spinwatch. our guest contributor today is batool sabeiti. batol is human rights activist and political analyst with a special interest in the middle eastern foreign policy and she blogs at stances to salvation. well... welcome to the show, david, did you think a year ago that the economy of the settler colony would would be showing sort signs of strain? i don't think any of us imagined when we first saw the signs of the uh breakout from gaza of the palestinan resistance forces what would ensue uh and of course the fact that the economy of the uh zist entity is feeling the strain is very instructive of course it's it's a multiple uh group of factors which have caused this, it's not just the... the of the conflict and the diversion of personnel into fighting, it's also been that huge numbers of people have left, large numbers of of settleers have to had to remove themselves from the north and indeed around gaza, so you see the footage of the of the tomatoes and greenhouses and kabutsim beside gaza, rotting on the vines

because there's no one to pick them, there's no one to take them to market, because the whole thing is falling to part to bits, so that that is that's the problem that the economy is falling to bits. and of course we didn't anticipate that year ago, no we did, i'm sure we didn't, but butol, what do you make of the uh contraction in the economy of the settler colony? stability is the most important factor in maintaining a strong economy. without stability, the burdens and costs increase due to lack of insurance, and there's less of incentive for investments to take place in the long-term, as a result of the fear of the outbreak of war expansion. post october the 7th, there has been no trust, nor credibility in the entity, it's seen essentially as a high security risk, and there's also that element of a bad reputation globally as well, it's now become a parier entity. the global boycot movement has only intensified, we've seen student encampments calling for their universities to divest, so

companies will need to think about how maintaining ties with the entity may end up landing them on the boycott list, and yakov shanin, who's an israeli economist, said that the total cost of the war. could actually amount to $120 billion dollars, that's 20% of the country's gdp, this was several months ago, so the status quo post october the se we're seeing airlines cancelling flights, hotels half empty, businesses failing, um, the israeli business information company, co-face bdi even reported that some 46,000 businesses have closed since the start of the war, that amounts to 75% of them being small businesses, so it's really taking a toll on the lives of the israeli settlers. well david, i mean the the bankrupcy of of alelet seems to be a real indication doesn't it of the designist economy's weakness, well i mean the the stunning success of the the blockade by arala so that 85% of the uh the trades

stopped they've declared bankrupcy, nothing nothing is happening there, and that that is a real block on the ability of them to to to supply themselves as well as uh on the question of their their economy and it's an indication that actually there's not really very much more that needs to be done before the whole economy collapses, you've only got two major ports in the north and of course they are now of course coming under attack in particular from from uh but also from indeed even the islamic resistance in iraq indeed indeed well how effective would you say that ans the ans blocade? on the red sea is actually being right? the region rejects the occupation entity as a planted foreign occupier. the entity is essentially contained and can now only deal with egypt and jordan through its lands or it can deal through its ports. due to the yemeni naval attacks, 85%

of eats port in the south has become dysfunctional, so it's effectively now bankrupt. and now what we're seeing is the port of hyifa which is in the mediterranean sea is now also coming under threat, this, former bustling port, which is major hub of israeli import export, where massive containerships would stop, the times of israel has actually stated that this port has become still during this war, so there really is this element of instability and panic, well david, mean the the occupation forces - air of complete military superiority is is sort of evaporated hasn't it then? well it has and of course that is evaporated. 'on a kind of slowburn to some extent by the fact that year later they still haven't uh reached their their objective alleged objective of defeating what they call hamas, which of course in reality is six or seven different uh palestinian armed groups, but also happened in in decisive moments where uh

there's been footage has appeared from within gaza of large numbers of casualties, the famous footage of the the the naval special unit of the the so-called occupation forces'. uh someone being captured and dragged through the tunnels by a hamas fighter in flip flops and that's an indication of the of the that as well, but most importantly i think has been the the the footage that has been of ' of palestinian fighters coming out up out of fox holes and running sometimes in trainers, sometimes in flip flops, to to markaver tanks and planting bombs on them, and the the the elimination of huge numbers of tanks has been an indication that actually the traditional military technology which they have isn't working to destroy a gorilla army which has lived all the way through this and continues to fight, yes absolutely, well petrol um what do you make of of current and indeed former leading figures? in the zionist occupation forces as well as mosad personnel seemingly conceding that hamas cannot be defeated. all

right, so these leading figures, they recognize the real components present within the resistance that is effectively making them strong. um, the hazdan resistance forces have deep faith in their goals, they enjoy very high moral. they've proven that they're ready for sacrifice. they're filled with anger that's resulting from this occupation and this injustice. and so what we're seeing in gazza is really gorilla warfare against invaders with light arms and we're seeing them come at zero distance from their enemy, so they have really demonstrated the ability to adapt in the most difficult circumstances. well, our next report addresses the changing attitudes towards designist entity and the growing extremism in israel's society. zionism faces defeat in every sphere, the most visible. intangible change in the west has been the erosion of support for the declining entity. this has manifested first

of all in a significant polarization. the mass of the global public has become more pro- palestinian and more vocal about it, but equally, there is a small counter tendency of zinists to become even more extreme in their glorification of the killing of women and children. maybe kill a girl she was 12 but look. for baby. jews in israel have become increasingly genocidal, with only 19% even willing to say that the zionist genocide has gone too far. in gaza and the west bank, support for hamas has increased, while the palestinian authority has become even less popular. public opinion in the us and uk and the world has shifted towards the palestinians. we can see the shift also in the way in which the... ability of key zionist arguments has collapsed. the so-called right of israel to self-defense has

been pummeled, especially by figures like the un raporteur francesca albanesi. the idea that israel has a right to exist or that it should exist has also come under attack. a uk opinion poll recently showed that the striking 54% of 18 to 24-year-olds agreed with the statement that quote "the state of israel" could not exist, just 21% disagreed. it is remarkable to know that the power of the main weapon of choice used by the zionist is dissipating. the charge of antisemitism has less force and is now openly mocked. it's clear that the zionists are attempting to minimize the effects of the genocide by trying to undermine official palestinian figures for death and injuries. it is also routinely suggested that the oc for minimizing their own casualty numbers. one of the key things that is now different is that

joining in, zinanism is more reviled now than it has ever been, its end cannot come soon enough. david, i mean, global public opinion is is moved dramatically, hasn't it against israel now, i mean, there's no way back for them now is there, well, global public opinion has moved uh quite significantly, i mean it was always case that there was a big reservoir of sympathy for the palestinians especially in the global south, but that has become more obvious, it's more obvious in the uk and the us and european countries. as well, the public opinions moved towards the palestinians i mean moved quite far in some respects and that's quite quite a dramatic thing. is is there any way back? no, i don't think there is, we cannot unsee what we've seen, and people no longer believe uh, as they used to do, that uh, israel has a right to exist, uh, it's able, it should defend itself when it's actually an occupation of

other people's country and indeed engaged in genocide, so the way in which public opinion is moved is is is not just... the transient thing, i think, it's the it's the beginning the end, and we see incrementally that's starting to have effects at the policy level with small signs in the international criminal court for example, the un, that there are there are moves being taken, and that will be that will increase, i think. mean, this down to the fearless reporting, i think, isn't it of of garsen journalists on on the ground, i think, which is brought the reality to the to the to the people around the world, to the extent that people can see that, but i think that's even the case that when they consume a diet of uh of almost undelated propaganda in the mainstream media people still see the horror because it still pushes through and of course on social media even though social media companies have all these policies to stop pro palestiny messages overwhelmingly the messages and social media pro palestine because people are propalestine absolutely but tell mean given what's happened over the last year what's your

assessment of the prospects for normalizing relations between israel and the arab states? right, so many arab countries were brought into the abraham accords, um, despite this, the nations, the masses, the people of those normalizing arab states themselves, never really normalized or recognized the occupation entity, um, the resistance access during this war has imposed its strength and it spread its high morality, garnering effectively the mass support from arab nations to the point where you know the sectarian sedition that has been planted by america. to split the muslim ummah on sectarian lines, reinforcing the whole sunni shia divide, to counter the islamic republic of iran. this sedition plot to deter the muslim ummah from uniting on fighting the common enemy and that was you know aided through the creation of daesh for example to topple assyria, all of those plots have failed and this war has reunited the masses

who are now seeing the resistance axis walking the talk whilst the arab normalizes. embarrassed and ultimately lowering their heads in shame. david, i mean, whatever credibility the occupation forces previously had, i mean it's it's been totally compromised hasn't in in the last year the way they've behaved, well the way they behaved has been, i think extraordinary, even for critics of zionism, the the the way in which they have lied and lied and lied, and people now say that as kind of catch phrase, they lie and they lie and they lie, has been uh staggering, surprising to many. and and it's only become revealed and certainly the mainstream media tried to keep it out of of focus, it's only become revealed gradually, there were people writing about this very early on in in october, but but it didn't get beyond the alternative media until much much later, but now everybody sees that these were lies, but the the other element of this when you say behavior, it's not just the lies, it's the it's the glorying uh, mean it says

in the film there, the quivering excitement the horror which they are inflicting and... and the fact that western supporters of zianism have seemed to go along with that and seemed to openly praise the killing of women, children, and all sorts of atrocities, unforgivable actually, but but all um, can you explain what the axis of resistance actually is, and and how it's transformed in the past year? yeah, so the access of resistance consists of countries that have been under the hegem of the west, as a result, um, a strong group within those countries have formed. a systematic reaction against the western occupations with the aim of ultimately liberating their land and maintaining that status quo post liberation due to the threat of the reemergence of that occupation if they put down their arms, so when we say ghazah or the west bank or lebanon, the resistance was formed due to the israeli occupation. lebanon kicked them out

in 2000, but they came back in the ground invaded in 2006. when you say iraq, the resistance was formed against the american occupation. then of course as we know america unleashed isis, when you say yemen, we're talking about western a western backed saudi blockade for all of these years. the syrian government has always believed in the vision of a of liberated region from western hagemany, and of course you have the iranian islamic revolution that was an overthrow of the western backed shah, and the islamic republic's default is supporting the oppressed wherever they are. ultimately, in this war there has been a turning point in the resistance access in terms. the experience that it has gained due to that direct confrontation, you know, it's been under the real test of reality, and this past year is ultimately an expression of live maneuvering, there was... resistance has better understood its weak points, likewise the israeli occupation entities weak points, it has expanded logistically, its methods of targeting, but most important to all of this

is the coordination has developed. before it wasn't very clear what the unity of the fronts meant. now practically it is clear what that means and what acting as a supporting front also means, so the resistance is accumulating and strengthening itself with many points of concentration, and we're seeing that the island republic. of iran has actually now quite becoming a superpower in the region. david, how would you say russia's role has has changed over the last 12 months? i think what you can see with the the role of russia is that russia has increasingly um become frustrated with the lack of international action and has incrementally moved towards uh supporting the palestinians more than than they had before. there's no white charges coming over the hill here. but we do see that the russians are actually engaged militarily in in the region, the russians are are flying uh flights up and down the syrian coast to stop uh israeli jets

coming into bomb damascus uh the russians have uh their own lookout posts in syria on the border with the with the illegally occupied goan heights now those are those are russian military overseeing what they israelies are doing in the golan heights and there's an indication there that i think that the russians are getting a bit frustrated. lack of pace of any international change and they they may well be taking a more active role and that that i think would pause some the warmers for thought indeed although they are still demonized aren't they russia in the in the western media well of course mean it's the it's the after the the uh the the coverage of of israel and palestine russia is the is the main betnoire of the western media isn't it of course it's said that they interve in western elections etc but of course well "the people who interven the most in elections are the israelies, indeed. well, but to all, i mean, we're obviously in a fast moving situation, but what would your message be to those who think the zinanish regime

can't be defeated? this past year has shown how the occupation entity has turned from once invincible army to now bewildered army. the entity has gone from once being confident to now being completely lost. this image of superiority that the entity has been portraying has completely disappeared. it also didn't occur for a split second that the palestinians could carry out such a magnitude of attack on october as a result of the security and intelligence failure that the entity prides itself in, and this penetration that we saw on october is actually the biggest threat for the entity, because the settlers now do not feel protected anymore, so in this past year it's already been proven that the israeli occupation entity for one whole year couldn't pinpoint its goals and achieve them, so if you cannot... point your goals and achieve them, then you're ultimately unstable failure, and if we listen to what the retired israeli major general yitack break has been stated, he's repeatedly

warned that the entity could face collapse within the next year, and in actual fact cease to exist within two years if this war continues in the way that it is, and so the entity, as we know it, it's american colonialism enforced onto the region. it is a military base that was turned into a country in 1948. and when ultimately a military base fails, it loses its functional role, israel has gone from protecting western interests, that's its functional role, to now needing protection from the whole west. once this project begins to retardiate, the global capitalist empire will start looking for substitutes, because this entity itself has now become a harm and a liability to the interests of the ones who created it, so from within the american deep state, we're increasingly hearing that - not in the interests of israel to continue this war and what is not in the interests of the israeli occupation entity is also not an interest for the west, so the weakness of israel is
