this is for palestine ramala, this is for the child that is searching. why do you think little boys are throwing stones at tanks and we'll never really know how many people are dead, they drop bombs on innocent girls while they sleep in the bed, israel is a terror state, the terrorists that terrorize, i'll testify my television televise, i'm telling. how many more resolutions have to be violated, how many more children have to be annihilated, this is not a war, it is systematic genocide, but whatever they try, palestine will never die, hello, i'm chris williamson and this is palestine declassified where we investigate the israeli regime's global war against solidarity. with the

illegally occupied people of palestine. in the past eight years alone, the united nations general assembly has approved 140 resolutions criticizing the zionist entity, and the world's last apartide regime was centured once again at the general assembly last month. latifa abu chakra has this report about the proceedings in new york and the unexpected twist in the tale that saw israel's ambassador to the united nations getting more than he bargain for. the 78th session of the united nations general assembly opened on tuesday the 5th of september 2023. the issue of palestine featured in the opening events, perhaps more than usual. however, the only leader apart from the palestinian president mahmoud abbas to explicitly raise the question of palestine was sayid ibrahim raisi, the president of the islamic republic of iran. in his speech, he discussed the occupation by the zionist entity. has the time not come, he said. said
2:04 am
to bring an end to seven and a half decades of the occupation of palestinian lands, of the demolition of their homes, of the blood of their women and children, and for the people of palestine to be recognized officially as a country, with its rightful capital in jerusalem. roisi also referred to how the occupying regime in jerusalem is seen as a perpetrator of much of the violence in the region. fittingly enough, it was the israeli ambassador to the... united nations giladdan who tried to interrupt the president's speech by walking into the hall holding up picture of massa amini who he later stated had been murdered by iranian of authorities. this is, as he well knows a lie was not murdered by anyone. nevertheless, the performance had him escorted away and detained by un security officials and experience israeli officials will have to get used to in upcoming years. erdans. stated
2:05 am
that he protested to make it clear that israel stands by the iranian people, and he earlier posted a video of himself standing in a protest held by iranian oppositionists in front of the un headquarters. irdan only succeeded in making it clear to the world that israel is deeply involved in attempting to sabotage and subvert the islamic republic because it poses a real incredible threat to the zionist occupation. the prime minister of the zionist entity also addressed the general assembly. and predictably launched what the hindustan times referred to as an all-out attack on iran. in his speech, he even said that iran must face a credible nuclear threat, a remark which his office later tried to walk back from. netanyahu also trailed a forthcoming normalization agreement with saudi arabia, though whether this expresses an optimism that will not be fulfilled, remains to be seen. he also advertised the continuing genocidal intent of the zionist entity. by holding up map of the region in

which the entity encompassed the west bank, gazza, and east quds. as always, we're joined by our residence expert david miller. david is academic and a former professor at bristol university, and is now a non-resident senior research fellow at the center for islam and global affairs at istanbul zaium university. he's also a co-director of the lobbying watch dog spinwatch and he's a leading british scholarly critic of israel. our guest expert today is peter ford, has extensive. experience as a british diplomat, working in beirout, cairo, riyad, singapore and paris. he was the british ambassador to bahrain from 1999 to 2003, and then syria from 2003 to 2006. and between 2006 and 2015, he was the representative of the commissioner general of the united nations relief and works agency for palestine refugees based in jordan. and today he joins us via skype. welcome to the show. david, is it true? that the only state
2:07 am
leader to raise the question of palestine uh at the assembly was uh president raisi of iran. well he was the only one to uh to significantly discuss the question of palestine. colombian president did mention palestine in quite a good way, contrast the way in which uh the international community dealt with question of ukraine with the question of palestine, but he was the only one who who dealt with it in any significant way, and uh that's an indication, isn't it, we've seen this before that iran is the is the state which is most supportive of the palestinian resistance, both in terms of rhetoric at the united nations, and in terms of practically on the ground by the supply of expertise and indeed of weaponry to the islamic resistance, indeed all.... the factions in palestine. well, peter, i mean, what did you make of gilad erden's protest at the un, during ray's speech? well, the israelis make a career out of victim hood,
2:08 am
and this going back many many years, having milked the whole of course for all it's worth, although they continue to try to extract some more. from there, they've fallen back on demonizing their neighbors, well that doesn't work anymore, they clearly in total control of the regional situation as regards the palestinians, as regards their former enemies, egypt and syria, and as regards the outer circle of potential arab enemies, clearly israel faces no threat and therefore they must play up the the one remaining potential threat from iran and i think that's what the the theater was all about in in new york. well, david, i mean erden's comments
2:09 am
about standing by the people of iran were perhaps more revealing than he intended on on israel subversion of wasn't it? yes, so we know of course that the uh recent uh riots and uh unrest in iran has been fermented largely from outside from the us, by the uk and also of course by israel, so we know that there's an attempt to to undermine the islamic republic that way, but of course the israelis have also historically and continue to to uh engage in the support of terrorism and terror attacks inside iran, we saw in particular in in the last year or so attacks in mosks with significant numbers of casualties, and when i was in in tiran earlier this year, the documentary about my my visit there and one of the the things which which most most moved me was being at this the uh the the graves memorials to some the marters who've been assassinated by the mossad in their cars and i went to see the cars of i think six different iranian
2:10 am
scientists who had been killed and the recordage of the car showing the ways in which they had been killed and that was moment which was saddening for me because of course we just learned that mi6 appeared to have some kind of role. in the most recent of the of the the marturs and the assassinations by most so it's an indication this this uh his words they are think of effectively admitting the role of israel in in terrorism in iran which which the whole world should be condemming absolutely yeah well peter i mean you used to work for the un didn't you i mean what's your sense of of how the general assembly relates to the question of palestine? well the general assembly. is the one part of the complicated structure of the united nations, the one part which is not totally under the thumb of the americans, there is, the un is not monolistic, there are
2:11 am
a series of bodies in the un, there's the the un bureaucracy, secretary general, all the un technical agencies, and then there are the more. political bodies like the general assembly, and there is a form of international democracy in the general assembly, given that it contains almost 200 members, all with one vote, unlike the security council, where of course the americans have veto and many other ways of exercising power, so the generalist assembly is is the the one um pillar of of the un where at least the palestinians can have a say and countries like iran can have a say defending the palestinians. yes, well david,
2:12 am
i mean netanyahu sounded incredibly threatening threatening, didn't he when when he made his contribution saying that youran needed to face a credible um nuclear threat. i mean, 'what do you make of that? well, it was interpreted as being a direct threat against iran, but of course, his office didn't really want it to be seen that way and so they tried to walk it back and say they didn't really mean that, but actually of course, the the uh israelis have been trying to to foster the atmosphere in which iran can be attacked for a great number of years now and of course what they want to do is for the the us to come in with them or at least to give them the green light for it but they've so far been unsuccessful in that but nevertheless there are all these lobby groups in the in the the us which are effectively uh um agents uh direct instruments of the zionist regime so for most obviously united against nuclear iran which is very far right neo neocon bunch of of lobbists which is trying to push the american government into
2:13 am
taking much more hardline action against iran although of course the americans have been taking hardline action against iran for a considerable number of years most obviously through the sanctions but what's interesting about this whole process is that iran has much like russia under the sanctions over ukraine has kind of risen above the sanctions and is now starting to produce technology which puts its role in the world stage way above the left. it had 30 years ago no indeed and being a significant player in bricks and so on as well, but peter, i see that netanyahu trailed a forthcoming normalization deal with saudi arabia, didn't he? i mean, what's your assessment of that, and the iran saudi deal and and what effect is it having on the struggle for palestine do you think? the situation is complex, but encouraging, i think, um, how can i possibly say that when it's seems that israel and and saudi, saudi being the less hold out among the arabs, they
2:14 am
appear to be on on the point of establishing relations and doing the dirty on the palestinians. well, i don't think it's going to happen, i'm probably in in a minority of one in making this prediction, picking my neck out, um, i said, over six months ago, the last time. the two sides, israelis and the saudies looked like they were going to get it together, this this was no more likely than the cow jumping over the moon, and i still say that, um, why? because the the saudis are playing, i think a very clever game, a game where it's more important to travel than to arrive, and so they're stringiing out these... negotiations, they're piling condition on condition, ever more
2:15 am
difficult conditions to fulfill. the saudis are apparently demanding three things, first security guarantees from the americans, effectively a nato article 5ive type guarantee, which the americans couldn't possibly deliver, secondly, the saudis are demanding assistance and permission first and then assistance in developing nuclear industry, but again this is well night impossible to concede, because the the american congress will never agree to it, and thirdly, the saudis are demanding to see some israeli meaningful conditions to make life easier, or at least more bearable for the palestinians. yeah, and so the game goes on, they've been going on already for months,
2:16 am
months and months, it can go on indefinitely. yeah, well, we'll just pause it there for for moment, peter, because we've got another report now about the history of the un's record on palestine and the response of certain non-governmental organizations or ngos to the un's position. the united nations has not been the greatest friend of the... palestinians, for the most part because of the united states and the uk veto on criticizing zinism. the question of palestine keeps returning to our screens, but why? well, it's an injustice and denial of human rights that has persisted for over 100 years. but the un does have a bersioning apparatus focused on assisting palestinian rights. the committee on the exercise of the inaliable rights of the palestinian people. was established by the general assembly in 1975. it has around 50 states as members or
2:17 am
observers, including algeria, china, cuba, iraq, laos, nicaragua, qatar, syria, venezuela and vietnam. in may this year, the un marked nakba day, the 75th anniversary of what was referred to as a scar on humanity. despite more than a thousand resolutions adopted on this issue since 1947 by the. united nations general assembly, security council and human rights council, not a single one has been implemented, including the most important resolution, demanding a right to return for. palestinians forced out in 1948 and after. the un human rights council works closely with the special reporteur on palestine. francesca albanezi has been in this post since may 2022 and is already major point of focus for the zionist. she is regularly abused and smaared by the regime itself and by three key front groups.
2:18 am
first ngo monitor which is based in occupied al-huods and is dedicated. to harassing non-governmental organizations which are critical of israel. it is so extreme that it even attack zionist groups such as the new israel, which are insufficiently hardlined. it was created by the us zionist group, benai berit international, which also created the spy agency, the adl. it has been funded by the israely government, jewish agency and several funders of the islamophobia network in the united states. second, un watch has tried to pretend it has complete independence from the american jewish committee, the us zionist group that runs it, but the public record shows that the ajc admits it is under its full control. un watch has repeatedly smeared and attacked albanesi from its geneva office with fabricated allegations. third,
2:19 am
the combat antisemitism movement, which was co-founded by the four. israeli spy and director general of the anti-bds ministry of strategic affairs, siema vackkin gill, it claims 650 members in its supporters network. as a result, the group is hardly able to present itself as independence of israel's foreign policy objectives. its ceo, sasha jatua has led smares against francesca albanezi. he was formerly social media chief for the israel occupation forces and he is chiefly known for blacking up with mud and labeling his photo obama style. lest we forget zinism is intrinsically and fundamentally racist. peter, i see the academic joseph masad has recently written about the role the un played in the creation of israel. i mean, what's your thoughts on on
2:20 am
that? what, what what you said about that? yes, well, the academic was. quite right to point out that the united nations was very much involved and very much responsible for the creation of the state of israel, the the secretary, the norwegian secretary general at the time trigzi lee was a confirmed zionist, and he put in place henchmen, such as ralph bunch, the us mediator. 'who helped in versing the zionist state, and this went on for number of years in the process, it's formed kind of stop, a minor concession to the palestinians, with the creation of the un, relief and works agency for palestine
2:21 am
refugees, but meanwhile, the israelis got away with a un assist in their bursing process and things have never basically changed, successive secretary generals have been supportive of israel down to the present day with guterres effectively condemning any moves by the palestinians, any meaningful moves of resistance by the palestinians. indeed, but we're just talking about the the the rapporteur, the special rapporteur, francesca albanesi, david, i mean, the attacks on her are pretty intense, i mean, i mean, have the zianist always attack the incombatt in this post in this way? well, yes of course they have, i mean that this is as peter says, the the the person who is in the the role of the rapporteur is is reporting to the general assembly and therefore is not an
2:22 am
appointment which is in the gift of the us or indeed of course of the zionists and so that what tends to happen is. point someone's independent and who goes and finds out what's happening in uh israel and design entity and uh it discovers surprise surprise there's ethnic cleansing and there's appalling human rights violations and of course they report that and the zints throw up their hands in horror clutch their pearls and they say oh these people are anti-semites now they did it they've been doing it to francescanese since before she was appointed to the role in may 2022 and they've done it to to the previous three uh uh um raporteurs as well including most famous one is of course richard falk, the esteemed academic, who's worked with chamsky and many others, who's work on palestine is extremely um uh independent and and evidence-based, so yes of course the designers hate the rapporteur, they try and sabotage their work, they don't just smear them in public, they try and stabotage their work by not letting them in to to gaza or to
2:23 am
to to parts of the west bank or by by chaperoning them or removing them, there's all sorts of ways in which they try and undermine and sabotage, which what is effectively the work of the united nations, you truly disgraceful, but not surprising at all, no indeed, well peter, drawing on your experience of working, for the united nations, what's your sense on the extent to which the machinery of the united nations actually supports the palestinian cause? yes, pro israeli so-called ngos, like un, watch have been harassing any of the agencies of the united nations, which were actually helping the palestinians, when i was with anra, the agency for palestine. refugees, we were constantly being harassed by ngs like un watch, but more importantly, we were being
2:24 am
harassed by the united states and its accolites in the european union, you see these these ngos were were playing for audience of one, washington essentially, and washington would then relay the talking points of the... of un watch, so we were under constant pressure from these kind of people. yeah, well david, i mean, you've looked at these lobby groups in depth, haven't you, i mean, how they related each other? well, the two are waited each other, you can see it in the diagram up here, ngo monitor in the center, there are much more central than the other one, un watch over to the side, they're they're extremely closely related together, there are some like 10 or 15 funding agents. these foundations (zians islamophobic foundations) fund both of them, and of course you look at common personnel are also related to uk, neoconservative think tanks like the henry jackson society, but also to the key
2:25 am
islamophobic groups in the us like uh like for example middle east forum, one of the key groups or indeed, the foundation for defensive democracies, which is uh as was revealed by the al-jazera film, effectively instrument of the design regime itself, so they're very closely related each other, and as as peter sayingly they're there to harass - ngos and in case of un watch anyone's engaging in the un system so they're there to harass and undermine the un system and really very revealing comment there from peter about how those talking points are then taken up and used by the us officials as well yeah well well peter briefly because we we're almost out of time i wonder whether you could tell us your experience of these lobby groups at the un level i think at the moment it it it it helps to look at the the wider. picture and beyond the the the un, for me the key actor at the moment is saudi arabia and this dialogue with iran and parallel dialogue with
2:26 am
with israel, because the net result is that israel is afraid to do anything absolutely beastly like total annexation of the occupied territories, because that would mean breaking off the talks about normalization. with saudi, similarly, israel would have to hesitate before attacking iran, because again that would up upset the the apple cart, bringing down not only iranian retribution against israel, but probably also against saudi arabia, what we're seeing, in fact is kind of reverse middle east peace process, only this time, it's operating. against israeli interest, yeah, well, that's it, i'm afraid for another show, so let me thank our guest, peter ford, and of course our residence expert, professor david miller.
2:27 am

was relentless military strikes on the gaza strips in saturday has reached nearly 1800, around 800 are women and children the... palestinian resistance movement, hamas is also continuing with his missile attacks on the occupied territories as part of operation and acts the flood. hamas says palestinians will not leave their homeland in a second nakma after israel demanded that people in northern gaza move south in 24 hours. hamas said people in gaza reject israeli threats and won't allow a repetition of nakbe referring to the mass displacement of palestinians in 1948.
