credit crunch the same way that we were. the fact that the fed is going to lend money at lower rates is great news. >> we have seen this before. we have seen ups and downs and ups and downs when ever the banks made a move like this. any indication that this might be lasting? >> the amount of money that we're talking about is a lot and it's great news. countries have huge amounts of debt. so those are the real problems that have got to get fixed now. >> help us understand the bigger picture. most people have money in the stock market, at least through their 401k. there has been a lot of uncertainty. we know how consumer confidence plays into the overall company. we saw a great black friday

significant upswing in the sale of existing homes. >> it's almost a schizophrenia in the market. given half a chance, stocks want to rise. there are emerging markets which is where a lot of americans get their money from and they are growing strongly. there is growth out there but markets still get worried when they see politicians not taking action around that. we have seen political gridlock and that's where you see the market moving up and down. >> when we look at this year. what will be the key indicators in the right direction?

marriages. second he is going to try to talk about newt as the flip-flopper and his record flip-flopping. mom, he's worse. and third, as liz suggested, they will play up the fact that he has a long washington insider record, that he has been in washington for years and years. romney is going to go at him agrandsonsively front on and from the sides. >> let me ask you because you have written this e-book called the right fights back and you do have interesting insights. >> there was a lot of consultants who worked for romney in '08 who are not working for him this time. that means a lot of consultants on the market, people who used to work for mitt romney. advisors to rick perry say they

>> the question is how to get there. there are two plans. first the democratic plan which is going to come up for a vote today or tomorrow would have a surtax on millionaires. that would be used to pay for that plan. that's not good enough for republicans because they say that is a tax on job creators. yesterday they introduced their own plan. look at what they had to do on that screen. a three year pay freeze, cutting the government work force by 10%. means testing for millionaires, no tax increases and voluntary contribution so that if you are a wealthy person and want to give to the treasury it would be easy to do that. >> both oit still remains

>> there has been a tremendous wind storm in central and southern california. the santa anas blowing to 80 and 100 miles an hour. 100 trees down in pasadena. emergency calls coming in about trees being down about 12 seconds over the last few hours. large tree down on sunset boulevard in los angeles. so tremendous wind event. and the winds will continue through much of today. it's still very gusty in the mountains in particular. same story to orange county. winds are 20 to 30 miles an hour. and that wind extends out into the sierra. part of i-15 actually closed.

prudent. to get the nomination you would need half of that plus one. the estimates resolve around 1143, but that could change. if a candidate thinks they can win all the delegates, again, this is mathematic, not pragmatic, the drop dead date to make that decision would be sometime in february. february 2, some might believe. so it's that late. another possibility? a write-in. final deadlines have passed in like new hampshire. they do allow write-in votes in new hampshire. winners have done it in the past for the gop. hoofr, eisenhower and nixon made it to the white house. democrats, too. then there is the brokered

convention. it has been more than half a century since that's happened. in 1948, to decide the nominee. sor skip the gop nomination process all together or lose it and come on back in the general election as a third party candidate. huntsman has not denied he is considering that. so though iowa and new hampshire are upon us, late plays do exist here. some could be waiting for the millions of dollars of matching funds. >> so can somebody, a wealthy somebody still get into the race as say through a new nominating process? a third party candidate? elliot akerman is coo of americans elect 2012 which is trying to create an alternative online nominating process.

good to see you. you are quick to say this is not about a third party candidacy, yet what is it? >> we're not offering up a third party. i think this country has got enough special interest and idea oblg but we are offering up this new way to select who the president is going to be. ballot access for a nominating convention. >> you have how many so far? >> we got our tenth yesterday. we gathered just over 2 million of the 2.9 million signatures that are needed. >> tell us how this would work. maybe this was a quote from somebody in your organization saying this is sort of like the "american idol" of politics which makes it sound goofy. >> that is not something our organization has said this is voting. wa we're doing is leveraging our newest technology to empower voters, allow more direct representation of democracy.
