out of fifty one of the acorn offices up and down the eastern seaboard. this is what you think looks like. i guess is the stereotypical costume i think comes to mind yeah yeah we were yeah it turns out that o'keefe was a lying the whole time and he didn't even wear the pimp outfit into the corner offices but i definitely didn't stop fox news from jumping right on the bandwagon and spreading a lie now o'keefe was also convicted in may of entering senator mary landrieu his office under false pretenses so now as if this guy hasn't done enough he's accused of trying to punk a c.n.n. reporter c.n.n.'s abbie boudreau is working on a show about young conservatives called right on the edge now she was trying to film o'keefe and his friends so he agreed to a meeting in maryland but with no cameras he just wanted to discuss the project first now when she arrived she was told that o'keefe wanted her to meet him on his boat and this is where it gets really really good according to c.n.n.
11:31 pm
he set up his boat to be a quote pleasure palace where he was going to try and seduce her in front of hidden cameras and he would then use that footage if c.n.n. ever reported anything bad about him while c.n.n. obtained e-mails that outlined the entire plan which included a list of props like a condom jar dildos a blindfold mood music like a leash the keys to not marvin gay because it was too chichi along with porn and by agora all to try and seduce her i'm just curious i mean what what girls with those efforts ever work on clearly o'keefe here and never actually seduced a woman which i guess looking at it was into shopping well obviously abbi boudreau was having none of it and she left now keith says c.n.n. has it wrong but c.n.n. has the e-mails detailing the entire drama to prove it and one e-mail o'keefe wrote this bubble headed beach blonde who comes on at five will get a taste of her own medicine she'll get seduced on camera and you'll get a. see the awkwardness and the aftermath she someone sounds
11:32 pm
a little bit better i'm sorry that the media and the ladies have been so mean to you james but james you have absolutely no chance with abby ever so for your stupid plan and your ego and say we're for the fact that something must be wrong with you james o'keefe you are tonight's to a time where. well we almost had a double to all time winner tonight but since we can only have one for this prestigious award we decided that we could still make fun of newt gingrich who just seems to have lost it seriously i mean it's no secret the older new gets the crazier his comments become he's been making the rounds recently on t.v. mostly on fox news helping with the radical right into a frenzy of islamophobia and now he's setting his sights on november's elections which is kind of a scary thought he's making dire predictions about the future of this country and he's launched ten million voters dot com a tea party campaign to stop the quote radical secular socialist machine take
11:33 pm
a look. you know i don't remember any time in american history where we've had such a threat to our basically of what a genuinely radical secular socialist machine ramming things through with no regard for american values or the beliefs of the american people. wow new are you a paranoid much how is congress in the white house ramming things through with no regard for american values or the beliefs of the american people the voters spoke in two thousand and eight they voted for these people they gave president obama and congress their blessing and during the campaign obama and the democrats told us they were going to reform health care and wall street so how is this ramming things through with no regard for values of really so newt got some advice. take a deep breath we're not becoming a socialist nation you're just trying to scare people ahead of the election and get in the good graces the tea party and of your rumored run for president in two
11:34 pm
thousand and twelve a new nose of the only way he is going to have any power in that party is if he out crazies the rest of the g.o.p. heading into iowa new hampshire so it appears that scaremongering from newt is just going to keep on happening. now the un general assembly wrapped up its seven day meeting today the international conference is a gathering of nearly two hundred countries around the world but when global leaders like barack obama and mark went off when a job left me about last week so did most of the t.v. cameras as our team is marina portnoy reports that leaves the smaller countries in need of the most help without any media coverage. and international circus of political power. public stress for new yorkers. reporters secret service and barricades three signs of world leaders are crammed inside one building for the annual united nations general assembly debate. this
11:35 pm
diplomatic gathering provides more than one hundred ninety countries an opportunity to promote their foreign policy agenda but generally it's always the same voices now is the time to build the trust dominating the stage in identifying those responsible in the september eleventh attacks journalists flew in from all over the world to cover the seven day event. to watch but once the richest and strongest finished pledging their promises. the press prematurely concluded their coverage people don't hear. them so i think you're bored to see what. you know the. mainstream media pulled the plug on this international story friday evening with more than one hundred and twenty nations yet to speak abandoned by live trucks and most police presence nations like palestine congo and mongolia were
11:36 pm
left addressing half empty are torrijos by monday when cuba spoke of suffering under u.s. and argos camera outside the u.n. but long to a tourist between two thousand and twenty five hundred journalists were accredited at the un for the general assembly. and when u.s. president barack obama was here the room i'm standing in was packed and when he laughed he took all the media attention with him now only a handful of journalists are left to report about all the other countries that are addressing the international body the poorest leaders took to the podium campaigning for climate change and the scene inside the un media center spoke volumes less than ten reporters and garbage cans overflowing with recycled rubbish . today also reflects that the u.n. suddenly doesn't draw as much attention. you know global governance seems to have so many challenges to address. to some scientists
11:37 pm
a lot of difficulties addressed in those child to choose the first maybe garnering respect from its host country nearly seventy percent of americans think the u.n. does a lousy job in solving global problems maybe they should move it somewhere else maybe going as ireland where nobody would be affected by it you know it's definitely inconvenient for everyone however most of the world criticizes americans for neglecting to understand local problems we only know what we hear we don't know exactly what's going. on that's good or bad i mean. we should know we should or should be you know the same for everyone if not the united nations may remain a place where everyone continues to talk and neglects to listen marina porton on a party in new york. is a wiki leaks about to fall apart according to former wiki leaks staffers a domino chain of resignations is under way including the organization's second best known name daniel schmidt
11:38 pm
a spokesman now why the change of heart from members of the world's most famous whistle blowing site well according to these former employees julian asuncion has become somewhat of a tyrant even chanting the following he said quote i am the heart and soul of this organization its founder philosopher spokes person original coder organizer a financier and all the rest and if you have a problem with it piss off. that's true too now some former staffers were complained the pressure was so men's to release huge documents that not enough time was given to properly redact all the information to put others in jeopardy and with the upcoming october eighteenth release of documents from iraq if all goes as promised of course questions are beginning to arise could wiki leaks be done and if so why would that mean for whistleblowers and for the idea that information should be open to the public when joining me from san francisco is wired senior editor kevin bulls and kevin thanks so much for joining me now i want to talk about you know it's no secret over the past six months or so ever since april release of the
11:39 pm
collateral damage video now wiki leaks really has come to the forefront on the world stage it's become a household name if you will and julian assange the figure at the front of it but i mean talking about this rise for such a secretive organization you know with performing such secretive acts it's kind of weird right that they had so much spotlight and. really embraced it. i don't think it's weird it's actually pretty consistent with their mission for anybody to be leaking information to wake you leaks they have to know that it's out there and they have to have a lot of faith in it so in that respect julian assange has public public notoriety and his frequent media appearances actually help really you don't think that i did the idea here is i mean also taking from quotes from his spokesman that left is that they're supposed to work as a team you know it's about the idea of putting information out there and sharing the knowledge with the public and not just about becoming
11:40 pm
a little starlet. right and that's where things are starting to fall apart a little bit it's not so much that julian assange is in the spotlight it's that within the organization he's he's an autocratic leader so people join up with this group believing that decisions are made as a community that everybody everybody is consulted and that everybody's opinion is valued and once they get in it turns out that you in a song calls all the shots and he's very secretive so sometimes the staffers who are all unpaid they're just to vote in themselves to this because they believe in the cause are completely out of the loop and they wind up hearing about what's going on from other sources yeah you know i mean i think that we can talk about the issue of trust which also plays a large role in this story because wiki leaks has at this point they've cultivated the relationship with those people that do leak documents for that they have their trust that they're not going to reveal their sources and now if you see it all crumbling do you think that some of that trust is going to disappear that people
11:41 pm
aren't going to be leaking information to them anymore. i it's possible that with these disputes that are going on down the resignations and the infrastructure problems that leakers may start having doubts about wiki leaks ability to publish the documents or to get them out there if you look at their record they've been focusing recently on a very large scale leaks like like the afghan. documents unlike the upcoming iraqi documents they've been neglected in the smaller weeks the routine leaks from governments around the world and organizations around the world that a lot of the a lot of the staffers hoped to be ushering out into the public domain that's right and the staffers are saying that you know there was such immense pressure to get these large documents out there in time that they didn't really have the adequate time to really go through them make sure that they took out the names that could put people in danger here but i mean if we really goes down if it does fall apart
11:42 pm
do you think that we have to worry about it or is another one just going to pop right up and we know there's something about the spirit of these people that do feel like information needs to be out there that hacker code of ethics if you will . daniel schmidt has said things that suggest that perhaps he's contemplating starting a site of his own so that's still speculative there are a lot of talented people involved and certainly they could erect a site like wiki leaks quickly that said i think it's far too soon to suggest that wiki leaks is going down in flames there's there's a there's a management shakeup there are there there are problems to be to be certain. but you know nonprofit groups and for profit groups survive survive dust ups like this routinely so soon to wiki leaks out well it's never too soon to start asking questions i guess. now cavity let me ask you this too you know i mean wiki leaks really has become a very popular name worldwide everyone knows that they're definitely not in the
11:43 pm
graces of the u.s. government but do you think that we made a difference that they've changed any attitudes that you know the what they've done what they've released has resulted in what you think. well we haven't seen any any dramatic reforms or any legislation coming out of wiki leaks. publications but they've they've certainly is certainly on. the public's understanding of it particularly the war in afghanistan there are really so that massive database back in july of events from the war. people are still going through that there's just so much to digest and there's been a lot of significant news reporting coming out of those reports now while definitely there is a lot of information to digest and sometimes we find that unfortunately when that is the case the most important information doesn't get out there because i don't know if i'm in agreement with you about a lot of important news reports i think we could see more and more discussion which
11:44 pm
is what we can because therefore kevin i want to thank you so much for joining us. thanks for having me. well there's one more segment left on the show tonight it's no secret that the u.s. is facing mounting problems with its infrastructure bridges crumbling gas lines breaking so is america on the verge of falling apart archie correspondent christine join me with that story next. wealthy british. find out what's really happening to the global economy. no holds barred global financial headlines kaiser reports.
11:46 pm
seems like natural disasters are on the rise where hurricane season instances of flooding in massive fires are all over the news meanwhile bridges and roads are suffering serious issues themselves for so far all of these problems with the infrastructure in the u.s. we cannot but wonder is america about to come crumbling down archie correspondent christine for us out has the story. what goes up must come down a simple law of gravity and it seems to be what is happening in america. the great bridge longest in the world is zero point come a thing san francisco with oakland it's an engineering masterpiece last year in
11:47 pm
september a crack was found in that masterpiece a month later this cable snapped off it's part of a growing trend that if you build it it will break it happened in minnesota when this bridge collapsed killing thirteen people and injuring one hundred forty five you can hear bridge structure wavering. creaky not a pleasant sound. more than eight hundred people died during hurricane katrina many not from the hurricane itself but from the flooding that ensued after it has to be a point where the government picks back up the loan they didn't take responsibility for. in san bruno california a natural gas pipeline exploded killing eight people and the list goes on a sign that lessons taught are not always lessons learned we have not been paying
11:48 pm
attention to it if you know investing in fixing the conditions it's going to detour it's only a matter of time not surprising then that the american society of civil engineers says politely the u.s. is under its. but their infrastructure report card shows grades no one would want to bring home to their parents with especially low scores in drinking water inland waterways roads and levees so how does the united states compare with the rest of the world while to give you an idea every year you're up invest five percent of its g.d.p. and infrastructure china invests nine percent the u.s. just over two percent you look in parts of the world where china type. a lot of your japan has high we have high speed rail. we're talking about high school grow they have president obama well aware of the competition is touting progress.
11:49 pm
let me tell you. another thing we've done is to. long overdue investments in upgrading. out. in a fish national infrastructure. we're talking roads we're talking bridges we're talking dams lettuce meanwhile shrinking budgets lead to dwindling resources a major problem in detroit earlier this month when fires spread rapidly throughout the city as nearly a dozen fire stations remained closed the city couldn't afford to pay for the nearly one hundred firefighters they were short over to get. more than eighty five homes and structures were destroyed but there is one place where investments are being me now with american tax dollars overseas in
11:50 pm
iraq and afghanistan. this is just the beginning and the laws of gravity remained overshadowed by the consequences of war christine freezone r t. well christine there in the studio with me to tell us more on this story you know christine it's it's sad to see things like this because i mean this is america we're the richest country in the world and yet we have such extreme infrastructure problems where things are literally crumbling and yet you're right you mentioned the end of the story that we spend so much money abroad we're spending money on reconstruction in iraq right now and you have figures force as to how much we actually put in there it's hard to say because there are so many billions of dollars that go and not even talking about afghanistan but iraq alone more than eleven billion dollars has been spent on infrastructure alone and that figure is from a few months ago but let's think about this is not just the infrastructure that needs several billion dollars more for security so that they can be safe while they're building and rebuilding things but one thing you know break this down
11:51 pm
a little bit because before we went into iraq back in two thousand and three. there was infrastructure there was a sewer system there were things that were going on. there but the fact is that you know even though there was a bad dictator when we came in people's lives were disrupted so this is part of war it's the cost of war to rebuild this kind of stuff unfortunately the really sad stories is when you hear how much is wasted one hundred sixty five million dollars children's hospital seems like a great thing it goes unused in baghdad right now figures like this are despicable and they're just pick a ball especially say if you're living in new orleans right now you haven't got your house rebuilt and you still don't have a lot of things fixed from the hurricane yeah i mean you're right on the one hand there is a lot of waste and at the same time there's just not a lot of responsibility to make sure that these projects are actually finished you were glossing over some of the most extreme examples really where this resulted in damage it resulted in death but are there other communities around the u.s.
11:52 pm
where they're just showing minor signs and these people are screaming out for help saying can we please stop this before it's too late well some of these exam examples alone are from a couple of years ago. from earlier this month right now as you and i sit here people who live in portage wisconsin small city some of those neighborhoods are islands right now the flooding has gotten so bad not because it rained too much it rained a little but the levee system there is one hundred twenty years old and simply it's failed why would a one hundred twenty year old levee system not have been repaired over and over again to a point i mean we've got amazing technology right now it seems a little crazy that neighborhoods are literally standing on the tops of their houses right now surrounded by water another example as you saw in my report the san francisco bay bridge those repairs the first crack was found when they were doing minor repairs on labor day weekend guess what when they found that crack the bridge had to be closed down for several days there are
11:53 pm
a quarter million people who use that bridge every day imagine that we're not talking about a longer commute to work we're talking about no way to get to work for people who do. every job for menial jobs to the most important jobs as you said this is america when you can't get to work because your infrastructure is poor that doesn't sound like america that's a like a for world country i mean but you know there in lies the difficulty in this situation too is the route i point is if you want to fix something well you have to shut down the city and it's going to take a lot of time and it's going to take a lot of manpower and barack obama himself has been you know talking about updating our outdated infrastructure system but people are screaming why don't we have jobs already them that's because you know these projects take a long time to plan but it's the things that need to be taken care of thanks so much for being here. our before we go it's time for our tweet of the day california republican candidate for governor meg whitman is under fire for allegedly having an

illegal immigrant as her maid for nine years now meg isn't a major supporter of illegals in the state of california and the maid said the conditions were horrible working for whitman who by the way has already spent one hundred twenty million dollars of her own money on this race so we were thinking what would the immigrant community tweet to make and we thought they'd say something like this you hate immigrants unless they're cleaning your toilet washing your underwear and cooking your meals vote no on meg and just remember meg immigrants are one of the largest voting blocs in california that's it for tonight's show thanks for tuning in and make sure you come back tomorrow we're going to have one of the founders of the popular web site text from last night dot com if you haven't been to the site yet you should go it's disturbing and hilarious all in one but is it all real well we're going to find out tomorrow and don't miss django of the young turks who also have a show now in the meantime don't forget to become a fan of the facebook and follow us on twitter and if you missed any of tonight's show or any other nights you can always catch it all the you tube dot com slash the
