keen on the us having the most lavish embassy building in the u.k. so they are attempting to outshine them it's iran the islamic republic has released blueprints for design of the new iranian embassy which is set to be located in central london now the building which would cost up to one hundred fifty eight million dollars includes an unconventional design with a contemporary art gallery to highlight the cultural appeal of iran now rhetoric between the u.s. and iran has reached a fever pitch in recent months and days so that could explain the bigger more extravagant embassy design from the iranians trying to one up the americans even with a contemporary art gallery they may not be able to compete with the most but i guess that just depends on your tastes so both iran and the u.s. are going to be joint tool time winners tonight for engaging in a childish and expensive battle over the bigger cooler embassy. now meanwhile a battle of bus ads is taking place in some major cities across america public
11:33 pm
transportation is the latest site of a religious battle over islam now muslim group put out an ad saying quote the way of life of adam noah abraham moses jesus and muhammad islam got questions got answers another group sponsored the campaign muslims for peace love for all hatred for now in response the group stop islamization of america put out ads reading this thought while on your head is your family or community threatening you leaving islam got questions get answers now muslim rights groups have called the ads anti islamic and some cities have rejected them altogether but here now to talk about them is pamela geller from stop islamization of america and author of the book the post american presidency also joining us from our l.a. studio is dr with same siad the national spokesperson for the madea muslim community now i want to start with you know your critics are saying that these ads
11:34 pm
are to incite fear about islam are islamophobia what are you trying to achieve with these ads what do you say to these critics. well first i'd like to say that as a way stop islamization of america is an organization dedicated to freedom of speech religious liberty and individual rights these were not in response to the bus ads that you referred to they were not they were response to a need there are people there are muslims that want to leave islam it's not encouraging them to leave islam mind you but come from devout households and original islam apostasy leaving islamist punishable by death one thing that i want to i want to get what i need to respond to that was the same how do you respond to that is leaving islam punishable by death. a member of the with human. community we believe. we are muslims who believe in ms obama and with god as the promised
11:35 pm
messiah. our interpretation of the over one hundred twenty one year effort since the founding of our community has been too. slow for the freedom of religion and there is no such thing as punishment to. pamela what is there are there are some clerics there are some clerics who propose this as being teaching which according to their interpretation is a part of islam but this is not a part of islam god who created all of us how could he possibly send revolution which says go and kill some of my people. now that i am not you don't you think that basically. killing is condemned as a stand in the koran as other muslim leaders have said and that there is no penalty for leaving islam by. well his sect is a small portion of the worldwide global population muslim population the fact
11:36 pm
wow against the posse was issued by the supreme council on the most esteemed leading university in cairo alice are you can see the fact whites are listed online i wish that all of the muslims the devout muslims felt as dr saeed did he is not who the people that grow up in that household does not have that problem the ad is not directed at muslims it's like saying if i ran an ad for let's say spouse abuse wife beating i'm not saying that all husbands beat their wives this is directed to girls in trouble and i'm going to tell you something i've reached a number of people and frankly anybody that finds these ads offensive is in support of the death penalty the shari'a for conversion added islam and frankly people need to evaluate that what is wrong with these ads it just says are you in trouble and it provides a gateway to hell. girls and if i've saved one life then it's worth all this flak but i don't believe that muslims in america are against religious liberty i think
11:37 pm
they come to america to get away from the shari'a they come to america for religious liberty wasn't it wasn't even for defensive i think islamic supremacists like the coconspirator care. if they find it offensive because they are islamic supremacists but they don't represent muslims in america no way was the name why are these out offensive as pamela said she is providing a service here. i think the statement is that if a person wants to live islam he should be just as free to leave islam as a person who wishes to accept islam i think the ads that we have running you know and i have this think you showed it this is our goal we want to emphasize that muslims must in the united states of america stand up and speak out and see that the islam they believe in is islam which teaches peace the essence of it and i think these kinds of ads are being you know going on the buses in some sense the
11:38 pm
muslims have been asleep at the helm you know our religion has been hijacked by people and they see that they're the defenders of the fairies and they're killing christians and jews and they think this is something which islamic and they are using islam to legitimize something that is totally understand it but it is our duty as muslims this is what we are doing we are going across the country and you know it's not the bus ads one hundred buses is anybody can purchase thousands of members of our community are going door to door in this year our goal is that six million americans should receive this message that islam stands for peace and you know they can call this one eight hundred why islam number are all muslims what it was and so you don't have any problem with families but. i think this is a great country it gives us the freedom for pamela to say what she wants to say and for the muslims to be able to say what they need to say and wish to say and i invite all muslims in the united states they should stand up and they should go
11:39 pm
around the country and tell their neighbors islam means peace and they shouldn't fear of muslims and i say some part of their own life there are a lot of him on our program and i am i want to respond to what he thought i also want you to respond to i think what i brought up i called on let me just ask you that's what the message is fully supporting your freedom of speech to have these ads meanwhile one hundred twenty five religious leaders of various faiths and. area signed a statement that denounced your ads as islamophobia some cities have banned them so clearly some people are offended and say this promotes anti islam sentiment in the united states which is a problem how do they not. well first of all it goes to show you just a kind of trouble the muslim girls or the or men for that matter who want to leave are in if i'm getting this kind of flak by providing a safe way for people that have been threatened by death by their family or their community i don't see the rights anila i don't think what are they getting are they
11:40 pm
threatened. view of islam haven't read about stereotypes not are inaccurate how al is it how personal and how is it morning a view of islam when he says leaving islam need help go to refuge from the slums outcome pamela promoting anything except except tell for wait a minute wait let me respond except for help that's all it is i don't find jews for jesus offensive even though the idea it may be offensive to jewish people it's ridiculous and this gentleman sect of islam was established in eight hundred ninety nine his this particular sect is persecuted in indonesia brutally and persecuted in iran. brutally it does not represent the one point five billion muslims worldwide and i want to tell you that the only family media outlet that actually went to speak to muslims who are trying to leave islam in america the washington times found to miss every single instance
11:41 pm
a couple of teachers in dearborn said this is very good people are terrified to talk about it they're really scared ok lanolin you shouldn't be scared or american already loved one and you're seeing the sound of it a mother on your head mean what does fatwa on your head mean. a fart's why is the ruling by an islamic cleric on matters regarding religion in this particular case it's apostasy there was a fatwa issued from our los our university against the past see that apostasy is punishable by death when risk of barry's mosque was spying on her and told her parents that he should straighten her out or else how far they are you know threatened to kill her if she had this jesus in our heart she had to run away she had nowhere to go when nouri al maliki was living too western a life and she tried to get away her father ran her over and if that wasn't enough he backs up the car and he ran over again and again and now these girls deserve a place to go these girls' lives are just as important as the feelings of the
11:42 pm
islamic supremacists that you are citing and i say to you equal rights for all equal justice for all equally all right we're going to all right now i'm going to leave and you are going to live in atlanta channel i want to thank both of you for telling us more on what is that i always have an add in these some of these cities across the united states now we have one more segment ahead on the show the family research council jumps into the debate over don't ask don't tell tonight i'm unplugged over a few comments made by some of their guests on the issue and is the u.s. headed for a lost decade now it's a question being asked in all speak with the business insiders gregory white on that when we come back.
11:43 pm
right. you vote for bush. always by one vote. so the people that are going to be validating this machine can stand there all day long and vote for somebody and it will be right every time but the guy can walk up here and if he hits the right button. he can flip the vote that he.
11:44 pm
writes. from. well alona may be out but tonight we have lauren unplugged it appears congress is inching closer to repealing don't ask don't tell now president obama has asked for the repeal saying it's time to allow gays to openly serve in the military he's gotten more support than you would think on that not surprisingly this news has the right wing up in arms though they say the white house is just advancing a radical social agenda while the family research council is raising the stakes in
11:45 pm
the fight tony perkins head of family research council hosted a ninety eight minute webcast on the issue last month and his guests had some outrageous comments and statements now one was a doctor identified as a former army physician who is skewed rhetoric with a comment about gays and hiv take a listen. individual who is a practicing homosexuals there's no question that there is a significant medical groups that have an increased risk of hiv the increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases in the have an increased risk of psychological disorders. so he's saying of gays are allowed to serve in the military then the hiv rates and psychological disorders will increase i don't really think that with the number of soldiers forced to leave the army soley because of a mental disorder and it was up sixty four percent from two thousand and five to two thousand and nine that psychological disorders are
11:46 pm
a gay straight issue now the webcast also included iran contra all of figure all over north now he is also against don't ask don't tell and he's worried a policy change will hurt recruitment as to what he had to say. see these kids because of their whole school or christian education who created a rule if you're going to take out a car good will when. we're all going to have those youngsters are not going to come to the military we're going to hold but it will sections who most of the greatest american. will recruit to stay north logic care military recruitment will go down because parents don't want their children around gay people and because gay people will serve in the military porn will be watched because i'm really sure that straight guys in the military never watch porn but here's the fact the family research council and tony perkins
11:47 pm
never mentioned through two thousand nine more than thirteen thousand people have been discharged for violating don't ask don't tell as a nation involved in two wars may be time we start to look at don't ask don't tell from an analytical point of view does this policy help or hurt our military period end of story. now the saga over wiki leaks continues first of all the whistle blowing web site and its mysterious founder julian assange and spy or this rap video. that's strictly for keep in mind. i didn't want. to play to your grief when we. did you see one. now in a more serious note this weekend also saw a number of u.s.
11:48 pm
government officials condemning weiqi leaks for publishing those thousands of classified u.s. military reports about afghanistan now adding fuel to the fire as wiki leaks decision to upload a mysterious encrypted file called insurance setting off speculation about what the massive file may contain well here to discuss this with me is our chief producer lucy cavanagh off who has been following this whole story pretty much since if we can now see you know one of the things obviously it may not surprise people that government officials have come out and condemned wiki leaks but a number of even wiki leaks supporters are coming out saying that they were a little careless in some of the information that they released and not redacting names and that could be that could be harmful and in a very negative way what do you make of this backlash i think there's several things going on here first of all look at the source i mean i think we see to some extent certain news organizations that were maybe a little bit upset that we didn't go to them with this information you know finding
11:49 pm
new stories to write about about you know how we can make somehow put all these lives at risk and what not i mean did they really i don't think so i mean we know that julian assange held back fifteen thousand documents related to part of this afghan war secret dump that he wanted to go through specifically for making sure they don't have names of informants and other safety reasons so we know that they hold that back second of all i mean look at the source here when you have the u.s. government criticizing wiki leaks for essentially having blood in its hands first of all the government created this database that apparently a number of soldiers had access to that. add all of this information you know don't put that information on the internet even if it's protected for people to be able to access and leaked to news organizations or wiki leaks if you don't want that information out there they should never have put the names of the informants in there or at least you know put it in some sort of classified or coded way that you know couldn't get out easily so i would say look at the source on that one and moreover i mean it's so difficult for me to sit there and listen to gates or
11:50 pm
admiral mike mullen who was initially accused of having blood in this hands you know make these criticisms at a journalistic organization when the military is the one that's sending our young boys and girls to war the military is the institution that essentially you know unfortunately in some instances allows mistakes to happen where civilians get hit get killed i mean it's not wiki leaks that's driving war policy here don't shoot the messenger fair point that brings me to today do you think that what we're seeing this enormous file on their website it's encrypted it's a very large document it secret no one knows what it is no one can open it is this a response to the backlash is this a publicity stunt what do you make of it right i mean we can of course only speculate you know of course when you put up a giant file that nobody can access and call it insurance it's going to make some headlines and we can only assume that perhaps julian and wiki leaks feel like they're under threat and so perhaps this has some sort of important from
11:51 pm
a shouldn't you know the release out there in case we can accept or goes down it is a little bit strange to me that they chose to do this because you know it just raises so many questions why be so public about it why not just you know leak this file to a certain amount of wiki leaks supporters and then deal with it when you cross that bridge but at the same time he does have some valid reasons to be afraid i mean we know that he the web site are now on the government's radar we know that certain supporters of wiki leaks certain volunteers have been detained there was a gentleman by the name of jacob apple who was interrogated for three. hours last week at an airport he's a u.s. citizen they asked him about where julian assange is based his views on the war in afghanistan and iraq trying to sort of get information about who runs this website wiki leaks and so you know i think he has some valid reason to be concerned. whether or not posting this giant pile is necessarily the best plan of action i don't know all right well listen i trust you will get to the bottom of it i want you to find out how to get into that insurance file i know you can call it it's on
11:52 pm
and figure it all out least you have an offering actually that's on that now the d. word is coming up more and more when we talk about the united states economy i'm not talking about depression i'm not even talking double dip recession it could be either one of those i'm talking about deflation some economists have been saying for a while that the u.s. could be headed for a deflationary period very similar to japan's lost decade as it was known when economic expansion ground to a total halt now even establishment economists are sounding the alarm here to talk about it is gregory white of the business insider gregg now as you point out we now have the st louis fed president saying the u.s. may be headed to a deflationary period now prior to this others have warned about it but we haven't really heard this from you know an official at the fed so whose fault is this and why are people just now getting it. it's not really the fault of anyone i mean this is what happens when you have home prices decline to the degree that they have and
11:53 pm
that carries over to the rest of the economy that's that's what happens in deflation and you have to think of it this way it's just a bubble deflating it's as simple as that and the major bubble that deflated was in the home prices and now that spreading to the rest of the economy and the fed has done a great deal to try to prevent this from happening to the degree that it's now threatening including you know buying assets off of banks' balance sheets and bringing them on to their own as well as increasing the money supply and trying to get people to go out and spend as much as they can but in a deflationary cycle the only decision people make is to pay down their debt grow. and spend and that only exacerbates deflation and makes it worse but why are people just now why is that bad president in st louis just now saying that when other economists have been warning of this for months but yet the fed then very concerned about inflation why do you know next priority. well the fed was kind of split for a long time between which which thing they were supposed to be more afraid of where that was the inflation or deflation and other economists have been trying to put
11:54 pm
themselves in a particular camp to say i believe it's going to be inflationary period i'm going to leave in a deflationary period but now the fed split is leaning towards deflation and that's why you see the st louis fed president speaking out because now they want to make moves and they're trying to prepare the public for those moves that they're going to be more aggressive in buying securities again from banks and trying to put more into their balance sheet to stimulate spending and the main sense simulate lending from banks because that's what this is really all about banks aren't lending because they're paying down debt so if the fed takes their debt they're more likely to lend that's the presumption by the fed now ok but is it as simple as that is it that simple as monetary policy as very as. you know any one of these measures is there more it take is there going to be larger trade offs made in the u.s. . absolutely this isn't just a simple thing where you can start spending more money in terms of the government from fiscal policy perspective or the fed can start doing more to ease rates or to take on more assets but what's going to have to happen is
11:55 pm
a structural rethink about the way the u.s. government spends money which is going to mean cutting from the biggest portion of the u.s. government's budget and that's defense defense spending is now something like half of the u.s. government's budget although some parts of it we don't even know how much they're spending and the reality is that money is not putting people to work it's not employing more people in previous wars spending was it similar heights world war two it was a similar cost to iraq and afghanistan but we're also sending millions of troops into combat and putting millions more to work with this war in iraq enough. that's not happening so we're not getting any of the benefits from that spending and that has to be cut spending on defense instead put to programs that will actually put people to work and push the economy forward but greg what to do many academics and experts say the america empire is built on military spending that that's what supports america's empire even supports the dollar so what to do if the u.s. has to cut military spending what happens to the u.s. then well the u.s.
11:56 pm
empire is going to have to shrink but it's going to have to be a managed shrink you know these things don't happen they do happen dramatically overnight sometimes but usually it's something that happens progressively such as with the british are so what you'll see is the u.s. will pursue its withdrawal from iraq which president obama said he was going to do today and from afghanistan and from other parts of the world and let other big powers take over that spatial see india merge in the south continent china in asia as it has been brazil and south america and russia and germany and europe so you'll see these other powers start to move forward the u.s. will learn or lose a little bit of its of its empire and chunk by chunk but they'll be stronger at home and that will allow them to move forward on a stronger basis and i think that's what's really facing the u.s. right now that's how it all starts greggory why we appreciate your insight on the possibility of a lost decade for the u.s. that is going to do it for tonight show thanks for today and make sure to come back tomorrow in the meantime don't forget to become a fan of the alone
11:57 pm
