the flames are threatening at least three communities, forcing thousands to flee. jay gray reports from near the fire line in haley, idaho. >> reporter: the fight against the beaver creek wildfire continues for a 13th day this morning in the idaho mountains. the massive blaze fanning out in several directions right now, pushed by strong winds and with no shortage of dried out brush for fuel. it's just an extended drought. it's been hot, it's been dry. the vegetation here is extremely dry. it's a perfect firestorm. >> reporter: 2,300 families have been evacuated and more than 7,000 now told to pack and be ready to leave in a moment's notice. >> it's a little unnerving, a little unsettling. >> reporter: an uneasy feeling thousands are dealing with across the west. more than 40 wildfires are burning out of control, more than 30 of those sparked by lightning in a region where they've seen at least 600 strikes in the last 24 hours.

>> there is no more important regulatory reform we can do than to reveal every single word of obamacare. >> senator cruz and the heritage foundation hoping to whip up enough support to gut president obama's affordable care act. >> the one unifying principal in the republican party is making sure that 30 million people don't have health care. >> this as a potential government shutdown looms, whether government funding and health care funding should be linked. will these town halls help republicans gain momentum? >> we're here, we're loud, we're proud and we're going to fight tooth and nail to make sure congress stops this. >> two groups are spreading the word in town halls and others are spreading the word in tv ads like this one. fears among some republicans that this could backfire, losing support for a republican party trying to rebuild itself.

>> shutdowns are not good a move at all. i think most americans are center right like we are and want limited government. >> now, after dallas, the tour mostly hits the eastern part of the country. it wraps up next week, next thursday in wilmington, delaware. now we turn to egypt where jailed ex-president hosni mubarak could be freed. prosecutors ordered his release. it's unclear when or if he would be set free after two years in detention. mubarak was ousted from power in the february 2011 revolution. he was found guilty last year of failing to stop the killing of some 900 protesters in the 18-day uprising. but he has secured a retrial for that conviction. this news comes on the heels of persistent and deadly clashes and word that the leader of the muslim brotherhood was arrested. defense secretary chuck hagel says the u.s. is reviewing every aspect of our relationship with

egypt. >> our ability to influence the outcome in egypt is limited. it's up to the egyptian people. and they are a large, great sovereign nation. an unprecedented move in pakistan. the former military dictator is facing murder charges stemming from a 2007 assassination of prime minister bhutto. prosecutors say musharraf committed terrorism by aiding in the killing. he's plead not guilty. bhutto was killed during a gun and bomb attack during a 2007 rally. prosecutes say musharraf failed to prevent her assassination. dick vandyke survived a close call monday. the 87-year-old actor was reportedly slumped over the

steering wheel when a passerby pulled him from a burning car. the california highway patrol determined he sustained no injuries. it's possible that a flat tire may have ignited and caused that huge blaze. showing his trademark sense of humor about the whole situation, vandyke tweeted this photo with the caption, used jag for sale, real cheap. new reaction to last night's new york city appealing of the ruling to ban stop and frisk policy. ben jealous said this is a national issue. >> this is the biggest racial profiling program in the country, biggest local profiling program in the country, maybe in the world. mayor bloomberg has become its biggest evangelist, he tried to get the mayor of san francisco to replicate his program. now he's trying to switch pr tactics. and the mayor said thank you, you but no. because it is just a phenomenal

so ted cruz has announced that he'll renounce his canadian citizenship shortly after learning that he even had it because he released his birth certificate presumably to stoke the controversy. did it backfire on him? >> absolutely. it has an amateurism smell about it. the bigger problem is that he may have a legal challenge to his ability to be challenge. but he doesn't really have sxers. he's a freshman senator. she concentrate on his time in the senate, try to work up a record. and then run for president. rather than be using his first couple years to run for president. we already saw how badly that turned out when a young senator won in 2008. >> badly for your side. >> from high pmy perspective. >> chris christie is expected to win re-election. last time around, the gop had a little bit of trouble getting the conservatives behind mitt romney. are they facing the same kind of battle with christie?

>> first of all, mitt romney did win the prime aertsz and taries. christie is a stronger candidate. he has the charisma that romney was never able to muster. and second of all, as a governor of new jersey, chris christie has shown the ability to be a true conservative, true republican by also working with people across the aisle with democrats and he'll be able to attract a lot of democrats. chris christie is a serious contender for 2016. in my mind he's the leader right now of the pack. >> thanks so much for your perspective. well, coming up, bill karins and richard lui will be here for first buzz. we'll tell you about the stories that caught our eyes this morning. my mother made the best toffee in the world.

time for first buzz, all the stories we're talking about this morning. as we mentioned, the white house has a new pup and you have a little bit of history on presidential pets? >> a little bit. do you know that of the last 15 presidents, every single one has had a dog. and of course this is the video here of sunny, the new one in the white house. these door rooz vel theodore roosevelt had five living at the white house and a pony. of course that was like 100 rears ago. calvin coolidge was the last one not to have a dog. he had a cat. and i don't know if they thought about the name well enough. sunny and bo. if they get in trouble, you'd be like sunny and bo no.
