11:03 am
that you would defend donald trump and say he is not keeping the birther conspiracy alive when he was on cnbc this morning keeping it alive. >> i said he is not known for that. if anything he is known for the economy and trying to make money in this country and supporting mitt romney because he knows romney can turn the economy around. i'm sure that the president doesn't agree with a lot of his donors on the fact that george bush was a co conspirator on 9/11 and silly stuff like that. we focus on issues that don't matter to draw headlines. we have to bring up crazy topics instead of focusing on the economy and what we are going to do. >> it is not the media bringing up the topic. it is donald trump. why are you blaming the media when it is donald trump who throws this crap out there? >> i am blaming the media for
11:04 am
covering what he says about the birther movement. that stuff is nonsense. let's focus oon the last four years and what to do moving forward. >> birther is turning the attention from the president's birth certificate to the college transcripts. here is what donald trump brought this up himself. take a listen. >> what does he say about place of birth. those transcripts have disappeared. nobody seems to be able to get them. >> do these kinds of conversations really galvanize democrats? does this silliness or nonsense as hogan likes to call it, does it help to galvanize the base? >> i think if you look at it from an african american standpoint it is gudisgusting.
11:05 am
i think african americans will be hurt. this could rally the african american. i think this is going to hurt them with upper middle class white women who see diversity in american as a strength who want their children to grow up in a multicultural society. i believe this could back fire on mitt romney if they don't nip this in the bud. >> with mitt romney appearing with donald trump, what are the benefits? what are the negatives and positives? what does he get out of this? potentially major cash out of vegas tonight? >> i think he perhaps could reach some of the fringe parts of the conservative movement who don't like mitt romney much. i think th negatives of this event are a lot higher. he is giving voice. while there are a lot of things we could be covering about donald trump he is more and more known for the birther views. mitt romney holding an event

11:07 am
the attacks on romney's jobs record. is the prospects on the stage with donald trump the image they want to cast to the country? >> first of all, newt gingrich also said in those interviews that he took the attack on bain capital and it didn't work. i'm not sure what the mitt romney campaign is looking to get out of this event except for fundraising dollars. he will need to have money in the bank in order to defeat barack obama. we know newt gingrich is friends in nevada. i expect they will try to raise money. that's what this is all about. that is why donald trump is there. he wants the economy turned around and thinks barack obama is the worst person to do it. >> as you bring up the vegas billionaire who helped fund newt
11:08 am
gingrich's campaign is now taking up with mitt romney. >> listen. when primaries are about the fringe left and right. when you get into the general election you want to run to the middle. when you look at those guys on the stage the people on the right love it but middle america cringes. this will hurt mitt romney when he says he is an outsider. newt gingrich is washington. he epitomizes washington. i think this hurts him as he tries to get the nomination. >> thanks to all three of you. i appreciate it. the united states has joined france, canada and australia in throwing syrian diplomats out of each nation today as global outrage reverb rates over the massacre over the weekend. at least 108 people confirmed dead. almost half of the deceased were children. u.n. observers say many of the

victims were executed at close range. today metwoman syrian president in hopes of reaching some tentative agreement to prevent further blood shed there. let's start with the details and what he was trying to accomplish on the heels of the massacre that we know happened there. what are we hearing fraul both sides? >> well, we understand from sources in syria that he delivered a very tough message to the syrian president calling on the syrian government to take very bold steps to ensure that this peace does succeed. the only game in town to try to end the violence. evidence shows it is not doing that well in terms of lowering the death toll. we understand the syrian president is saying that his gumtd was not responsible for
11:10 am
that killing that took place. they are blaming it on terrorists. so the blame game continues. the international community not buying the syrian government's explanation. they are putting the blame on the shoulders of president assad and his government. >> when you talk about the blame being pointed to assad what does that say about military action in the next week? >> it's extremely premature to see or interpret the events happening as a gate way to international military intervention. what we can see with the russian foreign minister distancing himself from the assad government is that perhaps there can be a consensus on tougher measures. there is no doubt about it that the opposition inside and outside syria want to see military intervention.
11:11 am
others include arming the intervention. so there is no doubt that the international community to some extent is considering this a turning point evident by russia distancing itself from the president of assad. >> thank you. appreciate it. back here in the the states the jury in the john edwards trial back deliberating after a three-day weekend and an unknown jury issue. plus the butler did it. why the popes butler was arrested and who else in the vatican might be next. car insur.
