2:34 pm
of the most destructed, destroyed and devastated areas in and rafah as a result of the ongoing and of attacks against that neighborhood. the hamamas resistance movement says his military leader is fine after israel's assassination attempts against them in gaza. the top hamas official said that muhammad dave continues to directly oversee the operations of the resistance fighters. on saturday israel said that a targeted death during air strikes on israel seeks to cover up the horrific massacre in the almasi refugee camp. at least 90 people were killed and 300 others wounded in the israel's air strikes on the camp located in an area designated by israel itself as safe zone. the senior hamas official has criticized netanyahu for undermining seafire negotiations saying the israeli prime minister is responsible if the ongoing talks fail. he asserted that resistance in gaza
2:35 pm
will not bow down to netanyahu's plans and awaits a response for mediators. despite the challenges, alhaya firmed that the resistance is in a strong negotiating position and is close to achieving his goals, while netanyahu faces pressure from multiple fronts. in separate statement, hamas said his chief ismahaniah has contacted mediators and some regional countries on gaza seesfire, and the blame failure of the talks on israel's changing position and new conditions put forth by netanyahu. he added that the massacer at the almasi refugee camp was also aimed at undermining the ceasefiree locks. political commentator anthony hall joined us earlier to share his stake on the obstacles the ongoing truth talks between israel and the palestinian resistance group hamas. we're
2:36 pm
coming up to uh one year already uh it is uh netanyahu waiting for trump to get in power so he can get a better. even a better deal from the united states, he wants it clear that the israel retains the right to use its superior military force, it's high-tech military force until uh hamas is eradicated, meaning until all the palestinians are neutralized one way or another, pushed out of the territory so that the region can be ethnically cleansed. works very closely historically with hamas, it's well known, he he is very deeply embedded in all the intrigues of of hamas, he has been funding it and qatar has been funding it, the world community it's just too quiet, it's just too
2:37 pm
reflective of the fact that people can talk uh big lines, but taking action, the time is come for action, somebody has to step in between between the palestinian civilians and the idf, many countries could do many concrete things and we don't see much of that happening. lebanese resistance movement has carried out a fresh rocket strike against israeli positions in a northern occupied territories. report say that the strike targeted a group of israeli soldiers in western galilei. no immediate reports on the number. casualties yet, for more on that story, we were earlier joined by our bayroot correspondent miami, well the only official statement we have coming out from hizbillah's resistance movement uh is that they targeted deployment of soldiers uh near the barracks,
2:38 pm
had bearin or had albustan, actually it is, it has two different names in that settlement specifically uh hazbullah seems to have targeted soldiers, they say they hit their target very precisely uh leaving half scores of soldiers either killed or wounded, of course they have not verified in their statements - the number of israeli soldiers, we still don't have news coming out from the israeli media as well talking about certain casualties in that area, but we do know that sirens are sanding in several settlements specifically in the upper galile region and the israeli war planes also are flying a very low altitude, but we're looking at is something that seems to have transformed into a daily pursuit between the israeli war plananes and hizbillah drones, it seems that this is one of the main um strategies for hisballah, the use of these drones, the attack drones or drones even used for shelling, are something that the israelies did not have quite in mind, they are not being detected by the irondrome system, they are not being intercepted, also in any way,
2:39 pm
it seems the israeli defenses seem to be incapable of stopping hazbillah drones, so now recently, especially with the fact that hazbullah is sending in a bigger number of... drones uh to uh target the israeli posts and israeli military military targets, the israelies have been using the warplanes, so for the war plans lying a very low altitude, trying to stop them, it's been like a stalking type of daily pursuit for these war planes, they have been still incapable and unsuccessful um to stop these uh these drones, former us president donald trump has been injured after a gun been open fired during a campaign rally in pennsylvania. you want to really see something to said take a look what happened fire multiple shots from an elevator position outside of the rally
2:40 pm
venue trump is speaking to supporters in butler pennsylvania his team and secret service confirmed that he was fine in a social media post following the attack trump said was set by a bullet that pierced the upper part of his right ear. one spectator was killed and at least two were critically injured. the secret service said the shooter was also killed. us law enforcement officials say the incident is investigated. as attempted assassination. this evening we had what we calling assassination attempt against our former president donald trump. it's still an active crime scene. as i mentioned, we have number of agents on scene. we also are working closely with other federal agencies, our state partners and our local police partners as well. again, at this time we're not prepared to identify. has identified the shooter as 20-year-old thomas matthew crix. however, there is still not any mention of a
2:41 pm
potential motive or whether anyone else was involved. reacting to the shooting, president joe biden described it as sick and dinner political violence. biden said that he was grateful that trump was safe and doing well. our reactions are pouring in following the assassination attempts against former us president donald trump at an election rally in state of pennsylvania. china's presidents. his compassion and sympathy to trump, saying that beijing is closely following the situation. moscow said washington had better use the money allocated for ukraine's military aid to fund the american policy, or police, that is, and other services that are supposed to ensure law and order in the us. the european union's foreign policy chief joseph the attack as another unacceptable act of violence against political representatives. the uk minister, kier starmer said that he was appalled by what he called shocking scenes at the rally. italian prime minister george. also denounced the shooting and expressed solidarity with trump.
2:42 pm
there's a long history of shootings in us politics, including those that targeted presidents and presidential candidates. the following report is look at some of these attacks. in 1981, republican president ronald reagan was seriously wounded in shooting as he left the hotel in washington, the incident left them hospitalized for 12 days. in 1975, republican president ford was targeted by two separate assassination attempts, both in california and 17 days apart. ford escaped unscated. in 1972, george wallace was shot four times as he campaigned for the democratic presidential nomination in laural maryland. the shooting left the racial segregation is paralyzed for life. in 1968, robert f kennedy was shot dead during a campaign for the democratic presidential nomination in los angeles, california. in 1963, democratic president john f. kennedy was assassinated while riding his motorcade
2:43 pm
alongside his wife in dallas, texas. in 1933, democratic president elect franklin d. roosevelt was targeted by assassination attempt in miami, florida. he escaped unscale. in 1912, republican theodore roosevelt was shot as he campaigned for the white house as a former president. he survived the shooting in milwaukee wisconsin. in 1901, republican president william mckinley was shot during a public meeting in buffalo, new york. he died from the gunshot wound. in 1865, republican president abraham lincoln was assassinated by confederate sympathizer a theater just days after the end the us civil war, which the confederate lost. let's discuss a little further with mcnavier, co-founder of the scottish palestine solidarity campaign. uh, welcome to the program here. so uh, we are looking at assassination attempt. at the uh presidential candidate of the us there, donald trump. i'll taking a look at the way that this is uh
2:44 pm
happened, we don't have motive yet behind why the shooter did that. of course we won't get one because the shooter has been killed, but uh, it's a charged up atmosphere there in the us when it comes to politics. why do you think the situation is uh to the point that we're seeing these types of acts occur? you're right, just listening to your to your to your peace immediately before now, and looking at all the american president. have been killed, survived the shooting or been being the the subject of attempted assassination. it seems that shooting presidents and trying to shoot president is a long american tradition, and of course it comes in in against the back cloth of america being one of the most heavily armed countries in the world, more americans kill each other with guns than i think almost any other country in the world, um, it's a real public health epidemic actually, so it's shocking, but not surprised. "i mean, americans often settle differences through violence. the state, for example, um, targets political
2:45 pm
movements which are deemed to be subversive, for example, the us black panther party at the end of the last century, most of the leaders were killed by the fbi, shot dead and so on, and and other uh activists for black liberation were also shot dead, so it's shocking, but it's not surprising, and i guess the concern now is that..." trump supporters will seek revenge uh us journalists have reported such calls actually at trump's meeting after the shooting was confirmed. now who will they target? well trump's. base is a little bit different from bidens, both of them are, parties of empire, both of them are parties of invading other countries and killing very very large numbers of of of local people, but there's a major difference in that trump makes a makes a special appeal uh to to white racists, by no means all his bases white racist, but there's a very large section of them who are, so with
2:46 pm
that god it wasn't a black person who tried to kill trump, because in that case we would see revenge attacks and black people assure follows. but i think we can expect some sort of uh violent reaction um it's difficult to say now reprisals yes but against whom i think the wider situation is that america is so violent internally um and so heavily armed it's a kind of it's it's almost a kind of vestige of the earlier period of american history of the west of everyone of so many people carrying a gun and selling settling differences with guns and that's is carried over, so if you like the the the the history of colonialism in north america, the extermination of the natives, the widespread use of firearms, means that there's a big difference between america and britain or america and japan, and both in all of these cases you have two two two two potential ruling parties which are very very similar, but in america there are real differences,
2:47 pm
and some expert analysts see the beginnings of incipient uh drift towards civil war in america because the tensions between republicans and democrats uh are qualitatively different from another from from european other countries where people don't speak each other families are divided and uh i don't i think people are shocked but no one is surprised by the assassination attempt on on trump the one thing to say is although they won't say publicly many people are raging and looking for revenge and lot of people would be would regret that he missed such is the intent. of political tensions in the usa at the moment, well when you mention that that shows just how high the emotions are and how politically politically charged people are, americans are, when it comes to politics in general, and it's it reflects itself when we take a look at some polls that indicate that many americans, some polls indicate 10% of the population actually is okay with the fact that there should be
2:48 pm
political violence exercised against whomever when it comes to politics in general. pretty alarming because you're looking at about 20 or 30 million there i believe uh isn't that uh something to to be analyzed as to why uh americans feel that that's okay to use violence um political nature against another whether it's another american or politician very much so very much so and the roots really lie quite deep in american history as i mentioned um americans quite often resolve differences at street level using guns some areas of the country uh 'you just don't want to walk there at night or even during the day because gun fire, gun ownership and the readiness to use guns uh to resolve differences is quite special to america um and it does drift into politics as well, there are there are quite a lot of extreme right-wing armed militias in america at the moment who publicly train for a civil war,
2:49 pm
publicly train to use political violence against their opponents, and their opponents are seen variously as immigrants'. people with brown and black skin as democrats and so on, but there's a there's a rage in american politics which is actually missing in other comparable countries, and i think the roots do lie very deep, this tradition of carrying weapons, carrying them openly, feeling that it's okay to exterminate the wrong kind of people native americans, to use weapons against black people who were enslaved for very long time, you cannot keep you cannot keep slaves without violence burning. or sink eating deep into the body politic, so that hasn't been expunged. um, there are many, many reasons for this, but i don't think too many people would be surprised by this latest assassination attempt, and your your reporter told us just before this discussion, all the american presidents who've been in the crosshairs of assassins, uh, it would be
2:50 pm
surprising, if nobody tried to assassinate trump, actually. thank you for that. mc nabrier, uh, from the palestine solidarity campaign. we appreciate it, but we have asked political commentator john stepling for his take on the failed assassination attempt against former us president donald trump. yeah, i don't, i don't think you can um, first of all lay the the political violence at at the feet of trump, it has existed for a long time in us. it's an extraordinarily violent society. it has been from its inception, it was founded on. "we've talked about this, i mean, you know, the the police violence in the us is is at an extraordinarily high level, and and i think other nations, sometimes people foreign." don't understand just how violent and racist american please are, so the fact that 10% of americans think political violence is okay,
2:51 pm
should hardly surprise anybody, doesn't surprise me, this is very violent society, everybody owns a gun, there are more guns than people in the united states, and as i said, 700 armed people were shot by by uh... so so the police operate in poor neighborhoods like an occupation army and and their trained in counter insurgency tactics, often they are trained by israeli soldiers, it's a violent country, that is for this additional world news, thanks for being with us, that's all i for now.
