words. >> if republicans and speaker boehners are saying there's not enough votes they should prove it. let the bill go to the floor and see what happens. just vote. let every member of congress vote and they can determine whether or not they want to shut the government down. >> speaker boehner responded. >> the american people expect that leaders will sit down and at least have a conversation. really, mr. president, it's time to have that conversation before our economy is put further at risk. >> on sunday the speaker said there were not enough votes in the house to pass a clean continuing resolution to fund the government but right now as mazz 21 republicans have said they could join all the democrats to pass a simple extension. that extension would resurrect programs the shutdown has left paralyzed. >> it's going to hurt working

is nothing compared to what could be ahead. that's if political leaders don't agree to raise the debt ceiling by october 17th. so here's how it could hurt you at home shopping for a car. the 0% or low interest car loans, gone. thinking about refinancing your house to lower your mortgage payment forget about it. they could skyrocket and your own debt load could increase. the crisis even concerning china now. they want the u.s. to avoid hitting the debt ceiling and ensure china's investments. all right. overseas now, u.s. marines are on high alert after that weekend terror raid in libya. it's all in response to the capture of the terror suspect al libi. some are responding to u.s. interests there and join 100 already on the ground as part of an on going task force. that group was set up after the

deadly attack in benghazi. he was wanted in connection to the 1998 bombings of the u.s. embassies in kenya and tanzania. he's the 10th suspect in custody for that attack. and we know more about what's happening to him. the 49-year-old is being held on this naval carrier, the uss san antonio. he'll be questioned at sea for days or weeks. the cia, fbi and u.s. military will all be part of the interrogations. he will then stand trial in the u.s. for the bombings. of the ten people indicted, three remain at large. a store clerk brought a very large knife to a gun battle. you have to check this out. security camera footage shows a deli worker keeping his cool as

joining me is the washington bureau chief for the chicago sun times. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> do you expect the government shutdown to really run right up to the debt ceiling deadline on october 17th or will there be a solution before then? >> no, i think we're going to work right up to the deadline. i think that congress is going to maybe try to work on both at the same time. it's not clear yet, though, if that's how it is going to unfold. >> how does this political game of chicken help anybody? people are frustrated by this. >> i think anyone just watching this unfold has to think that this is no way to govern and that people are -- lawmakers are trying to make a stand more than they're trying to get something done. but no matter what the perception is of people out there, the debt ceiling limit, i think, is much more -- is putting more pressure on lawmakers to try to negotiate something than the shutdown. >> indeed, according to cnbc the
