neutron bomb against mitt romney. >> we're not going to beat barack obama with a guy with swiss bank accounts and is a stockholder is freddie mac and fanny mae. the message we should give mitt romney is we aren't that stupid and you aren't that cleaver. >> that's right go after mitt and his money. wait a second. which party is being accused of class warfare again. >> if you are for european socialism, you're with barack obama. >> right. so democrats are the ones using class warfare. maybe romney isn't as cleaver as newt, no one is, but he's not operating beneath a well of sleaze as these new romney campaign mailers allege.

>> zoo's? >> newt gingrich. the second point i'm making is that space exploration and just space in general is very important to florida. he's making a double play here trying to appeal to his own interests but appeal to a certain slice of the florida electorate. >> newt's already won a single primary but he's already talking about his two terms in office. >> on the newt gingrich scale, it's about a two in terms of delusions. you talk about meltdown. what you saw today is what we have been watching in washington for 30 years. this is not a meltdown. this is glacier creeping. his new slogan should be ginewt

gingrich, i didn't do it. he claims to be a historian when he wasn't. the best one was he claimed to produce witnesses that he didn't say he had an open marriage. no, we didn't do that either. listen, delusion, say whatever. this is just newt playing out what he's always been. the only big surprise is like newt could contain his newtness. we know it's beyond self-control. >> anna, remember that important line, it's not a lie if you believe it. >> it's true. i think that you're correct. i have thought for some time, the thing that the gop electorate wants this guy who will say anything, who will do anything, who is explicit.

he lost points after he was self-contained. i think it's unfortunate that his foil is mitt romney. he's probably the one gop candidate who could not turn on human. he can't flip that switch. there's someone -- it's stuck or something. it's unfortunate. even in his version of fired up, what did he say choice words. who talks like that? >> john, we talk about polls being within the margin of error, which is generally considered to be around 3%. listen to mitt romney's margin of error on his income at a univision forum in florida. >> how much money do you have? >> well, you tell me. it's between 150 and about 200 some odd million dollars. by the way, i didn't inherit that. >> john, he says his income is

somewhere between 150 and 200 million. >> yeah. it's like i might have 50 or two grand in my wallet. owe know how much money you have. i think he's trying to preserve some sort of weird zone of privacy that she shouldn't expect to have running for president of the united states. mitt romney and his discussions of his own wealth i find sort of oddly endearing because it comes from a time when talking publicly about your own wealth is akin to stripping. for him to say that i didn't inherit my money, i made it myself. dude, really. come on. come on. >> david, do you agree with that analysis? he has a real problem of switching that switch to humanity or normal human being?

he just can't do it. >> i think he should come out and say, how much money do i have, a gazillion dollars. let's move on. you have this race where you have an unfortunate choice of newt gingrich and someone who is almost human. we have seen mitt romney try to get that common touch. he can't do it when talking about himself or others. you can learn that behavior. he can get there, but it's taking him a long time and it's painful to watch. >> what do you think that is, ana? >> i know why it's painful to watch. you do sort of root for him like someone who recently escaped from cave. hasn't been in touch with humanity for a while. if he wasn't so rich, i could feel sorry for him. i don't know why it's hard for him. i think it's because he's never had to experience hardship of

any kind. he's never needed to find within himself something extra. >> we keep being told he didn't inherit anything. his father was ceo of american motors and former governor. >> it's like it's not my drug dealer calling. he's so quick to be specific with that it's a little suspicious. >> david, the president is taking his message on tour. he's in arizona yesterday. cameras camtured a stunning image of arizona governor jan brewer in a confrontation with the president. apparently, he told her he didn't like the description of him in her book. what did you make of that scene? >> i think it was great for selling books as msnbc just reported a few minutes ago. her rankings on amazon have gone from half a million to 56. r with just one finger.

rockets now. i'm joined by dr. neil tyson and the author of the upcoming book, "space chronicle," i have it in my hand. newt says by the time of his second presidency, because he's easily going to be re-elected, he'll have station on the moon by 2020. is that possible? >> he admitted that's an ambitious goal. the mnay sayers are not the engineers. they recognize that certain ambitions might not be possible. he's going to have to change the nation's understanding and valuation of what sit to embark on those adventures. >> given the fact that he wants to destroy government intervention, government bodies, government agencies, is the private sector going to fund a station on the moon?

>> there's an imbalance here. he recognized the value of entrepreneurship in the landmarks of the birth of aviation and money to stimulate people working out of their garage to advance what became a very important industry. he then went onto say that kennedy speech launched us to the moon. you can't trash government in one sense and praising them in the other without them mentioning it was government. it was a government project that got us to the moon. it's how well-designed is your government agency to accomplish the goal you set forth. >> we heard people like richard branson talking up shuttle trips. nothing's happened. >> the original title of the book was "failure to launch: the dreams and illusions".

they said that's too depressing. no they will not advance the space frontier because the frontier of space is expensive. it's dangerous. that's not right for a capital market to value. the history of human exploration is one where government takes the first step. they pay for the first patents. they draw the maps. government paid for columbus voyage and louis and clark. that's who figures out what's going on and then private enterprise comes. >> not according to newt gingrich. >> he got it wrong. private sector is a participant with nasa on that frontier. i think that can work. i don't have a problem with that. private sector is already a participant, but not at that

level. >> we know he was speaking in florida. do you think that may have colored somewhat the speech? >> a little bit. >> would it have the same impact in idaho? >> it's easy to give a speech on space in space coast florida bright there in brevard county. engineers scientists, moon launches right out of that county. that speech has to work in idaho. it's got to work in vermont where there aren't nasa centers. at the end of the day it's taxpayer money. you can't just go to the moon and mars because you feel like it because you have a couple of entrepreneurs. there's got to be a politician statement that can justify it. for me it can easily be justified if nasa itself is a force of nature on the heart and

minds of the nations. it sends everybody to want to become scientists. >> i get that. it's a powerful force in any community. that is a rocket. >> back when the country long ago went to the moon in this. >> a final question. i guess some of our viewers will be thinking i've got a property that's under water. i can't afford the mortgage, i've lost my job. why is this nman talking about building a space station? >> coming from another direction, if the nation dreams big and that percolates its way through society, the dreams are enabled by prowless in science. once everybody gets the feeling

he was in nevada. he was in arizona where a number of homeowners are under water but recovering trying to get out from under the debt of their mortgages which are much greater than value than the resell value of their home. the president, from a political perspective, no longer is his approval rating below his d disapproval rating. he's now above water. 48% approve. 46% disapprove. that's the highest since june. the right track, wrong track number, when americans asked if the country is on the right track, wrong track, this is a crucial indicator. only 30% say the country is on the right track. that's up 8%. the trend is the president's friend in that regard. >> thank you so much. >> reporter: thank you.

>> i make it was politically smart of jan brewer since she's thrown her lot in with the tea party to support the extreme immigration bill. her entire book seems to be based around giving it to the president. this is another instance of her trying to appear tough but it's a cynical, political and disrespect move. >> we need to remember that sarah palin wrote the forward to the book which is impressive. >> since the finger pointing image got out and was shared around the world. miss brewer's book sales have gone up 150,000 percent in less than 24 hours. >> i would love to know the brace to calculate. it's quite interesting. it's a time of political turmoil where people are curious about different positions and unfortunately, for that primary that's going on in florida, she's carrying that republican

flag that is now putting this cloud over the republicans as they are trying to win over a very important base, which includes a lot of latinos who care about the immigration issues. >> let me just underscore that. there's a lot of attention played to western swing states like arizona, nevada, colorado, new mexico. those are important but also places like virginia and north carolina and in florida. there's been a huge growth of population there. people like jeb bush says you have to tone it done because you're hurting our party not just for 2012 but lasting damage. for people like jan brewer, it was probably not the greatest moment for the president, sort of uncomfortable, not what you expect wen you get out the airplane. she is cemented that image that plays right into the democratic party strategy for this year and beyond. >> did you not think it was

disrespectful? is that how we're supposed to behave toward the president whether you like him or not? >> the power of social media and the quickness of the internet, it put a magnifying glass over anything. we don't know the context but the gesture, the hand leads you to wonder. we're talking about it and putting a dent into her, the party at a very important time that should matter. >> you don't really have to know what she said there because she said such ugly things and written such ugly things in the book. >> that's the case. just a final question to you krystal. what did you think of newt going into attack mode on mitt romney's wealth? i thought it was the democrat who is was guilty of class warfare.

north dakota. good afternoon. >> how are you? >> what do you remember of newt and reagan back in your house days? to hear newt tell it the cold war ended after reagan and newt discussed and mr. gingrich brought communism to the end in congress. >> he was a back bencher with a lot of grenades and throe as many as he could. i knew ronald reagan. i'm a democrat. i knew newt gingrich. there's very similarity that i can see if their style and approach. he was a back bencher. >> bob doyle has said this. he was a one-man band that rarely took advice high pressure he had a new idea every minute. newt would show up at my 96 campaign headquarters with an

empty bucket in his hand. that was a symbol of some sort for him. i never did know why he was doing and i'm not certain he knew either. was he carrying the bucket after he cleaned the bathrooms. what was going on here? >> i don't know. he did talk a mile a minute and have idea after idea. he was the person that began to poison the political waters. he said to republicans, if you're running for office as a republican, use these words. i've tested them. use these words to describe your opponent, sick, lie, pathetic, anti-flag, anti-children, traitor. that when he suggested our politics should be. fast forward to the time when he was speaker, i was around during the white house negotiations. i was one of the senate negotiators. i was around when newt gingrich was bragging about the fact he have going to close the

government down. he did, of course. that became a moment that i think he's probably always regretted and his colleagues that he served with in the house regretted it. not too long after that, they decided they didn't want him as speaker any longer. >> he's been touting a 1995 endorsement from president reagan's wife, nancy. i'd like to play two clips. first how newt tells it and what the former first lady said. >> in 1995, at the goldwater institute nancy said that ronald reagan's torch had been passed to me. >> harry goldwater handed the torch to ronny and ronnie turned it over to newt and the republican members of the congress to keep that dream alive. >> senator, she goes onto co compliment they and them.

apparently newt only heard i and me. >> yeah, that's not unusual. you hear a lot of this sort of thing from newt. he expands and exaggerates most things. this is almost low-grade entertainme entertainment. this is very serious. we're talking about someone to lead this country. you expect from that sort of a person, you expect good ideas. you expect leadership capability. you don't expect someone who has been fined $300,000 for ethical violations when leading the house of representatives. you don't expect someone with his record. i'm not being consulted by the republicans. they will make their own judgment by that. i'm surprised that newt, at this point, is where he is in this race. >> i think many republicans feel the same as yourself. thanks so much for joining us.

an aging population which retires tho this beautiful part of our country. >> jaime morgan chase and the most important banker in the world says the president and other politicians are giving the banks a bad rep. >> i have disagreed at the beginning of this blame of all banks or bad guys. i don't like that. it's a form of discrimination. it doesn't lead to productive conversation. not everyone is equally bad. so i think it denigrates america. >> this from a man whose bank received taxpayer money and $3 billion from the fed and all the while, he, himself, is taking home $23 million in compensation and he complains about discrimination. >> well, you left out the fact that jp morgan runs one of the
