well again this is see the headline. egyptian president hosni mubarak refuses to stand down and val's to stay in office until september but some power will be transferred to his vice president almost silly this speech was not well received by protesters in cairo who ruptured into angry chunks against him president obama has sharply criticized the egyptian government and called slow play it poff to democracy. also russia's president pays a surprise visit to a train station discovering major security lapses following the visit he ordered the calm of the country law enforcement agencies to probe the fed transport systems
11:31 pm
the president to transport security on days pass no control up to last month terrorist attack it was demanded about which code section sixty. and german chancellor angela merkel faces questions about a military and a strike which killed dozens of civilians in afghanistan almost three years and that up to eight hundred forty two people were killed dozens of them civilians as a result of this trying to field time hi charlie brown taliban minute. now back to washington football to all that with a look at why the state of mississippi. well it's time for tonight's tool time award and you see there's a fight for a new mississippi over a special license plate to honor confederate general nathan bedford forrest the
11:32 pm
mississippi sons of confederate veterans want to sponsor a series of state issued license plates to mark the one hundred and fifty eighth anniversary of the civil war or some down south like to refer to it as the war between the states or my personal favorite the war of northern aggression now the group proposes a different design each year between now and two thousand and fifteen with general forrest slated for twenty fourteen but there's one little tiny problem with general nathan bedford for it's past you see he was a grand wizard in the klu klux klan after the civil war so obviously the thought of honoring a member of the k.k.k. isn't really sitting well with everybody the end of lacey if he calls the move stupid i would call it something a little bit worse than that and some of the sane residents of the state are also none too happy about the idea they've started a facebook group called mississippians against the commemoration of grand wizard nathan forrest and they created a drawing of what it could look like complete with
11:33 pm
a hooded klansman and the center of a regular mississippi car tag so to prove the point of the tag is a bad idea we decided to come up with a few other suggestions on how states out there could alter their residents who have questionable pasts how about california getting a play honoring charles manson i mean yeah he killed people but was he really just fighting crime in his own way i think it all depends on who you ask now down in florida you know there is a huge jewish population so should maybe the state offer up a hitler plates yeah hitler was evil and tried to eliminate the jewish population but sure there are some crazies out there who are supporters of him. and wish he was a resident of their state now what about timothy mcveigh in oklahoma should they get a plate for me yeah he blew up a federal courthouse killed people but he was fighting for states' rights so maybe he should be honored to now back to mississippi obviously these last three suggestions that we offered up were offensive and over the top and that's the whole
11:34 pm
point why why would mississippi even consider a plate to honor a man who is a member of the k.k.k. especially in celebration of the civil war it's offensive that honors decades of racist murders and that's why the sons of confederate veterans are tonight's tool time winners. now in the latest chapter of wiki leaks vs the world seems as if efforts to take down the whistle blowing site have been marred yet again now we told you last week about the firm h.b. gary federal being hacked by anonymous a group that's defending the efforts of wiki leaks well turns out the that company has actually been working with two other firms barrak zero technologies and helen tear to create a secret master plan to tear apart the whistle blowing web site to their course of action was so well produced the bank of america was even conferring with these three corporations to ensure that the website would be dismantled before any scarring info from the bank would be revealed to the world but alas their efforts
11:35 pm
of failed because we managed to get a copy of the twenty four page slideshow detailing this takedown so of course we got our hands on the responses they're calling it we just had to share it with everybody because some parts of this thing are absolutely ridiculous first starters they've created a full profile on julian assange listing all of his personal information of the charges that he's facing which you know i guess that part makes sense but it's so painfully basic that anybody who reads a newspaper would already know this stuff did they really need a powerpoint and here's where the plan gets fun they've set up a diagram listing all of the people. involved in wiki leaks so there's more than just the signs on this page they've listed volunteers former volunteers specialists and journalists and they've even created some diagrams on who's still on good terms with the website who's a disk run told former employee for example somebody who can be infiltrated and efforts of bringing down the site now one journalist in particular seems to have
11:36 pm
caught their attention glenn greenwald the salon dot com writer and blogger has continuously spoken out in support of wiki leaks son bradley manning so he's not become one of their main targets they label greenwald as a liberal bent who played a critical role in the transition of wiki leaks away from amazon where the site first accepted donations for its efforts but the response plan also says the greenwald is such a key player that if he's taken out of the picture the site would fold wow who knew that one outspoken activist journalist could be the downfall of this entire site and what exactly do they mean by taken out i think glenn has done some very fabulous reporting on these issues he'll probably take it as a compliment that they see him as such a threat but moving on they list where the current servers are located and the ip address where fresh information comes to the website and here's the part that we
11:37 pm
just find hilarious this next flight slide they have this picture this is a top secret bunker located somewhere in sweden it's the hope of the that's the i a speech that hosts wiki leaks but they would all think of this looks like something straight out of a movie i mean it's a cool picture but what are these people supposed to do with a picture of a bunker anyway any good plan needs a good strategy right so here you have it what are these berms that need to take wiki leaks down all according to their strategy speed is crucial they must act quickly before anybody develops a way to block their efforts. well sorry to break it to you guys but it looks like you really didn't move fast out of the powerpoint presentation is already available in full form on the wiki leaks page in case anybody at home wants a more thorough read through of their response plan so hoops gives these high tech firms have been stumped once again by scientists organization and i know they're making this sound like a joke but the fact that journalists are being targeted here is disturbing and
11:38 pm
we're going to look further into that tomorrow we interview jane hampshire. now after the tragic shooting in tucson arizona last month the gun debate once again took center stage but the most important question brought up was not how to change the constitution and take the second amendment right away from americans it was how to keep guns out of the hands of americans that are mentally unfit to carry them and that's where our government and our national system falls terribly short according to a report conducted by the national center for state courts and the national consortium for justice information answer to sticks more than two million people with disqualifying mental illness records have yet to be entered into the national instant criminal background check system two million people so why is this happening well brad jacobson of raw story that investigation found a mix of bureaucracy a lack of funding and a whole lot of politics play here he joins me now to discuss his findings brad
11:39 pm
thanks so much for joining us now brad i'm just curious two million that mentally ill people are not in our database that really is a staggering statistic is that what led you to do the investigation here once you found that number or did you start before that. i started looking at existing gun laws and i came across this report that was cited by the brady center to prevent gun violence ironically the day before the tucson shooting just by chance they happened to come out this press release citing this report. and the report you know stating that over two million people who are legally dangerously mentally ill or or their records are missing from the system and i just thought that was a shocking number and that's sort of the jumping off point for the investigation well i'm totally with you there that it is a very shocking number now clear there isn't just one factor that comes into play here but let's start with you know insufficient funding and how much this has can
11:40 pm
with it. if you talk to different gun control advocates including mayors against america against illegal guns which is near michael bloomberg group. they you know different advocates have different reasons one of them is the underfunding they are really trying to focus a lot of attention on that they came out with a press release and mayor bloomberg has you know made the rounds about the fact that only five percent five point three percent of the funding for this bill since this law since it's been passed and signed into law in two thousand and eight only five percent of the funding has been availed to the states to you know begin the process of helping them report these records so it's a very complicated process and it's a law as i mentioned in the piece it's a really a wall of bureaucracy and that's definitely one part of it well five percent is
11:41 pm
definitely. chump change that's nothing do you think that there is some kind of a political motivation i doubt that's something also that marilyn briggs office is trying to push is that perhaps congress is doing this on purpose you know that they say they offer the funding but at the same time they don't want laws like this to take place so they'll just keep postponing it and not really governor give the money. exactly mayor bloomberg is definitely definitely believes that is the case he recently showed up on rachel maddow show last week and said that congress is sort of talking out of two sides of their mouths on this subject they're trying to act tough on gun laws and at the same time they're they're saying as he said wink wink you know don't worry we're not going to fund it but if you talk to other gun control groups specifically the most one the most prominent ones the brady center they believe it's more brocker see and the fact of it's difficult to get all this
11:42 pm
stuff into motion for example you know it's kind of hard to. start collecting records if you don't even if you don't even know where to begin. and you don't even know who has the record and you don't even know how to centralize these records between states and counties. but also the coalition to stop gun violence figured from the beginning of this legislation they had an issue with it because they knew that they felt that this was not going to be found that in most other groups except for the bridge center believe that just they just didn't believe it was going to be funded and in addition to that there is a provision here that sweeten the deal for the n.r.a. which allowed people who are on the nics system the national background system to get off and before this amendment to it if you were mentally adjudicated adjudicated mentally ill you were in the system and you were not getting out of the system so this amendment allowed people to be getting other psychiatric evaluation
11:43 pm
and if they were deemed ok to get off they can get off of i mean it definitely sounds like a complicated system but also a lot of gross negligence all around here and it's no laughing matter that two million people are now not in this database you know any time we during your investigation did you find any other way for this to be done i mean does this you know give proof to the fact that maybe this should be taken out of the government's hands or it's never going to be fixed. well one of the overarching things i found in this situation is that our gun laws are unbelievably poor and you know when this event in tucson happened a lot of politicians you know showed up everywhere saying we just need to you know this is this isn't about anything but. making sure that the laws on the books are followed but if you talk to people who are experts on this and you study it you realize that all of our gun laws are extremely porous you know even this
11:44 pm
amendment to this amendment was was. went through after the virginia tech massacre and it went through after that because the shooter and the individual massacre who killed thirty two people he had already been adjudicated mentally ill a judge yet he was able to get guns because state of virginia didn't send in his records so the amendment it's still not voluntary it's still everything is still up to the states if they want to do it all the amendment did was to incentivize. states to begin sending in these records i would say sounds like a horrible problem here in an event of the day if you look at it even jared lochner he wouldn't even been prevented to buy a gun according to our laws because he he wasn't mentally. well thank you so much for joining us on this. now still to come tonight here in the u.s. we like to proclaim our free speech but that's not always the case when an artist

from. cars. on the on. this street still keeps it secrets but now it's time to move feel that the soviet files . keaton says just like. free speech is one of the pillars of democracy right and the first amendment of the constitution says that congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech returns of that there is an exception to that basic right and that's what it involves sex and religion and art and a recent trip to the national portrait gallery one of the most well known taxpayer funded museums religion superceded free speech parties christine for souths planes

. it's a glimpse of life in modern day america and you could say it bears all works like this have led some to call the heidsieck exhibition at the smithsonian's national portrait gallery unprecedented the first of its kind groundbreaking since it deals with the like homosexuality lust struggle and religion well actually not religion at least not anymore turns out some people found this work of art a video called fire in my belly offensive. the video was actually shown inside the national portrait gallery as part of the exhibition for more than a month no complaint but then the group started complaining a blog exploded and in less than twenty four hours the video was banned and now this trailer this kind of thing censorship. i mean.
11:49 pm
if you don't like things don't look at them instead of diverting their gaze a handful of people mostly conservative and religious activists want to prevent anyone from st they contacted members of congress who are sympathetic to them who then threaten the smithsonian's funding over eleven seconds of video in a four minute work those eleven seconds are of the shot and it's supposed to symbolize society crawling on a crucifix the artist david want to rover which was expressing anger and concern over society's apathy about aids he later died of aids related complications. michael blazon stein one of the organizers of the museum of censored art wanted to make sure the artist message was heard at first he tried to keep it inside the museum putting the video on an i pad i just stood there right at the entrance to

the exhibit so this is you that's me yeah. and i just stood there i didn't even talk to anybody i just stood there and anybody who wanted to come up and look at it could look at it within ten minutes he was escorted out and is now banned from the smithsonian for life but he says it's worth it these things are done in the name of the taxpayer but when people are coming in they you know they see the museum of censored art and they want to know what the government is trying to hide from them this is just the latest attempt by government officials to censor the expression of artists though sometimes they're more upfront about what they want to keep it in. washington d.c. as union station an artist back in one thousand nine hundred seventy contributed roman soldiers and was told they would need to cover up their quote personal items with shields and then there was the one nine hundred eighty nine robert

mapplethorpe exhibit shown at the washington project for the arts after being banned from the corcoran art gallery once again after government intervention senator jesse helms put a stop to it being shown there after threatening the national endowment for the arts he's conservative he wants to control people he wants to hold what people think he wants to. reality and i think that. idea is way off base fast forward twenty one years to a metal trailer with no heat and one work of art and display all because a few people consider it fact religious do you think that's what it is i mean religion is always the one thing that still drums up so much controversy especially in our. religion and sex religion and sex two subjects depicted in art for millennia and seemingly lost in the shadows of the free speech in the u.s. constitution. christine for south r.t.

washington. yesterday we saw a political career and then. just a matter of three to four hours representative christopher lee is a married republican congressman who was serving in the twenty sixth district of new york until website gawker obtained e-mail correspondence that he had had with a woman he met over a craigslist thirty four year old single female had put a post in the women seeking men form asking if anybody out there could prove that not all craigslist men looked like trolls inviting financially and emotionally secure men to reply and boy did she get an answer when christopher lee using a g. mail account with his own name on it described himself as a very fit fun classy guy then he sent her this shirt was photo to prove it meanwhile he's also lied about his marital status his age and his occupation so there you have it by the time we were wrapping up the alona show last night we had already resigned so when we say about this political sex scandal well joining me to
11:53 pm
discuss it from our studio in new york is wonkette blogger sarah but in casa sarah thanks so much for joining us tonight now i want to know your whole take on this sex scandal here personally i kind of i'm surprised at how how jaded we all are because the second a story like this comes out nobody really says oh oh he was cheating on his wife what a bad guy everyone just said oh he got caught what an idiot. i said oh my god a republican congress person and he's not banging an underage boy good for them this is a step up for them. ok ok i think you might have something better now can you believe how quickly it happened though i mean really the gawker story came out in three to four hours later he had already resigned does that tell you that he is a wimp or is there just like a whole treasure trove of other secrets that he has out on the internet that that we're hopefully going to see soon that might come out. i think this must be just
11:54 pm
the beginning i mean this is pretty piddly as far as secrets go right straight married guy looking for some love but you know i think it was the picture aspect if you sent out one picture to a lady there have to be more ladies he sent pictures out to and they just say that picture looked good i was like excuse me sir why don't you come on out in new york city and hang out with me did you see this. you know what he was he with kind of ripped like i wasn't expecting that forty six year old congressman he looks very fit fun and classy to me. one of the things that i found hilarious was that the woman who you know with who he was corresponding here she wants to stay anonymous but she did give an interview to two different websites and chile had two words of advice for christopher lee's wife here she just said get tested if you think she's right on that one. well i think she's right because i think that anyone who finds out that her man has been trolling for her. on craig's list probably that
11:55 pm
means the dude's not that discerning right so i think yes that's solid advice from from this anonymous woman well as by meeting her dude who was a congress member you don't need to troll around on craigslist you know just to find a girl to date that's what capitol hill is for that's why there are a million cute young staffers running around it anyway i decided i still think that he's absolutely stupid for the way but he did this and i don't appreciate the fact that he's cheating on his wife whom we have a child with but i also want to talk a little bit more about this woman with whom he was corresponding because like i said she is remaining anonymous and she didn't go your typical route where she sold the story where she wanted to become famous so i mean does that make her a good samaritan in this case i mean i kind of want to get a look at her. you know it might make her a good samaritan it might make her a realist i mean she's in upstate new york so i don't think there's a huge market like maybe she could sell some pictures to
11:56 pm
a paper in albany but i think she just sort of realized hey you know what i may as well just hit up one of nick denton sites. and cut my losses and just tell my story because i'm probably not going to make that much money off of this guy i thought she was here in d.c. ballot bowl paying is but yeah she's here in d.c. and she that's why she didn't want her name getting out there because she she really hits the bar circuit here in d.c. all the time didn't want people to know who she was but you know the other bit of information getting passed along here the rumor mills that john boehner had warned this guy about a year ago and said cut it out stop partying the female lobbyist and some people are asking of john boehner is really going to be tough and have as zero tolerance policy when it comes to sex scandals would not be something. i mean that would be delicious but that makes me wonder does that mean that john boehner is never going to answer to all the sexy sexy e-mails that i sent him from my personal r. and skin fetish website because if so i'm aren't broken. i really
