for the. we've got. the biggest issues get invoice face to face with the news makers. well it's time for tonight's tool time award and it goes to a kansas or lawmaker state representative conny o'brien might just be the next miss cleo of the psychic world apparently represented o'brien can now determine if someone is in this country illegally just by looking at the color of their skin she was testifying in a hearing last week about in-state tuition being granted to children of undocumented immigrants and the reason that she was testifying is because she had recently gone with her son to college to sign up for classes so listen to her tell the story about a young lady who was in line with her son to pay for college and she just happened
11:31 pm
to overhear that this woman was getting financial aid i don't. know where she would have been. in. so because the woman had olive complection she could be an american wow so there are just no lads you know in this country that are actual americans legally born here who knew now since the comments were made public the media in kansas has broadcast the story across the state and the kansas democratic party has asked her to apologize but this is the best part o'brien says that she's been told that even she has all of complection and so she's not going to apologize until she's had time to think what do you need to think about lady you're a bigot you're an idiot just because somebody has all of skin doesn't mean that they're in the u.s. illegally so you have to wonder will the g.o.p. ever stop bashing latinos probably not but with each new ridiculous comment and
11:32 pm
lawyer death we giving latino population another reason to vote against you and your party so for her comments about all of complection people kansas state representative carney o'brien is tonight's tool time. now as president obama and congress keep telling us times are tough budget cuts must be made and on the state and city levels those budget cuts have been taking place for years because unlike the federal government most cities and states are required to balance their budgets by law now one of the major areas seeing deep cuts are police departments many governors many mayors have decided the police mounted patrols are no longer needed that's right police departments are downsizing from four legs to two with many police horses being put out to pasture literally now the new york times reports that in recent months the clip clop of police hooves have been silenced in newark and camden new jersey and san diego in california in tulsa home and in boston
11:33 pm
massachusetts as well many people many police departments say that the cuts by city hall have hurt their efforts to do their jobs so police department say the mounted patrols. our valuable tool especially when you're dealing with large crowds they claim that one mounted officer is effective than ten officers on foot because well from that high up they can see a large portion of a crowd pleaser bartman say that horse patrols are very popular with the public now critics say the keeping horses isn't a good use of taxpayer money when you might have to lay off officers to balance the budget so i guess that they have a point has a horse ever solve the murder case now in new york city the police commissioner says that there's a big he is a big defender of the mounted units he pointed out two mounted officers were in times square last may when vendors alerted police to a smoking s.u.v. that was ready to explode now the officers cleared the scene on their horses until the bomb squad right and new york has one of the largest units in the nation with
11:34 pm
a total of seventy nine officers and sixty forces but new york has seen budget cuts just a decade ago the mounted unit was made up of one hundred thirty officers and one hundred twenty five horses now asked for the animals that are part of the units being cut by the budget ax some are being sent to other police departments and some of the officers actually get to adopt their favorite horse so think about it police on horses i guess the saddest part is that this is happening not because we're investing in new technologies because we're moving on but just because we don't have enough money not even for a horse which. now it's no secret that with budget cuts with the recession come many sacrifices for americans but what if one of those sacrifices was food one of the basic staples you can think of. ford has more on how rising food and commodity prices are hitting people's wallets hard. in egypt the revolution took to the streets. but it may have
11:35 pm
started at the table when food prices begin skyrocketing for the more than forty percent of egyptians living on less than two dollars per day. as well as the country's young educated and unemployed middle class. and it isn't just egypt around the world where there are billion people who are already hungry they spend more than half of their money on food so these these kinds of huge world crop price increases can translate into twenty or thirty percent or more increases in their costs are going. to continue to haiti inflationary food prices are leading to protests and contributing to revolutions young people who no longer can afford protein for themselves they can't afford for fresh vegetables for themselves middle class parents can't afford to feed their children milk this is when people get very angry this is when people take to the streets clearly this is
11:36 pm
a part of the a part of the whole there's no question food prices are rapidly rising beyond the levels of the two thousand and eight food prices are forcing americans to make tough decisions at the cash register to vote the price keep going up then we have to really have to learn how to improvise and do things like us because they don't know we don't get a raise to go into everything and everything means basic staples like milk tea coffee and syria which rose five percent in the last few months alone research. is going to get some are going to fifty dollars and i'll get a lot of i mean if i want to. but decisions about who pays and how much aren't made at the register says journalist frederick kaufman imaginary wheat being bought and sold by financial giants is controlling the price of real wheat they're made on. wall street by big investment firms who destroys dollars and euros and instead
11:37 pm
hedge their bets on commodities who's winning you've got it goldman sachs j.p. morgan chase the largest holders a lot of largest financial dealers in this they're doing very well as the u.s. pushes producers to convert corn crops to ethanol the crisis deepens around the world demand for biofuels has tripled over the past six years and will triple again by two thousand and twenty growing demand for biofuels almost doubled my challenge of increasing the amount of food we have to produce for people and. farmers are having a tough time keeping up but americans aren't as eager to push frustrations from the grocery store to the street from earth to take. you know we have got sick and tired of being sick and tell you we get do we do with thirteen point nine billion dollars in cuts to food stamp programs over the next three years means that the average american family will receive fifty nine dollars less per month bringing less food to their tables but it's unclear whether it will also bring them out in the streets
11:38 pm
here in florida are washington d.c. . now while soaring food and commodity prices of lead to unless protests even helped fuel the revolutions in other parts of the world it's unclear how american consumers are going to react to the latest warnings coming from our retailers food companies and manufacturers the news is that this year they expect prices to rise the prices of everything from cotton to copper to corn sugar we before and coffee edge up companies are seeing their profits take a dive when comparing the third and fourth quarters of last year so many companies are now saying that their only option is going to be to stop absorbing those costs and push them on to the consumer that includes procter and gamble kraft foods polo ralph lauren and haynes just to name a few but with unemployment still high how are the people going to react and how much of the rising costs can we blame on. three wall street speculation here to discuss it with me is anthony rand as
11:39 pm
a director of economic research for the reason foundation anthony thanks for coming on a suit and i will wait here that prices are going to start rising this year which means they're going to be higher than they already are how much of a rise can we really expect what are people predicting obviously depends on exactly what the products are talking about the last time we saw a price rise like this two thousand and going two thousand seventy two thousand and eight the price of my pizza went from five dollars for two slices in new york to you know five fifty for two slices so it's going to be incremental you're not going to see prices double by any means but it's going to be noticeable particularly on food since food stuffs typically are the leading indicator that's for when commodity prices start to go up that's where the prices first start to get hit and if you are a low income individual america already struggling in the midst of this recession you're probably going to notice your food bill going up more this year in if you or a more affluent american you may not really notice it at all well for those that are struggling right now that's definitely knowledge they want to hear but should
11:40 pm
we have seen this coming right i mean you could say that for the food prices have been on the rise gradually in the way that these companies are painting right now is that last year they absorbed all the costs because they were too scared the consumers weren't going to buy anything especially during the depths of the recession and now they're feeling i guess a little more confident to give all of it so mark i mean market analysts have seen this coming if you think about this with the amount of liquidity that the fed is trying to push into the economy over the last several years has got to be spent on something and the the amount of debt that the fed has bought from headphones from banks investment groups the toxic debt that they tried to get out there that gives those organizations cash that they need to then spent so you know that doesn't necessarily mean that every toxic mortgage that's bought by is commodities but some of that's going there are so smart commodities investors smart investors it's looked at all this money coming in. some of it's going to wind up getting pushed towards investments and commodities and that's going to push up prices i mean so
11:41 pm
ironically what the government's trying to do to stimulate the economy has in fact help to stimulate commodities prices and so if you are a good market analyst you would have seen this coming for the regular everyday consumer you know you're not following wall street obviously it's going to be a little bit of a blindside but how do you mental is that the fact that investors are now looking at commodities perhaps even looking for that a lot of people are you know pointing at firms like j.p. morgan or goldman sachs for you know speculation when it comes to the prices or the prices of we are korea i mean how much money that has just so you can't blame it all on wall street obviously i mean it's i know it's much fun but you know you know you've got to blame some of it on god to the weather it's the droughts and fires in russia impacted wheat prices the flood in australia an incredible impact on foodstuffs prices around the world and we don't like to pay attention to that other than to just show pictures but that actually does impact the bottom line at the grocery store when it's something like
11:42 pm
a fifth of the continent underwater when you have events like that that are unpredictable it is difficult necessarily to see how far the stuff's going to go you can't blame it all on wall street and it's not necessarily detrimental that that's where money is going either right now we're it's not like prices are at astronomical unheard of prices were just back in two thousand and seven levels actually if you look at exactly where the price index are and it spiked in two thousand and eight we've we've seen a drop so it's not that prices are at an unheard of levels that we're not going to be able to handle that we should be incredibly worried but we should know that even in a deflationary economy that there are concerns about the future it will inflation kick in some of these price some of this could be on fears that inflation is going to drive at these prices and socialist anticipating that there's a lot of factors that are coming here so i don't think we can be so worried about wall street just sorta. gaming the system but do you think that it's fair that people are worried right now considering what we've seen go on in the rest of the
11:43 pm
world you know what we've seen go on in tunisia and egypt now granted americas is a bit of a different situation but still you see a lot of people that are educated. are worried right now because their food prices are soaring because they can't afford the basic necessities and so it's hard to look at what's going around in the rest of the world and not a good scare the what if the same thing happens here yeah i mean i doubt we're going to see tunisia egypt iranian style protests here over food but i would hope that the american people smart people start paying attention to stimulus activities by the government as more than just trying to help them is potentially hurting them and to actually pay attention to when the federal reserve releases their statements every month or two months depending on what their readings of what they're going to do about inflation whether or not they are going to pull back the quantitative easing program because what they do there is going to impact the bottom line of how much you spend at the grocery store. paying attention that's probably the most that any american citizen can do other than you know ask ron paul that you know to
11:44 pm
question the fed more but. i'll do we're going to get crazier it's all right you know i'm all for paying attention absolutely so paying really close attention to what you're telling. our anthony thank you so much for joining us yeah hopefully you know it'll just be a couple sense that things go up in. your food budgets thanks god tonight's show the new cover girl for this week's edition of sports illustrated the russian model week and that congressman ron paul speaking of balance on the board of the young americans for freedom group because he's looking like pretty much i think in turn from that group has decided that he can no longer be a part of that work in this age.

dot com. every year the world holds its breath for the end veiling of the hottest magazine in the u.s. the sports illustrated swimsuit edition it's a favorite for guys everywhere and it's considered a pass into the world of fame and fortune for whichever model appears on the cover now this year russian model irina shayk went out earning her the unofficial taught us woman in a bathing suit contest on a twenty five year old says she feels honored to be on the cover and she admits that she's still in shock over the whole thing but we have got to hand it to her from the looks of these pictures that this woman has no problem handling the title of sports illustrated center ball and she was interviewed on the today show about her russian roots and her love life and clearly she's taken

a cue from red headed bombshell anna chapman. when you are dating christiane the ronaldo will correct you can but i wouldn't respond. because there's a picture of a situation where you know we're russian you know you keep secret you know i would . be a russian you know. you know over being humber girl from a small town in russia she sure knows how to charm the guys won't give the details on her relationship with soccer hottie cristiana rinaldo and she's already spouting off lines about being a sexy russians by frankly any guys who are out there watching this segment probably start paying attention once we start flipping through a few pics from a photo shoot and i do not blame you russian women after all are known for being some of the hottest in the world but i think we all know what's next first the sexy photos next to a line of vodka illicit if the guys get to have the arena to daydream about how about passing off cristiana rinaldo for me. now last saturday the conservative

group young americans for freedom said that representative ron paul would be expelled from the group's national advisory board because of his quote delusional and disturbing alliance with the fringe anti-war movement they went on in their statement saying that it's sad day in american history when a one time conservative libertarian stalwart has fallen more out of touch with america's needs for national security than the current feeble and appeasing administration and representative paul's refusal they also said this to support our nation's military and national security interests border on trees and they even posted videos online attacking the congress. the juice so that it would hate us and want to kill simply because of our culture and i don't think that that's true.
11:49 pm
but who's really the ones that are out of touch public support for america's wars has dwindled the latest gallup poll shows that sixty one percent of republicans want to speedier withdraw from afghanistan and now some members of young americans for freedom are even parting ways with this group so here to discuss it with me is adam wood former coronation in turn at young americans for freedom thanks so much for being here and now you decided to leave young americans for freedom after they made this announcement after the straw poll to see packed why i will for a number of reasons the first reason i said is i think libertarians and conservatives alike should have a sense of prioritization i think right now it's the one thing that we agree on is that we need to get the economy under control we need to repeal obama care we need to deny obama another four years he's been a disaster in this country and i think that the division that young americans for freedom is trying to cause is counterproductive and the other reason is the
11:50 pm
demeanor in which they did it to call him to call his foreign policy that hasn't changed in thirty years treasonous and to insinuate that they've changed in any way or form i believe is out of touch with the reality well you know they may call his foreign policy treasonous like you said he's been subscribing to the same foreign policy ideas for decades now but do you see this growing anti-war sentiment within the republican party within the libertarian movement as well as i mentioned the latest gallup poll that sixty one percent of republicans said that they'd like to see us get out of afghanistan sooner well i mean we've clearly been there for quite a while and i mean that. not unexpected. and there's clearly a disagreement on foreign policy within the republican party and i think that we're going to have that discussion during the primaries for the two thousand two thousand and twelve presidential election and i think that's a healthy debate to have i think it is something that should be brought up but it should be brought up in a respectful manner on both sides and i think that that's what this organization
11:51 pm
failed to do but so you aren't necessarily leaving because you personally just adore ron paul and cow believe that they would go after him like this it's just because they're perhaps using that as a distraction like you said from the real issues at hand or do you really adore ron paul well i mean full disclosure i did work on his campaign in two thousand and eight and but like you said i think that is as a republican my goal is to prioritize and to consensus bill we need to whoever the nominee is in two thousand and twelve we need to get a candidate that all of us are going to agree on and libertarians are is significant part of the electorate and i think that we're going to need them to win what do you think there's a little bit of competition involved here because you have young americans for freedom and then you have young americans for liberty who are supporters of ron paul are they really trying to get the young people here we actually have a recruitment video from young americans for freedom where it's very obvious that they're trying to go after the let's just show that really quick.
11:52 pm
the rock music party instead it's very you know it's clear they're trying to get people have to do you think if there is that type of competition when you go work for young americans for liberty now instead well i'm not sure who i work for but i mean clearly there is some kind of competition and i think that's unfortunate because they're both conservative libertarian or youth organizations. and i think that's probably why this is going to be detrimental to young americans for freedom because. the. conservative movement in within the college environment is turning more libertarian and i think that this will hinder their recruiting efforts and their activism efforts i do think about was really

apparent c. pac i mean ron paul won the straw poll last year too and you can say that's not necessarily a perfect reflection of how pinions are within the g.o.p. but that's because of the people that actually come to the conference and. see pac but you know how how much is the libertarian movement growing within the conservative movement itself has it been a look at twenty twelve oh well i mean it would be speculation to say how it's going to look in a year from now. i mean it's clearly got a big presence and i don't think anybody claims that c. pac is representative of the entire g.o.p. however it is representative of which groups in which ideologies can mobilize people better. and i want to thank you very much for joining us and ron paul so far hasn't seemed too upset about this entire thing his press person was like young americans for freedom that group still exists and still does things i will say i don't really think it will hurt the support that he has from the ron paul life that

are diehards but we'll see how this keeps on going thank you very much for joining us. now before we go tonight we have our tweet of the day one that michele bachmann is a little upset that the first lady suggested that all new moms should breastfeed because those kids have a lower tendency to be obese later on in life and bachmann called that comment a move to a total nanny state so tonight we think that maybe the first lady should tweet back to maybe she should say no you see a nanny state is not letting a woman have the right to choose or a gay couple get married because you don't approve. of me so full of inconsistency and that's it for tonight's show thanks for tuning in. don't make him come back tomorrow nathan hodge from the wall street journal of be on the program to discuss his new book armed humanitarians now in the meantime don't forget become a fan of a lot of show on facebook kind of follow us on twitter and if you missed any of the night's program or any other night you can always catch dolly you tube dot com slash the on the show where we post the interviews as well as the show in its
