a matter of perspective you know if you're in iran and you feel that the united states is about to tackle you and you work as a plumber and you have three kids and you just try to take care of your living you are going to view the united states as a bad guy because they're planning on attacking you i mean this is been pretty much what's been addressed in regards to the number of civilian deaths in afghanistan but on the other side you know you take a look at. some of the good documentaries that have come out of afghanistan you get to really understand what these u.s. soldiers are doing down there they believe in the cause that they're doing and they believe that they're trying to do something good nobody is to say that this person is right and this person is wrong it's just a matter of what the situation is dictated and the legions of people that are making decisions that is kind of caused these conflicts but the people involved in them might not be the true aggressor there's a number of different facets to it and that they're not pointing to saying that americans are bad or iranians are bad i'm saying the situation is bad you know of

course that debates about how much violence there is and video games has been really heated over the last couple of years especially what's your take on is there an impact on from these video games onto what happens in real life especially like you mention of. ghana stand we've seen over the last year or so videos released of us soldiers when they're shooting and killing people use language that would be more relevant for a video game so what do you think about that if i'm in a situation i can't really talk to anyone from in a situation and i'm shooting and i feel like i'm getting attacked i'm going to use any language i want to do in order to kind of get myself out of that situation there's so much psychology kind of going on there in terms of it's you know it's kill or be killed if that is the situation that you are going to do whatever it takes to physically mentally emotionally get yourself to that level to be able to survive but you don't think if you play video games where it's a situation of kill or be killed cannot you know impact the fact that in real life

you start you start thinking like that as well not necessarily war i think definitely if you take it out of proportions then you are going to get affected but in terms of violence in video games the way i kind of look at it so different in violence in movies it doesn't make me want to go out and kind of kill someone it is it is a form of entertainment games are just as much a form of entertainment i think a big focus is being on young people playing these games and then the effect that it could have if you look at the rating system it's supposed to be for people over the age of eighteen if a person is a terrorist for many hours throughout the days in the game. or is he not more likely to go out and shoot people in the street i would say would be what would you consider to be more dangerous the video game or the gun that the person can actually get their hands on the fact that these violent crimes we're talking about you know if they don't take place necessarily as much around the rest of the world in my opinion is a direct link to the number of weapons that exist in this country compared to

abroad allowing people to get guns readily is far more damaging than letting people play video games that have these actual actions play out do you think it's the violence that attracts so many and this possibility do everything you want that you're not going to get. for when you would get punished for these things in real life is that why these your games are so popular well i mean there's definitely the factor of escapism the fact that you can actually go on and be somebody else and you can do things without really having the consequences of real life saying that i think one of the greatest thing about the grand theft auto games as well as a number of the other games that i've worked on is that they've got a great sense of humor in it you know like you're kind of laughing as you're doing some of these things because it's you've got somebody next to you making continual jokes and comments i mean it's meant to be entertaining it's not meant to actually appeal to a violent side of you returning to one nine hundred seventy nine and playing this game do you think it can affect american psyche when you know an american teenager

for example or someone who's more grown up playing this game do you think they might start thinking differently about iran than for example what they're seeing in the media and papers and so on absolutely i mean the one of the main objective use was to start some kind of social dialogue. amongst people who are going to play it not just in the west but around the world things aren't so black and white when you are able to understand the side of the victim as well as the side of the aggressor in many situations what we see in the news is just one aspect of of the story but i think often we've seen when that story has actually been looked at and put under a microscope that there's a lot of other things going on there's been quite a bit of controversy about this game call of duty modern warfare two there is episode in there where a terrorist attacks people at a russian airport obviously it's a game but we just saw terror acts take place in
