explosive child sex abuse scandal that's tarnished the legend of a football coach. >> it's been truly difficult to comprehend the terrible nature of the allegations that were revealed in the attorney general's presentment last week. my heart aches for the victims and their families and my mind searches for answers like millions of others across the nation. this is a tragedy for many lives and it will take all of us some time to come to grips with the full magnitude of all of the damage that's been done. >> we'll continue to listen to that for you. assistant coach michael mcqueary is mentioned from tomorrow's game after receiving multiple threats. the grand jury report says mcqueary caught an ex-coach raping a 10-year-old boy back in 2002 but never reported it to
10:01 am
police. the investigation into accused child predator jerry sandusky has expanded to san antonio, texas, where authorities there are looking to whether he victimized a boy on a team trip to the alamo bowl in 1989 and tonight there will be a candlelight vigil on the penn state campus for the alleged nine victims. >> we need to identify these victims of sexual abuse. we need to find them. we need to help them. they are our children. >> nbc's ron mott is live in state college, pennsylvania, watching that story for us. ron, any details on the nature of those threats we just mentioned against coach mcqueary? >> reporter: good morning. no. we didn't get more specific information regarding those threats from the university. the statement issued last night saying that coach mcqueary would not be here tomorrow was very flat. it didn't say much more than he had received threats and for the interest of everyone, they
10:02 am
decided to pull him away from the game tomorrow. now nebraska officials called penn state officials yesterday asking that they put more security forces on the ground here and penn state confirmed to nebraska officials they will do that. one thing i want to mentioning talking about interim president erickson, i want to add that they are going to look for answers and the community at large here in penn state and around the country will be looking for answers about the board itself. this current investigation kicked off back in '09 started when now governor tom corbit was the state attorney general. a lot of folks may want to know how much did board members know about the current investigation because there may be a perception that this board is sort of behind the eight ball and playing catchup with what has presumably been around in some circles on this campus going back into the late '90s.
10:03 am
a lot of questions yet to be answered on that front. regarding the coach, he will not be here tomorrow. a lot of people wondering about his employment status. interim head coach tom bradley was asked about that at a press conference yesterday. he said it would be a game time decision about whether he will be here. that was clarified last night. he will not be on campus because of the security threats. a lot of disclosures yet to come we're told. >> a lot going on in state college, pennsylvania. pennsylvania's governor is calling for an investigation into the charity that gave jerry sandusky access to the young boys. nbc news national investigative correspondent has been looking into this. if these allegations turn out to be true, sandusky created this charity called the second mile back in '77 to helped trouble
10:04 am
boys. ironic as well. >> reporter: exactly. one of the stunning disclosures in that grand jury report was that sandusky had met every one of his victims through this charity, the second mile. sandusky was the public face of this charity. he raised millions of dollars from local businessmen. he recruited high profile board membe members. he also participated in charity programs. he helped lead them. according to the grand jury report, that's how he met his victims and took them from the programs and then as the grand jury reports spelled out used that to sexually abuse these kids. >> reading through the indictment, it mentioned eight different victims. when you hear the details, you can't help but ask, this charity, second mile, did any of the members of that charity know about what was happening and what sandusky allegedly had
10:05 am
done? >> reporter: that is the question a lot of people are asking. that's the question that governor corbit addressed yesterday and said why there has to be an investigation. if you read the grand jury report closely, the charity's general counsel first got a report about that 1998 police investigation but the charity took no action. the investigation led to no charges. but then again in 2002 the charity's executive director is informed about the later allegation that took place in the locker room at penn state here and again the charity took no action. it was not until 2008 when sandusky himself informs charity officials that he's under police investigation that the charity cuts off sandusky from the children in its programs. >> paterno was made aware of these allegations by that current assistant coach, at that
10:06 am
time a graduate assistant. he's now secured a lawyer. do we know why? >> reporter: well, he's reached out and we're told there's been no retainer agreement signed yet but, look, coach paterno is not facing any criminal charges here. he's been described as a cooperating witness. this is still an ongoing investigation. there's going to at least be a trial of the three people who have been charged in this. and then more importantly than that, looking town the road, there are the prospect of huge civil lawsuits here. we've seen that in other cases of this kind like the boy scouts and catholic church and i think the expectation is that the victims and their families are going to be filing civil lawsuits and coach paterno could be right in the middle of that. >> thank you so much live with a report for us. as more alleged victims involved in the jerry sandusky scandal come forward to tell their stories, the court of public opinion is speaking out loudly

veterans and some of the stigma for those that come back from war and have had a difficult time to get employment and to transfer those skills from battlefield and military life into civilian life. this was overwhelming. the bill also did something else, a much more narrow thing having to do with tax wi withholding for small business. the house will look at the veterans piece of this but it is headed for the president's desk. both sides can claim a small victory. big for veterans on this veterans day but rare show of bipartisan support. if you think they can't ever do it, on this case they did. >> many are hoping for a victory with the supercommittee coming up with an agreement here with two weeks to go. any positive views that you are seeing? >> reporter: the happiness we just talked about fades when you get to the supercommittee. they have struggled. there are some smaller breakthroughs, republicans have said that they would put forward in this early negotiating phase

revenue meaning changes to the tax code and reducing deductions to bring in more revenue. democrats are not satisfied with that because it would include keeping bush era tax rates in place and democrats would like to see more. it is a federal holiday but some of those supercommittee members are working today trying to negotiate as you mentioned clock ticking 12 days to go. lots of predictions they won't be able to get it done but on a person to person level talking to members and staff they say they are working at it. it's a huge problem and there are enormous consequences if they fail. some sweeping automatic budget cuts wilewill take effect later on. >> a lot of work ahead of them. a couple of 2012 candidates still doing damage control. we have rick perry on "letterman" trying to make a joke out of his brain freeze at the debate. take a listen to this. >> you try concentrating with mitt romney smiling at you. that's one handsome dude. >> number two -- >> yeah. i wanted to help take the heat
