11:31 pm
is going to. be free. all the time for tonight's tool time segment and we're giving it to everyone's favorite fearmonger glenn beck has now decided to jump into the t.s.a.
11:32 pm
uproar over the pat downs at the airports but as usual that has a very different view on the whole issue he says that all the passengers complaining about those pat downs about the verbal harassment well they're only going to drive the security workers to. search for union representatives and yes by the way the t.s.a. is currently being courted by several unions but back went even further saying that obama maybe unionizing the t.s.a. maybe that's what he wants to do in order to create his own private army. wanted to really have a security force. wouldn't a unionized t.s.a. under the umbrella of homeland security be the best thing i mean why you start to hold new security force when you already have one it's called the department of homeland security. yes glad obama is going to create his own private army and then he's going to rule the world the way he is already the leader of the free world he
11:33 pm
already commands the u.s. military the largest in the world so why the hell does he need a private army not to mention have you heard the reports about how poorly trained the t.s.a. agents are how they're rushed through how they don't get to work on proper proper monitoring equipment i mean that's not who i would recruit as my personal army but let to ever get tired of scaring everybody about obama staging a worldwide takeover i understand that you and fox news have to gin up stories to scare people to get them to watch but it's the holidays can't we all just get along for a few days when that tonight's top time whatever saying that obama is going to unionize the t.s.a. to make them his own private army. and sticking with the t.s.a. story here is another reason why you may not want them protecting you the agency is hiring and you'd think that in these tough economic times finding qualified workers would be easy. apparently though it's not besides placing job ads online and in newspapers the t.s.a.
11:34 pm
is now branching out and putting their ads on pizza boxes i'm not making that up the t.s.a. decided to target a very specific demographic in the washington d.c. area by placing ads on pizza boxes so pizza eaters now make really good t.s.a. screeners those are the qualifications for patting people down aggressively for looking for dangerous objects now the pizza box ad says career or x. ray vision and federal benefits come standard are now available at washington dulles international and reagan national airport sadly this also is not the only creative place the t.s.a. is looking for employees they've placed the same ads on gas pumps around d.c. virginia and maryland and the ads are only looking for part time help but in this economy i guess a jobs job right but again our gas pumps and pizza boxes are really a place to be advertising for t.s.a. jobs this is your hard turn hard earned tax dollars at work people now tell me if you feel any safer. on september twenty fourth of this year f.b.i.
11:35 pm
raided the homes of fourteen peace activists in minneapolis and chicago under the claims that they were searching for possible material support to terrorist organizations they seized computers cell phones boxes of documents and other personal possessions all part of the investigation but in the end no arrests are made and the f.b.i. said that there was no imminent danger to the public no imminent danger of course other than what many saw as an assault on activists and on their constitutional rights so now a coalition of forty five civil rights human rights peace and environmental groups have all mounted a campaign to press congress for an investigation of federal law enforcement conduct conduct that they feel appears to be targeting legitimate political speech and assembly to intimidate harass and discourage activists from exercising their rights so earlier i caught up with shahid of director of the bill of rights defense
11:36 pm
committee and one of the authors of this letter which is addressed to president obama attorney general eric holder as well senators harry reid and nancy pelosi now in the letter which are rights of the attorney general's guidelines that govern f.b.i. activities have been steadily wrote it to eliminate those protections put in place that were supposed to rein in the abuses in the first place so i asked him first to give me some specifics and whether or not all of those erosions occurred post nine eleven. some of it actually creates nine eleven guidelines which were the first set of attorney general guidelines implemented in one nine hundred seventy six after the church committee had uncovered thousands of pages about f.b.i. abuses during the cold until pro era since one nine hundred seventy six there have been a series of revisions that have happened since nine eleven which particularly watered down those protections were in two thousand and three under then attorney general john ashcroft and then most recently in two thousand and eight and you're attorney general michael and it's
11:37 pm
a big. those revisions in particular that for instance allow the use of the right assessments. investigative tier to investigate allegations where there is no factual predicate or investigation which is to say to investigate potential future crimes and it's from that mandate that a lot of these problems stem well tell me this i mean the raids happened and i have time but i was acting as if so why did you wait until now until i guess you know and write this letter asking for an investigation to be launched for you waiting for those forty five other you know rights groups to get behind you on that one that was a piece of it and in fact we've actually been raising attention to these policy issues even before the raids going back to july so you know we've basically since september. been reaching out to other groups that haven't been to the sets of issues and to be frank that particular reason why we waited until the most recent release was we were waiting for the activists who were subpoenaed in september to
11:38 pm
basically be called again to this house that by about a month before the midterm elections the justice department essentially suspended the subpoenas and more recently decided to reinitiate and pursue the grand jury testimony of the people who were subpoenaed back in september now you are you also mentioned in your letter that the timing of these raids in september were of concern for you because they were it all happened so quickly to midterm elections so do you think that this is something they specifically did in order to you know intimidate activists or that they wouldn't vote. i've i've fear of that possibility but i think it's more likely the case that the holder justice department and the obama administration wanted not to quite frankly annoy its grassroots progressive anti-war base and so rather than using these raids as a way to intimidate voters i think they basically suspended the subpoenas after
11:39 pm
they were initially issued to keep people from going to the party to keep people from deciding not to vote if that makes any sense i mean whether you whether you frame it as intimidating voters or suspending charges in northern not to discourage voters from voting either way that's politicisation and as we've learned under attorney general alberto gonzales the department of justice is susceptible to being politicized and that is a particular danger especially when you talk about executive branches that are prone to aggrandize their powers and disregard their constitutional checks and balances now do you think that this is something that's happening on all levels to this politicization not only you know when it comes to perhaps anti-war activists you can talk about whistleblowers his yesterday we were discussing how they're you know the cases are also piling up journalists and that being arrested perhaps at protests that they're covering and they might be getting something on camera that the police don't like. that's certainly a problem you know just to point to another one that also indicates politicization
11:40 pm
there was a recent news story about the justice department declining to initiate prosecution of the person who were cia officials who were destroyed videotaped evidence of torture and the justice department's recurring willingness to look the other way on human rights abuses and offer to justice when the people who are accused of very grave crimes are politically connected powerful senior ormer and current officials i think that is another area in which the department of justice is operations unfortunately reek of the same politicization that we've seen in a prior era is. and i think you're right that this problem unfortunately is happening across several continents yeah and we we in fact you know covered that story as well and spoke with the a.c.l.u. when it turns out of the justice department they don't want to press criminal charges because the cia tapes had been destroyed but one of the things that i also noticed in your letter that you wrote to president barack obama to attorney general eric holder nancy pelosi harry reid as that you know you're
11:41 pm
a cautioning this administration not to become like those of the past perhaps you know who have histories of grand juries harassing activists but do you think that it's a little too late i mean have they already set that type of record for themselves. unfortunately i fear that at least for the first two years of the administration you're right that record has been set but there are another two years left and i think that it is not too late for this administration to sensually make good on its campaign promises to restore the rule of law it was a big part of the president's platform when he was campaigning for the white house i think a great many of the people who voted or answered for his candidacy and supported his campaign did so because they saw in the possibility of a constitutional law professor stepping into the white house the opportunity to scale back the aggrandizement of executive power to restore the civil liberties that were or routed by the bush administration and for better or quite frankly i'd
11:42 pm
say much worse this administration has continued many of those bush era abuses and in fact even compound it in some of the ways that we're observing right now you could say compounded them you could say expanded them and you know i think that's part of the reason why people are so outraged when they do feel like barack obama a constitutional law professor is somebody who well isn't really abiding by the constitution so i feel like the outrage there is completely necessary and founded so i guess we'll have to wait and see if congress actually listens to your demands for investigation here thanks so much for joining us. thanks so much for having me . well still to come on tonight's show could the catholic church finally be moving into the twenty first century the pope is causing some major headlines adverse comments about condom use we're going to give you more on that we come back and it's now in bookstores and nation wide sarah palin's a latest work on how she views the country for to discuss the book with comedian

coverage. former cuban leader fidel castro wrote i severely critical article over the weekend about the nato summit and specifically about president barack obama in this article castro says that nato is a military mafia and aggressive institution which ignores billions of person who suffer from extreme poverty hunger education and jobs but in light of obama's presence at nato discussing the war in afghanistan castro desire to say that obama deserves an award. being the best snake charmer that ever lived and you know i think that i actually may have been in agreement with castro here with this whole snake charmers comment how he said it grabs two years ago i mean come on i don't see obama as snake charming anybody these days are you guys europeans are fed up with his war policies asia isn't signing on to trade deals and has anybody told
11:45 pm
fidel about obama's terrible approval ratings at home these days it's now at thirty nine percent according to a new zogby poll that is the lowest number that obama's had yet and yes obama did go to nato defending the u.s. mission in afghanistan but doesn't mean that nato really agreed with america's current agenda abroad so if you tell come on oh i ask is can you please get with the times because i don't know who obama's charming these days that effect seems to have worn off a very very long time ago for everyone except maybe a few white house staffers. pope benedict wanted to kick start a debate the mission is accomplished the pope has said that condom use may be justified in special circumstances such as that of male prostitutes seeking protection from hiv or aids the pope made the statements during conversations with a german journalist there's now been compiled into a book that was released today but today the vatican came out making a correction of the pope's statement adding that in fact his comments about condom
11:46 pm
use also apply to women her own but just the hint of a change on condom policy really began raising a lot of hopes for people but the church might start you know backing away from its r. take its harmful condom ban for its flock of one billion followers worldwide in the interview the pope said that some people such as prostitutes using condoms for them could be assuming moral responsibility because the intent was to reduce infecting your sexual partners however he still hasn't suggested using condoms as birth control which the church still formally bans now as most people know the debate in the catholic church about changing the ban on condoms has been raging for years one vatican official even said that he believes the pope just decided to do it to get a debate going but that of course the catholic church so that their stance had in fact changed despite the pope's comments i'm confused here in fact the church rush to assure the world that no in fact they are not moving into the twenty first century meaning and they're still opposed to casual sex whether it's right or
11:47 pm
sexual or homosexual and they're still opposed to artificial contraception you know when i first saw the story i was kind of tempted to give the vatican and the pope a little bit of credit for getting with the times but it turns out well they're still living in the stone age and all making meager attempts to connect with modern day society so just make up your mind guys please you're either sticking with your are fair girls or you're not don't try to straddle some ambiguous middle ground it's not working. now the day that we have all been waiting for it's finally here sarah palin's book america by heart reflections on family faith and flack has had short store shelves and i'm totally kidding we haven't really been waiting for it because we're so excited to read it it's just you know maybe make a little bit of fun of it if you're going to be in the spotlight people are going to make fun of you and the entire pailin brood well they've been creating plenty of headlines lately but since i'm so nice i want
11:48 pm
a comedian seen smith make all the jokes really you would know how to do such a sweet heart what if i like the book i could hear you just above the level i think is the greatest read since you could love we're still a comedian you're not funny or you're just failing your job come on i just look as good as you said by the door all right well it's nice to see you again by the way but a while yeah you know this is this is such big news that we had to bring you in on the writing of the days that a friday was a rough scene delivery exactly so my thanksgiving read right here i don't really know where to begin with this because there's so much to discuss but i love because he looks like a mystery writer on the cover you know i feel like she's going to solve something really totally i mean she has really think glasses on because it makes her smart kind of like a young angeles very you know i just feel like people just die rather consciously even though it's not every episode she's goes sometimes people die i'm sorry. well i get oh that's funny that you mention something dying around her because for my icebreaker i picked out the perfect clip from her show the other night to
11:49 pm
a play that really quick. yes. it. was like. that make you hungry for hal of it i mean i did. they bring it to death she makes it tender all right this is actually how they also make. was that there was that calf that nobody like sees the what it was like how nobody likes to eat you know he's keeping the cable veal that's a you got to beat it to make it tender i like that i like what you have like i mean i think how that's kind of good but i want it to be. specially sarah palin made in america by heart in the name of her book which i don't tell me you think because i mean she implying that this is all heart no brain involved in the writing process i really honestly think it is she has absolutely no brain and i'm not talking bad i
11:50 pm
mean i'm not i'm not saying she's stupid as to how the little phrase like i mean my little inch of rain she's not to see exactly saying brain filled stuff in there is not exactly coming up with the economic policy that will solve the world she has no did she just saying her biggest point in there is that you think knocked up is one of the best movies of two thousand and eight this is your next president everybody yalit is the person you want to vote for this person bring american values knocked up and you know all right knocked abs you know you've got forty year old virgin or fairly virtually every louise that anything the hollywood puts out that might be slightly critical of the war in iraq which there obviously when she was talking about the hurt locker well that's just a no go to say i'll say this is this is just like literally this is a blog this is a this is a blog entry is going to sell two million copies and i'm just because i want to write a blog i've written a blog nobody saw it nobody read it i told people everybody i tell anybody i want hey i think it was really good commie. sorry i mean you have it i that it was a good but i hate what you say are you i'm a fan of you because you are a fan of her because she's telling drivel she's like an old version of lindsay
11:51 pm
lohan she's making so much money she's amazing i'm just. what i do my wife everybody i don't know what i'm doing this is disgusting to say would you actually vote for her because she's so. taining to the point where it's just depressing no i mean i would vote for her because of the point i'm not important but some arrogance actually are planning for voting for exactly what coats it is important michigan is important i will d.c. black person is not important important to her little big scheme of things why she clearly knows you know where but i think that sarah palin is a very divisive figure and she's deaf and one of those people that you either love or you hate you know there's really no in between with her i mean it's very clear if you look at the places where she's going on her book tour in order to promote your skin to the south the sad well southwest the midwest where she's skipping basically every every major city she's not going to new york she's not going to l.a. she's not going to seattle or san francisco because those are a little too liberal so if you scare the liberal crowds are going to come out for a book signing i think i mean yes which is weird because there's
11:52 pm
a lot of crazy conservatives there there linger and all those cities are absolutely there's also a lot of gays you know should i stay with you know oh i think that's just me you're probably right she's even right there in the book this is a forget that that was really for which i'm going to get out of your third book and this could be you sell also three me copies i hate you sarah palin you're so. let's see of do you hate on her daughter as well because this is a thing that i found funny was that sarah palin in the book was kind of you know she's talking about american idol contest and saying that their talent depraved although then. they go up in this world where they think that anybody can be like a michael jackson and simon callow is the only one that offers any truth meanwhile bristol palin is on dancing with the stars. a lot of people don't think that she ever deserved to make it to the finals because she sucks and yet she doesn't think her daughter suffers from the exact same syndrome whatever you want to call it she you know she did talk about you talk about j.f.k. said that he would get his morals i could you imagine j.f.k. i don't know what the ok to say you know my point is what would j.f.k.
11:53 pm
came out with a book saying i don't really appreciate american idol's. principles that the simon cowell is a really guy just is amazing to me just that this yes nobody ever does make it hard to take or serious right because he's writing about simon towel and american idol and taking his marriage are necessary part everybody taking it seriously midwest in the south thinks she's a brilliant person is going to save america because she has a strong opinion about american idol yes i think bristol palin is absurd to me i do know you're about to think she's actually says death threats right now absolutely a.b.c. had have beef up the security on the show her la t.v. life movie is going to be amazing because i just made him in a movie where she was like getting up in the bathroom mirror so the same thing with her all you know it would be like malcolm x. maybe that last scene with a guy was yelling don't hand out my pocket that's going to happen it's going to do or last dance if you like what's my vote some of the popular she's going to die as sounds like you're ready to write that book and i can't wait ok it was just
11:54 pm
something that is very quickly what do you think i mean if god forbid something happens where sarah palin does actually win the presidency in two thousand and twelve and what is that america going to look like. it's going to be the best reality show every created because that's what that's what fox is going to be she's going to bring them into the white house and just you know i really think the entire presidency now is just really documented on reality t.v. hilarious that she just turns out to be the most ultra liberal ever i think that's what i was going to happen i mean she's just come in the white house and they want obama every first day of office he had that first meeting and it's he's got really white he turns to like i think that's an average going to come out and come up with a black face just like oh my god i didn't know the problem was this big and she's going to be the most liberal president that's an interesting theory that she could put a bullet obama on as you know sellers off one way during the campaign or perhaps totally do a little switcheroo i'm not saying obama switched on the wrong hey black power i'm all about obama but i'm just saying that it could have been she could just be like you know i really believe that we should take over our car companies right now and make sure you know we put the good old alaska love in there and then also g.m.
11:55 pm
is selling smart cars. i really like their. intrigued by your theory i think that maybe it just might work but i guess that you and i should just hope that day never comes your paling does not become. the first woman president of the united states because that to me is the thing that i would just find really really upsetting the would be a bad day for women so unless you're going to use the law. all right before we go it's time for our to eat of the day and his new book released a few weeks ago former president bush said that his mother showed him a foetus in a jar when he was younger that she had aborted and that in fact shaped his views on abortion to last may in an interview with c.n.n. barbara bush said that she didn't show debbie the fetus housekeeper actually did and sorry that was a miscarriage not an abortion my bad so tonight what would george w. bush tweet about the conflicting story and we thought he say sorry wrong sure i was
