less and all of us normal passengers are used. but it's also a very sad lesson for security services and the police who i understand in this last couple of years as maybe this side of the whole atmosphere is more lax if we compare any major international airport because you could say that the security procedures in proceedings at the ones. that actually the same base with heathrow j.f.k. or shall go in paris it's relatively the same having said that in this last two or three years the security procedure for those courts apply have been improved. it's not just me it's be people who specialize in these things would describe the security procedure at the mercy of the very state of the art. but of course even the major terrorist threat eason russia it is of course necessary to think once
12:31 pm
again. may be unfortunately implementing security control and security procedures at the very time in. order for everyone to see it i am going to morrow come from another world i would be surprised if i am stopped or maybe even surged but then for some charity events or whatever then i would accept you know i would accept it was a normal citizen i would accept it because these are explicable security arrangements given the circumstances. and just to reiterate our developments here concerning that blast of airport there is speculation now that the blast went off in the waiting area this is an area which is just beyond the baggage reclaim hall where many friends and relatives and taxi drivers will be waiting to meet the travelers this is a new development which we're now learning here on r.t. the explosion went off in the main arrivals area though but within that area is the
12:32 pm
of course the waiting area and we understand that that is where the explosion. occurred so that is the latest speculation we're seeing here at the moment on r.t. resulting at the moment one hundred thirty injured and thirty five killed while already we've talking a little earlier to peter lavelle and reporting to you that president medvedev has reacted immediately to this crisis russian president ordered extra security to put in place to be put in place in all of moscow's airports and railway stations and here's what he had to say in response to the attack. he says. the explosion in domodedovo took people's lives are spoken for the health minister and the emergencies minister those injured in the explosion will receive all necessary aid i express my condolences to the families of those killed extra security will be put in place in all airports roee stations and transport hubs a special investigation group will be set up to look into the incident we need to
12:33 pm
look at what's happened in the immediate aftermath as for security on transport we've recently approved a number of laws on that we need to check that those laws are working because what happened shows not all of those rulings are being properly applied we have to look into that the most important thing at the moment is to support the victims and their families. the reaction from the russian president we also managed to get in touch with an eyewitness of the blast of the earlier today let's just have a listen to what she had to say. oh in a cafe a domodedovo airport one of my colleagues was taken to hospital she's in intensive care the past happened in the arrivals area that's the left wing of the airport the explosion must have been very strong because our cafes about one hundred meters from the arrivals area and when we heard the blast blast or started falling from the ceiling. i'm at the departure zone of the gym i did about
12:34 pm
airports right now they've just announced that the airport is working normally all the flights had a question on time i'm not sure about the international arrivals airport staff don't know where they will be diverted to i came here about half an hour ago i was waiting at passport control i heard that there was a blast at their rivals area that was already a lot of small at the baggage claim area there were a lot of people crowded there because the escalator stopped the stop organized emergency exit but the door was very narrow and people crowded. they media to be so this stuff started breaking the walls to let the people out soon after the airport stopped receiving the arriving flights everyone left the passport control area and started leaving the baggage claim area and of those who hadn't received their luggage stayed. words from an eyewitness who was caught up in the incident earlier today moscow's main airport domodedovo well earlier my colleague spoke to
12:35 pm
political analysts dimitri babich and also the cross talk host and political commentator peter divel they said it's not easy to intimidate russia through attacks like this. people getting back to doing their daily lives here unfortunately we do have these kind of attacks but people are not intimidated by them life will go on as tragic as this event is today number two russian afghanistan warmed up relations in the last few days don't discount out of somebody sending a signal because you know they've been very good at getting rid of the coalition of the willing america's willing partners in afghanistan has made him sweat a little baby step there to work on the drugs trade but you know it's you know that could be a doctor we could be connecting my point is this is outside funding these are people outside funding these people training people in many cases or training people to train other people and outside and it's extremely well documented western media doesn't like to that angle because it makes russia look like it can't deal with the north caucuses and all the areas all the problems down there who would
12:36 pm
want to have to deal with the kind of a social breakdown that we've had in many cases and we need investment there's unemployment there's actually discrimination poor governance i would say in many ways but there is an initiative and has been initiative to deal with that issue but still we have this why did they come to the world capital why to send a message to keep the training going and keep the money coming in from the outside and this is something that russia is very well on where i agree with the idea as he started out here there's still a lot of locals here if you look around you know they still have a lot of work to do to stay calm about this kind of activity some loopholes perhaps but certainly secure. when you when you see it at the metro the airport security is always a far as i'm concerned very impressive but you drew you to all the focus down to to the north caucuses here dimitri is peter do you think is correct did enjoy pointing the finger of blame in that area well if as i said the news that the terrorist act was committed by a suicide bomb are confirmed then obviously. track will be the first or the number
12:37 pm
one track or investigation since it's such a huge city you just cannot bring it to a standstill even by a major terrorist act. i would get you on what peter has said before you know of financing if. the terrorist. source is good for us. i think the worst in the audience shouldn't step to let the states or the european union we not can see the russia part of the west what for us when this terrorist russia is a part of you i mean you've got a missile to move. around so yes you have terrorism it's not just a domestic issue it's a global issue and i would like to add that it's like the weakest link is this the west it's dangerous and difficult to strike it has to strike at israel israel's security it's very difficult to strike the united states it's a bit easier to straighten you up but europe gets very easily but in russia because it's such a it's basically a new state and it's
12:38 pm
a porous. porous there are all sorts of communities here so it's just easier to strike a treasure but the problem with russia for these people the terrorist is that russia is not so easily intimidated for example spain in spain the terrorist immediately had a positive effect on their actions in russia because of its political system and because of many reasons they can strike again if the game came and there is no result and if we have a north. this is a connection here to we have very huge immigrant communities from central asia i mean we have people mixed in here very easily in very strong communities right here it's very good coverage here because they're not they're not wired the technology isn't really there they're not easy dropping i mean of course they go to find individuals and groups and in clans that could be very dangerous but there are so
12:39 pm
again it's not a. security wise that so many people would think. russia is a very loose on very many things and it's an easy place to blend in and to organize these types of terrorist attacks. my colleague talking to piece of the bell and we'll get more reaction analysis plenty of guests to talk to throughout the next few hours here in r.t. as we react live to the explosion that occurred at domodedovo airport it's moscow's largest airport to give you an idea of the geography is about twenty three kilometers away from the city center there is speculation that the explosion occurred in the waiting area in the arrivals hall not originally speculated baggage . area initially it was thought that a suicide bomb went off passengers were collecting their baggage from about four carousels they're leaving out from that area there's a small customs area security area and then
12:40 pm
a doorway through into be waiting and that is where now it's suggested that a suicide bomber detonated the bomb and that's you can imagine at that time of day at four thirty pm in the afternoon here in moscow that's one thirty pm g.m.t. is an extremely busy time and we're showing you now the aftermath of that explosion that occurred a little earlier well we're getting reaction as i say from our correspondents throughout the city major transportation hubs and now. emergency measures and. of course also get reaction from. our correspondent who's at the hospitals many hospitals of dealing with the injured one hundred thirty five should say one hundred thirty we understand have been injured and thirty five killed let's not get reaction from these from the russian united business. department and joining us now thank you very much indeed well you're reaction to to this situation
12:41 pm
your immediate thoughts. the media is sold. all differently that's very tragic. occurrence it will be. a blow our vision is going to sustain there will be probably less prestigious in the next days and weeks after what has happened but so very important for the aviation community starts. it was not the matter of aviation security so it was basically a matter of police. and. a matter of police it would be the same thing. could have happened in the metro. happened on the bus somewhere and most people are probably looking for clinics and that right now if you are from the russian united business aviation association and
12:42 pm
of course as you were talking a little earlier about the fact how the aviation world will respond to this nevertheless questions will be also and many not just russian carriers but international carriers will be questioning the security of not just on the debt of a russian airports now what impact would that have on business and on the faith and russian aviation. well. what i feel it's not it is not a matter for the face of the russian aviation so it's basically a matter for the city but then it will be very nervous will a no alliance will be very go my distain it could start there will be definitely backlash and security in the airports. areas accessible for everybody or for common excise have been police and police have really but probably not enough that might this then you could start about the same thing will be happening like happened in metro on the grounds of the bloss that's happened one year in
12:43 pm
march of last year. so there has been. definite measures there's been more officers present now in the metro. that all speaking devices all the trains all carry just was not not allowing people to communicate and to report suspicions if there are any. my understanding about this thing will be happening in all their ports areas accessible for the people will be policed have it it's going to make life more more difficult now is it for passengers we're going to see increased security at domodedovo and indeed. and other airports is going to have an impact on passengers. probably yes probably yes. i mean some people might say there's already too much security but there again what we've just seen today you clearly can't have enough so i actually don't belive it's
12:44 pm
recently become a very efficient airport and some modern and well regarded airport but it in the past has suffered from like your material big problems with kids and it could happen again. it's probably a little bit background of what happened there was caught. in the time dealing with the problems start happened around the new year. so. responding to certain challenges that we're trying to improve the systems they were looking at certain things like. electricity supply. and they were concentrating on the right things the middle falls they were called those last one and speak before this happened in the area under construction and it is not completed if you compare the area of for international arrivals. show you meet
12:45 pm
several local you will notice that this area is a little bit under construction is. still a public area even if it is not in structure it's those public areas safe where you get people coming in to greet travelers who haven't even been through any security measures these are public people coming in from the public areas and coming in without any security measures it's impossible it's not. well it's probably because in the metro so more police officers it was more surveillance and people to report whatever suspicious the seat was then of course from the russian united business aviation association very much appreciate you coming in last minute here on r.t. thanks very much for joining us and and doctors here. coming to the live from the russian capital just to reiterate we're reporting the ongoing developments concerning the aftermath of that blast at domodedovo airport and little earlier today at one thirty pm g.m.t. four thirty pm g.m.t. moscow time here the capital now that's been international condemnation to this
12:46 pm
attack from the u.s. germany and france among others let's not get more from marty is going to check on who's in washington not gonna what kind of reaction have we been hearing from around the world at this early stage. well bill president obama's condemned of last and called it an outrageous act of terrorism against the russian people we also expressed condolences to the families of the victims so have many of the war leaders we have a statement from nato secretary general who said he was shocked by this attack he says terrorism is a common thread in there the international community has to fight fight it together and all of the leaders are saying that what's really shocking to most here is this blast in context of the previous ones russia has suffered from a succession of the rand does terrorist attacks of the last a year and a house there were the moscow metro suicide bombing last march there was the attack
12:47 pm
on the passenger train a little bit over a year ago so russia is falling victim to terrorism on a regular basis and only recently has the united states and the west in general started to sort of acknowledged that this is part of national terrorism not just russia domestic issues where she's been saying for years that there has to be a global effort to fight it is not only slowly you know russia's responsibility although russia is in many ways much more vulnerable to terrorism then other western states. took us for water security experts. saying especially about the good of a major international hub. well gauri among a lot of other things security experts point out that these monsters could be staging the attacks to raise funds from international terrorist networks to so that they can pull the softening russia it is not as difficult to pull it off as saying
12:48 pm
the united states and using suicide bombers they make their message even more graphic russian security experts believe that terrorist groups operating in la should do get funding from abroad some of the members are known to have been trained abroad so really to stop this there has to be an international effort you know but let me let me speak a little bit more broadly about the u.s. reaction to this terrorist attack in russia not about the official statements you know but comments coming from the local media reporters saxe birth i was watching one of the channels here this morning at it again someone used the word chechen rebels rebels the word has been striking a nerve with the russians for so long president medvedev people brought this up once he said we're not talking about any rebels these people should be called nothing else but terrorists thoughts they are killing machines their sole goal is to kill people. i strongly condemn
12:49 pm
the senate rejects acts of terrorism against the russian people at the dome of yet of the airport i want to express the solidarity of the american people with the russian people in the aftermath of this premeditated attack against innocent civilians michelle and i offer our deepest condolences to the russian people who have suffered greatly at the hands of terrorism we share your sorrow in a resolve to stand with you in our common fight against those who used terrorism for their political goals and thoughts are with the families of the victims and we are praying for a successful recovery for all those who are injured. well again as i said the official reaction has been quite different. you know condolences and officials here the leaders of course understand that this is part of a global problem and that terrorism is a common thread indeed there and i just. just just finally talking to
12:50 pm
americans there obviously russia has become more and more of a popular tourist destination particularly in the summer many many americans i see them so often during the summer enjoying the cruises between petersburg and moscow flying in to enjoy the cultural experience that russia has to offer what sort of reaction do you think this explosion no an impact it will have on the perhaps the perception that americans have of traveling to russia. you know people of the danger is always there you know the danger is when you just . get a cab or or just sit behind the wheel it's always there and everybody understands that but. you know what there has been a succession of those attacks it's not just this one right we what about the metro station what about that train bombing i mean those tourists could have been at the same spot just as well as at this airport and that might they have
12:51 pm
a earlier today so whether or not it will scare people i don't know i mean it depends on the people i guess. i'm just going back to the political implications here in some ways you know you've always got to look at some of the positive aspects of this you were saying earlier that obviously many of perceiving this as a global problem this is just what happened in russia this is a global problem we're seeing what is happening with russia and the u.s. in terms of relations improving that so-called recessing of relations do you think that this sort of tragedy this sort of incident can bring the countries closer together even more so now. i believe so you know the presidents have already been on a number of meetings saying that they have to fight terrorism to gather in different security alliances for example you know there is
12:52 pm
a commission within the needle and there. are national community together with russia they are coming up with solutions they're coming up with ways to counter threats like this while of course of course of course at a moment like this brings everybody together. welcomes new solutions new ideas as to how to fight it it is an international problem i mean it's admitted by everybody thanks very much indeed more reaction from you no doubt throughout the day. reporting there from washington d.c. we're just learning on the wires here that. investigators are saying that they have indeed found the body of a suspected suicide bomber all the hallmarks of a suicide bombing appear to be there plenty of shrapnel and ball bearings found at the scene as well including what's been described as the head of a man with an arabic appearance found near the scene of the blast which occurred
12:53 pm
now as we're understanding in the waiting in the hall which is very close to the baggage reclaim hall there in the arrival section of dominate every port port and this explosion occurred as you just joined us not aware of this occurring a little earlier today four thirty pm moscow time that's one thirty pm g.m.t. resulting in the death of so far thirty five. one hundred thirty at the moment that's what we're learning at the moment one hundred thirty injured and thirty five reported to be killed well at least fifty people have been taken to hospitals across the russian capital many of them in a critical condition in r.t. if you go to prison obvious outside one of those hospitals and joins me now you know how. all the hospitals well particularly the hospital where you are at the moment how are the emergency services coping what's the scene there. well first of all this attack as you say it happened and around four thirty pm which means that
12:54 pm
it was not very long before the traffic hours before the. the rush hour started in moscow so it's quite difficult to get to some of the injured to hospitals across the city they were transported to several hospitals including the medical institute which is one of the most advanced medical clinics in the city and in many cases police had to escort ambulances in order to get to the injured to medical help in hospitals as soon as possible and most of the injuries that these people received during this blast or have been caused by shrapnel. also psychological help is being given the to the survivors and to their relatives because definitely this blast and the authorities do say that this is most likely to have been an attack it was definitely a shock to many people so psychological help is being given as well out of the. around sixty people which have been hospitalized half of them are in critical
12:55 pm
condition so doctors are now working to help them. first of all and it's just quite a difficult situation at the moment and it's definitely it's definitely clear that a lot of medical attention is going to be needed in order to help these people who are prime minister putin has just declared that the government will make sure they'll provide financial help to all those who've been affected by this tragedy you although the scene where obviously many people have physical injuries or been taken to the hospital he did mention help from psychologists now presumably there are many people caught up in this terrible incident who may not even think that they need hell. at the scene and possibly go home and then be traumatized later are you saying that. anybody who was in the vicinity or affected all saw any of this to make sure they talk to somebody about this.
12:56 pm
cause an effect on a person's psychology it doesn't really. matter if the person realizes at the moment need some of the psychological trauma. they even. have the resources to provide. help to everybody needed obviously quite a lot of people. affected by this is all factored by the people that arrived to the airport the people waiting for their relatives or friends or wherever they needed to meet the. of from the witnesses. seeing. body parts. of the airport the lots of
12:57 pm
a lot of very difficult obviously. a lot of a lot of psychological help is also going to be needed a port from the direct physical help. giving. injured in that. well as you were referring to. the scene was very traumatic. on the floor it was just clearly a highly traumatic thing for anybody to be involved in and indeed were using baggage actually help the injured to the emergency services from what you've gathered. have the emergency services actually coped very. well they've obviously got there quickly and you're saying it's very difficult for them to get through the rush hour traffic to the hospitals but that they're actually response and it's as if being well received so far any criticism about emergency services. well
12:58 pm
this is something which is yet to be analyzed because at the moment everything is happening really quickly those figures even are still changing the number of the injured or the number of those in critical condition the numbers of the hospitalized people so we're still yet to get through this time to analyze what actually happened but all right from the reports yes all right thanks very much what well we'll leave it there because i'm going to have plenty more from you a little later outside one of moscow's hospitals receiving the injured from that incident that occurred earlier today so far we're saying that over fifty have been hospitalized and thirty four in critical condition thirty five killed the news continues here on our breaking news stay with us. wealthy british style holds. on to the.
