save himself when he knew michael jackson was in trouble and he could have acted more aggressively and that might be the colonel that will cause the

jury to be upset. if michael could have been save and the doctor chose to look out for himself, not the children. i don't think the children have anything to do with it. >> it's interesting, there were not a lot of bombshells looking out from both sides, but one of the cases that resonated with the audience and the people following this were audio tapes released of michael jackson. they were reported under the influence of propofol. let's play one of the clips they heard in court. [inaudible] >> we know that was michael jackson and you can barely recognize his voice. do you believe it was effective in the end? >> i don't know how effective that can be other than it shows

michael jackson was dependent upon this particular drug. and the doctor would have seen what a dependent person was and would not have allowed that to take place. that goes to character attack to show as a physician, he should have known better and once he saw that condition he would not have become an employee of michael jack and should have maintained this independence as a doctor. >> what do you feel it boils down to? the war of the experts? we know conrad murray's defense is michael jackson was a drug addict who ultimately took his own live with his alleged addictions here. what do you believe will linger most with the jurors? >> i think the evidence amongst the experts will have a cancelling out effect. the jurors will be concerned of what the doctor said he did. his own statements the be the basis on which to convict him or

not. whether he acted appropriately or tried to save himself. i think that is critical. he gives credit because of this issue around the character evidence. some may not think it's significant, but they have to deal with this caring, wonderful doctor and he was caught up with michael jackson's money and his own personal character as a physical and whether or not that will impact the jurors at all. they think he can be save and he didn't do it, he will be convicted. >> the jury could get the case by the end of the day. thank you. a texas judicial panel is investigating a disturbing video on the internet. it shows a texas judge beating his then teenage daughter. the judge handles child abuse cases in south texas. the judge's daughter posted video a few days ago although it was shot years ago. it has been viewed more than 1.5 million times on you tube.

@newsnation. >> topping the look at stories around the nation, a house panel approved the subpoenas. a panel said they are necessary because the white house denied or delayed requests for thens of documents related to solyndra. the california received a federal loan before filing for bankruptcy protection and laying off 1100 workers. the hacker group known as a none muss said a planned cyber attack is going forward as planned. the group was standing down on the plan fearing retribution by the drug cartel , but today the group released a video saying that they have until saturday to release an anonymous member allegedly kidnapped by the cartel . if they are not released, they will post the names and address of people associated with the cartel . a new poll out shows americans

are not confident that the so-called deficit europe committee will agree on a plan by the deadline of november 23rd. take a look at the numbers. 67% said they don't believe a deal will get done. 24% believe it will. there may be movement. 40 republicans are breaking ranks, joining 60 democrats and calling on the super committee to consider all options in trimming the $15 trillion national debt, including taxes. the capitol hill correspondent joins us. new comments from speaker boehner and nancy pelosi. >> the deadline is getting close and the polling information shows the dismal expectation that could motivate congress to work together. some say although there lots of reports of being deadlock and not being able to come to an agreement, there is work going on. today's speaker john boehner described this is such a big task, people need to recognize

they have been trying to resolve it, but it's a big deal and very difficult. >> this was easy. these issues would have been dealt with in the last couple of decades. if it were easy, the president and i probably could have come to an agreement earlier this year. if it were easy, senator reid and i probably could have agreed to this in july. this is hard. everybody knows it's hard. >> so where does that leave the committee? they continue to have conversations and there aren't any more public hearings on the schedule at the moment, bithey are working at it. if it were not to go forward or reach an agreement, are there other ways congress can deal with this as people talk about those plan b alternatives. when you mentioned the members of the house, 100 including 40 republican who is signed this letter, what some of them told us is in addition 100 members signing the letter, there were many more who supported the idea and weren't ready to go on the

record as republicans that they might support a change to the tax structure and the big deal. they are trying to suggest that there is momentum. we will have to see how it goes and members of the panel are telling us it's tough work and they are not giving up. >> nancy pelosi said she is optimistic as well. let's move on to the vote at 3:00 p.m. part of the president's jobs bill. this is a chunk of the president's bill that would deal with bridges and infrastructure and would be about 55 to $60 billion. part of the way they pay for that is to take a deliver of the million air's tax that would generate the revenue to fix the bridges and roads and things like that during popular projects. both sides say this is just not going to have enough votes to go forward because of the piece that includes the new tax. some are saying it's a political dance to show democrats are trying to fight for it and republicans are opposing it as is expected instead of trying to come up with something where

a new study for the american academy of pediatrics testing teenagers for hiv. the recommendation is to start testing at the age of 16. rainbow babies and children's hospital in cleveland. doctor, thank you for your time. >> thank you. >> what they are recommending in addition kid who is live in u.s. metropolitan areas who have a high rate of hiv and aids and teens tested for sexually transmitted diseases in the past believe they should receive an hiv test. what is your reaction? >> i agree. one of my dearest friends is in adult hiv work and she has a marker for hiv. it is real. 46% of high school students tell us that they are sexually

active. that can be anything from intercourse to oral sex. by the time they are 12th graders, 62% of sexually active. we also know from the survey that 20% of kids tell us that they either use drugs or alcohol before their most recent sexual activity. we need it get our heads out of the sand and stop pretending they are not sexually active and are not getting sick and do what we need to do. >> 'just focus on kids in the city? we know people have made that mistake thinking it's the city or minority kids, but we know in rural areas they were dealing with oxycontin and the ideal situation. if it's needed, why not for all 16-year-olds and why not just on urban areas? >> anybody can say they want to have the testing, but we know that the areas where the highest
