tension looms over the first parliamentary elections of the self-proclaimed republic of kosovo the serve minority says this vote is pointless as long as people live divided. the lead. prime minister vladimir putin puts his singing skills to the test in front of a star studded audience all in the name of charity. here with r t live from moscow where it's seven pm and russian special police forces have detained dozens of football fans who turned a commemoration into riots here in the capital and in st petersburg thousands have gathered in the two cities to mark the death of a fan. one of the football team spartak moscow killed in

a brawl on monday let's cross live now to our three nazario and sean thomas for the details first to you covering what you are in the heart of moscow where this violence broke out the softer new st petersburg's been also marking this day which has descended into riots have the tensions cooled is everything under control now in the two cities. and he said as you can see right now everything is back to normal traffic is going down the city center and it's almost hard to imagine that just a few hours ago this place the very heart of moscow mine isn't a square just a few steps away from the kremlin was the scene of the extreme violence thousands of football fans were gathered here to protest and commemorate the death of one of their own a football fan i mean who was shot dead just over a week just a week ago just last week and the riots broke out at this own sanction meeting where protesters were throwing bottles of fireworks starting fires throwing rocks

at riot police who were trying to do their best to vent tame the violence to prevent it from spreading further we've heard police. asked to not give into provocations to not partake in the violence but still many people were injured we saw them covered in blood being taken away by ambulances to get treated a lot of people were detained after they clashed with riot police here in the heart of the capital it's all quiet right now but we do know that there is an increased police presence in the metro because a lot of those who were here actually left of the city center that way we also know that a group of people were here attacked a few people in the metro. health was offered and they were detained a number of other people were detained in the underground as well on this station up with a doubt metro station they were detained by riot police after they attempted to propagate them so it was a very tense day. it still seems that tensions are not completely over but at the
11:04 am
moment everything looks calm here in moscow where st petersburg was also this was a scene for violence where you get another commemorative rally was underway there the protesters also started throwing ice and bottles at riot police a lot more policemen were immediately deployed to the area over sixty people there detained as while bringing the total number of those detained in the riots today to over a hundred and twenty that's how many people have at least on the floor behind the the instigators of the violence but not many that morning to police sources not all of them were aggressors many just came to pay their respects but it quickly got out of hand when some people decided to play out on those are the clashes between protesters and riot police let's just take a second to listen to what the police chief of moscow had to say that led to meet her collect points and. some people have reacted very violently to the death of the

sport dictionary but i do believe that some of their dissatisfaction is understandable but it is unacceptable when we have aggression with for our characters to burst into flames in ordinary people suffer we'll take all the necessary measures to work and you think like that happen again so that the authorities are not accused if and effectiveness in handling the killing of your grocery the police have already arrested those responsible for the killing and they will arrest others everyone is equal before the war. was on thomas' outside the court where three men will appear in connection with violence the other day that led to the death of a spark tech moscow football fan sean what happened that day and what have been its knock on the facts. well i mean it all started on monday after a spartak match where fans had an incident involving around ten people got involved in a brawl in the. instead. you go to video was shot and killed allegedly by

us lawn chair because soft now go soft is there are proceedings against him he has been charged with homicide but initially in the immediate after not mouth of that incident things escalated in fact people took to the streets and it is believed it became more than just a dispute between sports fans and north caucasus nationals it became more of a race issue in fact russian nationals against the north caucasus in fact cherkasov is from god but do you know because they are from the north caucasus so this is some of the escalation in this incident but the people in that after that fight going to the streets demanding is that this person be arrested he was charged with homicide two other people have been charged with it is to getting a fight as well and the past records of escalated until the incident today. good you know because you're not you of course were there what were the people calling
11:07 am
for what do they want. and he said it's always somewhat strange that people ate even greater rally would turn violent but from what. instigated by football fans by friends to be murdered football. most of the violence was instigated by nationalist groups serious nationalist groups who are also here in my nation a square in the heart of the capital they were here we heard them shouting racist slogans attacking our people. but they missed it even different from their own we saw lot of people on the ground covered in blood being taken away by riot police and us estate into waiting ambulances so it does appear that most of the violence today was not actually cost by football fans who were allegedly here simply for a commemorative rally but most of the violence wasn't that. instigated by neo
11:08 am
nationalist movements such as the movement against illegal immigration and various other nationalist movements made infiltrated this commemorative rally and started provoking people of course as the day grew and the cold set and they started drinking alcohol of course adding to the mix of tensions already running high and that is what we believe that what the officials here are what we heard them say that is what primarily instigated the violence here and in st petersburg. so on let's go back to you the actions of course the spark tack moscow fans have caused problems for russian special forces has affected the actual football team. well i mean so that is actually one of the unfortunate side effects of this entire situation yes is the short answer but on the wednesday there was a match in the champions league between spartak in slovakia and in that match fans actually rushed to the pitch twice in two separate incidents involved in violent
11:09 am
behavior also. threw flares onto the pitch this forced the players to leave the pitch on two separate occasions now. say that this behavior is completely unacceptable and while this was happening in a champions league event u.s. officials say that this could affect spark type chances in the europa league in fact they say that there will be sanctions of some sort imposed against the team the decision that will take place will happen on december sixteenth and in fact the spartak could be facing expulsion from the europa league in this instance so though the fans themselves are responsible for the behavior it is having an effect on the team because officials say that this behavior just will not be tolerated in sports right sean thomas and three nuns are reporting live from moscow on these developments and riots that took place in the capital in st petersburg thanks for that. the u.s. considers promoting hugh. rights worldwide

not going to vote because for us now it's not the time for elections when we don't lead a normal life. began as per the shows of the families two cars one with cars the number plates and one with serbian. puppets driving on the rules with number of police here in course would be too dangerous. it was an accurate warning we visited drainers a town that's been at the heart of many kosovo albanian nationalist movements of filming was interrupted by the police they spotted our serbian fixes number plates we were detained and questioned before being tailed out of town by locals. also unhappy with our presence there the message was clear serbians not welcome here it was also a stark insight into the divisions of power and fractured governance that remains

in kosovo we don't have checks and balances between. here we don't have just as functioning because it's very controlled just in order for themselves to have free hands to do whatever they want the previous ruling coalition parties a tip to the favorites to win power again despite controversies including accusations of collaborating with organized crime groups one issue dominates the campaign the main the main point and the main goal is integration within european union it's a familiar catchphrase and one that holds an ace way with the opposition it's pure propaganda in their mouth you know atlantic integration the goal of the integration isn't likely to be realized until the cost of a is able to get its own house in order and it us the very serious barrier is which is still dividing is people

surface r.t. because of a. saint petersburg played host to a number of celebrities from all around the world but one that stood out was not an actor or a singer it was russians very own prime minister vladimir putin he even got a standing ovation and this is what it was all for. courts and also showed his range of talents by playing the piano although light hearted this is for a very serious cause helping to raise money for children suffering from cancer among the celebrities taking part more hollywood actors sharon stone and golden couple kurt russell and goldie hawn as well as monica lewinsky and going. back to our top story this hour scores of demonstrators have turned out in moscow and st petersburg in memory of a football fan who was killed in a brawl a week a week ago with violence breaking out in both cities well now i'm joined by fred we
11:18 am
are from the christian science monitor thanks for being with us fred today's violence is it a reflection of anger at the founds death or is there something else behind this well you know that. the combination of football and nationalist passions is the one that causes sometimes the ups and violence all over europe and russia hasn't been a stranger to that sort of thing. and we know that in russia there are extremist groups though there are gangs of skinheads there are there is the movement against illegal immigration who mix with them and try to push. this in a certain way so we have had this quite a bit. however it seems to me that. we should also listen to the complaints a lot of them say and i don't think that all those one thousand people who are in the square today are racists. they complain that.
11:19 am
they don't trust the police to investigate the death of their friend there are reasons too they're just generic christians in russia not to trust the police and they have specific complaints about vista geishas what i found often because you know there are huge numbers of people from the caucasus living in moscow it's a very multinational city and there have been potential triggers to wars in chechnya have been cycles of terrorism just come here in moscow and there been horrific acts there was a war with georgia a couple of years ago there were things that could have set off ethnic tensions in this city and and did not do so russians seem to be pretty resilient and not receptive to racist appeals so i think that we shouldn't overblow this you know immediately leap to conclusion that you know you know that there's racist violence
11:20 am
running amok in moscow i think it's a really complicated but potentially dangerous situation that happened here several were injured in the clashes with police how do you think it escalated to that obviously people did gather to commemorate the death of this sparked talk found we did we do know that from our correspondents that there were racist slogans being chanted so do you think it's a mix yes i think i think there's no go that there are extremist groups we know that we know that i interviewed leaders of them and. football fans are natural constituency they were mixed with them. you know you can you get situations through large gatherings of people and you can turn them and i think that certainly is what's happened in the past you know and and that may help to explain why you did see clear ethnically motivated violence there in downtown moscow today do you think we'll see more large scale rallies. well and again i
11:21 am
i want to not sure the police handled the crowd control situation as well as they might have this this is part of the problem that you always have to keep in mind is that the authorities in this country are not. well prepared they have not the be they have very short fuses in situations like that. and they're part of so far part of the problem you know they can learn a lot from other european countries have had this problem football fans nationalists anger and passion that spills over and creates violence that has been the kids occasion campaigns in a lot of methods have been employed in places like britain where it was rife for a long time and russia because we're going to have that twenty eight team a world cup here russia really needs to get its o.c. order anyway and deal with these kind of progress they could they could tear a few pages from from the playbook in other european countries all right fred from
11:22 am
the christian science one star thanks very much for your input this out. but just to remind you of course what fred we're talking about these riots dozens of football fans have been detained after clashes with police just next to the kremlin here in moscow a commemoration march marking the death of a fan turned into a riot you can now see the key moments of what's been happening in the russian top . up next it's the weekend business news with charlotte. and i welcome to the business program here on our team with me. demand for world oil be higher than expected next year it will stay haul into two thousand and fifteen as according to the international energy agency brant crude traded over ninety one dollars this week ahead of the opec meeting on saturday but analysts a split a longer term outlook for the oil price to china pull covert reports. in contrast
