the mayor did walk that back a bit saying romney clarified his comment, but he was not alone. the prime minister took a jab at romney, suggesting that the challenges posed are far more complicated than thes romney faced in salt lake city a decade ago. >> we are holding an olympic games in one of the busiest, most active bustling cities anywhere in the world. of course it's easy if you hold them in the middle of nowhere. >> the mayor of salt lake city was not happy about that, but he was asked about it early this morning and he was in full walk back mode. >> i am convinced that the people are ready for the games. in just a few moments all the things politicians say will get swept away because the athletes are taking the stage. the games are about the athletes. they have been highly successful. >> two things stand out.

>> it drew a lot of laughter in the room. one more note from the white house and what could be seen as an attempt to up stage the trip to jerusalem. the president signs military cooperation with israel. while that's going on. mitt romney is trying to get his trip back on track by making the rounds with other media. in addition getting response to the british tab lights, matt lauer pushed again on why he didn't plan ahead and get his taxes in order to release more of his returns publicly. >> why didn't you do that? >> we laid out exactly what is required by law, all of our financial statements and that in addition two years of tax reports like john mccain put out. >> you don't think you raised more questions than you answered? >> we laid out all that is required by law and then some, the same as john mccain. >> as we have seen in the past, when he wants to show his softer

virginia, ohio, florida, north carolina have multiple markets in the top ten. the roanoke market is at the top. it's a big change from last week's list. take a look between july 16th and 22nd. the colorado marks took all three. colorado springs had been one or two. since last friday's deadly shooting, both have pulled their advertising. that's why colorado is off the current list. for the record, just four markets have remained in the top ten over the last month. no surprise they are in two of the most heavily contested states. roanoke and richmond and tampa and orlando. u.s. economic growth slowed as expected in the second quarter. we have been waiting for the revised numbers at their slowest pace in a year. gross domestic product expanded at 1.5%. some pressure potentially on the

federal reserve to act. a few minutes away from the opening bell. let's get the market run down earlier than normal. becky quick, gdp and the numbers, we knew that they were going to be this mediocre to bad. was it built in? >> that keeps us right into the holding pattern at this point. that was right around what a lot of people had been expecting. at this point it didn't push the feds' action forward or backwards. next week is the big meeting and all the stories have been circulating have everybody wonder figure the fed will act. i don't know if 1.5% is weak enough. they said it's 1.3%, that might push the feds's hand. >> i have seen conflicting reports that some of this downturn has to do with inventory. that means that third quarter

might pop. do you buy this? >> not necessarily. we need to see more numbers. corporate profitability and that was down. that's concerning because it means that companies won't spend more. they will wait and see what happens. that means jobs will be a further wait and that's a huge issue. next week on friday, we get the jobs report. there many people who say the fed won't act red of that jobs report. at this point it's anybody's guess. the other thing is the market's reaction. the market's reaction to a really bad number could have been positive because they could have expected the fed would give more quantitative easing. this is a good holding pattern. they will open up by 45 point or so after a 200 plus point gain yesterday. they will end on a positive note, but the whole game starts all over again next week. the fed decision and the jobs

questions from the advisers within the campaign and he said i will go out and take questions from my people. that put romney on the defensive. as we answered the question about talking at the fund-raiser, check this out. the point of the campaign stopped here and israel and poll ant. it was supposed to be risk averse to listen and learn. even those they are getting an earful. this is the headline that reads mitt the twit. that's what he is hoping to wash away as he heads off with the festivities. even the other statements he has made, there were other gaffes referring to the opposition leader as mr. leader which is not the way he is supposed to be addressed. acknowledging that he 4 a meeting with the head of mi 6. the cia here in britain allowed to take place privately. that is not discussed publicly. with that, his comments to

because there is some 30th olympian that might be preechling my program for at least nine episodes, i will miss a few. i am not leaving the screen until we do senate race stuff. joe lieberman and john kyle are big name senators headed for retirement and the primary fights to decide whoa could replace them in the month of august. early voting under way in texas where that race was not supposed to be that close. lost by double-digits to the governor in the senate primary in may. they fell short of the 50% mark to avoid a run off. cruise has been cruising and held a slide lead, but it

doesn't stop there. texas will be followed by a primary in missouri. clair mcclassic ilnd hawaii picks a democrat to fill akak a's shoes. wisconsin's republicans and the race for them and august ends with the race to fill john kyl's seat. still unclear who the nominee will be in that state. we have the editor in chief and gentlemen, welcome to you both. busy august all because of the voting issue. everything got moved up. august is a bigger primary month. let's start with texas. the winner of this run off will be the next united states senator. that is say fact. i am surprised david is still in the race. it's a fighter's chance considering how it's a low turn out.

primary, always better to work. >> todd aiken and a congressman and sarah steelman and the businessman john brunner. it may not matter who is the nominee. democrats believe there is a weaker potential competitor for her. >> todd aiken is what they run against and most easily beat. the three negative advertisements and runny enough, the advertisement against aiken looks like a positive spot. they go on and on about the record of cutting government. that's a positive ad. >> people try it and it doesn't often work. >> the other party trying to influence the out come. if you do it and well enough, it's possible. in a three-way race, we are talking about the few voters.
