9:02 pm
in the region against the culture and the sacred places in in al-quds and al-aqsa and and of course in lebanon, we are talking about lebanon, now lebanon is always having this uh this pressure from this uh occupation of and i guess it's about time for everybody in lebanon and in the arab world to stand in confronting such aggressions and such a crime. thank you very much mr. mhsen. saleh: uh, for those of you who are joining us now, we have received devastating news that nine people have been killed, and thousands more injured, to be precise, nearly 3,00 people have been injured after the explosion of their pejor devices. now this is considered cyber attack by the israeli regime. and of
9:03 pm
course uh the reactions have been pouring in from different international organizations from the un, from the eu and of course from the lebanon, the lebanese allies, we have had the iranian foreign minister talking to his labanese counterpart about this devastating news offering assistance. and now to discuss that further we're joined by mr. mazen gomsia who is a palestinian scientist and author joining us from bethlehem. mr. glomsia, what is your take on this situation, how would you analyze this kind of large scale attack that is definitely a breach of all kinds of convent. international conventions and
9:04 pm
international law attacking pajor devices, we do know that lot of the people who have been injured were ordinary civilians and now the hospitals in beirot are overwhelmed with the number of injuries. um, how do you analyze the situation? well, the scenes are horrific, condolences to those past. and our wishes for recovery for those who are injured, many have lost hands and have debilitating injuries, it's truly horrific action, act of terrorism a large scale, and that's on the only way we can describe it is an act of terrorism from a state that from its founding is known for state terrorism, from its massacres, 33 of massacre. just in four months in 1948, just
9:05 pm
before it was founded as a regime, as a state, to the present massacres in gaza, massacre after massacre, even today there was another massacre in gaza of civilians, so it's a terrorist regime, and we are not very surprised by terrorism coming from this regime. "my thoughts are that it uh, it is not going to help israel, if anything it will make it much, much harder for israel to a survive in this world. so mr. were you, what was your initial reaction to this news? is this something that would surprise you? well, i mean, nobody really knew that this technology exists." so penetrating pages and
9:06 pm
making them explode, most people didn't know that such a technology exists, so israel certainly surprised us by its technology, but that is not something, in wars, you always have a day for you, a day against you, a surprise here, a surprise there, we we saw, for example, recently the israels were surprised, by the technology that the yemen had to deliver a missiles weighing 17 tons to the middle of the country, doing lot of damage to intelligence headquarters, to a train station, etc. this was a surprise to the israelis in terms of the technology available for yemen, to have rocket flown 2040 kilometers ' without being detected,
9:07 pm
without being intercepted, despite the best technologies available for interceptions, so what i'm saying is, as an analyst, i'm not of being emotional... about it, as an analyst, you expect in war surprises here and there, and what you expect also is that the opposing force would also develop technologies and will develop resources, that's expected in conflicts such as this one, what is not expected is the level of depravity of the zinus, mean as i said, while the yemen is... examples try to block ships that are supplying israel, israel is willing to kill whole neighborhoods, destroy whole neighborhoods or in this case cause meme and kill people, mean i saw video people who are just simply shopping and they were targeted,
9:08 pm
so this this shows the level of thepravity of the zinest regime and intentionally. destroying, killing people intentionally, people not engaged in combat or anything else, so we will have to wait and see the response of course that comes to this, but when you have an israel military that has no compunction about bowing children, schools, hospitals, universities, roads, water infrastructure, even un convoys carrying food, even killing 170 un aid workers, intentionally, by the way, killing them, killing over 200 journalists more than any of the other wars combined, even in the last 50 years, what we see here is level of depravity
9:09 pm
that's beyond the description, and that's that we are used now to seeing this and we are ' we say, that's why i say, if anything, this will accelerate the demise of a regime built on violence built on destruction. so uh, mr. gumsia, joseph burell has expressed concern about a spillover, and we've talked to uh, other political analysts describing the situation as uh, maybe israel paving the way for an all-out. war against lebanon, which of these is more your concern? well, regarding the international community and its reactions to these things and to what israel is committing, i say we need to watch
9:10 pm
actions, not words, levels of concern and and worrying about the regional war and worrying about the humanitarian. what humanitarian situation in the gaza strip, people starving to death and people not having medicines and not being treated for injuries, all these words of concern and assurances or whatever you want to call them, don't mean anything, because now the people in our region, in the arab and muslim world, and i say also even people of... around the world in the western countries have now gotten used to the nonsense of western politicians and western leaders and western media which talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk so we need actions, we need an arms embargo against
9:11 pm
israel, we need boycot the best sanctions just like we did with south africa, we need to watch for actions, not, for these kinds of word words and concerns and so forth, and and ultimately this is the final test of international law and order, as it might be considered there was any such thing, i don't believe there ever was, after 1945 we have to remember there was genocides like the killing of people in iraq in vietnam etc. millions of... people have suffered, it seemed international order was created selectively to be applied only to protect certain white people, if you want, and not others, even in europe, it was not implemented in the case of
9:12 pm
some european populations, as we saw in the genocides in bosnia and other places, so i think international order... has been tested for the past whatever since 1945, 80 years almost, but i think it's now this is the final test. "and if the international system fails it, i think we have to forget about international order and international law, and we have to start talking about might makes right, and everybody is going to be arming, and we already see part of this happening, and i think it's it's ridiculous to allow it to continue to happen like this, there may be nuclear war even." "and we will all be dead in that, and nobody will be a winner. thank you very much, mr. mazen
9:13 pm
kimsia, palestinian scientist and author joining us from bethland, please stand by, our correspondent mariam soleh has arrived in one of the hospitals that is providing assistance to those who have been injured by these pagers that have detonated. mariam, if you could please tell us where exactly your station." and give us an update on the situation there, mariam, well it seems that we cannot connect to mariam saleh our correspondent, so uh back to miss mr. komsia, are you expecting any kind of serious measures being taken by the un
9:14 pm
security council? no, the un security council was created with such a system with the us vto power, and we know that the us foreign policy is dictated in tel aviv, even against american interests, so the un security council cannot. produce any measures that produce justice, which is part of what i was talking about is that the system, global system of of remedies that was created after the second world war, after the horrors of the second world war, the system was created, it has failed over and over again, as i said in areas like yemen, like libya, like iraq, like afghanistan, like vietnam and cambodia and other places and this failure, a repeated
9:15 pm
failure has shown that the system only works to benefit countries like the united states and england, etc., it is not structured to serve the countries like in the global south as we say, or countries that are not part of the system, the... was created in 1945 by the winners of the second world war, if they want to save the system, those winners of the second world war, then they need to change its structure, allow democracy in the system, and start applying law equally to all countries, equally to all countries, and that means that country like israel cannot be above the law, above international law '. this is why i say this might be the final test, because it's associated with the
9:16 pm
genocide and it's associated with the risk of regional war and the global war that will destroy humanity, so i think the west needs to wake up to the danger, and if an event like this one, where thousands are injured and many are killed by a cyber attack from this rogue state a sover. country of lebanon uh is left to go unpunished, unpunished. okay, mr. garcia, i'm sorry to cut you off, we have our correspondent mariam with us and the connection is very weak, so uh let's get her update before we lose her again. mariam, tell us exactly where you're stationed, give us an update on the situation of hospitals in beirot. well, kisho, this is one of the very few hospitals that we were. actually allowed to stand um and film, however uh they told us we are not allowed to interview any of the
9:17 pm
families of the wounded or to film inside the hospital, we know that here at least 60 people uh were brought to hospital uh you have in addition to those who were actually holding the pager they have sustained severe wounds however uh you have the others that were surrounding them whether a friend or relative member of their family or perhaps even when they are outside those who are in uh surrounding them or close by them, they had also sustained injuries, some of them had slight injuries, they have left the hospital, but you still have people inside with severe... injuries now some are also of course going to be taken to different hospitals depending on their case, most of the injuries we know are either in the face or in the hand, some are in the waist um as well uh and the number of murders has so far not increased, we don't know of more than nine people who have been murdered and killed as a result of the detonation of pagers in
9:18 pm
this um what seems to be a cyber terrorist uh um collective uh perhaps crime that we are looking at here today uh we know also uh from the ministries involved that tomorrow uh the schools will be closed uh several sectors will also be closed there's a lot of talk that you have - hospital a doctors and nurses coming from hospitals in the north towards beirot and the bacah in order to assist uh in this situation uh we learn from the minister of health saying that the most of the hospitals have been trained and they have been ready. of four worst case scenarios in case a war broke out and so that also assisted in the fact that the hospitals were ready whether psychologically or even within their staff uh to make sure that they get to their hosp all the the staff that even were in their houses came to assist in this manner
9:19 pm
you have lot of injuries in south makeshift hospital that were to provide for at least injuries that are slight injuries that perhaps do not need to be hospitalized, but we know that some people even in areas that are further away were taken towards sin for the severe cases, they were dispersed, actually seems the injuries are dispersed and all over the hospitals all across the country, not only for example in the the area or the tire area on n since there is like you said that the hospitals since there is like you said that the hospitals overwhelmed and so many of the cases were taken to hospitals further away towards saiden uh now like i said there are many uh medical uh medical staff are coming from other areas as well to assist in these hospitals especially in the public hospitals that we have uh in beirot and across the country uh where they can provide assistance like i said tomorrow uh many ministries said that especially uh
9:20 pm
schools and universities uh will be closed tomorrow in light of the current circumstances what see to be emergency circumstances, on another note, we also know that two murders, two people were killed in the israeli shelling on in south lebanon, excuse me, and that is we can see that the israeli aggressions on south lebanon continue, however when it comes to hizballah we have not received any new statement concerning this attack or concerning any other operations um in south lebanon, we know from the israeli media uh uh saying that uh the channel 14 for example have said that very soon there will be a statement from the israeli cabinet saying that the primary front will be declared in that lebanon will be declared as a primary front after ghazza that they will be shifting all the weight of weight and their forces from ghazza into
9:21 pm
lebanon and so what that will uh entil is still not clear whether the israelis will be only awaiting to see what type of a retaliation hazbillah will have or uh whether uh there will be a direct attack and aggression by the israelis which will be a full scale uh reaching all the areas in south lebanon perhaps uh cutting off roads as they had in done in 2006 perhaps even shelling the capital beirot is still something that we need to see since we heard some statements from the israeli officials saying that the lebanese government bears full responsibility for the launching of rockets from lebanon into the israeli regime, whether they will consider this a direct threat, whether this is a direct threat against for example governmental institutions or that anything in lebanon is under the uh potential of being targeted by the israeli shelling, this is possible since they have done this already in gaza, targeting every single area, all
9:22 pm
hospitals or schools, universities, governmental institutions, even united nations um uh institutions and centers and so that could probably be the type of scenario that the israelies have put forth here. now here in lebanon, of course there is full solidarity from all fronts, all the factions, even those who are probably not supportive of the stance of resistance and support in its confrontational front with the the israelis in support of the palestinian resistance, they have all showed their solidarity, they have said they will stand by the lebanese resistance and the people, um of the resistance saying those who are supportive of the resistance of course specifically the southern suburbs of beirut, south lebanon and the becca, but of course they have supporters the resistance all over the country and we can see that now the number of people donating broad, the number of members of parliament that are either independent or from different factions that have come to the hospitals to visit the wounded to show
9:23 pm
solidarity with the people and the resistance. we've heard also from the speaker the parliament once again today stressing that the international community needs to stop, as he said this criminal act, which he considered not only a an aggression, he considered this very... blatant war crime and the crime against humanity here in lebanon, it is a collective punishment or collective terrorism uh basically against the people of lebanon and that israel will be punished, he stressed the world needs to stop uh this um this criminal regime, or else it's going to lead to escalation of the entire region, we heard also from american. officials saying that they are calling for self-restraint uh as we heard from the pentagon of course what that is defined, it's not clear what the definition of self-restraint is, if they have
9:24 pm
been calling on the israelies for self-restraint and this happens then uh of course all the cards have been shuffled here gishu, we can see that definitely we are looking a new phase, hezbullah has been adamant on punishing the israelis, they have been quite creative in how they have retaliated in the past keeping to uh boundaries that they have put forth in the beginning of the confrontation, launching their attacks only on military uh uh targets um and only in specific geographic areas uh we don't know whether hizbillah will take things a step further uh by launching uh rockets or drones towards areas that are further away or only keeping to military uh also targets but very sensitive and critical military um uh targets as we saw for example they had previously showed footage of the fact that they have very clear intelligence of all the very critical and lively military
9:25 pm
and scientific and nuclear sites in uh in haifa for example also in naharaya also in safad and in the golan heights where they will go for a full uh uh retaliation which is perhaps similar to what we saw instead of launching attacks only on 11 uh military basis they might be launching attacks. on every single base all the way from the border with lebanon, perhaps near the vicinity of the center of the israeli regime uh in uh tel aviv and yafa, so it is still not clear what might happen, what type of reaction we might see when you listen to the statements coming out for example from the palestinian uh resistance factions uh their statements of solidarity, their statement of denouncing all these uh this this aggression specifically, we also have statements coming out uh from states, we have a statement coming out from the uh iraqi government, we know there's a statement come that came out from the iraqi resistance as well, the islamic resistance in
9:26 pm
iraq has trust that they will stand by lebanon and its resistance and they will put all their capabilities um within that context of supporting uh the resistance and the people of lebanon. we also have the announcements coming out from lot of officials um whether uh arab or or european officials, of course, uh, we still need to see what type of action there can be, instead of only denouncements. now there is of course the potential that there might be a full-scale war in lebanon, that had been the course uh, the the uh, if we may say the the the proportionality or the probability of war has increased very heavily in the last uh few days um or weeks especially against lebanon, the israeli prime minister had before not always uh mentioned lebanon much um we saw in his uh first in his uh press conference for
9:27 pm
example focusing lot on ghazza focusing lot on the philadelphia corridor and the west bank uh but he did not focus much on lebanon when asked about lebanon he said that we were trying we uh will return the settlers uh to the gilil region to the north and so on so forth but now it seems that they have shifted. their focus and their concentration uh towards uh south lebanon saying that they cannot allow for the situation to be as such, we know that there was some opposition, but i think that now what we're looking at is the fact that there is unity among that cabinet uh, the israeli cabinet that they want to go for war on lebanon, now that will be uh something that experts believe uh will be huge miscalculation, the israelis have tried invasions, they have tried uh shelling, they have tried so many... wars, but if we go back to the their so-called plan of launching a ground invasion that perhaps not only begins goes through south lebanon, but it might also
9:28 pm
go from the goal on heights towards syria. territories that enter um into lebanon from the syrian territories as the israelis have claimed uh that too, i believe the resistance is probably ready for, they have said that they are ready to defend lebanon, we know hisbullah has very strong presence inside syria as well as all across the border in south lebanon and even in the areas where of course they're closer to to the golan heights from lebanese territory than they are from uh syria and so they are capable of attacking the golan heights, there's also the other probability that hazbullah has mentioned in the past that they are ready to put boots on the ground in the galileo region that well of course although this was kept for later has said on and on that this is not their main battle that their main front is only in support of the resistance and ghazaz in support of the palestinian people they will not allow the israelis to be presumptuous and take all their might into ghazza and
9:29 pm
basically um... icate all the people of hazza, as we saw there's a genocidal war going on in that area. hisbullah made sure that they will weaken, they will force this war of attrition on the israelis and that seems to be the reason why the israelis have launched this attack today. hazbullah has been successful and we can see that the hazel has been successful enforcing this war of attrition, destroying tanks, targeting military personnel all across the border, targeting areas that are perhaps. considered secretive or cohort by the israeli military and the israeli intelligence and that was considered very heavy blow for the israelis. the israelis of course continue to be discrete and not very specify clearly how weaken they have become as a result of hazballah's operations uh but if the israelies do decide to come and take that risk uh and venture into a new war in lebanon uh that means that they are in a state of really um of a of huge failure with they
9:30 pm
believe can be corrected uh through a ground invasion perhaps through a uh or perhaps a full-scale war continuous shelling on lebanon, of course the israelis do have that superiority when it comes to the shelling as we've seen for example uh in ghazza and we have seen previously in lebanon, the fact that they have this technology, they can assassinate uh even members of hisbollah that are not uh in the confrontation zone that are not under next to their launchers or fighting at this very moment. however, when it comes to ground invasions, uh, this will be a test for the israeli military, in light of their so-called bragging that they have ameliorated their forces, especially when it comes to the ground forces, but when analyst look at this issue, they believe that it would be major um issue for hisballah to have the israelis attempt a new ground invasion, this...
