really you believe. this is all see coming to live from moscow the headline. demonstrations continue to egypt opposition movements have begun to unite under a figure out few interruptions know well one hundred el baradei the former international atomic energy agency chief is a well known internationally but he was low profile at home after being abroad so it's a good deal of their skepticism will be the man to take the place of president hosni mubarak's because toppled. where is the ukraine's prime minister what is the search for periods of the show of the citizens know his has not been

seen in public for six months. on a danish court has acquitted of free speech activist who was charged with grace and with the raises a critical comment he made about islam last had a god said to domestic violence occurred in areas dominated by islamic culture more often all but insisted its planes weren't aimed at all those lands. well those are the headlines now the second part of the i'm going to show up. well it's time for tonight's tool time award and we're giving it to lawmakers in oklahoma under a new law that's being discussed teachers would be forced to openly question in class the theory of evolution to the legislation is called h.b. fifteen fifty one and it's titled the scientific education and academic freedom act
11:32 pm
and it singled out biological evolution the chemical origins of life global warming and human cloning as the topics that are controversial and for that reason need to be questioned now this isn't the first time the oklahoma has tried to pass this law and in fact it failed several times after being introduced by republican sally current and most political circles she is considered to be a bit of a when she said homosexuality is a greater threat to the u.s. than terrorism and apparently science is also now a huge threat according to sally kohn now oklahoma's for excellence in science education have basically made fun of this bill saying that well if this august ad is just a way to discredit anybody who believes in evolution but since lawmakers there still want to question it even though it's proven why that question other issues to we already know are true you know we've all been taught that two plus two equals four right well i'm not sure about that do we really know it's four could be five i
11:33 pm
think that we should make all math teachers in oklahoma tell students of this is a controversial issue and they need to teach both sides now another fact we've all been taught over the years is that the earth is round a really have you ever driven across the state of texas arizona it's pretty damn flat so i'm not so sure so maybe all geography teachers in oklahoma need to start questioning that very controversial theory that the earth is in fact around now do you see how ridiculous i'm being i'm doing it on purpose these crazies actually believe it and that's why oklahoma lawmakers who are backing this bill that says teaching evolution is controversial and should be questioned are tonight's told time when. well by now most americans have heard of the koch brothers but do they really know who these ten two men are they're businessmen who are known for throwing their weight behind the political issues that favor their agenda and for the past eight years david and charles koch have been hosting an annual meeting with some of the wealthiest americans to figure out how to better shape u.s.
11:34 pm
policy according to their names and on this year's agenda you'll find her peeling health care reform defeating president obama in two thousand and twelve and figuring out how to give corporations more influence over our daily lives but this time around the meeting is not going on noticed artie's are among the lindo has more. i and. what was supposed to be quiet retreat in an exclusive southern california resort became a rallying cry for angry progressive's who say americans freedom and liberty are being bought and sold we don't want to have excessive money being spent to buy policy we don't mind people contributing to politics but when you're trying to buy legislators and by legislation just protect your own bottom line that's very dangerous former adviser to president obama ben jones is one of the prominent
11:35 pm
progressive's who is trying to expose billionaire brothers david and charles coax agenda to coax or trust secret means are attended by prominent lawmakers conservative pundits and other wealthy business owners said on stripping the free market of even minimal government regulation reportedly fake has done extensive research on the coax multimillion dollar efforts to repeal environmental laws but they had people contact their legislators and go to congress and. tell lawmakers to go to the clean air act and. unfortunately spend most of this morning on manipulation. here because it comes back to the bottom line the koch brothers are major funders of conservative think tanks and activist groups like americans for prosperity which helped mobilize tea party groups to the tune of forty million dollars in the twenty tank campaign this weekend strategy meeting was a victory lap of sort following the g.o.p.
11:36 pm
takeover of the house of representatives polluting our democracy and these people are saying that's unacceptable now activists are trying to take on the coax head on to stop what they say is an agenda to transform america into a right wing led their world where corporations not the people reign supreme you will not live in the next thank you another cold turkey we're not going to do that twenty five people were arrested but this simply motivated the crowd of fed up liberals the sheriff has several times threatened the protesters here with arrest and this is what's happening right now they're telling people that this essentially is illegal they're forcing people out of the way but in many ways these people are not into or they say that this is the true show of democracy not what's going on behind those closed doors that's right right wing blogger andrew breitbart showed up to defend the koch's right to assemble and to provoke the crowd and rollerblade going to knock me out do you feel. free to. just. have
11:37 pm
more of a crowd of all ages worried about the influence of such a small group of elites their motivation to expose the koch's right wing agenda comes from a real fear that a small group self interest will eventually lead to a crushing of social safety nets in america and a rollback of consumer protections the more people that become aware of it the more the means and god put it out there the more it will grow into something and actually maybe. even revolution will happen that's what we need in rancho mirage california come on galindo. the koch brothers have been holding fund raising retreats for years they've been shaping policy for years funding conservative and libertarian causes including the heritage foundation the cato institute and groups like americans for prosperity but thanks to the rise of the tea party the citizens united ruling and investigative reporting from organizations
11:38 pm
like think progress this year the koch's actions have gone public twenty five people were arrested out of what has been said to be more than one thousand activists who came to protest the gathering of the so-called billionaire's caucus in rancho mirage california but will this protest make any difference especially when you counter the millions that each coke conference only delivers david dayen from firedoglake cover the rally this weekend and is joining me now live from our studio in los angeles david thank you so much for joining us now. give me from your perspective what the scene was like this weekend i mean was there really a need for police in riot gear was there some kind of a threat of violence that was announced beforehand. well i mean that's what i asked andrew breitbart actually i said you know which where is the security threat here was a was a paper but a puppet or was it the lady with the umbrella that was pink you know i view it was a perfectly peaceful rally the law enforcement was actually pretty professional
11:39 pm
about it but i thought the riot gear the helmets the helicopters flying overhead and the baton sort a little excessive now i just mention that you know the koch brothers have long been involved in the volatile sphere they've been holding these retreats for years but it seems like in the past two years when they suddenly have a lot of attention on them a lot of you know the media spotlight is on them to what would you really credit that or who perhaps well i think there has been a lot of good investigative work you mentioned think progress and what leaf has been able to do and you've seen people you know. washington willing to finally talk about this and put this out there are all of these right wing groups that have funded the conservative movement for many many years the lead sponsor of this rally yesterday was common cause which is a washington organization that usually seeks consensus it was founded by
11:40 pm
a moderate republican it's not necessarily the kind of group that you would expect to do this kind of direct action and the fact that they did it is is significant i think and shows that liberals and democrats are looking at ways to really counter the power of the koch brothers and doing it through shining a direct spotlight but that's what i was wondering is do you think of this is just the liberals way to counter what the koch brothers are doing because it doesn't fall in line with their ideology more than you know going after at least the happen to run a lot of policy why don't we see the same kind of concern or outcry over let's say someone like george soros. well i think you do on the right but certainly i think the difference is perhaps that what we saw in the last campaign where millions of undisclosed dollars were used by groups front groups set up by you know
11:41 pm
conservative activists to spend millions and millions of dollars in these campaigns so i think that was one of the unifying themes around what i saw yesterday was talking about the breakdown of the campaign finance system i think if you ask most of the people out there do you want to get all the money out of politics you want to get money that comes by way of george soros or money that comes by way of charles and david koch they say sure we need full public financing of elections so i don't see this is contradictory very much in any way. well you know and i can imagine too right now with the economic situation that the country is in that really doesn't feel so good to know that there are millions perhaps billions of dollars flowing into some of these campaigns but do you think that protests like this might actually scare the koch brothers that all that they might even make a little dent in what it is that they've been you know but you have to look at sort
11:42 pm
of over the long term i mean last year at this time we didn't know that these meetings existed i mean we had an assumption that they did but because of some diligent work this year fifteen hundred people showed up and you know at least made them that much more uncomfortable i think that the koch brothers historically have welcomed you know doing their business out of the spotlight you know the it's just the fact that they have a lot of consumer brands things like brownie paper towels and dixie cups and you know the more that that gets known puts a little a little hit to their problem possibly to their bottom line it's not going to happen overnight but i think there's a willingness on the part of even the state you know good government consensus building groups like common cause to really shine a spotlight on what the koch brothers are doing and so in that sense perhaps it
11:43 pm
will be you know affective in the long term now of course this entire event was very secretive although you know the location was disclosed that and the rumors as to some of the people who were in attendance this year. yes we believe that house majority leader eric cantor was on hand. presidential candidate herman cain who is one of the only announced republican presidential candidates was there members of the amway fortune. and a series of other right wing billionaires there it is called the billionaires caucus after all were on hand to hear different lectures and plot strategy well the billionaires caucus i hear they even shut down the entire hotel and some activists had made reservations of the restaurant at the hotel ahead of time and that the hotel called them inconveniently had to cancel that law so it's definitely getting a lot more attention this year thanks so much for joining us david. thank you. well
11:44 pm
still to come tonight we have our show and tell segment and also the royal wedding of william and kate is turning into quite a money making scheme for some in the u.k. just ahead on what latest item they're selling to commemorate the big day that has some laughing and others serious rants and i were asking the mainstream media where the coverage is after a man is arrested outside a mosque with explosives in his car because the media not consider this terrorism so it's a subtext as wife or that the minimal. down the official ante up location to hong kong pulled touch from the. lights on the. video on demand. and omissions feeds now in the palm of your. machine
11:45 pm
on the dot com. news today violence is once again flared up. and these are the images the world has been seeing from the streets of canada. giant corporations are on the day. the more people we killed the happier our officers were it got to be like it seemed like to see you could still the most people and different ways you could keep you still looking like you know years now if you brought back someone tears you know every had the most tears they would get the most fierce each a you should be richer than a few women children and five men around the circle over know a lot of money but there are some. great like six or seven people in her family.
11:46 pm
11:47 pm
i see reports on the big banks and the potential of another financial crisis here in the us so we wanted to know if at wall street if the wall street status quo continues to go unchecked will the u.s. seen other crash and here's what some of you had to say on facebook crystal green says it quite obviously it's inevitable and unchecked wall street is a dangerous b. pauline murphy tweeted her response saying that another crash is inevitable if things carry on as they are it will be a worldwide crash. from which some will never recover and we also heard from some of our youtube viewers trademark sixty six says we live in a boom bust cycle the banks build it up so they can tear it down a mop up the profits it's similar to us foreign policy dirty flyer wrote of course we'll see another crash except this time i think it will be much worse than anything seen before the wall street bankers did not get hurt in the least by the current recession in fact most are rewarded so what is the incentive for them to do
11:48 pm
anything different now of course as always thank you for sending us your thoughts we appreciate your responses and here's our next issue for those of you at home by now most people have seen the riots and the political unrest that's been taking place in egypt and you've probably also seen the obama administration's maker responses to what's going on in the country so we want to know how do you see the us is feeble response and how does it look to the rest of the world so answer a question do you think of the united states to take a more pronounced stance on the situation in egypt you can respond to us on facebook twitter and you tube and who knows your response just might make it on air . now in april the world we watching as prince william and kate middleton hold the royal wedding in london where all watchers have been waiting for the wedding for years the couples dated for nine years so england is more than ready for this event and as you can imagine there's also been a huge rush to cash in on this wedding memorabilia is flying off the store shelves
11:49 pm
and online you can buy pictures shirts plates just to name a few all to celebrate this april twenty ninth wedding but royal watchers are none too happy about the latest item that's about to hit the shelves take a look at crown jewels that's right condoms are being sold in packs of three and they have a picture of the royal couple on the front and according to the manufacturer they are lavishly lubed and it really writ but it gets even better the special celebration pack urges. lovers to lie back and think of england and bear the slogan like a royal wedding intercourse with a loved one is an unforgettable occasion those are their words not mine as you can imagine and not everybody is entirely happy with the condoms some of called this offensive and tasteless but the company says the contraceptives are very unique way to remember the occasion they would be a good memento for the wedding day crown jewels has stressed that its special
11:50 pm
contraceptives are not supplied to or approved by prince william he's his fiance or the role family and so far buckingham palace is also being silent they've refused to comment but personally i want to make a comment on this one i'm all for the crown jewels of remote safe sex everybody gets laid then why not some of you brits just chill out it's just having a little fun with a very big real way. how did you know that last week and next army veteran from california was arrested for driving to detroit the largest mosque with a trunk full of explosives roger staubach m sixty three had driven from california to michigan and had been drinking in a detroit bar on monday when he threatened to do harm to detroit area mosque and a bar employee followed them outside wrote down his license plate and called detroit police police then found the man inside of his car outside the islamic center of america where more than five hundred members were gathered for
11:51 pm
a funeral and in his car he had a load of m. eighty s. and other explosives in the truck now whatever damage he was planning was averted thanks to all forty's but the mainstream media has completely ignored this story now just imagine if the same thing happened but the perpetrator was a muslim man his mugshot would be on every t.v. screen every hour so what does that tell you about our media culture joining me to discuss it is georgetown university professor and author of the blog revenge christopher chambers chris thanks so much for being here now are you with me on this what it means. you know we've had a lot of these. terror plots that have been boiled recently in the last couple months over the last year and we've seen a lot of those mug shots plastered on our t.v.'s where the news talks about it day and night nonstop. and here it was nothing but i think that if he were a muslim man they were outside of a church that had five hundred people inside of a different situation i think so i mean but you can't it's a lot more complicated than just saying racism or anti muslim bias because our
11:52 pm
media is set up for their time by local t.v. stations in michigan or wherever or national satellite and cable networks for quick for the quick hit quick segment stereotypical kind of set up because it plays on our fears of outside muslim terrorism or even better the enemy within this so-called radicalization of american muslims that hasn't been proven yes you've had these you know these these these examples you know in oregon and major nidal at fort hood but by and large when they've done polling and even the f.b.i. as you know when they do a little background of american muslims people are content people are patriotic people are just trying to survive but that doesn't fit into the production mode of our american media that plays on fear otherwise it becomes a crime story it's an older white male it oh he's part of our community if it's a young somali man he's outside of the community and what's ironic is this mosque
11:53 pm
is one of the largest in america there have been middle eastern people arabs christian druze in detroit for eon where you can't tell them apart from the average of troy or so they're very even thought of as outside of the american fold so i mean why isn't there more coverage well there's still muslims even though they've been in detroit forever and have michigan accents they're still muslims so we don't cover them as careful well i also think it says a lot about our politicians our lawmakers that are also incredibly. outspoken and we've heard a lot from we have people like representative peter king is now going to hold hearings on the radicalization of islam but you know we don't have any hearings on just homegrown terrorism as a whole on the radicalization of other people this man for example the suspect here had made threats to george w. bush in the past threats you know he had written online using a fake muslim name right i thought they were you know monitoring the wrong people
11:54 pm
and yeah yeah well there's that is interesting in the movie the town john hamm was a federal agent is monitoring ben affleck and these days these bank robbers do so if they convert to islam i could get twenty four hour surveillance on them but don't know but then they're just regular criminals he's just a regular lunatic regular lunatics are not sexy they're not you know if you have to be you have to assign some research and some thought in a production meeting or a tauriel meeting to figure out what makes him tick if he was a young somali man we can hear on the stereotypes we don't need to go into any depth we can play on the outside fear peter king could have his his you know his is his hearings and they're not going to really say anything you're not going to find anything but it plays on fear fear sells that's what they talk about the production meeting in the editorial meetings i mean it's as simple as that really and the authorities i think are well aware of that as well because you know when we had some of these sting operation like in colorado for example this is something that
11:55 pm
the authorities were more than happy to brag about here's a man who was arrested a week ago last monday didn't even bother telling anybody about it until friday and then the people in the mosque were sitting there going well who's the next lunatic that's going to come along i mean and you know if you can relate this to the coverage in tucson and then the tire media rigamarole about well is it is it incited by the political climate or is this the lone lunatic i mean of course the environment has an effect on people like this it sets them off on some level and they go from. for you detroit to blow muslims up and you know and we've also spoken about this before and the sense that the media of something is a little too complicated they also just like to drop it right we saw it about the really embarrassing coverage of the iraq war and i made up four percent of coverage last year and you know even if you look at the bombings in moscow last monday the idea that the airport i think i mean granted yes there is a revolution happening in egypt so
11:56 pm
a lot of the media has been focusing on that but i didn't hear anything about moscow after one day right because it's. really it becomes a crime story and that interest some people are wrong to clean become so monday's crime stories become someone doing that we just see over our heads but here we have fear we have an out you know outsiders or the in or the enemy within talking about muslims either local or you know across the ocean that makes it sexy that means you can be a little easier on your coverage and in terms of the production in terms of the research but then you've said treat the news with it you know so want to be lazy in terms of the production i mean you don't have to put a thought into it you can blast those stereotypes out everybody gets scared you get the ratings this crime stories are a little bit more complicated a little bit more boring ironically now very quickly i just had a discussion on the new york times coming out of the paywall saying a yes or no do you think that it's actually going to work i think it's going to work people want the content it's going to work i mean the average person the net
11:57 pm
neutrality the net is being cut up for rich and poor people anyway rich people are going to pay for poor people are going to be cut out well we will see what happens chris thanks so much for joining us now for we go to now we have our tweet of the day former secretary of defense donald rumsfeld is going to receive the defender of the constitution award at c pac yes the exact same reinfeldt rumsfeld who pushed for torture while mismanaging two wars said tonight our tweet to see pak is argue. me he's a war criminal that's it for tonight's show thanks for two. c.n.n. make sure to come back tomorrow we'll have michael boris the host of catholic television's the one true faith and the vortex on the program to explain why he thinks the u.s. needs a christian dictatorship in the meantime don't forget to become a fan of a lot of show on facebook and of follow us on twitter and if you missed any of tonight's show or any other night you can always catch all the you tube dot com flashed on a show or replace the interviews as well as the show in its entirety coming up next as the news with the latest headlines from the u.s.
