seven thirty in the morning here in moscow thanks for staying with us here on r t the zero headlines toxic smoke that's blanketed the city has finally lifted but the record heat wave is showing no signs of abating in the russian capital hundreds of wildfires are still burning in western and central russia with flames now reaching areas contaminated by the sheer noble nuclear disaster officials say not to panic as the pollution remains deep in the soil offers of help and condolence have been pouring in from across the globe. as russia struggles with the fire and drought the country's grain export has been temporarily halted to secure domestic needs there are fears that more crops could be lost in the heat in the flames prompting global grain prices to rise meanwhile millions in india are going hungry while stocks rot in temporary storage. and could be poised for

a comeback in iraq by attracting former u.s. sympathizers with the promise of high pay but i believe to be targeting a sunni group that aligned itself with coalition forces during the two thousand and three conflict the militia leaders say al-qaeda is capitalizing on u.s. troop withdrawals and continuing political instability. white house press secretary robert gibbs said the american left should be quote drug tested for what was said about barack obama find out what was behind that remark in the second part of the alone a show coming up with r.t. . it's time for tonight's tool time later and this time it's the son of former vice president dan quayle you know the guy who couldn't spell potato well ben quayle is running for congress in arizona and he's mad take a list. is the worst president in history and my generation will inherit a weakened country drug cartels in mexico tax cartels in d.c.
11:34 pm
. what's happened to america. i was raised right somebody has to go to washington and knock the hell out of the place my name spent well and i approved this message. i'm sorry with that too funny ben quayle looks like you describe a fifteen year old and he's going to d.c. to knock the hell out of the place give me a break i could knock him out in two seconds flat but despite his teenage boys physique there's another reason the band is running this over the top that you see he's trying to divert attention out in arizona trying to divert the way from two scandals that are surrounding him it's been reported that he founded iran to have side called the dirty dot com and the sites dedicated to pictures of stan scantily clad women and not so nice comments and after first denying that he had been ghost writing on the site he later came clean today and confessed that yes he had
11:35 pm
contributed to the dirty dot com but that doesn't sound very g.o.p. family friendly to me now this scandal came after ben's campaign posted a picture on his website talking about how he and his wife are going to raise their kids in arizona and just look at those little girls in that a happy family except for one little problem you see ben in his wife don't have any kids so this new ad calling obama the worst president is i think just an attempt to change the subject and distract the arizona voters so let's hope that they wise up and that's why ben quayle is tonight's tool time later. on that note let's talk about its own comments that have the political world from the political world but i've been making some news i think you know what i'm talking about i only wear an entire diatribe about last night's for our friend robert gibbs obama's press secretary the guy that said the professional left should be drug
11:36 pm
tested for drawing comparisons between obama and bush now he later apologized he did stand by his words and blame his own professionalism on cable news but my big question here is why it's getting off so easy why does he get to keep his job when people have been let go for far far less surely sharod ring a bell he is after all obama's mouthpiece so while obama has chosen to keep him around is the left's going to decide to keep obama around or joining me from our new york studio is sarah betting cause a radio host and blogger for one cat sarah thanks so much for being here now tell me this be honest you know robert gibbs is supposed to be a professional this guy is a press secretary talking and you know speaking wisely that that's his job he is obama's mouthpiece like i said so do you think they're being a little too easy on him would anybody else been have been fired for those comments . you know i'm actually surprised that that the left is being us tough on him
11:37 pm
as it is or perhaps i should say as we are not known for being a very centrist. i'm a bit surprised about it because i think it was sort of charming that he lost his mind temporarily and said horrible things usually that something that we're used to seeing from folks on the right and i thought it was kind of adorable that he suggested everyone be drug tested if only because it's probably actually a good idea based on the reporters that i know in d.c. . ok ok. your opinion there but come on i think it's a little over the top to assume that anyone on the professional left has to be a weed smoking hippie i mean i went to u.c. santa cruz i saw a lot of weed smoking hippies here in d.c. you do not have the same kind of people. in. d.c. he's not as chill of a town of santa cruz or just very beautiful you know of course i mean he was he was speaking he was talking out of turn in a sense he was fired up he was
11:38 pm
a great we all have bad days at work and you know he's a texan these are people not known for subtlety he just lets it all out that's who he is he's wild you never know what he's going to do next i've never known never thought of robert gibbs is a wild man but i guess you would be no i don't think maybe he isn't scared is this is my favorite quote that kept flying around yesterday is that republicans they fear their base so they're too scared to say anything like that whereas democrats they hate their base do you think that's true. is that true you know i think that democrats i don't think it's that we i don't think the democrats hate their base i think that democrats were so used to being starved for eight years of any elements of joy that we sort of went buck wild when we elected barack obama we got so thrilled and so excited and that was fantastic but now i think democrats are acting a little bit some of them anyway like children who were promised
11:39 pm
a whole lot of candy and just got a tootsie roll so i understand where gibbs is coming from from his perspective he's in the fishbowl he hears this every single day i do think obama's done a lot of fantastic things but gibbs came off as if he was criticizing reporters for not falling in line and that's where he went wrong well you that is where he went wrong is you know he came off like saying to you guys all you want to do is whine about what we haven't done and look at how much we have accomplished legislatively which they have they've definitely done that but to use the whole don't act like we do anything like george bush does as an example is can you still hear me. can you still hear me there is there are i think we may have lost unfortunately our sound with us they're going to cause the but we will try to finish that discussion maybe later on this week because i'm so angry with robert gibbs anyway we're going
11:40 pm
to take a break but still to come on tonight's show the mormon church is great lengths to let you know how cool and normal there are they are i'll explain what's behind their bizarre campaign blitz in just a moment and is the money really do sadly it looks like all signs are pointing to yes business insiders gregory white will join me with his predictions on the economy right after the break.
11:42 pm
funny things to say. we. don't. when i say the word mormon what comes to mind utah maybe mitt romney or donny and marie osmond the church of latter day saints i also pop in your head but something that kind of strange is going on in several cities around the us something that deals with mormons there's a new campaign with taking place introducing everyday americans to everyday mormons why you might as well to be honest no one's really sure but here's a clip of joy who is a mormon and who lives in hawaii. that you just won't catch any good waves and i think that's kind of family. position yourself in the right place you can make use of the opportunities that come your way and. i miss trying mining and i'm a professional long voyage fairy and i'm more. nice to meet you joy not
11:43 pm
sure why the hell you're in an ad telling me you're a mormon but you know ok then we have another clip and this time it's cassandra who is an artist and a mother. i am a spontaneous discipline i am the mother of three beautiful little girls my name is sandra barney and i mean. i just love that catchy tag and i am a morning now the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is running these ads but what's behind the ads that almost have this public service announcement feel are they really trying to convince americans that they're normal they're cool just like everyone else are they sick of being the butt of jokes and want to end all the prejudice well the mormon church denies that they have any political agenda here but i'm wondering if all of this might just be an attempt to make two thousand and twelve presidential hopeful mitt romney who is
11:44 pm
a mormon more electable among the republican republican primary voters now keep in mind the ad is running in four swing states. sounds like the church is trying to pave the way for romney to run for president again but thanks for the really cool ads anyway i now think that all mormons are totally cool and totally normal. well federal reserve officials have suddenly change their tune whereas in june they felt that the recovery was moving along gradually this week they've admitted. that they've announced that they'll keep interest rates low and use the proceeds from their huge mortgage bond portfolio to buy long term government debt but why this sudden turnaround should we be worried about a double that well joining me from our new york studio to discuss it is gregory white from the business insider greg thanks so much for joining us ok i have to ask you question because constantly we hear you know the obama administration and they'll come out and comment on jobs reports and on the economy and nobody really
11:45 pm
listens but when the federal reserve makes a statement do you think people listen. it's clear that markets listens today i mean it took them a couple days twenty four hours to get it to sink in but with the amount of all the indices around the world went down today and specifically in the u.s. we saw the nasdaq off nearly three percent five hundred and some really down markets are well aware and investors are well aware of what the fed is saying but you know why the quick changing to and from the federal reserve because if you look back to june they would have told you that it looks like is gradually the economy and employment you know are on the way up and then all of a sudden they've told us that wait a minute everything has come to this drastic halt. very last month there was a little bit of a briefing in terms of how things might be shifting by one of the key fed members that cleared up the fact that well this recovery might not be what it seems and now there's a much more clear statement saying that we need some we need to be worried about
11:46 pm
this now and need to be acting or at least thinking about how we're going to act to get in front of it so the real concern right now is to play ssion in the economy and they're now realizing that this is something they have to deal with which is a big switch from two months ago you're correct or what i find interesting that you know i was in here last week with you and lauren were talking about whether the u.s. is headed for this last decade japan style you spoke about deflation the fed says that they're still not worried about deflation that it's not a concern of theirs right so the fed's not going to come out and say publicly that they're worried about the place and if they were to use such words or be as aggressive as the markets would take it even harder than they did right now but what you saw today was that people around the world are now coming to terms with that yes the facia is something we need to be worried about that could be happening already and actually is likely happening already right now and the fed's just not going to say that and clear words until they're actually ready and they have a package of quantitative easing measures that means buying more securities off the
11:47 pm
balance sheets of banks to stimulate the economy it till they have that package ready they're not going to say that because they need to counter their push for deflation they're admission of deflation with some sort of other package by do you think the planet they're setting out there right now saying they're going to you know invest in long term government debt with all those mortgage bonds is that actually going to work is that going to save us for a while keep us afloat. it's not going to work this is a short term solution to a long term problem that they need to be dealing with and this is something that not the fed the fed can't even deal with itself so they're going to keep the balance sheet as is paul crewman said today that he wants them to expand the balance sheet that's probably good for quantitative easing measures that's something they need to do to tackle the problem but the reality is this is a structural issue the unemployment numbers in the u.s. are not going to be solved by simply loosening monetary policy and putting more money in the system the federal government needs to act and push more fiscal stimulus how they do that is unknown as of yet it's not going to happen until november because the election cycle is happening right now and there's no way the
11:48 pm
obama ministration the democrats are going to suddenly say here's a brand new stimulus package for everyone that's the last thing that the public wants to hear right now so we're stalled in something right now that's going to be terrible up until november where we can't even deal with the unemployment crisis or the long term issues going on with this economy well i'm happy to bring that up because another stimulus is definitely a contentious issue right now and you're right before the elections nobody is going to want to deal with a after the election who knows what else is going to happen you know if congress can't decide on another stimulus then what happens is it up to the fed to make another drastic step. so there's only so much the fed can do the real problem is that if you're trying to employ more people you have to create more jobs and the fed can loosen montero policy as much as they want similar to how japan did during its last decade but that doesn't suddenly make banks want to lend more companies want to spend more or individual consumers want to spend more either so if none of
11:49 pm
those things are happening with the fed's moves the federal government has to step in and in this case the federal government shows no interest in doing it right now and the long term implications are dire not to mention the problems of the amount of debt that the u.s. government has which is another reason why they don't want to go through with the stimulus but it's probably more of a short term worry than it is really or as a long term worry rather than what we should be worrying about right now fine fine fine sounds like all good good news all around how and where you tell me this very quickly gold is obviously still a big big deal right now and a big winner for a lot of people are those people that decided to invest in it maybe let's say two years ago or so are they just raking in the dell right now and they're going to continue to do so because they were smart enough to that then you know life is pretty good good for gold investor. benefits from everyone who's worried about everything else that's going on the market so everyone runs to gold invests in gold and when worries go up that's what happens and over the next time period for the
11:50 pm
next six months that's going to continue to happen there's going to be more money going into gold and gold prices are likely to go up as well so those people are going to continue to be very happy in the short term if not for the long term sounds like i should have started worrying a long time ago in that case gregory thanks so much for joining us. on tonight's show the scandal grows after the head of h.p. is ousted for an affair with a porn star maybe and as a smartphone you alone say a lot about your sex life while discussing those topics and more with relationship expert diana fels though in just a moment. first . here. or. there may be. on
11:51 pm
the edge. now it's time for a little bit of fun there been a slew of sex scandals and twitter flirtations in the news as of late that only serves to remind us how much politics and pop culture really are fusing together first of all the infamous snooki from jersey shore has started beef with obama and
11:52 pm
she's made friends with john mccain even to the point where he defended her prison stint and said that she was too good looking to go to jail then rwanda and them have sparked a new political debate over whether music videos are art or political commentary or bow. but we're going to start off the discussion with the recent h.p. c.e.o. scandal he was forced to resign everybody was shocked we thought it was firm bezel that there was a former porn star and a sexual harassment suit that all came into the mix so it looks like h.p. was trying to save themselves a p.r. nightmare and my question is if politicians are involved in sex scandals all the time if we had a sitting president involved in one and he still recovered then why would a corporate c.e.o. be a victim and have to step down or earlier i caught up with relationship expert diana fels on from our new york studio and i asked her just that. i think the corporations care because maybe they're making an example out of him i mean we
11:53 pm
could say that we had a sitting president who was technically impeached but then still remained in the presidency but everybody you know turned their head and was like what are we thinking here as a government i think as a private sector company they have to be careful how their customers are going to view something i mean people are still up in arms that this man had a forty million dollar payout to just resign and leave others are saying that he should have just been flat out fired let go and had just grace legacy left behind him now well that's where all the details get so murky is you know does he have a disgraced legacy or was the company trying to go after him and just trying desperately to dig up dirt something that makes sense since he did get that forty million dollars payout like you said but i don't know i mean i feel like you know politicians have more of a moral obligation to the people than the c. p i don't really care what he does personally. i don't really care what he does either i mean i wish i was going to be
11:54 pm
getting forty million dollars to walk away for a job on bad behavior i mean who doesn't but i think that the difference is here is obviously there was some kind of inner workings going on within the corporation that maybe publicly will find out as the week progresses what really went on there could have been more to the story that maybe they're hiding maybe there was and i'm just obviously alleging this maybe there was more than sexual harassment happening there maybe she knew secrets about the company i mean was she or marilyn monroe in a sense that she kept a diary of everything going on at h.p. we really don't know the answers until we have all those facts and details we can't make an intelligent conclusion about what's really going on over there but i guess good riddance to him and i don't think anyone's going to be touching him for at least six months to a year till someone scoops them up for another forty million dollars. or until. finds another porn star who you can take out to dinner all the time. i want to loan
11:55 pm
and she's a soft soft stuff. that is more legitimate than classy you're totally correct in that speaking very classy ladies for of the jersey shore it literally has taken the world by storm i mean everybody is talking about this girl and she recently was tweeting about her complaints about barack obama putting a ten percent tax on tanning and even all the way in taiwan people responded to this i want to show a little clip. of these until she. writes i have no idea what was said but basically we can see that she's laying this smack down on obama there but what's so interesting is that she even john mccain are now engaged in this twitter communication flirtation whatever you want to call it so is she being smart here politically. i think she's being
11:56 pm
very smart public politically i wouldn't faze she's in any way going to be the new sarah palin and i'm going to make you know i had on the campaign trail but she's definitely positioning herself as a pop cultural icon i mean this woman is being talked about across the world i mean like you just said taiwan i mean there's nothing that she can't touch right now and have an impact on although i have to say it was disturbing what kind of twitter flirtation her and john mccain are having i'm not sure who i'm more disturbed about snooki flirting with them or making flirting with her or it's all too much for me ok i agree it's a little disturbing what i wonder is what kind of phones that they both use when they tweet because of the new study that came out that it turns out people with i phones actually have more sex than people with black berrys i don't know about you i don't know how you know new york is but here in d.c. almost everybody has a black berry and here in d.c. almost everyone is kind of nerdy city thing that has them to do with it. i do i've always said that those that have i phones it's mac based imac is more creative
11:57 pm
that's where musicians download a lot of their music you can do a lot with videos producers i mean it's more of a creative mind set the blackberry is for like executive types those that are working corporate jobs who are very business mind it so it only makes sense that the creative types are going to get more and those that are more focused on black and white concrete logical things are going to have less access it's sad i think blackberry to. get loud story or this is actually this music video came out last week so i was on vacation last week so playing a tiny little bit of catch up it's the new music video with three on it and. well let's play a clip first. time just.
11:58 pm
right so everybody is up in arms over this music video they're saying that this is just glamorizing domestic abuse especially the fact that we're gone isn't this music video i mean i think it's kind of what do you think. you know i think it's for vocative video i think what we need to focus on is that any discussion about domestic abuse is really important because it opens the floodgates to tell people that this is something that happens within many households and it is a secret i do think that it's it's a piece of art in the sense of it's a music video they're trying to sell a single they're trying to make this commercialized a song and you can't separate that i do think that the artist especially because i was a victim of domestic abuse herself that she does have a responsibility to maybe follow it up and i'm not certain if they haven't done this already but put a p.s.a. message after the video and say if you are a deal. with symptoms or signs of domestic abuse this is the number you can reach
11:59 pm
out to you and get help one thing that the video did do and i think it did it well it showed the cyclical nature of abuse and how it's very easy to confuse possessiveness and jealousy and control and abuse with love love is not painful well it's definitely a complicated issue but i guess rionda of all people you know has the right to put her art and her emotions into it and i think so much. thank you. art it's time for our tweets of the day now we just has just discussed how snooki has started a feud with president obama and she even told him to stop lying that he doesn't know her so we want to know what would president obama tweet we thought he'd say something like a snarky stop tanning so much with that orange glow your star no local little bit like congressman john boehner that's our tweet board tonight we will have another one for you tomorrow that's also tonight's show thanks for tuning in make sure you come back tomorrow night we speak to the author of a new book on u.s.
