a big change after washington sponsoring hosni mubarak for thirty years and turning a blind eye to widespread human rights violations in the country what have they been doing for the previous thirty years while mubarak was actually torturing people. putting down opposition by force with barak was a bad guy but he was our bad guy and as long as we had some element of control and that was good for us america's close ally is out of power but some analysts say the u.s. is still pulling the strings. long term alliance with israel a deep partnership with egypt we as a country have provided more than one hundred billion dollars in aid to both of these countries there's a real investment here the force now in charge in egypt is the country's military largely financed by the united states the army will be in power until egyptians choose their next president it is the second largest recipient of american aid in

far will they share or what's going to happen the most likely course is going to be a prolonged period of very difficult talks between some emerging group coming out of the protest the united states was certainly involves behind the scenes in a very intensive way when it became clear that mubarak was was in trouble they wanted him out now do they want the military to stay in power do they want the protesters to take over i think is something in between you know and they're really confused obama has been a step or two behind throughout this entire process. british journalist and war correspondent vonn bradley says hosni mubarak delayed his departure to take care of his multibillion dollar fortune. the problem facing a dictator like mubarak is that when you have many billions stashed away. he obviously had to seek assurances that wouldn't be frozen as has happened in

were to decide to run for president who according to a recent rasmussen poll leads obama in a potential presidential race in two thousand and twelve and who just recently opposed the new start treaty which would limit the amount of nuclear weapons in both the united states and russia and which was supported by leadership of both parties neustar needs our national security. and potential candidate michele bachmann had quite a few eloquent things to say about u.s. foreign policy particularly china with all the money that we owe china i think we might rightly say who is your daddy but in this interview when discussing foreign policy bachmann it wasn't joking this is the time where we need to be on red hot alert five alert and instead of calling back and taking our weapons off the table we need to go and another presidential hopeful has been gearing up for years now especially when it comes to dealing with iran and i am edina john he gets to wipe out tel aviv maybe this really is use nuclear weapons and he would accept that in

a minute. because he believes everybody into iran goes to heaven and everybody in tel aviv does and now he's really angry at the u.s. president the obama administration is wrong on terrorism wrong on iran wrong on the muslim brotherhood wrong on hezbollah but hating obama is where the agreement seems to end because this year here's the compromise the conservatives also will have to make we will have to look long and hard at the military budget. i think is going to be i knew there had to be some dissension so. some fresh faces are willing to say in with the new out with the old the tea party is interested in selecting our tea party candidates not just all the not just all of the. establishment republicans but establishment republicans there may be the temptation

to x. everything including the defense but you still have something to say and the money to not only say it but also to believe that the united states is becoming the laughing stock of the world because delusion john boehner by the way is flying commercial these days. oh yes i do it's a new day no matter how obvious always has a place in society but when realistic ideas too often get drowned out you cannot say that the doubling of the military budget in the last ten years has all been spent wisely and that there's not any waste in the job. you just be on you. are t. washington d.c. . and whoever becomes the next part us president one of the main challenges they'll face is the growing budget deficit latest report shows in january it rose to almost

fair. it's. not saying that everything's all right rosy at this point we're certainly not at a critical point and i think what you're pointing out is the fact that we need increased global cooperation it's not just a problem that can be fixed unilaterally either within the within the euro or within the u.s. economy it's something that has to be fixed globally how do you stop spending when you've got. thirty three hundred million people to make sure that they're healthy and have enough food and all that kind of stuff. how do you. you. you have to. cut it other places maybe stop going to war with so many people. as a real. there's a lot of countries that are surviving off for the interest we're paying so it's good for us to be in doubt you think. not this much is it ok that our country is

built on a deficit system. if you look at a lot of companies now they are so no it's not but we should be built on a surplus either do you think the rest of the world needs us to be in that yes i do feel like questions like these are sort of useless to people like me pick. it feels like it has nothing to do with me whether or not you think america can ever go bankrupt the bottom line is with a deficit that continues to grow something's gotta get one way or another. still ahead for you this hour here on our t.v. family support knows no borders we reveal how despite several ties with moscow cash flow from russia georgia grows every year due to money transfers from those who left their country in search of a better life. and the first mars landing has happened today meet the crew of the

egyptian president hosni mubarak finally stepping down and of course what that holds and means for the future of the country to talk more about that we're joined live from london by robin simcox of the center for social cohesion a london based think tank thanks for being with us this saturday the u.s. has been backing mubarak during his entire thirty year rule but were quick to abandon him when the going got tough do you think other u.s. allies in the region could expect the same kind of treatment. when i think that the u.s. role in this is obviously they've had to back the democratic forces it's very clear that there is a real appetite for change in egypt and about hopefully in the middle east generally today is potentially a great day obviously for the egyptian people also for democratic democracy generally obviously we have to be careful that the army don't hold power they have
6:22 am
taken control of the moment and we hope they take it over and over see america has to play a role in encouraging that democratic transition now in egypt. egypt of course faces an uncertain future what do you think is likely to happen. i think the what will happen now is the army will maintain control hopefully temporarily we the west will encourage democratic parties all the opposition groups alternatives for example to the muslim brotherhood who are the most developed electoral force in egypt who will encourage those policies to come together to provide some sort of alternative and as soon as is humanly possible there should be elections what about the crucial role that egypt plays in settling the conflict between israel and palestinians what do you expect to happen in terms of that very important issue for the region. sure well this is this is the big question i think this is especially
6:23 am
where the role of the muslim brotherhood is going to be crucial because we need to keep this the peace treaty that exists between egypt and israel absolutely needs to stay now there is a concern if the muslim brotherhood appearing too much power again too much influence in egypt that they will seek to rescind this treaty which would obviously be a huge problem the reason why america has given so much aid to egypt which you alluded to in the first question a large part of it has been role in trying to broker some kind of lasting peace between israel and palestine so it's really important from the peace process his point of view the. government can continue to play that kind of role. now the face of the arab world seems to be changing with all of these protests looming in the region what kind of greater middle east do you think we're going to see in the near future. it's really impossible to tell obviously the fact the when people voted in iraq in two thousand and five i think it was such
6:24 am
a hugely symbolic moment and we hope that perhaps the democratic process would move along a bit quicker than it has obviously a lot of countries and some of the problems have been involved in iraq and afghanistan have seen a reluctance to change but what we have to hope for and what today i what i think egypt proves is that the democratic impulses that animated europe america the rest of the world are there in the middle east and muslim majority countries as well there's often a lot of cynicism around there so if there's if that part of the world is and isn't isn't keen on democracy is if they love a strongman in north or italian rule i think what this is proof that this isn't the case and hopefully this will have a domino effect of democratic reforms across the region why from london robin simcox from the think tank the center for social cohesion thanks for that. well argues military analyst getting himself explains how president karzai fearful of the events in egypt is safe guarding himself against a potential u.s.

backed coup when the whole international attention has been foreclosed on the unraveling situation in egypt suddenly got his life popped up on the headlines with his new and american resume this style to deprive the united states any opportunity to swap or to dismiss him with a more pliable pseudo democratic leader he decided to regain the initiative and momentum and to capitalize on and to american sentiments in afghanistan thanks to american occupation now he's in charge. clinton used to call narco state due to drug trafficking karzai has acquired total financial independence from the united states or international community it's to president obama whether he has the guts to learn the lesson from cairo to arrange the program
