prosody the soviet union had when the nazis but the massacred twenty two thousand polish officers were killed by the direct order goes. back now to washington a pretty alone to show this time we take a look at the issue of respect for native americans after president obama declares the day after thanksgiving to be native american heritage day it's coming your way next. well it's time for tonight's tool time award and we're giving it to our favorite addict and talk show host rush limbaugh he blasted president obama for thanking the native americans during the white house's official thanksgiving proclamation now the conservative talk show host said that he was so shocked by obama's proclamation and his version of the holiday that he initially thought it was a prank the rush had a problem with obama thanking native americans who helped the early colonists survive rush claims that obama was calling the first settlers invaders which i'm sorry but that kind of work get over it not to mention i'm pretty sure that rush
11:31 pm
didn't have a problem with that in one nine hundred eighty one when the darling of the g.o.p. then president ronald reagan recalled the first thanksgiving and also gave thanks to the native americans for their rich history of helping the first settlers so was this all just a swipe at obama. not exactly rush decided to go even further by then attacking native americans take a listen. how many native americans only indians were killed. by the arrival of the white man through disease and war and how many people have died since the white man arrived here due to lung cancer thanks to the indian invented custom of smoking tobacco. who are the real killers here. yeah rush we do blame the indians for all the smoking deaths in the history of this country russia even asked where are our reparations now it should be pointed out
11:32 pm
the rush is an avid cigar smoker so he's probably just looking to line his own pockets but what a hypocrite not to mention a complete hater who are the real killers how do you sleep at night after saying things like that and that's just one of the many reasons the rush limbaugh is tonight's tool time winner for his of bigoted comments about native americans. now while everyone is reliving their thanksgiving feast or last night ragging about what was on the menu or indulging in leftovers maybe even talking about the two turkeys that barack obama pardoned on wednesday perhaps spending one little second deriding rush limbaugh for his comments there's an entire segment of the u.s. population that doesn't quite see the holiday in the same light the original settlers of this land the native americans november is native american heritage month and last year obama announced today the day after thanksgiving as native american heritage day but you're going to hear anybody talking about that well
11:33 pm
joining me to discuss it is one tate the chapter advisor for central texas american indian movement and the elder advisor for the santa barbara american indian movement wildly thank you so much for joining me now tell me you know while everyone else is celebrating thanksgiving and having their huge meals what does it mean to you and to you know the entire native american community. the original thanksgiving. it we could claim by any foreign government in this land was proclaimed in the sixteenth thirties i believe after the massacre. some seven hundred of our people who their village was surrounded. and then regarded to come out they were clubbed to death and they came out and then the men and children who remained in their buildings were burned to death the next day the governor. of that colony proclaimed entire thanksgiving that was the first things can be for people
11:34 pm
this country. and this proclamation of native american heritage day. to need is just a little bit hypocritical and cynical. and that this government since unsent its inception some two hundred thirty five years after its own intentions and the destruction. of our cultures of our languages. our legions. of our heritage do need would be reminiscent. of perhaps the leaving leader of the nazi party proclaiming a jewish heritage month and don't flock not one trying to destroy our people the two hundred thirty five years now why do you think that as more time goes on the more distorted this history will become or i don't you have any hope that perhaps at some point there's going to be a more honest more open discussion about this. well we hope we hope for an honest
11:35 pm
open discussion we hope the truth will come out to the american people so they can know the real history not to history their fed in these their silly school books. who talk about these wonderful pilgrims who came over here and they forget to say that they stole raped and murdered and killed to get in land to steal the land we hope that history gets talked. but i don't see very much evidence of it happening right now i see our heritage is still be being taken away and we are we have our traditional heritage's and the heritage is that it's forced upon us by the greater society of the dominant culture and our traditional heritage we love our mother earth. the dominant culture has forced on the sahara change of mountaintop removal mining what was our lands. and you mining on our lands they did a good they did a good thing and didn't and i had a mania mine to get the non native people. jobs working to mine course they forgot
11:36 pm
to give them protected breathing stuff so they wouldn't be poisoned now the mine is closed down and the not people who work to mines that die and kenyans these are the same people that not people in arizona twenty thousand of them have never had electricity in their lives on their land there's a power plant coal fired power plant pollutes their land and since you electricity to los vegas and los angeles you these are the types of things of the heritage that's forced upon us there's only there's only three million of us in this country so our voices are small because there are those of us who won't quit trying to bring the troops out and we're not trying to. mona bottom we're trying to get people to accept responsibility and hold up its things the wrong students in class and these treaties that were signed by our nations none of our people went to the u.s. government for treaties u.s.
11:37 pm
government came to us for treaties if you want to be broken we want to now why wait tell me how does it make you feel after you know we just talked about a story where rush limbaugh conservative radio host who is very popular in this country you know has a lot of influence is are ranting and raving angry at obama that he thought the thank native americans on faith in his thanksgiving proclamation and saying that. why people should deserve reparations because you indians essentially are to blame for anyone who dies of smoking in this country the art of our use of tobacco is tradition was tradition sacred use tobacco it wasn't use a bitch we are addicted to it was a sacred sacred right that's how we were taught to treat all things as moderation and reverence. the europeans turned it into a an addictive substance and it was quite exaction in europe once it was exported from here so i know russians of russia's rush you know who pays attention to
11:38 pm
somebody who would love their drugs more than your hearing who cares well tell me this very quickly because. he or he first of all is the one that last year announced native american heritage day as today the day after thanksgiving you know he held a meeting with tribal leaders at the white house and i think a lot of people in the native american community had hope what this president is any of that hope still there or hasn't disappeared by this point the hope is diminished greatly within thirty days of that hearing. look the i.r.s. confiscate twenty percent of the crow creek reservation land which by the way was land at the end to buy back from the government already because of damage done to their land on a dam project within thirty days. he settled forty billion dollars of theft by the us government from the trust fund which is trust monies held by the government on leases of our individual people's land they said they lost the forty
11:39 pm
billion dollars but he let his secretary of interior settle that forty billion dollar theft with three point five billion dollars so they walked away with over ninety percent to forty billion and they thought we should be appeased with that three and a half if you in this like somebody stealing forty of my horses and in pain impact three and a half and then you you're happy now right well there are some people who are happy because they see it is something is better than nothing that you know our people don't deserve to have to go around to the back door to the white house asked for little bits of what's been taken. our people deserve to have what is life only ours would be very disappointed and the president's failure not to sign the un declaration on the rights of indigenous people. in all this whole wonderful earth only one country has not signed this declaration and that one can't that is the
11:40 pm
united states as the united states along the way i want to i want to thank you very much for for joining us today that's all the time we have unfortunately by it's definitely you know this is the place to let your voice be heard thank you appreciate you so much. well still ahead tonight we have our friday fireside chats and then we're going to discuss several topics with georgetown professor christopher chambers a former high ranking member of congress is convicted but most of the mainstream media is part of the story and fox news can't tell real news from satire that's what i call them bears. the clues it seems to speak to the times. where rich academic life gives birth to innovative ideas. no argy goes to the area which together with boosting industrial development. offers to make

a journey into russia's history. and to enjoy birds and vivid cultural life. welcome to the param region in russia close up on our she. will come to the wisconsin t.v. experience with nobel prize it so people who are born fool spot it to the next time printed you are more expensive structures to get a microscopic make over and in tiny chip can take us a long way defeat of nato comes into focus. on technology update here on along we've got the future covered. seventy six hours of intense fighting. six thousand dead. from battlefields several kilometers long. and now there is only one person who
11:42 pm
cares. you see we are surrounded by garbage everywhere but also there are. on this beach which of course is the very most appropriate city signification a symbol of everything that's wrong with our goddamn government allowing not only garbage but to accumulate where so many guys died. a new battle is going on. will the history be protected. return to terra what julian cooper story on our team. to tonight's fireside friday is with your host of cops. nine years fifty days and counting that's the amount of time that we've been
11:43 pm
finding a war in afghanistan it's the exact same amount of time that the soviet union was in the country except for after nine years and fifty days they left and you want to know what happened afterwards all the afghan army whom they trained and armed the leader who they held up and financially supported they were overrun by the mujahideen mohammad knowledgeable that was hung in koppel's main square and yet for some reason we think that by overstaying our welcome even further by surpassing the soviets we've got a better chance for success the longer we keep invading occupying bombing muslim countries the sooner we'll read this world of the threat of terrorism somehow i don't think that's a good strategy i don't know how many more of these. milestones in fact i can handle this war has already surpassed vietnam as america's longest war now will be in afghanistan longer than the soviet union you know they say but those who forget
11:44 pm
history are doomed to repeat it so if we've forgotten are we just ignoring it or just trudging on despite all reason let's just hope that somebody wakes up before the us empire joins the list of those which were burning in the mountains of afghans. the drug enforcement agency has just started a new battle this time they're taking on k two it's the synthetic stuff to substitute for the active ingredient in marijuana and up until this point it allowed users to get that same high feeling about using illegal substances until now kates you could be found in gas stations liquor stores similar places across the country but the da has now imposed any mergence a ban on the substance until they have a better understanding of how it effects people now their emergency ban will last for about a year until they fully understand the effects of synthetic marijuana they're going to declare cave to as a schedule one drug deal scheduling is the government's method of classifying the
11:45 pm
severity of drugs and just to give you an idea of how it works we create the chart to show you how other drugs are treated currently marijuana ok to ecstasy m.d.m.a. heroin and l.s.d. are all classified as schedule one meaning that they have a high potential for abuse schedule to includes cocaine methamphetamines opium and ritalin get the ritalin the prescribe the little kids out there with a.d.t. meanwhile schedule three and four host drugs like anabolic steroids ketamine value and xanax but keep in mind that the d.a. uses this schedule to determine the severity of punishments for those caught possessing these illegal substances so we should note that each criminal charges plans on several factors including how many times the guilty parties been caught with drugs in the past but generally somebody caught with a schedule one or two drugs can face up to twenty years behind bars schedule three and below drugs or see if and when we are between one and three years in jail so it
11:46 pm
just goes to show that the d.a.'s classification system does have an impact on how all those controlled substances are true then court but here is what drives me crazy about is that the chemicals in k two were originally developed for research purposes that offer people opportunity to feel the effects of marijuana without breaking the law. but now the da wants to ban it because they're scared of the unknown they want to classify as another dangerous controlled substance and allow people to go to jail for decades if they're caught with that without having information on the new drug to even know what the effects are because making rash power grabs you control the new substance is really going to solve all of our problems i think anybody with a brain out there knows that the concept of prohibiting a substance is going to keep people from using it and what's worse is this substance went from being legal available everywhere to being illegal i consider it an abuse of drug overnight without any research so hopefully the d.n.a.
11:47 pm
will come to their senses and realize ok too could not be deserving of a severe drug classification at least not until we know more about it we're going to have more on this story on monday for you with the reasons jacob sullum. now while many are waiting for the latest cables from whistle blowing website wiki leaks to drop some countries are still trying to get details from there last week in light of wiki leaks iraq documents that mark has attempted to launch an internal investigation but as our correspondent explains their investigation led to some very bizarre realisations. defense officials seem to be on a quest for the truth of the week you leaks after the whistleblower web site released thousands of iraq war logs showing prisoner abuse in iraq denmark launched its own investigation to find out whether danish soldiers were involved if anything had happened in a wrong way of course we should be open about that at first they turned to nato and
11:48 pm
the united states for help with no luck get the documents from the americans because the americans of a close ally often mark in these documents are american after being refused access to information by nato and their american counterparts. to turn to wiki leaks ironically we got to see those documents before they did because the very same logs that the ministry of defense are after are in position of a danish newspaper which got them not for weeks and weeks but from a whistleblower of their own and yes danish defense officials asked the editors for help to we're not going to give them to the defense forces because this is the source protection thing for the newspaper with the paper keen to protect informants identities the danish military had one last resort we q. makes for a gravel a former military intelligence officer finds the situation absurd he was arrested and jailed for leaking information on weapons of mass destruction in iraq six years ago and now the officials themselves are turning to leaked documents for truth
11:49 pm
something gribble himself was jailed for so we don't have the very thought ma'am. her viewpoint regarding freedom of speech. is always bend so as to suit itself if it's embarrassing and you leak they will do whatever it can to punish the messenger if we retreat top brass don't like what they discovered this time it might just be that once again it's a website telling the danish people what their soldiers were really doing in iraq. copenhagen denmark. now we already discussed how embarrassing it is that nato and afghan officials were fooled by an imposter who claimed to be a high ranking member of the taliban willing to negotiate for peace the fact that after nine years of war we still can't recognize our enemy and today we have kind of a similar story but this one deals with the media fox news
11:50 pm
a sister site fox nation posted a link on their site to a story from the onion that read frustrated obama sends a nation rambling seventy five thousand word e-mail except around the site that they signal the onion is not real news that it's just satire let's just say that this isn't the first time fox has aired a fake story and then run with it so what do you say for our media if they can't recognize a satirical news story from a real one or join me to discuss it is christopher chambers author of the blog now turn his revenge and georgetown university professor chris thanks so much for being here happy thanksgiving have you things giving to you as well this is well it's kind of verisign story right just putting up a. piece what do you think it is about fox i mean do you think that they don't really care if it's not true as long as it freaks people out just for a minute i think there's two levels i mean first is the war of the worlds kind orson welles' level where it's real and it's something that the media is doing
11:51 pm
there people are aggregating stories and take your stuff off the blogs not vetting it not verifying anything just putting it out there and that happens no matter the political point of view but on top of that you have this political point of view this adjourned words like a train chugging and they have to just hear it and anything that looks crazy they're going to put it up there and then and then you see the comments were just brutal i mean some of these people i mean i was waiting for them to say let's just assess and you know or burn a cross on the white house lawn i mean there's just dozens of these comments but they don't so them the very thing that it's a symptom of the mainstream media in the united states that's journalism. in the year two thousand and ten the united states and that's. and said it happens and you're very right it's when there is so much information out there on the internet everyone is throwing around it's you definitely have to double check everything because who knows there's so much you know being thrown around all the time but i
11:52 pm
mean i feel like you know that in some ways you also have to blame audiences and viewers but you know i mean that's why fox gets the ratings because they love pushing up you know those who are in fear mongering stories i hate to admit it you know i think that even on our program the stories that i think you know deserve the most attention that i feel like are the most important well they don't do half as well as the ones we just throw more of that is the there are some that are so insane i mean to have an audience that would believe this is out of control i mean what's going to be next. is a firm bought from austin powers and then they're going to believe that i mean that's the that's the that's the stats the scary part of the sad part is that this trend towards aggregation not no regional stories no original reporting that's the scary part is that there are viewers which feeds off of this blog you know octopus that comes into them is that in saying now one of the interesting things too is the
11:53 pm
story that broke the other day in our show was it was over by the time that we found out about it the tom de lay i mean formally one of the most powerful the hammer one of the most powerful republicans in this country now has been convicted of money laundering he could face up to life in prison i doubt that that would ever be have a man like tom de lay but i really see in so much of the media talking about i mean this is somebody who is of a politician are we supposed to be holding them accountable as it is now everything's been about well i mean again i mean it's in a way you know first of all on fox i did a little research and i could find very few stories definitely not that many leads you know maybe. well round up here and there oh tom de lay was convicted but that's it i mean there's there's again there's two issues i think it's because he's almost yesterday's news so because you don't really see that on m.s.n. b c he was not a man with us or he was on anything other than that exactly he's yesterday's news even though he was minority leader one most powerful republicans in this country
11:54 pm
probably a leader of a precursor to the tea party but so that's the sad part the scary part is he has followers fox has followers where this isn't news this is unimportant and they purposely push it off and you know we don't see that stuff they'd rather brush it under the table of course if it's someone on their side right there's a story of his charlie rangle who who is crimes and there aren't even crimes their ethics violation i'm not minimizing this because the guy did some bad things but it's more like him trying to start the charlie rangle library in harlem what this guy did was launder almost two hundred thousand dollars of funds from lobbyists to republican candidates to set up so he can run gerrymandered districts in texas i mean that's the height of public corruption right there and yet you don't see anything in the mainstream media about there's one thing that i want to discuss
11:55 pm
which i agree with right now is bracing themselves waiting for the new wiki leaks documents released and i think it's just so interesting you and i can recount how much that has changed just eight months to april when collateral damage their first video was released and we're really the only ones talking about your songes here that they had the iraq documents release and you know julian assange was on larry king that night and now the precursor you know leading up to the release is now making the news and you know there's a million articles about how they're preparing it's crazy to me all the sort of how much has changed oh yeah well it's almost like you discovered a star now the stars taken off and i kind of it's like a star is born. the guy discovered her and then she becomes a star and then he commits suicide because he's forgotten all about her no no no you're going to like there's no it now it's all over scare the not so much substance that we're aware of the documents actually have to say oh well i mean that starts how that's how that's what's happening in the media has not caught up with this and put it in the cycle put it in the washing machine and now the high
11:56 pm
and the and the and the lead up is more important than the actual substance i don't know i mean i don't know who knows what's going to come out what's come out so far has been pretty pivotal i mean once you get through the details of raw data maybe that's what's happening now is that people realize there's a lot of raw data and that's not exciting but the lead up is exciting or the mystery. if it changes anything thanks so much for being here if you are that's it for tonight's show thanks for tuning in make sure you guys come back on monday when he says jacob sullum a weigh in on the new synthetic marijuana known as k two in the meantime don't forget to become a fan of the a lot of show on facebook and follow us on twitter and if you missed any of tonight's show or any other nights they can always catch all the you tube dot com slash their own show where we post the interviews as well as the show in its entirety coming up next is the news with the latest headlines from the u.s. and abroad.
