sox fan. good morning, every. brian shactman here. it's halloween, but nobody cares about that in boston. we're here at historic fenway park as the red sox are now champs for the third time in the last ten years. this team truly went through a total transformation. if you remember 2011, epic collapse. last year, they were the laughing stock of sports. lost more than 90 games. i like the song, too. i just want to pause a bit. they grew some beards and put it all- ♪ touching me, touching you sorry. i'm a little giddy. so last night it all culminated as they celebrated the clinches win at home for the first time in 95 years. only the second team to win a

title after finishing in last place the previous season. security was very tight. and there is another layer to this story. and it actually affects all of americans. this win comes 198 days after two bombs at the boston marathon killed three and injured more than 200 other people. the boston strong mantra became the rallying cry for the city. embraced by the entire country. and the baseball team that is the boston red sox took that moniker as an honor. >> this is the [ bleep ] city. nobody going to deck at a time us. stay strong. thank you. >> i was there that day. and it took everyone aback, but certainly struck a chord in everyone. when david ortiz said that on opening day, it changed everything. and he hit an unheard of .688 in the world series. in fact st. louis took the bat out of his hands last night walking him four times. but the red sox other bats woke

institutions. italian magazine reporting the agency spied on cardinals at the v the vatican during the conclave. surveillance allegedly included phone calls to and from the guest house where pope francis still stays today. the nsa also facing accusations of secretly tapping in to google and yahoo! data centers across the world. tactics would sweep up the information of millions of american users, google and yahoo! both say they had no knowledge the nsa accessed their data centers. let's go to business news right now. the federal reserve staying the course on its signs the u.s. economy is slowing down a bit. the fed announced yesterday it's pressing ahead with its stimulus campaign. includes low interest rates. i guess my micro phone went out. central bank says it will

continue helping the economy because of weak signs in the housing and labor markets. on the positive side, u.s. deficit for the 2013 budget year, how about this, falling to $680 billion, that is a five year low. breaking news overnight in sear gentleman. an if i recall with the chemical weapons -- has met the deadline to destroy -- for tomorrow. and this comes as health officials racing this morning to stop a polio outbreak inflicting yet more damage amid the country's civil war. world health organization is confirming ten cases all in children under the age of four. there are 20 additional suspected cases. the outbreak is in two villages close to the border with iraq. hospitals there are in ruins as you might imagine and without power or proper medicine. another likely factor in the outbreaks is the lack of sanitation. health officials say about half

not just the city. and obviously again part of the reason that it is in the bloodstream here is because of all of the years of loss. from 1918 until 2004, they were without a world title. came close several times. >> and i was just going to say, because for me, they broke the streak that was historic. because of what happened in 2011 and what happened last year, they felt like underdogs again. people can like them again. >> that's the resellienilience . this is a very likeable team. likeable ball players. listen, they went there last to first to the world's championship, but also went from being one of the most loathed sports teams in all of professional sports, not just
