for more information this is the first of the web site. a major embarrassment for the u.s. state department thousands of classified diplomatic files have been released by the whistle blowing web site wiki leaks i'll be back with more from washington d.c. in just a few moments. to senior iranian nuclear scientists targeted in bomb attacks around blames israel saying it's an attempt to probe the country's nuclear program. keeping tensions. with a regional joint naval exercise with the u.s. coming dangerously close to directly provoking conflict. could have you with this is. the russian capital here twenty four hours
2:01 pm
a day so unflattering assessments of world leaders by u.s. diplomats and spying on the u.n. secretary general that's information anyone has now access to classified documents from u.s. embassies across the globe were revealed by online whistleblower wiki leaks well for more on this i can now. choose in washington the falls could tell us foreign policy secrets as the leaks expose anything surprising or perhaps even explosive. well below a lot of people are saying no there are thousands of cables from american embassies around the wall sent to washington and from washington they expose diplomatic information never meant for public but experts most of say it say most of those documents are nothing new for the international diplomatic community and most diplomats are kind of aware of the u.s. attitudes but all all that they revealed in public they'd raise some eyebrows take a listen. we know pretty much more of the united
2:02 pm
states thinks leaders of the ability vance and for us to seize. a thing would be simply to see in print or documents you know some experts are saying that what's really outrages is not the fact that the u.s. has secrets but that it's no longer able to keep its own secrets those are some very embarrassing moments for the u.s. state department now that really shows not so much some huge secret facts but rather the level of correspondence among u.s. diplomats which some described as similar to high school kids kids at the u.s. embassy in paris this right for example the french president as naked emperor things scanned and off they were tarion or the german chancellor angela merkel for some reason mentioned as angle that teflon mera cult or among other things the u.s. embassy in moscow described president medvedev as playing robin to putin's badman
2:03 pm
so you find a lot of nicknames in those files actually you know that that would be kind of an amusing read if it were not so diplomatically diplomatically embarrassing let's say bill what amazes so many people is the fact that it's possible that such a vast amount of classified data has been released into the public domain do you think does someone actually push for this to happen do you think there's a hidden agenda somewhere behind all this. you know bill there are lots of versions on who would want those leaks released some some some even guessed that someone might want to undermine obama that way let's listen. as i understand a bomb administrator is supposed to pay the bills or of the last administration because of the some documents dated back to the year two thousand and four two thousand and five so i personally have a friend in the know this is ongoing an attack on president obama which started not
2:04 pm
today and which aims not to allow him to be reelected this is the theme i think you know many were quick to dob it as a diplomatic crisis for the us not just because of the fact we're go there but first of all because of the rabble lation itself how is that possible right if in fact if secretary of secretive us state department allowed this to happen and second of all how embarrassing just just just the often of when those diplomatic cables were that we have things that some are saying that this could be the job of government insider insiders here's this opinion. these leaks would never have happened if not for the number of insiders who are ready to leak this information it looks like it's linked to the wars in iraq and afghanistan when offices and the dia looking for a not exactly fair business and this moral decay inside the pentagon caused these
2:05 pm
leaks the main thing this leak has done is break delusion that the state department has everything under control they have been exposed mechanisms not secret but quite simple and cynical partners of the u.s. will be more careful now it's another sign that the u.s. is no longer dominating the world. here they want ministration is ordering our government agencies to immediately review procedures for safeguard safeguarding classified information there and you know this is just yet another huge batch of classified files released by the whistle blowing web site it's certainly not the first one earlier this year week at least released thousands of secret documents on u.s. actions in afghanistan and iraq they showed civilians killed by american forces some experts are saying that what. what's really outrageous is it's not just the fact that this was happening but this is just just being that the u.s. state department is no longer able to control that outburst of information you know
2:06 pm
one u.s. senator even said even if offered the u.s. state department to include the. in the list of terrorist organizations so desperate is the united states to sort of cover up for these leaks just finally how is the u.s. going to deal with the consequences so all of these major leaks you know who believe just earlier heard hillary clinton say sort of bad that he says just just what i will deploy marts are saying this is not what our policy is that. hearsay is one thing and policy is something different just just take a listen what she said i want to make clear that our officials foreign policy is not set through these messages but here in washington our policy is a matter of public record as reflected in our statements and our actions
2:07 pm
around the world. you know even though the u.s. state department is kind of trying to play this down saying that this is not our official attitude to those countries to those leaders. this spite the fact that you know some some expect there will be some awkward moments when actually hillary clinton sit down and sits down with with with some some of her counterparts in other countries but you know some of her counterparts including the russian foreign minister sergei lavrov where. they commented their reaction was kind of quite restrained and he said. it is an amusing. but our the russians policy is guided by actions not not by take a listen. to. it was fun to read sure but in actual policies we prefer to base our decisions on our partners concrete actions we're
2:08 pm
going to practice this approach in the future. well this this could make make. the u.s. foreign policy a little more embarrassing but but the message in there is from the u.s. state department from hillary clinton is that it should not affect their relations got a thanks very much indeed for that it's kind joining us live there in washington to speak more on the leaked files i'm joined now from london by former intelligence officer and attorney thanks very much indeed for joining us good evening what do you make of this do you think this is all about freedom of speech or or as i was discussing a little earlier with our correspondent there in washington perhaps there is an ulterior motive on the part of wiki leaks to put the u.s. in this very awkward position. where i'm not sure what the motive but what it is is undoubtably embarrassing. and causing some amusement i think in some of the
2:09 pm
capitals around the world the state department we've just heard secretary of state clinton talking about the damage that the danger individuals are not so sure that for example that the fact that vladimir putin might be called an alpha dog or . batman or robin is being rude but it doesn't really upset things what is far greater concern is that many of the diplomats in pakistan the war or wherever else have talked with american diplomats in a very indiscreet fashion and when it is seen and we've seen in yemen the prime minister of yemen when it is seen how they have collaborated with american diplomats and american intelligence officials this can cause some problems at home
2:10 pm
and that since some of the people might be what you're saying that the risk there what is in national relations. national security with countries involved with various issues between themselves it's a national security issue more at stake than just the personal pops of individuals from diplomats you're quite right what it shows is how the whole intelligence community has become over reliant on technology i mean the idea of something called . our net the secret internet protocol and the idea was for an exchange of information you know after nine eleven where the intelligence services were sharing their information together that what has happened that whereas maybe forty thousand people within the intelligence community would have access suddenly bizarrely diplomats military people and indeed
2:11 pm
intelligence people there's over two million people. so what is extraordinary we haven't had leaks like this before and so that's why i only just find it we have got much time just finally though does that mean in effect done the us a favor here where i just noticed right now the u.s. the white house has said it will be tightening security after on a sense that it failed somewhere just briefly. if you talk about stable doors closing after the horses. a dreadful day and it was hugely embarrassing almost as embarrassing when. truckin took over thousands of k.g.b. documents out in one thousand nine hundred nine embarrassing at the time but not subsequently there were you have to say thanks so much for joining us former intelligence officer and analyst joining us there live in london thank you. well what can be more important and trusting the news and information we see in here in a special report later next hour on american veteran journalist examines how the media shapes public opinion and whether it's an information gate way or

injured the attacks were reportedly. attached to the cause the running government blames israel in the united states for the incident journalist and broadcaster. told. that it was an attempt to hamper iran's nuclear program from approved. if you live in iran it's a very peaceful place nothing much ever happens here when these kind of actions are carried out it is generally from abroad and it's carried out with their coordination with their planning and their agents who might have been able to get in the country which in this case they have and their countries that are interested and are using iran's nuclear program to broadcast adverse publicity are known to the world and they're also known for their terrorist activities and the proxy terrorist organizations in the middle east so a context man any more on that there are interested parties and i think the world already knows who they are iran's nuclear program is very extensive but it is
2:14 pm
entirely peaceful now why would they want to hamper country's efforts to get on i have no idea they're reactors they used to make medicine they used to generate electricity their light water reactors they can't be any deviations keeping iran under their thumb is one of the main main objectives of such actions. by the way you can find more on our website dot com and here are some of the stories online at the moment. all me vehicle on the streets of a lot of our stock in russia's far east raised fears that war was about to break out over it turns out its owner was just popped into the shop. and a glimpse of a russian underwater bicycle pedal powered submarine opens up wonders of the depths to everyone with or without diving experience.

to go back to being essentially local domestic banks because this adventure that they went on overseas was a failure last week chancellor merkel made a strong quote she asked if politicians had the courage to confront the bankers and bondholders to make those who took the risks share in the bailout how comments were barely reported in the western press why is this a touchy issue because if you say that's what you are thinking about people in the market react to it immediately so this is not something that you can speculate about either have to have a clearly worked out plan which involves a debt restructuring which is. everybody painful maybe but at least equally painful if you have that plan and you can do it you could do that for greece or italy for portugal you could say we're going to have
