yesterday because of the issues surrounding the website the obama administration officially granted a six week extension for shoppers to sign up for coverage next year. you now have until march 31st to do so. course correction of the roll out of obama care may be the least of the white house's problems. for years president obama denied that the affordable care act would change health care coverage for millions of americans. in fact it was a key component of the president's sales pitch to the public. >> if you like your health care plan you keep your health care plan. these folks need to stop scaring everybody. nobody will force you to leave your health care plan. i don't want government bureaucrats meddling in your health care. your employer provides you health insurance on the job, nobody is talking about messing with that. if you're one of the more than 250 million americans who already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance. >> but now an nbc news report finds the opposite happens to be

true. buried in a document from 2010 of obama care regulations, lisa myers discovered the white house officials were aware between 40 and 67% of individuals would not be able to keep their policies. yesterday white house press secretary jay carney tried to clarify the law and those past remarks from the president. >> what everybody said all along there will be changes brought about by the affordable care act to provide minimum standard of coverage. so it's true that there are existing health care plans on the individual market that don't meet those minimum standards and, therefore, do not qualify for the are affordable care act. >> lisa myers will be on "morning joe" at the top of the hour at 6:00 a.m. some news outside of d.c. to talk about. a federal judge blocked a key part of a texas law toughening access to abortions one day before the law was set to take effect. the judge threw out the portion that required doctors who perform the procedures to have

admitting privileges at nearby hospitals 30 miles or less away. critics say it would have forced 1/3 of the state's clinics to shut down. wendy davis filibustered the legislation over the sum per the bill ultimately passed and davis is now running for governor against attorney general greg abbott who has already promised to appeal the judge's ruling. the virginia governor's race increasingly appears to be in the hands of a democratic candidate terry mcauliffe who has opened up a double digit lead in the latest polling. "the washington post" poll shows him leading ken cuccinelli 51-39 with libertarian candidate behind. president obama will help mcauliffe campaign this weekend as the race heads into the final

stretch. penn state will be paying millions of dollars in a settlement with more than two dozen sex abuse victims of jerry sandusky. the university will may $60 million to 26 of sandusky's victims. the settlements will not be funded student tuition, taxpayer funds or donations. sandusky is currently serving between 30 and 60 years behind bars after being convicted last year on 45 different counts of sex abuse. he's appealing the verdict. penn state president said quote, we hope this is another step forward in the healing process for those hurt by mr. sandusky and another step forward for penn state. we cannot undo what has been done but we can and must do everything possible to learn from this and ensure it never happens again at penn state. two oklahoma inmates are back in jail after a pretty unlikely escape over the weekend. yesterday we told you about four inmates snuck out of a county

detention center by escaping over a duct over a shower room. they crawled along the stretch of pipes and broke through a cement wall before making to it freedom. only temporarily for two of them. two convicts captured on monday afternoon about 40 miles down the road. the other two remain at large this morning. less than a week after five people were hurt on a ride at the north carolina state fair another accident involving the same type of ride at the same fair. a state fair worker is in critical condition this morning after the festival's second vortex ride fell on him. the man became trapped yesterday morning when the seating section collapsed as he was dismantling it. three of the five people hurt in the first vortex accident last week remain in the hospital. one of the victims is just 14 years old. a judge refused to reduce the $225,000 bail for the operator of that ride, timothy tutterrow

he has been charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon. let's go to detroit and the bankruptcy trial. the stipulate's historic trial is now in the hands of a judge deciding the merits of that chapter 9 filing yesterday. michigan governor testified saying the decision to file for bankruptcy was a tremendously difficult decision to make, but the right one under the circumstances. he was subpoenaed by union leaders who are attempting to block the filing because of its impact on pennsylvania benefits. pretty mixed day on the markets. s&p up a little bit. dow and nasdaq in negative territory yesterday. for more headlines from the business world, we go cnbc. >> reporter: hello, brian shactman. i want to take you through one of the top headlines here that wall street will be joining. the justice department to block the proposed merger of american

"consumer reports" pulled its recommendation on three of the top automakers vehicles including the camry sedan. last year the institution for safety involved a new test. it gave the camry a poor rating but plans to retest the vehicle in december. >> thank you. one year since superstorm sandy wreaked havoc across the east coast. a lot of families still struggling to pick up the pieces. thousands of people are displaced, staying in hotels, staying with friends or families. many haven't fwun to repair their battered homes. there's a new problem mounting for the community. many may have no choice but to leave for good because of skyrocketing insurance rates. some homeowners say flood insurance rates could go up by as much as 500% to nearly $10,000 a year because avenue federal law passed after sandy. sandy victims are questioning the pace of aid. in august the government just announced $5 billion of the $60 billion aid damage has been spent. another $5 billion began to filter out yesterday. that's 50 out left hanging in the balance. superstorm sandy claimed 182
