we begin this morning with high alert. the obama administration is prasing for another day of demonstrations in the muslim world after the weekly prayers. meanwhile, the development into the consulate killings in libya. tracie potts has the late e from washington. good morning. >> reporter: mara, good morning. there have been arrests in the killing. our consulate workers have been evacuated to tripoli. there, there are only emergency staff working as there are fears today across the pond and here about more violence in the region. more demonstrations overnight, more tear gas, more rocks thrown at police. so far, more than 200 have been injured in a protest. despite a call for calm by egypt's president, there's

concern of more violence. >> we are going to bring those who killed our fellow americans to justice. >> the fbi sending a team from new york to germany, four arrests in the death of four americans. they are looking for more. >> we have to protect our people. we have to protect the americans. >> reporter: secretary of state, hillary clinton, identified the two security guards who were killed. >> they were good and great men. they were committed to the cause of building a brighter future for the people of libya. >> reporter: in washington and on the campaign trail, republicans are pushing the obama administration. >> the world needs american leadership. >> no signals. >> reporter: they blame protest on the arab spring gone bad. >> this is about american weakness and the president's inability to lead.

>> reporter: the fbi will be looking into the man who created the film. they make it clear they are looking into him. apparently, he was on probation and not supposed to be using the internet. their investigation is not centered around the content of the film. as they put it, making a bad movie is not a crime. >> thank you. help is on the way for the u.s. economy. the federal reserve plans to spend $40 billion a month to buy mortgage bonds to encourage consumer spending, more investment and create more jobs. daniel lee reports from washington. >> reporter: u.s. stocks went up in minutes over stimulating a slow economy by making it cheaper for businesses to borrow and spend. ben bernanke hopes it will trickle down to the unemployed. >> the economy appears to be on

a path of recovery, it's not moving fast enough. >> reporter: job seekers were hit by disappointing job numbers in august. fewer than july and well under the 200,000 jobs needed a month to lower unemployment. >> what we are about is trying to get jobs going. >> reporter: the feds will buy $40 billion a month undefinitely, keeping interest rates low. >> we're going to have to see if it works. >> reporter: financial experts are leery wondering of unintended consequences. >> it is, once again, underscoring the bad economic policies we have been seeing. >> reporter: bernanke disagrees. he thinks it will reduce unemployment within three years. i'm daniele, nbc news. >> we'll have more on the reaction coming up in business.

here is a look at some of the other news in america. in ohio, frightening video shows a woman driving up on a sidewalk to get around a bus with their red lights flashing. that bus was picking up a child who uses a wheelchair. she made it a daily habit. police rr ready, pulling over the driver. in pennsylvania, police were ready with guns drawn when a burglar broke into the woman's apartment. the man did maintenance. in connecticut, a homeowner is hoping to avoid disaster with art. she brought in a wood carver to turn older trees into sculptures. she did it after seeing trees on homes. finally, the pittsburgh zoo

is home to a bouncing baby black rhino weighing in at 70 pounds. it's the first rhino born at the zoo in half a century. now for a look at the national weather, we turn to todd santos with the forecast. that's a big baby, 70 pounds. >> it is. it's about the size of my full grown dog. >> so you have a baby rhino in your house. >> exactly. many of us, as you head outside to take your rhino or dog for a walk, it looks beautiful across the edge of the country. the stripe of the rainshowers in the central u.s., the great lakes getting in on the showers. grand rapids up toward muskegon, a few areas in indiana dealing with the showers. we have seen a few lightning strikes near san antonio. much of the west coast and west of the rocky, we are talking

quiet conditions. breezy in the southern edge of the four corners. the front itself is the one we have been tracking east. we'll get into central new york and central p.a. new york city, up toward or down toward philly may see a chance for showers later tonight at 1:00 or 2:00. detroit you are getting showers for your morning commute. not big time heavy rain, but enough to get the windshield wipers on. there are breaks in the showers as you channel back toward the west. we'll likely see it fill in across the state of ohio. daytime heating will help get the showers going. the on shore flow on the east coast. we'll talk about a few other showers and the temperatures you can expect when you step out the door. >> thank you. stimulus and wall street.

since 2007. stocks spikes across the economic spectrum. that was in response to the federal reserve led by ben bernanke initiating the third stimulus program to boost the economy, qe3. the fed will buy $40 billion of mortgage backed debt until the outlook of jobs improves. they also said they were unlikely to raise interest rates from current lows until mid-2013. the effects were immediate and dramatic encouraging riskier investment. the greenback is a seven month low against the yen and four month low against the euro. gold climbed to six month highs. the fed overshadows data. the number of people seeking unemployment jumped to the
