be ratified by the end of this week it seems the only thing that could be in the way of the ratification are partisan games political bargaining which have nothing to do with the treaty itself and its content speaking of bargaining at some point the senate minority leader mitch mcconnell came out and said republicans would want any democrat initiatives if they don't extend tax cuts for the rich so you get a sense open the expand will willard be willing culture on capitol hill on the substance of the treaty whether it's good or bad for america has long stopped being the focus of discussions here in washington to the point when it could become a threat to the u.s. national security a world without buying u.s. russia arms control treaties is a more dangerous world the obama administration is going out of its way to have the deal ratified the president's arguably major foreign policy chief meant is on the line not only does the start nuclear arsenals of both countries by a third it's also seen as
12:01 pm
a symbol of trust between the two nuclear superpowers russia has cooperated with us on critical issues to our national security like iran sanctions transit to supply our troops in afghanistan working on securing loose nuclear materials and the relationships and trust that are built from the new start treaty spill over into a whole host of other national security issues that are vital importance to american fees schoo of trust in america's reputation globally was addressed by the chairman of the senate foreign relations committee every senator has an obligation to ask that question of themselves over the course of these next days are we a credible partner can other nations rely on us what happens when the present united states negotiates a treaty and he comes back here and the rest of the world sees that a treaty bogged down not in the substance of the treaty. but in the politics of the
12:02 pm
day and if the treaty does get bogged down this year chances are the new senate which is going to be more republican and obama hosts teil will put off the new start indefinitely maybe for months or even years get a check on our t. washington d.c. . democrat party strategist robert wiener told me that the main reason the treaty is not ratified yet is down to republicans election cycle mentality that would be stupid for the republicans to continue to block it but then again they want to block everything in the past republicans used to work with democrats now since a new game which they've been wanting to kill everything publicans have learned that sound bites can win elections instead of good governing something has to change we have to get past two year old election cycles and think in terms of the good of the country something has to happen to help us to good governance but good governance in the world not just united states includes passage of the start treaty
12:03 pm
i think perhaps by embarrassing the republicans from trust stopping them from playing politics which is dangerous it's devastating it could cause terrorism to succeed they will come around and pass this treaty haven't. you or without you still ahead the wiki leaks founder gets bail in britain as his supporters insist the charges against him are a cover for the us to get their hands on the whistleblower also. to get the savings of the upcoming loans that will take the next week the national space station crew in the world with. a young russian woman arrested in london almost two weeks ago on suspicion of spying is being released on bail twenty five year old. who's now facing deportation worked as an assistant to british m.p. might harm calk u.k. says she used her position to gather information about the country's nuclear facilities of his lower emmott's been speaking to. she was released around five o'clock last night seemed quite an unexpected decision she seemed
12:04 pm
a bit shocked by the whole process very relieved obviously to be back but she says she's really had no time to even around sort of think about things and think about what the implications are this is not over. yet it doesn't seem she has been released but she is very strict bail conditions she told me that she wasn't able to meet with anybody without the express permission of the home secretary so she wants to meet with anyone give any interviews talk to anybody she has to apply in writing through her lawyers to the home office and then with five days notice and then they will decide whether or not she is allowed to meet with them so really conditions that amounts to house arrest she's also reportedly not allowed to have any contact with her boss mike cox a member of parliament or indeed anyone that she worked with during her time in parliament she says that she's also going to do her best to comply with the terms of. anybody and she still only this time that i spoke to her the time before that
12:05 pm
she's done absolutely nothing wrong she says that she was just doing her job working for mike. and she also said that time that she had no evidence presented really difficult for her as she and her lawyers are trying to appeal again something that they they really don't know what they're dealing with. perhaps not straight away because she did sound extremely tired when i saw this morning but she does look set to carry on this fight against her deportation. or was detained almost two weeks ago now so she spent two weeks in a detention center. some distance from london and the original news that we received was that she was to be deported on the basis presence in the u.k. wasn't conducive to the public good with the grounds of her deportation she'd been working. inside the house of parliament. and the parliamentary assistant to my kind of member of parliament and area in the south of england for two and
12:06 pm
a half years so she'd been issued with a parliamentary party to undergo the security checks in order to get hold of that and then. she was questioned on her way home from a holiday in croatia she was detained at the airport by customs and border officials questioned about her activities they then let her go and she carries on doing her job and going to work every day until just under two weeks ago when she was then detained by the authorities but this is a story that moved very quickly away from the political arena and into the sort of . details presented in the media this is a girl who is quite tall with no legs she's blown she's russian she wears shorts and high heels according to her colleagues and she certainly did on the occasions. and so this is perfect fodder for tabloid headlines and sure enough they didn't they didn't. so it remains to be seen what's going to happen in the developments of this story. is that it is going to stay in this country on bail for at least
12:07 pm
a short time and then we'll have to see what happens. correspondent laura bush. to the wiki leaks founder has been granted bail by a british court but with strict conditions must surrender his passport and here to a curfew would word electronic he's likely to stay in custody for a few days until the two hundred thousand money is raised swedish prosecutors are planning to appeal the bail decision very want. to answer questions over a publication which. so it was the prosecutor come sort of previous arrest warrants saying there was no reason to suspect that he committed were sold while the wiki leaks site is still operating continues to publish competent. news from the justice for. joining. us and good evening to you are you pleased with the court's decision today. yes very pleased the best we could have hoped for in the circumstances. of course isn't free at the moment but it's
12:08 pm
a good step in the right direction while britain and sweden insisting that this hearing is only about the sexual assault allegations from sweden but critics of course show all that the united states is about to extradite him from sweden if he hears of engine is sent there do you think there's a chance that the u.s. will get its way in the end. there is always a danger that any. people who are trying to give information to the public will be in danger from. an organization or state such as the u.s. in trying to get them to silence them they won't stop trying to silence freedom of speech so i don't think they will necessarily stop with julian assange should we say danger what are we talking about there real danger or imagined danger and how severe could that be. it's been quite clear from.
12:09 pm
senior politicians and figureheads in america that they have openly our store his assassination for him to be hunted down like the taliban or al qaida that incitement to violence is something that nobody would want to have hanging over their head and in that respect if it's coming from senior politicians i imagine if you go through the chain of their organization it would be a very serious. problem indeed and i would for one would be very worried there are also reports that journalists are jews afraid for the safety the welfare of his wiki leaks colleagues do you think his associates are in any potential danger. anybody who is associated. with wiki leaks so anybody who is associated with. information is sensitive to governments will always be in danger. under
12:10 pm
surveillance it's not necessary to wiki leaks but there are several other media organizations that exist in the new media and the internet. no doubt been surveyed or watched as you see it where from here what happens next as the situation going to unfold. predicted in something that just exploded on the scene like this is going to be very tricky i don't see it necessarily as a sprint more of a marathon. this is about protecting freedom of speech now and it it is something that's going to be on going even if. julian is freed and the appeal which. may or may not go through. takes place it's something that's not going to stop wiki leaks is still going to be targeted. and the cables
12:11 pm
are still coming out despite being detained recently so this is not something that's going away ok andrew robertson from the justice for sounds company thanks for being on the line from london and coming up to eight pm g.m.t. tonight on this channel artie's financial guru max collins and looks at the financial fallout from the of the continuing stream of wiki leaks to. watching r.t. from moscow knapsack is the most recent country to convert to the euro and it's having a rethink apparently about whether it should stick to the currency parliamentary speaker richard silex says that they need a plan b. in case they have to switch back to their old money he added that the vacuum needs to shore up its financial defenses if the european debt crisis worsens his words come amid a string of rallies across the continent again sweeping austerity measures and welfare cuts patience is wearing thin among people in the eurozone with money
12:12 pm
refusing to pay for politicians mistakes and they're calling for the single. currency to go let's bring into the equation dude i campus now is an analyst of the institute for economic and social studies joining us from the capital bratislava thanks pete on the line with us tonight it's pretty good at mr kopper slovakia join the euro zone nearly two years ago didn't it at the peak of the financial crisis at the worst time you were at that time gave a cost of benefit analysis didn't you now with hindsight which is always a great thing was joining the euro a step in the right direction do you think. good evening well as you mentioned the cost benefit analysis was done by the financial crisis basically made this called benefit analysis irrelevant. what states are the advantages of lower refinancing growth but one has to say that the eurozone that we are in now dramatically changed in the last year is not the same eurozone and the one we
12:13 pm
entered at the beginning of your two thousand and nine. talking about this maybe when the e.c.b. started active buying over bones of various eurozone countries and when emergency fund was created i think these. two events radically changed the principles on which eurozone stands and also radically change the cost benefit analysis of slovakia entering the eurozone or what in the club i got the time and joined the euro was considered wasn't a political and economic success despite what was coming protecting the countries money as it did now if there would be a switch back to a national currency is there a danger of even greater instability i.e. a case of jumping out of the frying pan now into the fire. well first let me say that i don't think that the euro was a savior for slovakia i don't think any catastrophic scenario would. if we
12:14 pm
didn't join join the euro zone let's look at the czech republic they are very similar country with their own currency and they are doing pretty well today. although i would like to mention that this comment of head of parliament of slovakia i wouldn't read it as a plan to exit euro yet i don't think any of sort of leaders want to leave the euro zone in coming months or in coming years i see only as a start of a discussion of what to do if all the things go wrong with the euro and i think it's rational to have a plan what to do if everything goes wrong in the eurozone and of course this is the big question mark is that the country reverting back to its original currency at the moment at least is a bit of an unknown quantity because no one's done it no one's quite sure are they how it's going to work i guess it's no secret it's going to cost a lot of it could also cause investors to cash in and bail out if the replacement currency devalues if it were to happen conceivably would ever be worth the risk and
12:15 pm
is the euro really that do. well nobody really knows and i don't think that the situation is so bad that we would have to do this does this step and i don't think even the head of the parliament wants to do it in the coming months or years as i already mentioned i read it as a discussion start of a discussion and you have to also understand that the house likes feel about you you're right now. as i already mentioned the euro zone changed dramatically during the last year and in slovakia many painful structural reforms happened in the last years we had to save our own banks in the year two thousand and one and it goes almost ten percent of g.d.p. so now the select people don't really understand why they should send money to i was banks when we had to foot the bill for our own bags by ourselves there is also an issue that. all the talk about the european solidarity doesn't work in slovakia
12:16 pm
we have to mention that the slow people are the poorest one in the eurozone so people really don't understand why they should save their richer richer brothers it's a little going to go with this how come the eurozone digging yourself out of this mess if you had a magic wand. some miracle way of getting is out of it how would you do it where should everybody starting trying to help the eurozone. well i think the irish crises are evidence for or for the problems that the. everybody thought that the greek crisis was just. exit burns on the part of crowded markets and the irish crisis shows that the eurozone has huge problems especially you are banks have a huge problem right now and the eurozone tries to pretend that they can go into the depths of everybody but i don't think it's. i think sooner or later some countries or some banks have to default because i don't think that taxpayer. strong
12:17 pm
enough or the economies are strong enough to foot the bill for the banks here i will say before they have to start and we should buy the paper process is four days before the euro cup is a list of the ensuite of economic and social studies thanks for joining us now live from bratislava tonight on our take. and remind that you can always keep up to date on our website with all the latest news blogs and analysis just some of what you looking at on our bunny website and all of the to accelerate into the twenty first century to put the story yes they didn't touch it brushes books like this be showcased. eco friendly hybrid. and that is the song when i'm sixty four well a swiss woman has defied the age barrier to become a mother for the first time with a little help from some russian friends again you instead know but back. home is the place to be.

after a series of scandals of budget cuts. a major irish bank has backed down on plans to pay out forty million euros in bonuses in a statement the allied irish bank said it had received a letter from the government threatening to withhold further public money if they went ahead with their plans banks' one of the head institutions at the center of the country's financial crisis and billions in taxpayer cash coverage losses. the next space probe rocket now stands poised for wednesday's blast off russia's soyuz will take a crew of three a russian an american and the talent on the twenty six mission to the international space station are these people of reports next on the rockets julie to its launch site in kazakhstan. hereward baikonur the final preparations underway ahead of the launch of the soyuz t.m.a. twenty rockets which will carry cosmonaut to meet to be called and astronauts paolo nespoli and katherine coleman up to the international space station for the rocket

has received a blessing from a priest from the russian orthodox church in line with tradition here at baikonur that's not the only tradition they have here have many many traditions and superstitions if you will to be carried out before the launch one of those traditions as that the astronauts and cosmonauts visit the cosmonaut museum here and by can also they get to look at those who have gone before them days and brought back from space while at the museum they also sign a board with the picture of the soyuz t.m.a. rocket on it and write a little message of a memory of what they are about to do with this mission now there's been plenty of former astronauts and cosmonauts say it's a lend their support to the mission crew. liable matter what the weather is it doesn't matter what you know it's just a very robust strong system that can withstand just about anything nature can throw at it and we've seen you know it's been flying since the sixty's it was a rare exception or so every time and some of those who have been up there before
12:22 pm
say it's those little things that can make life hard when you're up in space i think probably the biggest challenge for me you know i think it sounds kind of trivial but it was the lack of variety of the food after you know you know one month it's ok two months it's ok and then you know three months you know exactly how many brownies are in the desert have been you know exactly how many heaters are in the meat tray and because it's all the same so that's how it's looking here at the moment in baikonur the cosmonauts and astronauts are currently tucked away so they can catch any sniffles all colds or coughs it's very cold here in baikonur of course they do get sick they can be pulled from the mission and the whole team of. coleman would be removed from the mission and replaced with the backup crew so they're desperately trying to make sure that that doesn't happen they're all tucked up nice and warm and that's how it looks at the baikonur cosmodrome peter all of a bike and. you know you got a full sports update coming your way on our team about twenty minutes time but
