indeed do i slunk straight from those headlines now the second part of the i don't know is coming up next. tonight's tool time award goes to a man who is all about fear mongering and warmongering and bobbing in everything scary and bad basically you see there is no massive news event that goes without comment these days and that's especially true for former u.n. ambassador john bolton he's been featured several times on this program in the past for his ridiculous comments and he's back on another one this time relating to each act he's one of the few public figures who've actually spoken out in favor of a barak's regime and he was on sean hannity's radio program talking about the ripple effect of a new democratic government take over in egypt so somehow the man who loves to push the idea of bombing iran has tied his mission into egypt revolts tell my not
11:31 pm
surprised just take a listen to this. do you think that the israelis are going to have the. strike it is going to be they are going to have to take action in other words the world don't seem to be supporting them as you pointed out a birthday. you know grand cover for the iranians for all those years that he was guilty. and i just don't think the israelis have much longer to wait i mean either we're going to live in a world with a nuclear iran and a threat to their very existence or they're going to have to act in fairly short order and i think that. if you get all that basically bolton thinks that the potential successor to mubarak mohamed el baradei i as a secret agent for iran and that would leave israel with only days left to bomb iran before the secret spy comes into power i mean that is really scary stuff john bolton but why don't i feel like we've been in this situation before do you
11:32 pm
remember when russia helped the wrong with the shipment of nuclear fuel to start iran's first nuclear reactor. you're rainy and once those fuel rods are very close to the reactor certainly once they're in the reactors you say attacking it means a release of radiation no question about it so if israel's got to do anything against here it has to move in the next eight days if they don't. well let's just say it's been more than eight days and we're still here so come on bolton and nobody's buying your b.s. rhetoric anymore i would love to see your method of thinking of just just to find out why everything was you were volves around bombing iran a tree could fall the woods and you would say bomb iran a random book printed in iran can be found in the arizona desert and you in fox news will talk about the need to bomb iran and i'll stop now but let's be honest here if israel bombed iran this would have serious implications for the entire world we have no need for more wars so since you're so consistent in your calls for
11:33 pm
blowing up iran you've won the coveted title of tonight's tool time winner. now most of the world has been glued to the t.v. this week watching the watching the coverage of protests in egypt and some of the pictures coming out of cairo are coming from state run t.v. but did you know that the us has its own state run media and in fact u.s. taxpayers are funding seven government channels that broadcast around the world to shrinking audiences artie's kalen for reports on whether or not the u.s. funded media is still making an impact worldwide. since one thousand nine hundred forty two the us has broadcasted its culture and politics around the world. out to full weight. transmitting in over fifty languages to the tune of seven hundred forty five point five million dollars per year but what happens when people just start tuning out
11:34 pm
more and more u.s. funded media outlets designed to promote america's image abroad are channels in search of an audience but taxpayers are still footing the bill and there are many homes the russians in. america has sunk one billion dollars into al huda an arabic language news network author and professor phil sievert says the network's model is stuck in the past when american news was welcomed by sam the competition is within the arab world dominated by zero zero. zero. that there really isn't much of what audience outside of iraq. fifty three percent watch al-jazeera while only half a percent of arab viewers watch al korda here which is broadcast from suburban springfield virginia its credibility and the arab audience for the most war wants to hear about themselves from other arabs critics say that from day one there was

11:36 pm
based channels quote failure over many years to adhere to generally accepted journalistic standards i'm old i'm bloody well but i'm not i'm talking about a radio show that tells people to go into cuban leaders from the point of view of journalistic ethics it's very troubling but he may have had a fifteen million dollars budget in two thousand and eight to pay cuban dissidents on the island as its reporters and rent fuel in flight to gulfstream planes that circled violent to broadcast t.v. martinis and the u.s. isn't just paying for news u.s. state department dollars also finance eagle for an afghan police drama former marine j. dilla barito says shows like this send a subconscious message to support the military support the police force in this sort of thing and in many ways it does on a broad scale what twenty four did here in the united states ten years into the u.s. war in afghanistan deliberate though says forty five percent of the media is run by rupert murdoch's news corp. creators of twenty four
11:37 pm
a series designed to drum up support for the war on terror in the u.s. twenty four was also created to support the doctrine of torture much of much of eagle force propaganda inside of afghanistan is trying to mimic that trying to say that confronting insurgents and confronting terrorists and what it is is a good thing and afghans you support but what's on screen in afghanistan contrasts with the reality offscreen with little sign of afghan support with a staggering one point four trillion dollar deficit at home and propose cuts in. anything from medicaid to education some americans are saying that we should switch out of international broadcasting and let the rest of the world watch what they would be watching anyway and ford r.t. washington d.c. . you know there are about a million ways to end your marriage but a guy in britain has taken the term spiteful to an entirely new level u.k.
11:38 pm
immigration officer tried to rid himself of his wife by adding her name to a list of terrorist suspects and so he used his access to security databases to include his wife on a watch list of those banned from boarding flights to britain because their presence in the country is quote not conducive to the public good and as a result his wife who was visiting family in pakistan wasn't allowed to return to the u.k. per three years she had to spend three years trying to prove who she was and that she was not a terror was terrorist traveling to and from pakistan now that is cold for get this list tampering went undetected until the unnamed officer was selected for promotion and then the woman's name was found on the suspects list during a vetting inquiry and one question the officer confessed to his manipulation of the watch list now the home office with which is in charge of security in the country has confirmed that he had been sacked for gross misconduct but london newspapers are asking questions about the efficiency of the u.k.
11:39 pm
border agency the organization for nearly three years ago to take over all immigration controls and rightly so what immigration officer is able to put is a strange wife on a list and nobody seems to notice that her three years something is wrong so i'm guessing that this divorce hearing is going to be very early. now there are many critiques differing opinions out there as a states of america's democracy what's gone wrong how it can be fixed there are those who feel that the government has become too big too powerful needs to be curtailed others who feel that special interests individuals and corporations with billions to throw around are running the country and tailoring it to their elite tastes but here's a very different perspective. i want to welcome to the vortex where lies and false foods are trapped in exposed by michael boris there's an inherent problem with democracy actually it's definitional it's this everyone gets to vote that's right
11:40 pm
everyone gets to vote consider for a moment the informed get to vote those who have studied the candidates and issues and consider the impact on not only themselves but the society at large but in addition to the informed the ignorant get to vote as well those who have studied nothing and don't care about anything except themselves and their own narrow interests. now in this video michael force even offers a plan on how to fix the problems of this type of democracy. no the only way to run a country is by benevolent dictatorship a catholic monarch who protects his people from themselves and be stolz on them what they need not necessarily what they want. now i'm not quite sure that i think a catholic dictator is such a good idea but i do want to hear more on exactly how this would work so joining me to tell us about it is michael vora senior executive producer of real catholic t.v.
11:41 pm
michael thanks so much for joining us now first and foremost afore we get any further i have to ask you are you serious or was this thing meant to be a joke. well it depends what you mean by serious in the terms which i mean by a joke one of the things we do it real catholic t.v. is we bring up issues one part that you left out actually the in the clip signer stand it's a limited time frame you can't show everything but the thrust of this piece was that in a democracy and even as the founding fathers said it with the absence of morality or the downplaying of morality in something like a democracy without the presence of virtuous voters your democracy will fall apart and that was the the entire point of the piece so you know socrates plato talked about this and talked about having a philosopher king that that would be the best form of the best form of government there is and when you talk about a democracy what is democracy it's kind of a compromise really it's sort of the best compromise we can have when we deal with questions like fall in human nature you know people people are inherently selfish i
11:42 pm
don't think anybody would really disagree with that we kind of look out for number one sometimes we're able to step outside of ourselves and look up you know look for you know the good of others of the good of society but there's always a sort of selfish inherent things first so that the point of the piece was just that and some people looked at it and said oh my goodness you know you're rolling out and having you know being able to give everyone a chance to vote and give iran the chance to vote well we already do that in this democracy right now there's two and a half million people sitting in jail who aren't allowed to vote why aren't they allowed to vote well because the we as a as the people outside of jail have decided they're not virtuous enough to vote so the idea that well michael i want you should stand here on exactly what it is that that virtue means how do you tell if somebody is virtuous and i'm not a catholic but does that mean that i should be allowed to vote and that i'm not virtuous enough well. not necessarily but again you're going to have said the only
11:43 pm
catholics would be allowed to vote. well i'm presenting it as the point of law first i didn't say only catholics i said only some count what should be allowed to vote because not all cowslips are virtuous oh ok so that so i get it for those that are covering up or have certain sexual abuse as within the catholic church they're not included in the voting just well not well about them certainly but even beyond doubt i mean look when when somebody approaches with them when we turn over to ourselves and collectivized the issue that that you know how are we going to rule ourselves are we going to decide how our money is taken from us and givens what causes it all that i mean america isn't a democracy america is an oligarchy right now there are five hundred thirty five people who essentially five hundred thirty six people who essentially decide how the united states is going to run we vote them into place and then they make all kinds of decisions for us and the on the level of where we the common people get to vote you and me your listeners all of that. that comes down to how are we making
11:44 pm
that decision well if we're making that decision based on a bunch of politicians standing up saying you know vote for me and your life is your life individual life is going to be better well that's not necessarily a virtuous way to decide to vote in the last thirty eight years there are fifty six million people for example between the ages of one and thirty eight missing from the population while it may be voted in people who said ok let's let's legalize abortion so we voted for people who put people on the supreme court who said this is ok so now we're reaping the benefits or the rewards if you want to call it that rewards and quotes are reaping the rewards of that by saying ok we have fifty six million young people under forty missing from the population and yet social security doesn't have enough young people feeding into it. plus being very menacing the motor is because abortion is legal you know i don't want to enter say explain to me in your video why it is or you do talk about abortion that you always seem to point to men and say that you know the only reason that some people want to force them to be legal as to the man can go out and sleep around with whoever they want
11:45 pm
how do you just take the woman completely out of the picture here i mean what about women that have had sex against their will is somebody who that may come pregnant should they have the right to have an abortion. no no you shouldn't have the right to kill another human being because you want to live a certain way no you shouldn't that's going to why did you not mention women in your piece well i'm not sure in this particular piece yes in this video but i feel let's move on to dictators because we don't need to talk about abortion you and i why is it that you mean this is where america is all right excuse me then we do need to talk about abortion i mean that you know it's not the only issue but you know it's probably the major issue as you know if this one hundred twenty years it's something that always shocks me you know as to the fact that it is such a divisive political issue in this country and that so many politicians actually use it to try to paint others you know and say that they are lacking in character lacking in virtue of study but why would america country that well it's not even a direct democracy right this is i guess you could say
11:46 pm
a republic we have representatives why do we need a dictator why would we need one person telling us what to do that's what the founders fought against was not a question of the of of it in america wouldn't be america under the idea of a republic to be american to the idea of some sort of what you know plato and socrates put forward as a philosopher king a good noble person who would not make his decisions as we hope the government would not make decisions based on selfish interests but in the interests of what encountered social teaching has always been considered the common good a term that gets used and charlie around a lot and misunderstood. misapplied thought about you know checks and balances the constitution the fact that like i said that there isn't supposed to be one person telling us what to do. well i'm that's just that's a form of government and a and that's what we're under right now i'm not saying that you could take these two forms of government and combine them somehow i'm saying that one is better than the other if you had a benevolent if you had a benevolent. leader ruler monarch whatever you want to call him or her and they
11:47 pm
were and their interest was to be to truly impart a nobility to the average person i think that would be a better a better form of government are my thoughts are actually i we're out of time i do want to thank you for joining us but you know there are some countries out there that are theocracy and they're happy you know you could try those out if you feel like it thank you so much for joining us well thank you thank you very much. still to come on tonight's show is super bowl weekend the last set up off the fans should enjoy that because this next season is in doubt over a contract dispute between players and owners so will taxpayers again get stuck footing the bill for empty stadiums while the rich just get to whine about their salaries but it's just that when the.

you know. your football fan in the us then you know that impending doom is upon the league but this sunday's super bowl could be the last game of two thousand and eleven and if you're not a fan let me tell you it players and owners are in a heated labor dispute with the collective bargaining agreement expiring at the beginning of march owners want more money than their contract with the players affords and they're willing to cancel next year's season altogether to force a new deal they say that they're seeing diminishing returns to their investments due to player costs growing faster than actual revenue but players who are now have a pretty sweet deal when it comes to salaries don't want to see them go so they've asked owners to open up their books and prove it which the owners have refused to do it's really all of a complicated mess but let's talk about why it matters the n.f.l. is an eight billion dollars business no season means lost jobs struggling sports
11:51 pm
bars and a very big ripoff for those cities and taxpayers that has spent billions on fancy stadiums so in this economy and n.f.l. lockout is the last thing that america needs here to discuss it with me is brian frederick executive director of sports fans dot org ryan thanks so much for being my pleasure now in this entire situation is there is there a good guy at a bad guy when we compare the players and the owners or you know is this entire mess kind of a big you know middle. to the american people or to the people who are fans and who might lose money on this situation i think we're all in this together it's really something that people tend to frame it as billionaires versus millionaires but really what it is it's the owners versus the players versus the fans and we have helped build this game into the great american n.f.l. game that it is and without a season it would be a loss for everybody and that's why you know we have as fans have put in six and a half billion dollars at least in the n.f.l.
11:52 pm
stadiums that's why we're really in the front like saying hey we need to wake up if this season is canceled it's going to hurt everybody now there are some figures that have been thrown out around there the n.f.l. pay said that every city could lose one hundred sixty million dollars in fact checking websites are disputing that but do we have any kind of number to really put our finger on as to who might be hurt how much might be lost well there were there will certainly be losers and we know that a certain number that we know like i said is six billion that we've already invested what happens is n.f.l. owners will say that you know if you don't build this new stadium we're going to take our team to los angeles are going to take our team to another market and so then cities have to fork over millions and millions of dollars so as a result we've already put in billions in the n.f.l. stadium so i think that's the key number that we need to really focus on the fact that we've already built this game built these stadiums up and now the owners and the players are both willing to say hey it's more important that we argue about the money than that we don't fill the stadiums that we don't fill the stadium bars and
11:53 pm
districts around around the stadiums that's important well especially you know i feel like it's during this time during an economic time of crisis like this like we're experiencing america where almost ten percent of people are still unemployed you think about the sports bars that are filled up every single sunday i mean this is something that the people in need people need to be fans they need to have something to relax and celebrate about when everything else sucks absolutely you know in these tough times. and let's be real there are tough times this is something that is an escape for people like you say this is something that you know people can really come together and celebrate their team and if suddenly that is taken away i mean you know they've lost a lot of people have lost jobs they've lost money they've lost their houses and now you're going to take my favorite n.f.l. team out of it's really too bad let's say that this that they don't come to an agreement let's say that a lockout does happen do you think that people might turn against the owners or perhaps even the players i mean these guys make you know i think the average salary
11:54 pm
is almost eight hundred thousand dollars a year some of them are making millions of dollars a year i would imagine that would make some people really upset and they're just you know completely overpaid athletes yeah absolutely i think that the fans will will actually do something in the long run we've actually launched a petition at save next season dot com because we're trying to save the next season and so once we get enough people to sign the petition and save next season then we can you know we can start to focus on the actions that will take if it does come to the point where were we start missing games any idea why they waited until the last minute to deal with this i mean they've known since since two thousand and eight and they reach their last agreement that this moment was coming why did they have to really push it down to the wire well they've actually been fighting for two years and the n.f.l. has put two and a half million dollars into spending on congress in the last two years into lobbying congress and the n.f.l. players were just up on the hill on wednesday you know using their star power a little bit to try and make their case but the fans you know i've met with senate
11:55 pm
staff and i've met with the white house recently and we're really trying to make the case that the fans are going to be the ones that pay the ultimate that congress should really step in here well i don't think that congress should step in nobody wants congress to step in that's why it's up for the fans to the fans to really get involved and do something about it and that's why you know people need to go to sports fans thought to work so we can all sort of unite into one giant voice and then we can do something and congress will. if there is no grand jury and that's that's why the fellows spent so much money that's why the players are up on the hill and that's why we're also working on it while they're expecting one hundred million people to tune in this super bowl sunday you know that's a message if any to both the players and the owners we'll see what happens brian thanks so much for joining us absolutely before we go tonight it's time for our tweet of the day egyptian president hosni mubarak delivered a speech today saying that he would not not seek reelection this september after massive protests now we already know what the tea party is going to be tweeting
