tv Gaza Under Attack4 PRESSTV November 1, 2023 12:02am-12:31am IRST
12:02 am
this is a good opportunity to segway into the of online conversation. latififakra, you have been looking at social media for us, what has caught your eye? so much, is available online, as we've said in past episodes, the war is no longer something that's just being fought on the ground, it's definitely something that has uh come online, um, this first video that i'd like to introduce is um, it shows. the reality of those palestinians who have taken up the mantle to fight um by showing the world
12:03 am
مخبز بيقصوا امر غريب جدا food one of the many things that palestinians are being deprived of absolutely and um he's not wrong it's this is a target for israel because they are you know through the information that's come out recently we understand exactly what their plan is, their plan is to isolate the uh the razens in a way that drives them into the seni desert so that they can completely vacate the land so that they can you know destroy it to pieces and make it so inhabitable that thens can never come back and that they can by the time that it does become it's all livable gasens can um gasens will have already built something to sustain themselves and their life would have moved on so there is a strategy here and it is disgusting to to see that the basic humane
12:04 am
things that we need to survive are being targeted, you know, this clearly bakery, cannot be used in a military capacity, why target it, um, but i guess what has been done right, we've seen it happen with hospitals and schools, so what can we expect of the designist entity really and truly? it's a good question, and all of it happening in a place that was already called the world's largest open air prison. "there is no shortage of the amount of misinformation out of there on the internet, on social media, or people masquerating as people they're not in of order to have some kind of an impact on their audiences there. what did you find as far as that is concerned? well, you know, if uh, guess it's very, that's an apt introduction for for the gentleman, although that's not a word that we should use for for someone like him, um, and what?" he does uh to the arabic
12:05 am
speaking world regarding israel and palestine. let's first have a view of this and we can discuss him in a moment. so um this is a little bit of satirical piece rather than you know an information piece from social media, but it definitely reflects the feeling - the arabic speaking world, especially towards uh the lieutenant uh colnel, so i don't know if you're familiar at all with him, but what he does is he he is an arabic speaker, he is obviously an israeli jew, a zionist, israeli jew, but he is a proficient arabic speaker and in some respects a religious quite following, huge following, but he uses his platform very much so to sew secretarian seeds within the arabic speaking world, he he often talks about the
12:06 am
shiah, he often talks about you, beware, oh muslims, the rawafat, this, the rawafat that, there is an agenda here, and he just to drive a wedge between the palestinians, that he is addressing, well not just the palestinians in in this particular video, yes he is addressing the palestinians and he is trying to make it out, um, i don't, obviously the palestinians can't hear him, because the electricity's been cut off, because they they have no way of charging their phones, there's no signal. for the for the internet, so he's clearly not addressing the gazzans, he's addressing the muslim world, but what is he saying? he's saying, oh palestinians, hamas is trying to do this to you, hamas is doing that to you, they're exploiting you, they're taking advantage, he's actually speaking to the arab speakers in the world trying to explain or trying to create a distinction between the resistance and between the actual palestinian people, when we know that often the resistance uh is there to protect the
12:07 am
palestinian people, they are, after all the democratically elected uh government of the palestinians in gazza. i was going to ask you about the symbolism of him being swatted by issue by that guy, but that's a conversation for another time, tell us about this one, this gentleman really, really captured my heart, um, بتبعثوا لنا بتبعثوا لنا حاملات طائرات انتم باللي عملتوه خليتونا فخورين بنفسنا انا رافع راسي فوق انه كل العالم الظالم تامر علينا ومش تامر بس بالكلمه لا بيبعتوا الصواريك وبيبعتوا طيارات وبيبعثوا حامل اطلاق الطائرات وبيبعثوا جند وبيبعثوا كذا وبيبعتوا جيش وبيبعثوا استخبارات اوف قد غزه قويه انا افتخر اني من غزه افتخر من هذا البلد اللي تاامرت عليه he's a very proud and speaking
12:08 am
from it what looks like tent yes absolutely this is something that yeah it's his home has been bombed where can he go he has to find a make shift way of sleeping and surviving but regardless, regardless of all the bombardment, regardless of all the you know degradation, the he is proud of his people cuz really and truly if if we if we do think about it in his in the same way that he does, this small strip of land, all the military powers of the world standing with um israel, all this equipment, all this machinery aimed at this small resistance who has you know been under um a land, air and sea. um uh blocade for over 16 years and they still can't get rid of these 2.2 million people? they must be mighty mighty people. it's israel's military might against the might of the palestinian resolve in gaza, well said and is not seem to be working, and it's
12:09 am
something that definitely i think all around the world people are speaking about. there are people in um on tiktok, there's a there's a huge movement of of non-muslims who are looking at the... resolve of the people of ghazzah and they like, how we we can't understand it, we can't fathem it, where are these people getting their resolved from, what is this islam, what is this god that they keep talking about, and they they're learning um about the palestinians and their faith through this mighty morale, this mighty resolve that you're referring to, resolve and resilience, i should say, i think that is what we're just about to see in here, not just in the old, but also in the young.
12:10 am
شاء الله يا رب تعدي الامور على خير صار لي سنتين ونص خاطرهing. when you see images like that, comments like that, but people who have just lost their loved ones and they are still going, it's like what other option do they have really, you know, what other option, you have to choose life at the end of it, but yes, the the resolve and the patience of the people of gazda has become legendary, um, this young man, you know, there's a saying, um, i can't remember which... uh former prime minister of israel said this, but they said that the the old will die and the young will forget, you know about the palestinian cause, um, it couldn't be more wrong, it could really not, people are willing sacrifice their futures, their happiness, the spouses, the their children, all willingly for the
12:11 am
resistance, because they know that living on their feet is worthy of all sacrifices, they would rather do that than die and live on their knees, and what despite all the lines of communication being down, people are listening in, watching, they are hearing them, as we saw in the streets of london and much of the world over the past few weeks, latif, thank you, we were hearing um dr. salama earlier say that the way the media here have covered uh the story was to basically laid a ground work for what it turned out to be genocide against the palestinians, right? what do you make of that? well, i think it's going to be counterproductive, because with the media top cover, to try and paint the palestinians as uh, as terrorists, basically who deserved what they were getting. i think that the
12:12 am
backlash in terms of the the demonstrations that have taken place have demonstrated that it hasn't worked, and actually the more uh the palestinian rights are are. disregarded, the more likely it is that the public will form a hardened view against israel, and i think that that is in progress right now, as we sit here. most of us in our lifetimes have never witnessed anything like this, not on the basis where we're seeing it on our televisions every single day, and i think it's quite obvious to the average fair-minded person that there are two standards being applied here, as as the uh as the lady said, is that on the one hand, you have a certain level of respect for israeli life, and on the other hand, you have complete and utter contempt for those in palestine who are being... stopped even of medicines and uh dr.
12:13 am
abusalama, do you also think that there has been a shift in public opinion, increase in awareness among members of the public uh of who the oppressor here is and and who the oppressed is, despite you know the support that the israelis have received materially and politically and diplomatically from the united states all the way to uh the western countries um in in decades? i think the popular support for palestine has been growing steadily for the past decades and israel is is has really lost um in terms of grassroots in terms of narrative and that's why they are seeking politicians such as byden. and tsunak and mainstream media to be
12:14 am
mouth pieces for their crimes, but the people who have made it to the streets of london, the streets of istanbul, all over, i'm really sorry, this, that's all right, i totally understand, please go ahead. this this has been very difficult period and with all the sleepless nights and my feeling of guilt eat while my family is hungry is uh has has completely affected my immune system so um it's the people. i believe that the people are on the side of the palestinians, the majority of humanity are on the side of the
12:15 am
palestinians and those that are acting as math pieces for genocide are going to be held to account and history will judge them, the same way history judged those who were complicit in south africa, apartide and other. atrocities around the world, we are witnessing unprecedented genocide happening in front of our eyes and we are unable, i have family there, some of them have have been buried in under the rubble of their own homes, my cousins and their children, five of them, have been dead while sleep, they've
12:16 am
been killed while sleeping, israel bombed their homes at 1 am, absolutely, it's it's yeah, it's it's impossible not to be overwhelmed uh by emotion when when we're inandated by images uh of children, women and others being basically inciderated body parts. being torn off as a result of these um massive bombs dropped on them 24/7 by the israeli military that's right and as as your guest has said israel is trying to target every means of survival for the people of ghaza. my mom had such a close encounter with murder as she was going. to get bread for our starving family, they are using the weapons
12:17 am
of starvation, of thirst against a whole population, in gaza, more than half of them are children, this is genocide and there is no justification for such crimes, there is no justification for for this, long standing injustice that has been befolling the palestinians over and over again, we, if the world has has a short term memory. that brings uh the context back to the seventh of october, we remember, our bodies remember, we will not forget, yeah, i'm sorry to interrupt you there, i just want to quickly get teta's thoughts here too, teta, i felt like you were
12:18 am
just about to say something, well, absolutely, i mean what she's saying is heart-rending, but more than this, it's that um people are listening and hearing, watch, this isn't the first time the palestinians have been through horrific experiences, but on account of series of events which has taken place starting with the pandemic, going on into the ukraine war, and the downstream impacts that's had on the quality and the standard of living for people in europe, i'm beginning to observe that actually, people in these countries which are very influential, are beginning to start to feel more empathetic towards people who are living in far more desperate circumstances, and this is something it seems that the people who are playing the from the playbook of yesterye haven't factored in. these demonstrations are
12:19 am
only the beginning of new wave of empathy and global. understanding for those who are being abused, it's a very aft point, thank you very much. um, the un secretary general antonio guterres, was a whistle stop tour of nepal, but the issue of the bombardment of gaza was not far behind, here's what he had to say, the situation in gaza is growing more desperate by the hours, i regret that instead of a critical need humanitarian pause supported by the international community, israel has intensified its military operations. the number of civilians who have been killed and injured is totally unacceptable. all parties must respect their obligations under international humanitarian law. that law emerged from the tragedy and
12:20 am
awful experiences of war. i've always been consistent in my call for. strict compliance the well established principles and rule of international humanitarian law. the protection of civilians is paramount. the laws of war establish clear rules to protect human life and respect humanitarian concerns. those laws cannot be contorted for the sake of expedience. the world is witnessing. humanitarian catastrophe taking place before our eyes, more than two million people with nowhere safe to go, are being denied the essentials for life, food, water, shelter and medical care, while being subjected to relentless bomb bombardments, i urge all those with responsibility to step back from the bring, and i reiterate my appeal for an
12:21 am
immediate humanitarian ceasfire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and the delivery of sustained humanitarian relief at the scale that meets the needs of the people of ghaza. we must join forces to end this nightmare for the people of gaza, israel and all those affected around the world, including here in nepal. words that have sof fallen on deaf ears. fahim muhammad is back here in the studio with me with the second helping of palestine in the news. fahema, what do you have to share with us? well, um, we do have uh, quite a few. few names fighting on the mainstream uh trying to put their narratives out on behalf of palestinian people and what's happening in the situation we have james schneider who is um well obviously before this we we discussed this before with the actual news having a sort of like um hate mob sort of like attitude calling all the palestinian uh sort of
12:22 am
protest that are out there as being jihadi mobs and obviously blanketing all of them under one umbrella. and sort of you know calling for it to be um a threat than demonstration and as you've said you've been there and so many other people and we've shown footage as well to show that there was such a diversity of people coming together so for this to be out there it's just clearly insightful is islamophobic and it's obviously sending message which is actually very very harsh and really really powerful uh against the muslims we have the james schneider one now yes the james schneider one which i was talking about he's been fighting um you know trying to get his point out there even um sort of like um debating for endorsing you know of war crimes and showing that this is definitely not right and and putting forward the history educating and making people aware the situation that it didn't just start on the 7th of october and you know really having a platform and speaking very very loudly on
12:23 am
these issues as we see here on gb news and at the same time calling for an immediate seaspy reflecting echoing what people have been saying in the streets and online as well elimination please let me answer uh it's entirely appropriate i'm very proud that we had half million people on the streets of london yester. day calling for seasar, that was what that protest was uh was about, and it's i probably the largest protest we've seen on the streets of london since those that opposed the iraq war in 2003. the overwhelming majority of british people want to see fire and they're raising their voice because that is the morally justified position. okay, and any attempts and there have been many, many attempts to characterize, you can see the treatment, yeah, you can see the treatment of even they allow. it because obviously the regulations have to show you sort of equal debate a balance, but the treatment of people that are even coming and speaking on behalf of the palestinians um is so different to anyone on
12:24 am
the opposing side, and you see that again and again and again on the mainstream media, and also but he's he's done really well to sort of like educate and bring about awareness, even though he's interrupted, disrupted, and not actually be given a chance, exactly, and here we have obviously the... memoration and memory of the um journalists that have been killed and journalists remember with you know clear press on and and so many have been killed, their families have been placed in sort of so-called safe um sort of you know settlement and even they have been bombed so again we have lot of that happening and then we have zahamed who is the uh head of the muslim council um sort of talking about the central ox oxford. mosk about the islamophobia attacks as this particular case was where a petrol can with the words idf rule was on there thrown at the gate of the mosk showing again islamophobic um you get
12:25 am
lot of coverage lot of coverage attacks yes but not on the islamophobia and again we've got the um the death toll as if we speak and obviously it's going to surpass as we're talking at this very moment in time past 800 mainly women and minors and obviously you've got the statistics to show that it's ever by the minute, and because again, it it excludes the number of people who are still caught under rubble, yes, that will push the number the dead, absolutely, we're going to see much more as we unfold, thank you very much, we'll have more from you next, of course, many thanks. turkish president has been one of the first leaders to strightenly condemn israeli actions, in a speech over the weekend, the turkish president made the... israel has been committing war crimes for 22 days, now israel, we will proclaim you as a war
12:26 am
criminal to the world, and we are making our preparations for this, the west has the biggest responsibility for the massacre in gaza, because israel would not be able to take a step without them, if it did, it would not survive the days, it would collapse. şimdi bunun. here in the studio again with me at teddy kofe, journalist and uh political commentator and on via skype uh palestinian born activist doctor um shad abu salama, thank you both for staying with us, i'll start with you uh tad, your your reaction to uh what president erdogan had to say, well it's it's... absolutely obvious, israel could not do what it does without the support of its principal ally, which is the united states of america, and until the people who
12:27 am
support israel to give it the backbone, to take such traiconian steps, pull back their support, israel will continue to act in this way, and it's a pity because this conflagration has the capacity for... drawing more and more people into the conflict. and with those words, we come to the end of the show. i'd like to thank my guests, teddy kofe, um, ali salam and dr. shad abu salama, and you of course for tuning in. until next time, goodbye.
12:28 am
these are terrorists here, and we can't legitimize the terrorists, this people here have got no respect. for humanity and for life, we want a resolution of the african union that says the embassies of israel in the wall of africa must go. you are saying to the children of palestine, your pain is. is
12:29 am
