away. whatever russia's most wanted terror suspects arrested then released in warsaw is awaiting a court's decision on his extradition. and find out what dangers why at the bottom of the baltic sea is r.t. explores the world war two relics still posing problems. nine am in moscow good to have you with us here on r t our top story parliamentary elections in afghanistan have been marred by several attacks by the taliban across the country it's feared that more incidents could follow with security forces on high alert as voting continues for the latest we're joined by paul asleep live from the afghan capital paula tell us about tell us more about the attacks and what kind
1:04 am
of impact they're having on the average voter there in kabul. well since the polling stations opened in the early hours of this morning a grim picture here in afghanistan in terms of security it was a massive explosion here in the capital city of kabul hours before those first stations opened no reports of injuries we're also hearing no reports of injuries regarding the rocket attacks in the south in the city of kandahar and there has also been a direct hit on a polling station in the east in jalalabad we are now hearing a woman any reports of a rocket attack in the north we're hearing that one person there has been killed but as of yet we've been unable to confirm this so certainly a grim picture in several provinces around the country and this is just a few hours after the potence stations opened tens of thousands of afghan police and security forces are out in the streets manning those polling stations they are back to what i said the foreign forces the us morning we drove past several polling stations here in kabul you can notice this heavy security presence there are
1:05 am
certainly a lot more roadblocks than they were for example yesterday but this is here in the city when you move further into the rule areas and we're talking here of some four thousand rural villages where polling stations are trying to run smoothly today certainly there are threats by the taliban and insurgency groups will play a bigger role the latest threats are that they will cut off the fingers of people who go to vote today you will know that people will have a purple marking on their finger indicating that they did vote and this marking takes some ninety six hours to disappear so that kind of intimidation is certainly being felt around afghanistan today among the first people to cast his ballot today was president karzai he urged afghans to come out and have they say we're also hearing from the independent electoral commission they say that the paper ations for this election have been more efficient than they were last year during the presidential election that was marred by reports and allegations of mess of forward the two main concerns of these elections are that fraud and security already twenty four people had to be revealed in election related violence in the run up to these
1:06 am
elections i looked at the phenomenon of security and what impact. would have been afghans in the following report from. the symbol of the afghan election more than a quarter of a million afghan police to protect those brave enough to defy the taliban we ourselves have received e-mails from the taliban saying that they planned attacks countrywide on the on the day of the vote and that they are targeting both voters and election workers it's nothing new even in the last election. the taliban did not kill anybody for that but what do you do you want to beat him you were around it up you were insulted those parliamentary elections were held five years ago and they brought to power former warlords and their followers but if mitt had been excited to take part now he's just grateful to be alive so i went with my family to an election station we got there there were people with guns they wanted us to vote
1:07 am
for their person they said if you don't vote for us we will hurt you we could see who we voted for and when they realized it was for someone else very badly. and here is one of those voting stations as you can see armed gunmen at the entrance who are these people are going to leave the security area because why just how dangerous to make it. sound sometimes it will be. are you going to be very same you know. because i don't trust anybody and seven in ten afghans agree they'll be staying away when he could go back to the edge this and which still exists and the . finger will not go in ninety two hours will not go away so people will think that the likud guys at least twenty four people including four candidates have already been killed in one of election related violence politicians
1:08 am
campaigners and candidates have also been kidnapped a thousand of the nearly seven thousand voting stations will not open their doors if you cannot make secure. for one day a lot of questionable rows one hundred fifty thousand four. hundred or six of those and. these former fighters are among the few who feel safe enough to brave the streets on election day. i have to accept the violence and voting for my future. so the fight now is for real political change but it seems that most afghans are so disillusioned in the politicians they feel the battles are not worth the risk of stepping foot outside their home on saturday. it seems like it's a bleak picture there sometimes how important is this election for the country. well these elections are important because first and foremost they are a taste of the afghan government's ability to hold free fair and legitimate
1:09 am
elections but at the same time they're a test of the power of the insurgency so what people will be looking at today is whether or not the government together with its international backers is in fact able to stop all the threats coming from organizations such as the taliban most afghans do believe in the electoral process i mean these are the filthy elections that have been held in this country since the fall of the taliban back in two thousand and one they do believe that these elections are a way to keep checks on the almost seemingly limitless power of president karzai administration and also the reports of corruption that come out of that administration but there was a lot of apathy there was also a lot of pessimism in terms of what has been achieved since the last parliamentary elections five years ago there are two hundred forty nine seats that people are voting for there are more than three thousand candidates standing there are a number of seats that have been specifically reserved for women twenty five seats there are three hundred women standing so that is also one of the focuses of the speech and a chance to empower women here in afghanistan but security remain
1:10 am
a number one concern more than one thousand out of six thousand eight hundred polling stations have been forced to keep the doors closed because of security concerns right artie's paulus leader live for us in kabul afghanistan thanks for that report stay safe. you're watching our team still ahead we hit the campaign trail for the u.s. midterm elections. by the all time i am poverty of more than fifteen years have these big name conservative leaders say what america can meet this demand gay marriage bring god we're not going to. find out what values some u.s. voters put up a top of their western times of crisis coming your way in a few moments on our team. first though one of russia's most wanted terrorist suspects who was detained in poland on for. day on an international arrest warrant has been released in the next few days the court will determine whether ahmed will be extradited to russia following moscow's demand to turn him over artie's alexei.
1:11 am
developments live for us in warsaw hello alexei so tell us what can we read if anything into this decision by the polish court to release. now and. walked out of this very building the record late on friday night after the court decided that it cannot keep in detention any longer the court justified this decision saying that it has a political refugee status in the u.k. and this status applies to the whole of the european union and that's why i have had to be released it is really hard to say now whether this decision was somehow influenced by his lawyers any kind of bail but what we've heard from the officials in the court is that hard to believe because of his political refugee status now i'd like to remind you is that one of russia's wanted terrorist suspects was detained in warsaw early on friday morning. he came here to attend the third old
1:12 am
world congress of the chechen people and as long as a crime has an international arrest warrant issued on him he is wanted by the interpol he was detained in a war cell for questioning in the local prosecutor's office now they have been lots of comments coming from the officials in poland concerning the fate of the concerning concerning whether he would be extradited to russia including comments from the country's prime minister don't. think any of them are going to the prosecutor general tells me they have no choice but to start the extradition procedures but these procedures do not mean an instant extradition and the russian side shouldn't necessarily hope for a decision that will satisfy. the media is now speculating here in poland where there's a guy who can leave the country as we heard from the representative of the district court in war so that's the kind of free to leave the country we know that he is now attending the congress of the chechen people obviously the mission which he came
1:13 am
here for and we still expecting any news whatsoever on the whether he will be extradited or not and whether he can leave the country or not as a kind of remains one of russia's most wanted terror suspects but it seems that moscow is having a tough time persuading other countries to help bring him to justice. indeed it's not the first time. extradition issue was surfaced in the in the news media the world news media indeed russia has been trying to extradite the cry from the u.k. since early two thousand and one in two thousand and two when he was granted a political asylum in the u.k. he is wanted in russia as one of the most wanted men in russia one of the terrorist suspects accused of many atrocities in the caucasus region in russia including several terrorist attacks in the region and also including the terror attack in mosque or the theater siege in most of the nord-ost theater siege in moscow where
1:14 am
most could believe he had some involvement in that terrorist attack as well indeed old these are these attempts by most school to extradite the kind of from london have been so far futile and this is the closest most school got so far to having a trial over the cry of held in russia but so far it is really hard to say what fate awaits this man as it is unclear whether he will be leaving poland in the next several days or so. like sarah shahi life for us in warsaw thanks for that state duma deputy valerie bhagam all all things there could be political factors behind her arrest in poland. but it was this incident was a kind is quite interesting i have to say boland has repeatedly declared that it will follow its obligations as an interpol member to prosecute any person who is wanted by that organization only other hand reports about zakaria's upcoming visit
1:15 am
appeared in the media two days ahead of the visit itself now we know that some kind of went straight to the prosecutor's office right after having arrived in poland why did you do that he could have done the same thing in the u.k. that countries in interpol number two but he had to do it in poland i have a theory on my own and why he did that although it may seem unusual but it's true goal was to provoke a strong reaction in order to spoil the improving political relations between poland and russia we all know that the russian authorities were upset over the u.k.'s repeated refusal to extradite snowden i have my request of the russian prosecutor general's office and now such an interesting twist i hope in the long run poland will act in accordance with international law and complete all extradition procedures. turning to the u.s. now where those preparations for a midterm elections against a backdrop of more grim news this week for the economy but on the campaign trail it for some parties that's not finance but family values that should be given top priority are things christina for us as been following the conservative values

voter summit. they say they came to take america back it isn't our values our shared timeless values that have changed is that it's our leaders that have changed. in campaign like speeches they criticized among other things president obama the white house tries to argue that their stimulus has helped. that's a bit like saying that squirting water from a garden hose helps put out a forest fire one day after staggering numbers were released from the u.s. census bureau showing a more than fourteen percent increase of those living below the poverty line powerful organizations and big name politicians came out to spread this message you cannot divorce the social issues from the fiscal and financial issues so just what are these pressing social issues like anything else everything's great. you're free to the first one organization says marriage in america is under attack marriage is
1:17 am
a fundamental right but there is not a fundamental right to marry whoever you want our government our policies have always regulated who you marry or who you may not know the national organization of marriage wants to keep it that way in other words no gay marriage and speaking of gays tradition family and property works to keep them out of the military when you fight for freedom shouldn't you also want to have freedom. obviously we have we have to fight for freedom and freedom does not mean license to do whatever you want these issues so important to the masses here a new lobbying group has been formed its aim is that republican elected officials to get them to put social issues back at the top of their agenda these are elected officials they were sent to washington to represent the people in their districts and their states many of these people the bottom line is they can't pay their mortgage they don't have a job shouldn't that be the number one focus the thing is is that the issue of the

middle class that's the main issue at stake here the middle class has a number of priorities it's the main class that is the emphasis for social issues well you heard it here first the middle class cares most about social issues a month there is one issue even more important to the participants here god hala emanates from an almighty god and then god. it confers upon the individual power and then the individual in turn confirms up portion of that power on the government reserving all the remainder of the power to themselves for the last two years the most our voices in the conservative movement have come from the tea party tea which stands for the fact that enough already well here are the voters values that never have a turning point that things are changing that despite an all time high in poverty in more than fifteen years that these big name conservative leaders say what

day of the forum nicholas pool was listening in and he brings us this assessment from sochi. there's a palpable sense of optimism here at the sochi economic forum it's slightly smaller than the last year with five thousand delegates attending their representatives from companies both foreign and domestic the themes of the forum was set during the prime minister putin schemed of stress on the challenges of modernization and improving the investment climate the highlights of his message was that russia often photo ground for investors both big and small but she's going to make it up as normal the russian economy is still not spoiled by the attention of investors neither foreign nor local ones the russian business climate is claimed to have problems with and sometimes these claims are justified sometimes not we know our problems really well and we will solve them the key factor for the russian government will be a measured and rather conservative macroeconomic policy. the optimism about the
