about numbers of casualties and hets or deaths among among these troops. well you're watching press tv's a news review where we look deeper into some of the top stories of the day on this edition of the program, tens of thousands of israelis have flooded the streets again to demand the resignation of prime minister benyamin nunyahu and his faride cabinet for their failure to secure the release of captives held in gaza. protesters gathered in several cities. including rahavat, hod hasuran and televive for a third consecutive night, to denounce netanyahu, they accused the premier of systematically obstructing the gaza ceasefire for his personal and political gains. they refer to uh new demands by nataniahu in negotiations with hamas that have provoked public anger. israelis,
12:40 pm
including uh the families of the captives have held rallies almost a daily basis since the regime launched its war on gaza, meanwhile in tel aviv, scuffles broke out. between protesters and israeli police on tuesday night. the protest followed a general strike called by the israeli labor union against netanyo's handling of the gaza war, workers shot down transport services, banks and schools and what was major blow to the israeli economy. nataniahu stands accused of blocking the gaza trust deal with his insistance on the continued control. over uh the israel created philadelphia and netserim corridors in gaza.
12:41 pm
this is while the hamas resistance woven has demanded a full israeli withdrawal from the entirety of gaza as per any deal. meanwhile, israeli war cabinet member benny gamp said israel should focus on bringing the remaining captives back home from gaza safely. well joining us on this edition of press tv's news review we have academic broadcast. and investigative journalist and researcher mr. david miller joining us from bristol, also we have a spokesman of the international schiller institute from potsdam germany, mr. harley schlanger. gentlemen, welcome to the program. let's start off with mr. miller, i want to get your thoughts on the massive uh demonstrations by israelis against uh the israeli prime minister benim netanyahu, these demonstrations have been going on for quite some time now uh denouncing uh the... way that he has has continued with this war, prosecuted this war and has not been able to
12:42 pm
bring the captives home yet. well, these are ongoing protests, as you say, and of course there's the associated apparent general strike, which however didn't last very long, and of course these are not protests in favor of palestinian rights, these are protests against specifically the government's particular policy on the question of the seas fire. of course, as we know, knows uh netanyahu is putting additional conditions in the way of settlement, because he knows that if there was a settlement in the seas fire that he would be gone as prime minister, and that's that's the difficulty is that he his personal future is invested on keeping the conflict going and that's why there is movement in that regard, but these are let's remember not protests as i said uh to protect palestinian rights, they are the israeli public is almost to a person. on the need for the genocide in gaza, it's just that they want to carry out the genocide in a different
12:43 pm
way. right and mr. schlanger talking about how is obstructed any form of a cease fire agreement, even israel's benny gants is saying that netanyahu is sacrificing the uh the captives uh for the control of the philadelphia corridor. which uh which has also been seen as another way of just prolonging this war for his personal gain, which we all know that um, by the time this genocidal war comes to an end, it will also mean the end of netanyahu's uh political lifeline as well. well, it's worth noting that in the eyes of most of the world, netanyahu is a war criminal, and the purpose the mass killing and destruction in gaza is to eliminate the so-called...
12:44 pm
intention for a cease fire, no intention to allow an independent palestinian state, and much of the blame for this, besides the israeli public accepting it, much of the blame goes to the biden administration and the american government, which continues to make vague threats to withhold aid, but has refused to do anything serious to stop the genocide, so the war criminal netanyahu must be stopped, ultimately it's going to take the united states to... to tell him there'll be no more aid, no more money until he accepts a cease fire and pulls the troops out. right.
12:45 pm
david miller uh about what mr. schlanger was just mentioning, he brought up very interesting point that the uh israeli demons protest are not protesting the genocide actually, but uh, however, uh, this uh, this spots very bad for the far right uh cabinetuh of uh of the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyao, it's as it's putting his disarray and it's affecting the economy and of course how it reflects to the to the global perspective as to what's going on in israel to this genocidal war? well, yes it is affecting the economy, the economy is um its knees, the tourism has ceased, the activities the uh ports uh in occupied palestine are very minimal, now some the port in the south and ilat is filing for bankrupcy, so yeah we
12:46 pm
have very significant problem for the israelis and they right have put them there, but of course... "what they want to do is to as um mr. schlanger said is to eliminate the palestinians and the what they hope to be able to eliminate enough of them that um they can make a difference uh when they are finally forced to the negotiating table or to seasfire so that's why of course we see the incursions into the west bank uh and the attempts will be of course to uh try and confine all the palestinians eventually either push them out to jordan or to to the gaza st so there's a there's a attempt to fully genocide the palestinian people, that's what the radical right wants, that's it's goal, it wants of course to move to a greater israel. the difficulty they're having internally with with the political opposition is that the political opposition wants to go more slowly, they want to uh release the hostages and presumably uh then return to the genocide, but of course the difficulty with
12:47 pm
that is that you once you have uh come to sess fire on the terms which appear to be on the table agreed. by the palestinian resistance many many months ago, including agreed to by the us government, once you have that agreement then that is dramatic defeat for the zionists, they will have been defeated by the palestinians. now that's the problem they've got is that they've we're now a stage where it's either they liquidate the entire palestinian population or they suffer a defeat and defeat of this magnitude would surely lead to the unpicking of the whole uh zionist entity and the the difficulty of it potentially collapsing, that's of course what is played into by the increasing economic problems that they have, it's the the possibility of the collapse of the zionist entity once and for all, which of course every right-minded person in the world looks forward to uh with um with with hope. mr.
12:48 pm
sheinger, would you like to add anything to what mr. miller said, and also in general, give us your perspective on what? the failure this military campaign has been uh since its uh onset um israel has turned into even a bigger international paraya than it already was uh prime minister b said that he wants to destroy hamas which he hasn't to destroy the resistance in gaza which we see is not happened he said that um executing this war would make israel safer that has not happened he said also he claimed that this would make the region uh safer place, which that has not happened either. all this shows is the arrogance of the israeli government and the israeli people, that they believed they could have a military which is oriented toward blitz creeg attacks, they could go into gaza, wipe out hamas, there would be no support for hamas and then they could proceed with the policy of of dismantling the settlements
12:49 pm
there, the the living the houses of the people there and and and start selling the real estate. so there was an arrogant disregard of the dignity of the palestinian people. further more, their military is not meant for these long-term operations, and they're they're totally dependent right now aid from the west, particularly from the united states. also, they're running out of soldiers, fresh soldiers, and and this is part of the problem with the economy, when you take the reserves into fight, you're removing key people from the economy. so this shows that the whole operation of israel was based a set of false assumptions of military superiority and the ability to brutalize and intimidate the palestinian people. the resistance has been remarkable. i think we're going to see on the campuses in the united states and in europe a revival of the protest
12:50 pm
movement from last spring, and this could be very important in shifting the... policies of the united states and and perhaps some of the other governments in europe. all right, thanks lot, gentlemen. um, david miller, academic broadcaster and investigative researcher joining us from bristol and thanks to harley schlanger, spokesman of the international schiller institute from pontsdam, germany. with that brings us to an end here on this edition of the news review, but stick around, there's plenty more to come here on press tv, see you in a bit. students in new york's colombia university of resume their pro- palestine. test says new academic year begins a mid-tight security. dozens of students with many of them covering their faces with palestinian kafia scarves gathered outside the university gates, enchanted slogans against the ongoing israeli
