we begin this morning with a numbers game. another debate over the week. just as new polls numbers revealed what a difference a week can make in a ris that's still very much up for grabs. nbc's brian mooar has details. >> reporter: at this weekend's gop presidential debate on cbs, rick perry made light of his unforgettable memory lapse. >> if you eliminate the department of energy -- >> glad you remembered it. >> i've had some time to think about it, sir. >> me, too. >> so have voters. after a week of wild developments, nbc news resurveyed some participants in this latest poll and found perry is freefalling while newt gingrich is on the rise. herman cain's sexual allegations haven't heard but certainly have not helped. mitt romney has seen a

five-point bump, but not a breakout. >> what you're seeing pretty consistently is that romney is having a lot of trouble getting much beyond a quarter of the republican vote. you still feel there's an opening for another republican candidate. >> that looefts a ray of hope for michele bachmann who is polling at 4%. >> the voters have not made up their minds. this is wide open. >> reporter: which may be true, but isn't good news for any of the republican candidates. brian mooar, nbc news washington. elsewhere, a tumultuous weekend for occupy protesters across the country. in oregon more than 50 were arrested as police forced demonstrators out of two parks citing health and safety. in colorado four people were arrested as authorities took down an illegal encampment in downtown denver. eviction notices are piling up

for occupiers in oakland as authorities attempt to clear an encampment in front of city hall. elsewhere this weekend penn state university and the surrounding community are leaning on each other and their faith in the wake of a disturbinging child abuse scandal. there's a hearing this week for two former administrators accused of covering up the alleged abuse. nbc's jay gray has the details. >> reporter: late they are week former penn state vice president gary shumts and agent lek tick director tim curley will be in court. >> this is an ongoing investigation. >> reporter: and a continuing struggle. >> yeah. it's a little somber. >> reporter: there was an uneasy tension at beaver stadium saturday about what's happened and what may be next. >> the things that are normal

it's a warm wind. 63 in boston. temperatures well above average. that will come to an end z clouds roll in with the rain. there's a lot of clouds out there. in general there's this front that's hung up through the ohio valley. that's got just enough moisture. that's the focus of some rain. that will slide today into new england and all of this mess will slide down through the southeast. no snow, no ice. it's just plain old rain. it v it won't be severe many in producing tornadoes. the worst of it right now just along interstate 70, pretty good thunderstorms coming out of the springfield area approaching the state border of indiana and illinois. indianapolis, you've had wet weather, that's going to continue over into ohio. much of the state of central ohio will see on and off wet weather. so far as the forecast rainfall totals go, the highest totals will be later tonight. showers and storms just outside of the dallas-ft. worth area

into around little rock. the whole mess will slowly shift to the east coast as we go into tuesday. a look at your forecast for to day, wet weather in the deep south, eventually thunderstorms later today. we'll see all the rain heading into boston, hartford, even new york city later today has a chance of showers. philly and d.c., you're dry today. your wet weather will be after dark, still warm in florida by the way. temperatures in the low to mid 80s. here is your forecast for tomorrow. it shows it clearing out in the middle of the country and the wet weather heading to the east. i think the biggest weather headline out there is the fact it's warm. much of the country is enjoying november warmth. boeing scores a big one and why jay z is in the occupy doghouse. business headlines are straight ahead. coming up, a remarkable feat by tim tebow.

sign that perhaps with kate they're moving with the times. just to explain, what you saw kate wearing was to pay tribute to people who fought in wars. some of the money goes to the families of service families and to people injured in wars. so this was a fashion statement and it was very important kate wore it today. keir simmons, nbc news, london. now here is your first look at how wall street will kick off the day. the dow opens at 12,153 after losing 259 points on friday. the s&p climbed 24, the nasdaq jumped 53. taking a look at overseas trading, the nikkei gang 89 points, in hong kong the hang seng rose 371. italians danced in the weeks over prime minister silvio berlusconi leaving office.

italy is not out of the woods yet, respected economist mario monte will try to form a new government that can prevent financial ruin. he must demonstrate a parliamentary vote of confidence. more reasons for optimism, after big gains the s&p ended up almost 1% after tumbling almost 4% last wednesday. also friday data showed november's consumer confidence rose to a five-month high. this week analysts expect continued improvement in october's retail sales figures released tuesday. some big retailers are set to report this week, the last of earnings season, walmart, a key indicator of consumer spending reports as does youth retailer abercrombie and fitch. sunday dubai's emirates airline place add huge order for 50 boeing 777s for $18 billion, the biggest order ever.

welcome back to "first look" i'm veronica de la cruz. in sports the new york jets were flying high, the new england patriots were on a losing streak. they went out to prove that anything can and dowels happen. here is nbc's fred roggin. good morning. the patriots proved once again they own the joets. tom brady and company had a field day in new york. threw three touchdown passes, a pair to ran cow ski, new england up 13-9 at the half. picked mark sanchez twice, this one sealed it. the pats roll 37-16. who would have thought the 49ers

popping up in central pennsylvania. the white is the clouds. we may start off with a nice sunrise and a clear morning in many areas. but eventually the clouds will win out. the forecast today, many areas starting out dry. you should have the umbrella from philadelphia northwards. i think the new york city area in philadelphia, you'll have to wait later in the day for the rain to evolve. northern new england, central new england, you'll move in as we go throughout the morning hours. d.c. forecast, looks okay, chance of showers and maybe a thunderstorm tomorrow. then it looks like we'll clear it out, but much cooler as we go toward the end of the week. that's the general forecast for much of the east coast. next weekend looks clear as can be again. looks like wet weather in the middle of the week and we clear it out for another nice weekend. as far as today's forecast goes, we have rain out there in the ohio valley. the southeast is also looking pretty good. no problems on the west coast either. you think you can keep the weather in the 60s, bill, throughout winter for me? >> no. >> oh, well, worth trying.
