and i really want to know has it always been like this and certainly the element of candidates wanting to seem relatable to make voters think you know i can relate to this person you think back to nixon and the checkers speech this was a huge success for him but they haven't always been this ridiculous and more importantly they haven't always been candidates playing down their experience for the job that they're trying to get so i wanted to make it sarcastic and make it funny so that's why i did yeah i was i mean it's one thing you know it's just incredible to me that now playing dumb is what they choose to do but tell me this to mean you've been covering politics for all you've been a reporter is also the most vicious campaign season you've had because we have the stupid ads on one hand and then we just have the really just plain crazy ones insane ads i don't i can't really sit here and tell you that this is more or less vicious than other seasons certainly every campaign season we see some crazy stuff get put on television especially when we're talking about presidential elections in
11:31 pm
the primaries candidates you know unleash it all however i think with certainly the influence of the tea party the playing off the anger i know in an earlier segment you were just talking about the anger that glenn beck sort of incites in people i think people are really taking it one step further in terms of what they feel at liberty to put out there i just don't remember when we saw the demon sheep and and puppy killers give me a break a killer most disturbing definitely crazy times they're living in christine thanks so much. all right after the break we're going to look at the rise of the right in the u.s. and across europe tea party candidates across the u.s. have a spouse to general discussed for immigrants especially muslims so does their hate have anything to do with the burqa ban in france or the inciting hate trial of wilders in the netherlands we'll have michael moynihan from reason magazine on all of that we get back.
11:32 pm
seven thirty am in moscow good to have you with us here on our t.v.'s here headline the french government stands firm on its plan to raise the retirement age is violent protests an industrial action paralyzed the country unions say around three million people took to the streets energy supplies have also been hit in france to import electricity. and there are more protests this time in london after the u.k. government announced the biggest reduction in public spending since the second world war almost five hundred thousand public sector jobs will go along with multi-billion pound cuts to the defense budget the aim is to reduce record debts that swelled during the global financial crisis that some economists are saying the cuts should have gone even deeper. and a deadly show of loyalty to the terror attack on the chechen parliament on tuesday may have been a pledge of allegiance to al qaida according to the republic's interior ministry
11:33 pm
three people died seventeen were injured when four terrorists tried to seize the government building and that's it for this hour's headlines back now to part two of the alone a show for a look at the rise and fall right sentiment sweeping through the u.s. and european politics that's coming your way next stay with us. well it's time for tonight's tool time award and our winner is the republican party chair from virginia beach dave bartholomew now dave is just the latest in a string of republicans to get in trouble for sending out absurdly racist e-mails see dave for a long email to some of his buddies which compared african-americans to dogs and i told the story it told the story of a dog trying to get welfare and one line of it said so i explained to her that my dog is black unemployed lazy can't speak english and has no frickin clue who his daddy is that was in the actual email i'm not exaggerating any of the words there
11:34 pm
now don't worry dave's friends of course are rushing to his defense they promise he isn't racist but dave's own excuse that just might be the best of all he claims hey guys it was the ninety's he was just learning how to use the whole crazy internet thing so he didn't know what he was doing give him a break but he has love how he makes it seem normal like everybody must afford around a few disgustingly racist emails or from some friends back in the day because it was the ninety's everyone was confused about the internet now talking points memo spoke with vicki wilson a legislative director for virginia beach republican congressman who said that politicians really need to think before they send e-mails and you know maybe all this technology is in some cases a really bad thing and you know when it comes to spreading fear and hate via chain mails nobody does a better than the g.o.p. like that whole ballance of muslim rumor wonder how they start so maybe maybe dave should take responsibility for the hateful things he's sending out e-mails instead
11:35 pm
of trying to blame evil technology or his inability to use it the e-mail in itself is disgusting enough but his pathetic excuse might actually be even worse and that's why dave bartholomew is tonight's tool time winner. now here on the show we have discussed the tea party at length the supposedly grassroots movement it turns out which is really being funded by some of the wealthiest donors here in the u.s. we've seen the g.o.p. trying to jump on its coattails and ride them to the midterm elections but some of the tea party candidates and supporters are taking a turn to the hard right to the extremes or even the average g.o.p. or won't go in our recent weeks we've seen this rhetoric heating up just this week alaska republican senate nominee joe miller was asked about illegal immigration at a town hall meeting and his response was pretty shocking take a listen. with me.
11:36 pm
we. suggest things that we should set up a border like east and west germany had during the cold war does joe even know his facts on this case was in east germany trying to keep presidents from fleeing to west germany do we really want a military zone on our borders now my next example of the rise of the tea party and their hardline rhetoric comes from sharon angle she is running neck and neck with senate majority leader harry reid in nevada and she could easily windex month but listen to her comments on a radio show about what will happen if republicans don't win in november. q are you satisfied with. air. power that is where it. was. actually you know.
11:37 pm
everybody here. is british he's going away to get to see what really. was. basically we turn to the end of. the day here yes. so is sharon advocating for the assassination of senator reid if he wins on november second or is she calling for a revolution so my question is sharon a simple what happens when somebody in the tea party fires off a shot of a politician or you have blood on your hands now our last example of hate and fear mongering in the tea party comes from new york governor candidate carl palatino see over the last several months he's led the charge to stop a planned mosque and islamic cultural center from being built just a few blocks away from ground zero to listen to carl pitch his idea of stopping the mosque to voters and that there are two major candidates for governor of new york
11:38 pm
career politician andrew cuomo and businessman carl palatino cuomo supports the construction of a one hundred million dollar islamic mosque in the shadow of ground zero palatino says a mosque makes a mockery of those who died there and carl pelletier not as governor i will use the power of eminent domain to stop the mask and use the site as a war memorial instead of a monument to those who attacked our country the choices so voters on november second please take a long hard look at who we are voting for because this may be one of the most critical elections in our history. now on that note america isn't the only place that seeing this shift to the right you know almost to make remains rhetoric in the states in europe that's actually turning to actual far right parties are gaining power in sweden denmark austria the netherlands and england we've seen the formation of the english defense league and the uniting factor amongst all these parties for the most part is enough specifically anti muslim
11:39 pm
sentiment another disturbing development was a poll that came out last week in which thirteen percent of germans said that they would welcome the arrival of a new fuehrer the term for a leader which is explicitly associated with out of hitler now we've seen these far right sentiments before especially in troubling economic times but if you look back to the twenty's and the thirty's well that's exactly what allowed hitler to gain power for fascism to sweep a number of countries so how far could it go this time and is the tea party the american example of europe's right wing blogs here to discuss it with me is michael moynihan senior editor of reason magazine and reason dot com michael nice to have you back on the show it's been a while he's been there you spent a lot of time in europe you've lived in europe tell me this i mean is this something you know something that is associated only with those really on the fringes and now it's just somehow creeping towards the center or is this just been a repressed feeling that's always there you know it's a confusing answer but it's a little of both actually there is
11:40 pm
a fringe element english defense league as you mention in the intro is a fringe element you see a lot of guys with shaved heads of the hoodies on a very violent group they've had punch ups in the us but we also have a lot of people that are you know you mentioned in sweden there is a percent of the six percent percent of the voters voted for sweden sweden democrats are very far right party that has roots in the old multi movement but you know there's a getting a lot of defection from left wing parties actually from people that were you know social democrats labor type people going to the english defense league british national party in sweden because the reason being and this is what actually separates it quite is biggs separation between. the nice parties and the tea parties is that they're actually welfare state parties they're pretty left wing and when it comes to economic ideology but they think that this their welfare state is being strained by immigration now the other thing that one has to actually you know why this is happening right now is is there an uptick in sort of immigrant violence i think yes but primarily it is
11:41 pm
a backlash against not being able to talk about these issues like sweden again a country that i lived in an example that no one would touch this issue as a radioactive issue nobody is going to touch immigration and if they do they know that they're going to have to fend off charges of racism so what ends up happening is they see this ground to extremist parties and extremist parties get small kind of baby steps and they go from a half a percent to actually being represented in parliament in sweden they've passed the five percent threshold in there now actually in parliament we have are slowly inching their way in but it's a hard thing to say that you know a lot of this is of an anti immigrant feeling because they're the they're sapping up of the welfare state but a lot of it is directly addressed towards the muslim population specifically the specific that muslim populations and why is that you know is that and you know an anti terror development because of this war on terror i mean let's say nine eleven never happened would the muslim population still be the victim here well i mean look this is this is something that happened in the ninety's to before nine eleven
11:42 pm
. it's mostly focused on muslims because muslims are mostly immigrants in northern europe the immigration flows in northern europe were from finland to norway and norway to sweden and swedes going down to denmark for a better job and the cultural kind of crash that is happening right now amongst muslims in say france or in places in northern europe is very alien very new to europe i mean this is not something that we've dealt with in this country for many many years we still have a long way to go we still have a lot of growing but this is a very very new thing this is why you have nicolas sarkozy you know waging war against the roma and. and friends. says that multicultural news failed in germany how do you see culturalism work sure could you also say that this is the result of a failed if they don't know how to integrate these populations in a positive way well that's it i mean that's one hundred percent and what angela merkel was saying was not that multiculturalism has failed in the sense that we shouldn't have two cultures next week she said but the etiology of multicultural
11:43 pm
which meant that you know we will you know allow these people have their own culture we want to we won't force them into speaking german in this case and that's made made these sort of ghettos outside of the cities in berlin and chords bird and in france the region around the city which is which is you know a lower class immigrant ghettos and who's to blame for that well i mean they want to go around and the government has kind of get a wise them and so the response to that from the voters is saying that look these are very violent places out there the risk to the solution of this is to get rid of or not to have any more of you think i mean to you it's easy to say the sermon is to get rid of it it's much more you actually apply that so how far do you think that this can go because honestly i mean this is you know a lot of this anger often comes out in times of economic turmoil of course and if you do look back to the twenty's to the thirty's i mean do you think that if you go that far now in that we can see this new no new era of fashion i don't mean europe i don't look we had the far right party and austria freedom party won i mean this is alarming twenty percent of the vote in vienna and in vienna it used to be called
11:44 pm
the red social democratic stronghold so we are seeing people in times of desperation going to parties that are further right but there aren't there isn't a groundswell like there was nine hundred twenty s. which was a bifurcated fight between communist extreme on the left and nazis in germany scream the right nothing like that to the very quickly just one last question i said you know the reason that they differ from the tea party is because well tea party i guess you know because they are fiscally conservative but in terms of this this hateful xeno phobic islamophobia rhetoric are they parallels. i don't know i mean the tea party the. party rallies here in washington and most of the issues that i talk to people about are are economic issues and you see that as kind of a libertarian conservative uniting i do see some talk about traditional cultural conservative things or traditional things like like immigration it's not as i was but again it's a fringe there's not actually starting to grow
11:45 pm
a little bit you know i mean now they're making ties between the english defense league of the tea party and the pamela geller is and i hear that you know it's those kind of people that. are scary yes that michael thank you so much i recently are there's just one more segment left on tonight's show several universities across the country are prohibiting immigrant students when are rolling in classes unless they have the proper documents so listen time to take matters into your own hands just punish children rather than address the real problem we're going to be after the break. today. these are the images the world has been seeing from the streets of canada. operations throughout the day.
11:46 pm
it's the secret incursion into the country. it's the invasion by means of. tradition the language. this deep deep. beat. and culture. the have the germans are still unaware of what's going on in their mind still ask them what. it's like. i don't know but. the great. an arch. the official location. called touch from the.
11:47 pm
light on the. video. smiling. and omissions feed now with the palm of your. the entire world was fixated on the story of the ny russian spies who were commie us and sent back to russia it was more than just a good story the redheaded bombshell anna chapman singlehandedly won the hearts of men all around the world when chapman was so back to moscow america made her promise not to use her sexy image for again i just love that dear hot spot i please don't use your assets to make money as if they have any way of really and forcing that so now shockingly anna seems to be breaking her promise apparently the rules don't apply to russia because she has not stopped using her sex appeal to make some serious money since she landed she's been spotted next to putin she just received
11:48 pm
awards from president with the aid of and best of all she recently posed in a very sexy spread for russia's maxim magazine. now in an interesting twist she's back in the u.s. not literally but she's made an app for an american based poker company so in the app you can see an address in a very sexy spy like outfit black leather on a gun every man's wet dream right well the app poker with anna chapman comes from a company based in illinois so when users by it they get access to her personal blog and their friend did by her on facebook like they're really friend touching so with all the high profile activities or jobs she's got going on i think one thing is for sure anna chapman is not going to lay low anytime soon but i'm going to say that anna actually won this round yeah she got caught you got kicked out of the u.s. but she's a good looking woman who clearly follows the motto that if you've got it flaunt it on the world seems to be dealt with that. now it's been
11:49 pm
a little while since we've addressed the immigration battle in this country well that does not mean that it stopped the dream act failed to get passed before the midterm elections the prospects for comprehensive immigration reform seem miles away the government has done nothing but don't think that we've reached back nation quite the opposite of some states are deciding to take the fight into their own hands so are universities just last week georgia's university system voted to ban undocumented students from rolling into five of the most prestigious state colleges this summer south carolina became the first state to bar undocumented students from all public colleges and universities arizona colorado georgia and oklahoma have all refused in-state tuition benefits to students that are on document now just ten years ago this trend was going in the exact opposite direction so what happens if this trend now continues and undocumented students become blocked from our educational system on all levels is it going to solve the immigration problem or is
11:50 pm
it only going to make it worse will join me to discuss it has told you all and we. excuse me public policy consultant for the dream act campaign and bob david director of communications for fair the federation for american immigration reform want to thank you both for being here sorry about the last name happens to me all the time to you with the russian lames tell me for is why should undocumented students people who are here illegally be allowed to attend american universities ok. well i guess let's start with what's. behind it see tuitions benefits are. in-state tuition is a credit to. have our long term residence of a particular state and it's a way to credit them for their past contributions to the state and they're like we future contributions to states because most of the time these people end up do you stay in the same say that they graduate from but if we make it larger and it's not just about in-state tuition. you know if you look at georgia which is this is
11:51 pm
something that really bothers me about their entire process and how they went about it is because they got the regions together under the guise that the foreign undocumented students who were there were in the thousands in their university system they were you know using state benefits for their tuition but it turns out there's only five hundred of them and they're all out of state tuition so they're all paying out of state tuition so to me really this whole thing was kind of based on a lie but still the broader picture is you know why should these people it doesn't matter if they're paying or not if they're not legal why should they go to school here but we're looking at students that grew up in the u.s. they were brought here as children and have been long term residents of the state you know we in the u.s. allow our our population and educate through twelve education and then when it's ready when they're ready to go to college we now say hey wait a minute you know we know that a college graduate and sixty percent more than
11:52 pm
a high school graduate so why would we not let these students continue their life in the u.s. and be fully contributing taxpayers bob why wouldn't we let these people be taxpayers continue their life in the us become educated have the chance to get a real job provide for their family to integrate into american society well remember first plyler versus doe. did require that all school systems give all legal alien children the right to a paid education we have already paid k. through twelve education for illegal aliens what we're talking about the broad sense whether it's at the local level or at the national level is the dream act providing incentives for illegal aliens to go to school and what you've got i mean you mentioned it earlier harry reid tried to get the dream act put on to the defense authorization bill just before congress adjourns in this thing has been kicked around for the last ten years it is a massive amnesty bill. disguised as an educational initiative we would be giving
11:53 pm
away college tuition slots there's only so many we're not making new ones loans grants and scholarships to illegal aliens at the expense of us residents and that's fundamentally unfair i mean think about it if you're a mom or a dad of legal u.s. resident and your kid's a real go getter and you're struggling to get that kid in college were the dream act to be passed you'd be looking at millions of new students who would be competing for those positions the slots in the financial aid intuition but there has to be competition good isn't that what america is all around no i don't think you know it's fantastic but i want to know if you have any you know are going to compete yeah but you know if you actually have. several points there the dream is tough but there it is a solution that would help i'm documented immigrant students that have lived in the u.s. and we are talking not about millions of students we're talking about talking about an eight hundred thousand students that were also made to benefit from. from the
11:54 pm
dream act and we're talking about students that must have come here while they were very young children have lived in the country for at least five years have a good mark character graduate high school are taking it easy going to college or join the military before they can actually i would say i would agree with you on one point i think there is a population of illegal alien children who were brought here through no fault of their own and the they don't know any other country they have a simulated they speak english but here's here's the issue read the fine print a little truth in labeling here the dream act allows amnesty a green card in-state tuition up to the thirty five why is that important because by our calculation that covers almost fifty three percent of the illegal alien population in this country not only the kids who utilize the dream act but there.
11:55 pm
was. once you get your green card if you go to college for two years you serve in the military you not only get a diploma you get a green card and then you're able to petition all of your relatives will be there you don't really know you remember that is if you're serving for this country should you not be allowed to get a green card i mean the dream act the dream act didn't pass we don't know if the dream act ever is going to pass perhaps it needs to be rewritten i don't want to go into the details of it but it's it's the fundamentals it's the fact that these are people living here in this country you know if they if we create a second class of citizens that are not privy to the education system not privy to the opportunities and everyone else's that it drowns the whole country drops absolutely and at no point in our history has it ever been a bad idea to educate any segment of our population even though some extremist groups at different points in our history have tried to say that you know we look at bear who has been labeled as an extremist group extremist group by the southern poverty the children are you. going to say you have said you might not have the
11:56 pm
extremist groups be the ones deciding our immigration policy or any policy for that matter the dream act is something that seventy percent of the american public support sixty percent of republicans support it we have conservative leaders that has that support the dream act general colin powell we have former governor huckabee we have faith groups educate education groups that are all in lock so what is it about it that's holding him back i mean how do you feel about calling it extreme being called an extremist organization well you know i think when you're looking using the when you're losing the argument you simply resort to tactics by using labels like a racist and extremist let's focus on the i don't think he's losing but the dream act is losing so tell me exactly dream and who is working against that if the majority of americans can in fact support what the majority of americans do not support a path to citizenship which is really you know why because the amnesty is fundamentally unfair to those who have who have come here illegally it rewards those who have broken the law which the dream act would most certainly do it. they were going to
11:57 pm
remove the movie ok went on yet you made the same point earlier after he's holding . himself there are some of the american opinion if you're going to call me fair our position in sixty five percent of the american people who opposed the dream act extremist but you were ninety percent of the center of this. regime at because we are all about educating our pro our population protecting the most vulnerable among this and increasing our tax base this is what the dream act does it does not cost us money it makes us money the dream act would allow the cream of the crop cream of the crop of students in our education system currently to gain a college diploma or serve honorably in our military for a path to citizenship that is in no way a giveaway the dream act is tough and fair and addresses a situation that is not addressed currently immigration so there is definitely is a large situation that isn't being addressed where the government that is
11:58 pm
immigration and so we need comprehensive immigration reform but i don't understand when we first cities are going to achieve by just blocking we don't rant against an immigration reform it is it is a synonym for amnesty what we need is continued border enforcement serious terrorism where there is a lot of people who are here millions of them for years and i know what i'm going to read you clearly see the debate thank you guys thank you all right before we go it's time for a tweet of the day today the bankrupt web domain sex dot com sold to a caribbean corporation for thirteen million dollars so we're wondering what with pope benedict tweet about the sale we thought he'd say damn i was planning on buying it from the kids i know that was a love story ok that's a person i'd show thanks for tuning in make sure you guys come back tomorrow to hear from jones a former cia agent being sued by the cia for publishing a book critical of the agency and we in time don't forget to become a fan of the alone a show on facebook and follow us on twitter and tell us on twitter what you think of our new look i know you guys are going to miss the magical thing or point as
