the virginia candidate terry mcauliffe. >> look at america today. we have to implemented the health care law. the computer deal will get fixed up. everybody has forgotten that when president george w. bush a republican put that medicare part d drug program in it was more unpopular than the health care law and they had terrible problems with the computers. but our side, we not so ideological so instead of screaming about how incompetent they were most of our people tried to help them understand the law and make it work and then wait for it to get fixed. big difference in it. putting people first as opposed to some philosophy first. >> according to the los angeles times, thousands of individuals in california are unhappy with the president's health care law because of increases to their health insurance bills.

it has to do with the large amount of previously uninsured people entering the health care system. now president obama will discuss the roll out of obama care and the changes. they're saying the administration always expected enrollment to be law at first but to pick up in early 2014. they cite the 2007 massachusetts law as a perfect example. only 123 people signed up in the first month of that program. new reporting today confirms what edward snowden leaked last week, that the scope of the nsa's intelligence gathering extends to america's closest ally as broad. the wall street journal reports the national security agency ended a program that spied on as many as 35 world leaders after the white house ordered an internal review over the summer. senior officials say several programs have already been shutdown and others are expected to be closed at a later date. the report also states president

obama spent nearly five years in office in the dark, unaware of the nsa's practices overseas. officials say the targets of these programs are not typically decided by the president but by the agency. yesterday congressman peter king defended the nsa's programs saying they should be viewed as a positive thing for everyone involved. >> the president should stop apologizing and stop being defensive. the reality is the nsa saved thousands of lives. not just the united states but also in france and germany and throughout europe. we're not doing it for the fun of it. this is to gather valuable intelligence which helps not just us but the europeans. >> with the government shutdown behind us and the fight of obama care still going the republican party beginning it's search for a new identity. yesterday dick chaney weighed in on the state of the gop. >> we have a long way to go to rebuild the party. it's important that we bring in

their right so that you can capture every marginal voter right up to where they are. the problem is if you do that, you destroy every single reason anyone has to show up and vote. >> not everyone is convinced senator cruz is the future of the gop, however. rick santorum was on meet the press where he questioned cruz's leadership and the success of his strategy to defund obama care. >> unlike the democratic party which has a leader, there isn't a leader in the republican party right now. that's part of the problem. that's part of the mess and confusion but that's always the way it is with a party out of power. you have different faces. in the end he did more harm. i think it was not his objective. i think his objective was an honorable one. there's one thing to have a goal and another thing to have a plan to get you there. four inmates from an

oklahoma jail are free after escaping from a trapped door above a shower. at some point the four men climbed through an opening above one of the shower heads and crawled about 30 feet through an area that housed the plumbing pipes and escaped through a door. the county sheriff first realized something was wrong when the department got word of men running through the streets in orange prison uniforms. three guards were monitoring them when it happened. they were on charges for burglary, drug, escaping from a law enforcement officer. wall street looking to extend it's winning streak after ending the week in positive territory. let's go out to london. jeff, good morning. >> reporter: hey, good morning, brian. big focus on apple. it will report after the bell here. we're looking at revenues and profits for this quarter for guidance. the iphone, particularly

interesting here, have people been snapping up the 5 c? question marks about this lower cost plastic back version. these numbers will give us a sense of how it's doing or is it just the 5 s walking off the shelves? another great story for you, this one about mcdonald's. studied 4,000 restaurants around the world and they're squeezing heinz out of their source supplying business. effectively here, mcdonald's unhappy about changes at heinz. they have taken in burger king's former boss. mcdonald's making a point in saying even after this 40 year relationship appeared to be going from strength to strength, we ultimately no longer want to keep you as source supplier because you have taken in this new man to run your business. a little storm brewing in mcdonald's at the moment. >> and i'm sure that's a huge contract with the amount of burgers on a daily basis.

we're looking into ways to fund our major roads and looking at how many miles people drive each year which would put me at 65 miles a way each day. the gas prices are too high. that's how they generate additional revenue to repair roads but they think it's difficult to push taxes up on the gas price so they're looking at other ways. it's a user pays approach. if they study how many miles you cover by putting a little electronic box in your car maybe they can charge you appropriately for the amount you use the highway. there are privacy groups that say putting this device into cars means someone will be able to spy on you. guys, the nsa is doing it already. don't worry about the black box. >> and of course there was a day when just your taxes would pay for the roads. that's an interesting thought. we'll see you tomorrow. this was a man that once said i have a ba in dope and a ph.d. in
