the headlines, a un agency says only one hospital is now functioning in the northern part of the besiege ghaza strip as israel presses ahead with its attacks on alchifa hospital. us police attack pro palestinian protesters rolling outside the democratic national headquarters in washington making a number of arrests, and in the uk, nearly a third of the labor partymikers defy their leader to back the gaza ceasefire motion, as a pro-palestinian demo is held outside parliament.
2:31 pm
hello and welcome everybody, it's 2:30 p.m. here on the iranian capital tehrani, watching press tv's world news. our top story for this half hour, the israeli genocide in the gaza strip has entered its 41st day as the regime keeps pounding the blockated territory with air strikes, israel is now pressing ahead with its on al shifa hospital, which has turned into the focal point of its steadly raids, according to gaza health officials, israeli army's bulldozers and tanks have destroyed parts of the southern entrance to the medical complex, local sources said israely bulldozers and tanks have also raid at the complex is western entrance, the regime's military has confirmed that its raid on the facility which started on wednesday is still ongoing, hospital officials and doctors say the complex is water reserve has been nearly depleted. putting the lives of
2:32 pm
patients and people sheltering there at risk, they have also rejected israeli claims of delivering medical aid to al-shifa, saying the regimes forces are deliberately sabotaging the existing equipment. israeli forces enter the complex claiming that it was the top military command center of hamas resistance movement. hamas however is categorically denied the regime's allegation saying israel lies about finding weapons at the complex. almost six weeks have passed of since israel launched its war on gaza leading to the destruction and shutting down of even health facilities uh a un agency says only one hospital is now functioning in the northern part of the besiege strip the un office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs says out of 24 hospitals and clinics in northern gaza only one is receiving patients. it says 18 hospitals have shut down and evacuated while another five. only
2:33 pm
provide limited care to patients already admitted, including el shifa hospital. lack of power, oxygen, medical equipment and bombardments have been cited as reasons for their closure, according to the un, three hospitals shut in the past three days alone. the situation is left medical workers struggling to keep patients including premature babies alive. the un says even the palestinian red cross is unable to respond to calls for help to save those who remain trapped under the rubble. the israeli military says it has killed three palestinians near al-quts after they allegedly opened fire its forces. according to the israeli military at least seven troops were wounded one critically in the palestinians shooting operation. the incident took place a checkpoint guarding access to road tunnels linking the occupied west bank and alats. the regime has intensified its bloody attacks on the west bank. more than 190 palestinians have been killed by.
2:34 pm
israel's forces and settlers across the occupied territory since october the 7th, that's when the regime began its onslot against the besieged gaza strip. the international outcry against israel's brutal war on gaza continues to grow with people holding new mass rallies worldwide to show support for the palestinians. and washington protesters and police face stoff outside the democratic national headquarters as pro palestine groups flooded the vicinity, the protesters were calling for ceasefire, and the ghaza strip police evacuated the area after making some arrests, an anti-zinist jewish group has accused the police of violently assaulting peaceful protesters, elsewhere in the british capital and protesters rallied outside parliament
2:35 pm
demanding lawers back a ceasefire in gaza carrying palestinian flags a crowd criticized the politicians for their inaction also in jordan's capital amon security forces mobilized to guard... the us embassy as hundreds of pro-palestinian protesters gathered near the facility. the protesters condemned israeli raids on al-shifa hospital as well as uh the us support for the regime's atrocities. in the uk nearly a third of the labor party lawers have defied their leader to back uh skazasy's fire motions. the move further revealed divisions within the party over britain's approach to israel's devastating war on the ghaza strip on wednesday. 56 labor lawers voted along with the scottish national party in favor of two ceasefire motions at the house of commons. the voters included several high profile mps. labor leader kier starmer had threatened to sack any shadow minister who would support
2:36 pm
the motions. this came despite the fact that majority of the british people have been calling for immediate seasfire in gaza the motion put forth by the scottish party called for an end to the collector. of punishment of the palestinian people while demanding the government work for a ceasefire. press tv site purazo is joining us now from the british capital london side. it's great to see you again. uh, please walk us through what took place, as uh, nearly a third of labor party laws of defied their leader to back the gaza ceesfire motions talked us about this casm with regards to the gaza war. um, exactly bardia, casm is the right word, the vote happened yesterday, 7 p.m., we were there as several thousand people gathered outside parliament, chanting, seasfire, now for the entirety of the couple of hours that
2:37 pm
they were there, hoping that they would have some kind of an impact on the outcome of the vote yesterday, um, there were two amendments that were table. yesterday debated in parliament's house of commons, one by the smp, the scottish national party that call for immediate ceasefire, in scotland, it was supported by the first minister hamza yousuf, also called on uh the labor party leader there, sarwar to push the labor politicians to vote for it um in the british parliament, but there was another one as well, table by... labor under kire starmer that only called for a durable um cessation of fighting as soon as possible. the warding of course is important, we have known the labor party's position um on what is happening in the gaza strip, which was a humanitarian pause, they
2:38 pm
only changed the warding to durable uh succession of fighting just to prevent a mutane, a rebellion by the labor front benchers. um in the inside the uh inside the parliament, but what we saw happen was neither of those two motions or amendments um gained the required voting, of course, even if they had um they wouldn't really have much of an impact in terms of uh wrapping the government's hands behind its back, because the uk government's position under this conservative prime minister, rishack remains the same, which is still humanitarian positive. is short of a ceasefire. um, as that happened, as they say, there were protesters outside, and the a chance was shame on you, uh, to uh, the mps who refused to vote for the smp uh amendment to the king
2:39 pm
speech that called for an immediatefire. since then we have seen 56 labor mps uh backing smp, eight shadow ministers have... resigned their front bench positions as a result, making the number of um shadow ministers who have resigned so far, 10, and that of course was a 293 to 125 vote um for um for these two motions. now hamza yousuff, again, the scottish first minister has said that he was beyond angry uh at the result of this vote, but again um what i saw and heard the demonstrators there say was that they were going to come back that they were not going to stop their campaigning that they would continue doing so as they have over the past few weeks um every single weekend um still coming out again last night in a
2:40 pm
massive numbers a respectable sizable crot for a weekday um so what we're going to see moving forward in the days and weeks ahead more protests taking place. across the british capital and the country as the killing of palestinians in gaza, are joining us from the british. london, now joining us uh from the pakistani capital islamabad, we have founding executive director at the center for international strategic studies and former pakistani ambassador to the united nations, mr. alisarwar nagr ambassador, welcome to the program, but let's start off uh with the international response, international bodies uh response like the united nations to the ongoing massacre of palestinians in. as a why is the united nations sitting idly by? you see the basic
2:41 pm
problem is that the united nations can be effective and functional only if all its members desire to do so, then in the security council there is the discriminatory process of those members who are permanent and they can veto any resolution. so effectively they make the security council totally, mean i impractical and ineffective to work with, so the international community has its own politics, each country follows its own national interest, and the the glaring tragedy of gaza where thous of people have already died, men and women are dying, and
2:42 pm
the entire landscape is being bombarded and raised to the ground, all this is being ignored by the international community, because of these very short term and short sighted objectives of national interest and it is it is an indictment of the international community. that it has not been able to do anything so far, so if if the likes of the united nations can't take action, then we have to uh turn our attention to bodies like the icc or the icj. uh, there is um invoking of genocide commission within the icj which can be invoked by uh member countries, there's also the icc where countries like algeria have called uh for open of case of genocide against uh the palestinians uh against the palestinians in
2:43 pm
gaza being carried out by the israeli regime. colombia is also uh voice support for that call by algeria. what about the direction that those international bodies can take when there's non-compliance by the likes of the israelis, when there's pressure on behalf of the united states uh to uh to these bodies where they are not allowed. to pursue uh such motions and how can they intervene? how can there be consequences to the killing of women and children to the massacring of innocent uh children to bombing schools, to bombing hospitals, even bombing un shelters by the israel. well, yes, you have put your finger on the the problem that exists and that is the icj has no enforcement authority, the icj can only give advisory opinion, it cannot compel a state to take action this way or
2:44 pm
that, similarly the international criminal court is again an advisory court which can indicate a person or a country or a group of people, but it cannot take any action against whatever entity it has indicted so. so the result is that these two bodies are effectively unable to do anything to stop what is going on in gaza. the gaza, the people, population of gaza is at the mercy of the israeli authorities who are hell bent on completely eradicating the gazan people and therefore. they are, you are right, that they are, they are guilty of of genocide, genocide
2:45 pm
is the systematic elimination of an entire people by killing and by destroying whatever they have, their houses, their property, and in this way tracing completely wiping out the all traces of their existence, and this is: a unfortunate and in fact a tragic development in regard to what is happening to gaza and the... rest of the world cannot do anything about it. right, this is very tragic, as you mentioned, so um, based on what you said, the united nations uh, in some way we can say that uh, in terms of situations like this, it's dysfunctional, because all members have to agree specifically with the united nations security council, the united states support for israel will not allow that to happen, you
2:46 pm
also mentioned that the uh bodies like the icj and the icc uh are ineffective. uh in situations like this, so then we have to turn our attention to uh other regional bodies, for example, we can talk about arab governments and islamic countries, they should be uh, would you agree that they should be more uh involved, they should be giving a collective response uh to the israelis to put more pressure on the israelis, those countries that have normalized relations uh with the israeli regime, they have the option of scrapping uh, the normalization deals, other countries have the options of recalling their ambassadors, why aren't we seeing that form of collective um response from arab and muslim countries in the face of the israeli crimes that have been committed? well that is the unfortunate thing that the arab countries and the muslim countries as a whole are not doing anything
2:47 pm
to stop what in gaza. the only time that i remember that the arab countries got together to take action against the west was in 1973 and that was when they established the oil embargo against the west and i remember that in london there were long cuwees of cars because they could not get any gasoline or petrol so if the muslim countries decide. to act collectively on this particular problem and they have convend a meeting and they have held a summit meeting of oic and arab league, but those bodies have not recommended direct action by the muslim countries, because those
2:48 pm
people who have been involved in the drafting the resolution. have just stopped short of taking action of calling for some action, they have basically condemned the action of israel, but they have not recommended any any concrete step to deal with it. all right, ambassador, here's another issue i want you to uh dissect for us. and that's the narrative that uh not only the israelis but also the the mainstream western media is pushing forth and that's uh the uh the israelis playing the victim card calling hamas resistance fighters terroris here uh we know that this is under international law the entire uh palestinian population is under
2:49 pm
occupation uh and the israelis are an occupying force the occupiing force can claim uh self-defense, that does not uh, it does not stand with an occupy force, and of course uh the uh people, the population that's being occupied also under international law, they have the right to resist, they have the right to armed resistance, uh, they have the right to uh to resist under any means necessary, so how would you explain that narrative that's being pushed forth by the israelis and by the mainstream western media? this is absolutely eye wash for the rest of the world, the israeli narrative is that they are all the entire area of gaza is under the control of the terrorists and they are trying to wipe out the terrorists. now women and children
2:50 pm
cannot be terrorists and the innocent population of that area. has nothing to do with terrorism, israel is just trying to do something which it feels that that will give it lot of credit with the israeli population and the government of netan yahoo is basically looking its re-election prospects, it is inhuman government which is indulging in the most heenos of crimes against an entire population and not stopping short of putting them under all kinds of constraints as the occupied four as a occupied territory, but the israeli occupation force is now trying to eliminate them, so this is most
2:51 pm
reprehensible, it has never happened in history that one so-called state is taking this kind of horrendous action against a population which is unarmed and is not able to deal with. this kind of military action by the state as a whole, so i think the whole situation is my most worrium and it can lead to all kinds of other situation and developments in the area in the region and cause total inistability and and uh warfare, conflict and chaos. now let's us to turn our focus uh to the uh us support uh for what's
2:52 pm
taking place with regards to the massacre of palestinians in gaza, many call it support, many would even go further and say that the us is complicit in the war crimes that are taking place right now, and with the level of death and destruction and uh the death of innocent uh civilians, women and children, we're seeing cracks in the u.s. itself with regards to the support that the biden administration is giving the israelis uh at this point, so one must ask how much support is too much support uh from the us, and whether this is ultimately going to backfire for washington, because you know in the vietnam war, the reason the us administration. was forced to sue for peace and to hold peace talks in paris in the 60s, and early 70s of the last century, was
2:53 pm
because of public protest, because of the fact that people came out on the streets, students in the universities came out in protest and demonstration against the policies of the government, so there was such a... massive change in public opinion that the government had to also alter its foreign policy. now here the situation is very worrisome and very bad, but unfortunately the israeli and the jewish lobby in the united states is using all resources and keeping the media its side the... media in america is still talking about israel's right of defense and israel's dealing of the threat that it
2:54 pm
come that comes from gaza so the media war has to be fought also and i think if public opinion turns against israely action then the media will also have to follow suit and and changes stunce. all right, thanks lot for your time, sir. ali saravi, founding executive director at the center for international strategic studies and former pakistani ambassador to the un, joining us from islamlot. thank you, sir. and with that, it also brings us to an end here on this edition of the world news, but stick around, i'll be back on the top of the our news and brief, see you in a bit. and creation of the... regime, both sides came to realize the power of cinema in getting their messages across. israeli regime used cinema to show
2:55 pm
the territory it had occupied as heaven on earth, in order to entice jews from all over the world to migrate to the occupied territories. on the other hand, although belatedly, palestinians also learn to use the power of media and cinema to make their voice heard across the world. it was new battlefield for both sides. oh. playing the victim, the regime called it an unprovoked attack.
2:56 pm
but did hamas really attack the regime out of the blue with no good reason? gaza stripped of life soon onpress tv.
2:57 pm
i believe that working together we can make his street.
2:58 pm
2:59 pm
3:00 pm
israel presses head with its attacks on gaza's shifa hospital which has turned into the focal point of its deadly raids in the besieged territory. a un agency says out of 24 hospitals in the north of the wartorn gaza strip, only one is now receiving patients, it says 18 hospitals have been shut down while another five are providing limited care. the palestinian red cross is also unable to help those who are trapped under the rubble. in washington pro palestine riley turns violent as...
