they have another vacation scheduled later this month, and they have only voted 41 times so far to repeal obama care. so really, there is no time to get to other stuff like this. we will see how long that stance is sustainable. . good friday morning. right now on "first look" -- incredible pictures from the jersey shore boardwalk still recovering from hurricane sandy. now a massive fire has ravaged the area. in colorado three people are dead as torrential rain is causing powerful flash flooding. talks continue between the u.s. and russia about what to do over syria's chemical and biological weapons. good morning. we begin with another blow to the iconic new jersey shore. the community there is still recovering from hurricane sandy and now another setback. thursday a monster fire engulfed and destroyed some 50 businesses along the boardwalk.

smoke and flames could be seen for miles and wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour kept the fire going into the night. 400 firefighters were called in to battle the blaze that included many explosions likely from fuel supplies. this is the same area devastated less than a year ago by hurricane sandy. just this summer work crews completed repairs. governor chris christie was blunt when describing his thoughts. >> when i got my first full briefing i said to my staff i want to throw up. i can only imagine how business owners are feeling. i want to make sure every resource is brought to bear to contain the problem. >> authorities say the fire may have started in a popular custard shop and spread.

now to the state of emergency out west. more than 2.5 million people caught right in the middle of raging flood waters. entire towns in central colorado have been cut off and right now officials are telling residents to get out. jay gray joins us with the latest from boulder, colorado. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. yeah, it's been a real rough go here as the rain tcontinues to fall. water swallowing not or streets, but entire neighborhoods and show ing no signs of slowing down. driving rain continued to feed raging flood waters overnight in boulder, part of a system that for more than 24 hours now has battered the region. sirens wailed and warnings sounded thursday as the water continued to rise. >> we have lost roads. we have lost bridges. we have lost homes, cars.

and we are just now beginning to try to assess the scope of the damage. >> reporter: emergency crews rushed into areas cut off by the water and floating debris. dive teams rescued drivers after this bridge was swallowed by flood waters. neighbors turned to each other for help getting to higher ground. >> the water was raging like the colorado river through our house. >> reporter: in some areas the waters led to massive rock slides blocking rescue teams from stranded cars and communities. at least three people are dead. officials worry like the water that number could grow. >> we know that we have lost lives. we anticipate that has the day goes on that we may find that we have lost others. >> reporter: the deadly storms have already dumped more than seven inches of rain. >> this is insane. >> reporter: and unfortunately, still not over.

minister sergey lavrov were center stage. but putin stole the show with his attack on president obama's syria speech on of all places the op-ed page of the "new york times" taunting the president for saying america was exceptional. putin wrote it is dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional. he said obama's proposed air strikes will result in more innocent victims and escalation. it is alarming it has become common place for the united states. putin wrote that while no one doubts that poison gas was used in syria, he claims it was not used by the syrian army but by opposition forces. kerry brought a big team of arms control experts prepared to test the russian's seriousness. >> this is not a game. i said that to my friend when we talked about it initially. it has to be real.

waternado? >> twins. we'll make something up. all eyes are still on colorado where this time yesterday, we were dealing with historic boulder floods. it's still pouring in many areas of colorado. doesn't look like it will end anytime soon. flash flood warnings around boulder. a lot of the canyons, dams, dams made of earthen rock, not concrete dams, but a lot of those are not holding up because they were getting flash flooding. as far as the east coast, big storms and heavy rains moved through the northeast. there are still showers out there, but the cold front will push through and the humid air is being pushed out during the day today. so it will take a little while to clear out, but there are showers in new england. overall we won't see the airport problems like yesterday. it will clear out from the great lakes, ohio valley, east coast. it will be a fantastic beautiful weekend. >> thanks so much, bill. we all have worries, of course, but what worries your

administration just got lucky off of secretary of state john kerry's gaffe. >> turning now to domestic politics, congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle are saying there is no clear path to avoiding a government shutdown. so what do you think needs to happen to make sure the government does in fact stay funded past september 30th? >> here we go again. i think that really what will happen is that everyone will have to come to the table, but the obama administration just yesterday saying they are not going to let obama care get wrapped up in this thing and they are willing to have a government shutdown. but it could be a game of prink man sh bre brinkmanship. >> why do you think the public is moving away from this? >> i don't think the american people understand why the government can spend money that it doesn't have. and i think that it just comes
