9:31 pm
hello and welcome you watching press tv's world news. i'm maria hashim. thanks so much for being with us first back to gaza this of hour where israel continues to press ahead with its deadly strikes on the gaza strip. of more than nine months into its general side of war on palestinians in the blockated territory. 17 more palestinians were killed after the regime attacked an andros school in the nasarad refugee camp. the school has housed hundreds of displaced people. israel war plays also pounded gaza city and khan unines leading over dozen people dead. according to the gaza health ministry, 141 more palestinians were killed and some 400 others wounded during the... last day, israel
9:32 pm
launched its genel side of war on gaza in october of last year, more than 80,00, sorry, more than 38,580 people, mostly women and children have been killed since then. n months have passed since israel's brutal invasion began on gaz where the regime's army continues to relentless bomb buildings, shelters and schools, now the people of gods that witnessed the killing of women, children and elder. every day in israeli bombis our gaza correspondent has visited a targeted school to capture their pain and suffering from close up of course has definitely retaliated for the killing of civilians and the targeting of civilian areas especially since there was a very heavy shelling on the town of bleda in addition to hammam as well there was a lot of heavy shaming weather from
9:33 pm
artillery fire even drone attacks against that area hezbullah has of course retaliated with several operations, especially against a group of soldiers that were seen moving in the surrounding of the alam post which is in the shibha farms, farms and at this the the main operation today was in retaliation for the killing of two civilians and the targeting of civilian vehicles in the main route which is of course taken by civilians a daily basis was a uh the attack of squadron of drones, we're talking about maybe tens, maybe hundreds, it's not clear, the number of drones has lot us in this, we know that the israeli war planes failed in stopping intercepting these drones, the extent they were pursuing the drones and several areas all across the galile, but it seemed that those drone made it to their target and reach the area of elite, which is the recent recent barks of the 91st division, definitely this had left. fours of israeli soldiers killed or
9:34 pm
wounded, of course does not give exact numbers and the israelis have not admitted to the exact numbers item dealing with lebanon and hezbullah and not gaza, sorry about the mix up. meanwile the lebanese resistance movement, hezbolah has conducted new operations against israeli positions in the occupied territories. the operations were in retaliation for the israeli regime's atrocities, civilians. in southern lebanon and the general side of war on palestinians in the besieged gaza strip, and of course you've just seen that message from our correspondent mariam sadley, just brought us more on that item. moving to more news, now millions of muslims across iran and other countries are taking part in morning processions on the eve of thawa, the ninth day of the lunar month of muharram. kosowa preceeds ashura the day when imam hussain the third.
9:35 pm
muslims hold morning ceremonies during the first 10 days of haram to commemorate imam hussein, grandson of islam's prophet muhammad, his 72 companions. they were all mardd brutally in the battle of carbala in southern iraq in 680 ad, after fight courageously for justice against much larger army of the den omaid khaliif. tasuwa mainly morns imam hussein's brother abbas who made great sacrifices to protect the imam and his family. morners were black during this time and host special ceremonies and rituals, mostly reciting the heart-wrenching events of carbala. crisis devastating wars, terrorism.
9:36 pm
the israel lobby, crackdown. diplomacy, us political violence. the federal bureau of investigation, fbi has rated the home of the suspect in the assassination attempt on donald trump near the us city of. the shooter has been identified as 20-year-old thomas matthew crooks. bomba making materials have been found in his car and home. krooks reportedly used a semi-automatic rifle to carry out the attack. trump was speaking to supporters in butler pennsylvania on saturday when he was shot. in social media post
9:37 pm
following the attack, trump said he was hit by a bullet that piercing the other part of his right ear. one spectator was killed and at least two were critically injured. the shooter was also killed in the scene. investigations are underway to find out m to determine whether the shooter had accomplices. the fbi is investigating the incident as an attempted assassination. we cross over to irvine, california, joined by paul, academic and commentator. thanks so much for being with us. well, your overall assessment of this assassination attempt. number one, i saw being interviewed yesterday, one of the persons who attended the rally, said he had gone to a policeman and pointed to the two buildings and said there's a man up there walking around, this
9:38 pm
the secret service didn't even have anyone on those buildings, i mean this typical lack secret service, the same secret service that refused that the bomber. administration is refused to give any protection for robert kennedy jr. who had an uncle and father assassinated, and so number one, i blame it on uh our politics of uh poor secret service uh protection, it should have been very obvious to have people on those buildings there, and yes it was obviously assassination, uh, cnn, probably the most dishonest media in america originally uh posted. article saying that trump had fallen and had be caught by the secret service, they were were trying to say, well look, biden isn't the only person to falls, even trump falls, it didn't bother mention there's a good reason why he was falling, yeah, well interesting, but in general, i mean, paul,
9:39 pm
um, the united states is not foreign to violence, nor to political violence, i mean, with this happening at this point in time, and i mean there's a few... months left to the november election, how do you see this affecting um right now the uh from now november uh as far as what is happening and reaction in the country prior to the election? well for many months uh the mainstream media and the major democratic political leaders and even some republicans have been saying that trump was fascist dictator uh that he if if elected he'll arrest his opponents and throw them in jail, they've described themselves, i mean how many cases have they had against trump? uh, we'll see if they stop doing that, i doubt it, uh, they just they consider the president and his wife and others high level doing it, they'll
9:40 pm
just have lower level people going out and repeating these same lies about trump. i'm indicating any way i'm a trump, i'm personally voting for the libertarian uh party candidate and as people should be, the're only two candidates who uh support gaza, and you either got chase oliver, the libertarian party candidate, chill sign green party, both support gaza, uh, voters don't. have to to vote for biden or trump, they can go elsewhere. yeah, of course, not likely to happen in a country that the two-party system basically has been ruling for forever. uh, i mean, do you see any type of, because following uh the social media since this assassination attempt, we see uh, what seems like major skisms for perspective, and those who feel that was fake, and the other side who feels that... "there was uh some collusion from the secret service or others, i mean it seems like very, very volatile
9:41 pm
environment right now, your thoughts, well, of course it is, uh, i already identified some of the things that need to be explained, uh, you know, when running against biden, you depend on his secret service to defend you, you, you, it's not going to be, it's not going to be perfect in any in any case, even for biden, but..." uh, it was, it was, it was shy protection, and at least it was more protection that robert kennedy jr. gets, which is nothing. all right, well, thank you so much for being with us out of irvine, academic and commentator. now moving to other news this hour, today marks the anniversary the signing of the ill-fated joint comphensive plan of action between iran and the p5 plus one, the five permanent members the un security. counsel plus germany. under the 2015 deal, iran placed restrictions its
9:42 pm
peaceful nuclear program in exchange for the removal of western and un sanctions. and the agreement was enshrined in a un security council resolution. however, the us unilaterally abandoned the agreement in 2018 and re-imposed sanction on iran, leaving the jcpo tatters. iran waited for year and then began to gradually roll back its commitments after the european signatories to the. failed to compensate for the us's withdrawal, since that efforts to revive the jcpo have proved unsuccessful, leaving it in, crossing over to kitchner, joined by author and journalist robert fantina, thank you so much for being with us, i mean robert, your overall assessment first of all of the original jcpo. "the original agreement of course was beneficial to iran and to much of the world,
9:43 pm
uh, there was fear about iran's nuclear program, despite the fact that iranian officials have always said for peaceful purposes, but the agreement was hammered out under then president obama, which gave some sanctions relief to iran, which is important to do, uh, the united states never released all the sanctions that it promised to, but it did provide a certain amount of relief which was beneficial to the country, so that in itself was was very positive uh, the..." as you mentioned, it was enshrined in a un united nations security council resolution. it was legal binding document uh in international law. well, i mean, what does it say really about the united states in general that this was something that was sign by the united states and then of course uh, donald trump, when he came, he basically left it, and we did not see the europeans that compensating, they said that they would um set up mechanisms uh for. iran to be relieved from the sanctions, but that never happened, so what does it mean in general to try to
9:44 pm
make deal or sign deal with the with the whole western hegemonic front? really? well, it's any such deal is meaningless, it will be at here to as long as it's convenient and beneficial for the the west to maintain it and especially the united states, but once for whatever reason, whatever wim a new president or anything else uh decide. that it's not, it's not in their best interest anymore, then they will simply rip up the agreement. this is the united states has done this repeatedly the donald trump years, but also before, it has a long history of violating its commitments to uh treaties and international law. now we as you mentioned, it was year, full year that after the us and the us dignatories violated the jcpa that iran kept its commitments, it was under no obligation to do so as soon as it was violated, but government of iran hoping that cooler heads would prevail and that someone would reasonably see that this violation was
9:45 pm
a detrimental for everybody, the iranian government waited for a full year and then it began to to roll back its commitments, which is completely more than reasonable for it to have done, so to get your initial question, the west and especially the united states cannot be relied to maintain its commitments, the uh other signatories would have maintained jcpa, except they were threatened with sanctions by the united states that they did, so the united states will use its uh economic power and its military power to get its way in the world, regardless of how how how uh detrimental that might... be to anyone else in the world, well doesn't it also expose the hypocrisy when we see what has been taking place the last over n months now the genocide by the israeli regime, a regime that actually has nuclear weapons, a regime that hasn't abided by international law um that no sanctions, no fly zone, no pressure
9:46 pm
uh from these same entities that have put so much pressure on iran's peaceful nuclear. program: mean, doesn't it just expose the overall hypocrisy about the whole western hegemonic front? it certainly does if any additional exposure of that party was even needed, but we look at what's happening in gaza and in the west bank today, but certainly far in gaza, where people, men women, children starving to death, they're suffering, they're injured in bombing rates, and there's no aid for them, and the united states, which is financing all of this and giving israel cover diplomatic cover. on the international stage through the united nations and through attempting to uh bribe and intimidate uh the international uh court of justice in various ways, it's just it's complete hypocrisy. the united states that it's a proclaims that it's a country of laws and it follows international law, and yet here it is financing a genocide, a brutal
9:47 pm
genocide, we're seeing on on social media, we're seeing the horrific suffering and it's continuing to do so. right, but uh, iran peaceful nuclear program brings sanctions. all right, well, thank you so much for being with us out of kishna ontario, robert fatina, author and journalists. well, in its latest report, the world bank has predicted a 3.2% growth for iran's economy in 2024. the financial body also predicted a 5% decrease in the country's inflation rate. the report was published under the title of continued economic growth in iran, amid political tensions in the region. it shows improvement in iran's main economic indicators, especially the economic growth, inflation, unemployment, poverty, and income distribution during the past three years. the world bank has also predicted that iran's oil production will increase by 200,00 barrels compared to the previous year. well, may in
9:48 pm
the world believe that israel should be banned from participating in the paris olympics due to its committing genocide in the gaza strip. well, some others argue that the olympics is a sporting event and should not be mixed with politics. however, in our explaining program, we've discussed the importance of banning israel from the olympics and provided instances of other countries being banned from previous games. well, when it comes to the olympics major sporting event, there is an understanding that sports should not be inter. twine with politics, but over the years there have been instances where this was just not the case in terms of this year's olympics due to the uh beheld in paris, france, the controversy lies in israel admitted to participate while it is committing a genocide in the gaza strip. well, before bending, beginning on why israel
9:49 pm
should be ben from the olympics, here are other examples of politics intertwine with the olympics: 1920... for paris, the ban of germany following world war ii continued through though austria, bulgaria and turkey and hungary were allowed to compete. 1948 in london, germany and japan were bored for their participation for the second world war. 1964, tokyo, south africa was banned by the ioc from taking part due to its oppressive apartide regime. well, the olympics has a committee that can decide. who to buy from the games, given the ioc stance that violators of uh international peace should not pertake in global events like the olympics, it bess a question, why is israel not banned, especially since it banned russia for its military operations in ukraine. for example, shouldn't the ioc consider whether it's appropriate for any nation if condemned
9:50 pm
by the international court of justice for grave violations to compete without address its international obligations first, well as it stands, the russian and belurushian athletes are bad from the paris games due to moscow's military operation in ukraine, now this ban means they are allowed to compete only under neutral banner, not their countries, neutral banner means competing without their country's flags, emblems our countries colors even the russian anthem is barred, replaced by music committed. message that it does not recognize either russia nor belarus as countries, yet it allows a child killing regime that has murdered over 38,000 palestinians to
9:51 pm
participate. well, this smacks of double standards and hipocrisy. as if all of that isn't bad enough, there's also a ban on the types of sports the russian and belarushian athletes can compete in. imagine that, there is a complete ban on all team sports. like soccer and basketball, other sports with a complete band include track and field and taekwondo. so far, 12 athletes with a russian passport and seven with a belarussian passport have qualified for the paris games. what is another shameful admission is that during these nine months of israeli gudo onslot, well the israeli regime has not been sactioned once, not once by the un over the genocide. thanks to the unv. now extreme settlers were sanctioned by the eu and us, but not the regime or its military commanders for documenting cases of mass killings.
9:52 pm
although the callt ban israel from the olympics is coming from all corners, it is also directed at other sports. well, this was letter by the eu. it demanded the immediate expulsion of the israeli national team, and teams from all european and international competitions until the... in gaza ends, this included an israeli band from the uefa and from fifa as well. well, from music and film to visual arts, theater and education, there isn't a call for israel to be banned to genocide in gaza. well, many of the bands have occurred, but many are still resisting calls for a ban. however, israel, losing its legitimacy is very similar to that of the apartide system in south africa before being. toppled and with that it brings us to the end of this world news bulletin right here press tv, don't go away, i'll be back with tonight's spotlight, so make sure you don't
9:53 pm
