with protesters safe all islam gadhafi also confirmed rioters have seized military bases tanks and other equipment and warned of a looming civil war that could wipe out the nation's oil well meanwhile in other developments across the region rioters continued to clash with government supporters in the yemeni capital side not with gunfire heard in the streets while in bahrain the opposition is preparing for talks with authorities after deadly clashes with government forces saw six people killed and dozens wounded plus morocco we're seeing on a raft with at least five thousand people taking to the streets of the capital rabat demanding king mohammed give up some of his powers. for more on this now i'm joined live from argentina by middle east expert adrian sal bucci thank you for joining us so we've as we've heard this situation in libya has taken a new turn with while it riots for the first time in tripoli is this the beginning of the end for colonel gadhafi. well good at good morning first of all yes these
10:01 pm
are the there is a certain pattern that we are seeing seeing in the middle east in egypt first against mubarak naturally in tunisia now in libya and i'm back arrangement where it seems that the major so sector of public opinion is a bit tired of these regimes that have lasted twenty thirty even forty two years however i think that we have to be avoid the rather simplistic binary for a point of view of thinking you know good and bad black and white i think that we need to make several readings about this there is probably a legitimate desire on the part of many people to have some sort of change or liberalization in these routines however it often occurs that the alternative which is western style democracy as they have been pleading for it in egypt and they're also asking for another part of the middle east might also be a dead end street because western style democracy is probably not the answer for them so they might be getting rid of of thirty forty or fifty year old regina but
10:02 pm
many of these countries certainly in egypt certainly libya are certainly in tunisia and battering that might be getting themselves into just as bad or even worse trouble if they don't really understand the social proof that this is going on and be powerful interests that may be driving them from outside of the middle east that colonel gadhafi side has appeared on state television warning of civil war he says protesters have ceased garrisons he believes foreigners an islamist are behind the uprising do you agree with that or do you think this is something organic coming from the people. it's probably something organic to a great extent but there are also a lurking interest very powerful ones which may be islamic in certain cases but they are also probably western orientated and western fuels you know another sense because from the point of view of the western powers these increasing turn boils as we are seeing in these various countries they know that they have a tendency to weaken the nation state certainly in egypt certainly in libya
10:03 pm
certainly in tunisia and elsewhere and in a way the global power elites the global power structure are have been looking at have been seeking and promoting the weakening of nation states for decades now so in a way if they can get rid of these strong mad men whether it be hosni mubarak in egypt or colonel gadhafi in libya and try to transition has i was saying before to a more liberal chaotic and more controllable western style democracy that didn't serve in a privilege to serve what we have to be very careful about the various readings that we make of this and also we should not avoid a key issue which is state of israel which in a way is at the center although not in the news is generally in the center of all the problems of all of turmoil in the middle east and this might be preparing the speech for other actions other initiatives that the solution might take in the future which might tie in with their own geopolitical interests objectives as well
10:04 pm
as those of the united states and the united kingdom in the region if i can bring you back to libya here though this unrest started in libya's second city and second largest city benghazi and breaks the pattern of protest in the region those were all sparked in the capital's cairo for example why do you think this one is coming from the second largest city and not starting in tripoli. well no doubt libya has a political a social and even legal structure which is different from other countries in the region it is a more so we said well i don't like to use the word primitive but it is a more primary society and perhaps also colonel gadhafi has a very strong hold and triple we as he does have a major following let's not of void that issue he still has a major part of the population following him which is very much centered on tripoli and so strategically who whichever interests are promoting this it would not come as a surprise that they should try to do so from the periphery of libya enough from the very center in tripoli which is definitely gadhafi is major stronghold and this is
10:05 pm
the last is this the last country where the population will take to the streets or do you think there's other a volatile nations in waiting that could rise up next. i think that we will be seeing more nations not only in the middle east but elsewhere throughout other parts of the world even perhaps in my region in latin america because with today's media there is a contagion that takes place as people see how certain people can rise up and be successful as they were in egypt and they can be maybe they will be successful in other them just or as they were in tunisia i would say that the main thing that irrespective of each country's reasons and each country's kind of touristic so we have to be very careful that these good probably good revolutions are not hijacked by other interests that have other objectives which definitely will go against the natural interests of the egyptians or the libyans or the tunisians or other peoples in vet region and elsewhere because i think this ties into a more global pattern where we have to understand the major geo political long term
10:06 pm
planning emanating from such organizations as the council on foreign relations the trilateral commission and the group who as i say have for decades been fighting the arab world in general are but secular i should say and have been fighting the sovereign nation state as an institution on a global basis. and now say follow islam also said that the government would quote fight to the last bullet to stay in power is there any other way to read this or are the authorities willing to go to war with the people. well i think that we've seen some very bad examples of this already in egypt and we're definitely seeing some in libya where there are hundreds of but people are really dead but as i say you cannot fight the people with bullets so ok it might take one hundred it might take two hundred in egypt it took quite a number of people who are victims of this violence but when the people rise there is probably no limit and in the long run any rigi trying to put down such protests
10:07 pm
with violence is probably condemned to failure so the important thing i would say from home from the point of view of the americans was we have been through such turmoil in the past decades is to understand the social processes understand all the good vantage that people power who from other areas may take from all this and not give it give it to them served in a silver platter is very important that both the pro protesters on one side and the government do you know and one egypt whether it be in libya whether it be in a back rain or in tunisia should understand how powerful social forces they are up against the psychological warfare tactics that are being used and they should not allow themselves either side to be used by interested objectives which are completely outside the the interest of libyans or the egyptians or the tunisians or to be iraqis or just about any country that is having such turmoil in the middle

east the president all right middle east expert adrian sal buscema speaking from white house aires thank you. israel has expressed strong concern over iran the dispatch of two warships to cross egypt suez canal prime minister netanyahu says the move will bring even more attention to what already unstable region the two ships are said to sail through the canal monday on route to the mediterranean will be the first iranian warships to navigate those waters since the country's islamic revolution of one thousand seven or. more from tel aviv. this many prime minister benjamin netanyahu says that he views with at most gravity the posturing of these two iranian warships through the suez canal to the mediterranean sea he says that it's really an attempt to take advantage of the current situation to exploited and to extend its regional influence we also heard today from the israeli foreign minister avigdor lieberman he says that this is nothing short of publication israel and iran have not had diplomatic relations for the past thirty years and israel is

concerned that iran is sending weapons to its neighbors that will ultimately be used against the jewish state is really soon relations are strained israel convinced an israeli official saying as much over the past few years that iran is supplying weapons to syria that ultimately landed in the hands of his in lebanon now the united states is adding fuel to the whole situation the u.s. state department recently set up a twitter account and it is using their twitter account to post tweets in farsi that supports anti iranian government demonstrators out on the streets of tehran we haven't seen the u.s. state department do anything like that supporting or even expressing any kind of opinion on the same kind of demonstrations that are happening in yemen since one thousand nine hundred seventy nine since the rain revolution they have been no iranian warships that have actually passed through the suez canal this is the first major diplomatic headache for the egyptian interim government for the ruling

military council as you well know president mubarak had a close. nation ship with the united states he was an ally of the u.s. and at the same time relations between him and the rand were strained for the past thirty years it is not clear exactly why they gave permission we haven't had any insight on that but what we have been told reported is that it has checked the cargo they are confident that there is nothing suspicious on board and as a result they have allowed their free gate on the supply ship to go through. european union is launching a mission to help italy deal with a wave of immigrants from north africa what than five thousand people poured in from tunisia alone during the last week in officials agree the situation is out of control wave of migrants coming just as europe is seeing a vicious debate over multiculturalism as leaders of major nations admit it's not working despite the current mood however one outspoken critic from austria has gone on trial for speaking out against the rights of religious groups or he is a kind of retro but met up with the one. night vision of

a european citizen peacefully debating islam with a muslim is nothing unusual in a multicultural country like a stream but it's a topic not always discussed in such gentle fashion i advise you not to burn the koran about your reading. only months studying what islam so far will be learning how to play to know your enemy elizabeth supper to change all that has been on trial and a vienna court on charges of making what is described as a hate speech against islam a left wing all strand magazine recorded and published a speech at one of his seminars lending who are in court i have nothing against people who want to practice their faith. but i would like them to do this in the privacy of their own homes your ideas she says are nothing new and when europe's political elites express them they are not prosecuted for the same views
10:12 pm
multiculturalism has failed this is nothing new and my group and i have been saying this for years now all of a sudden. and others come out of hiding and agree with us i don't know why but elizabeth wolf opponents say she crossed the line here a speech is a great not only the muslim community but also made. it's not a matter of free speech that i can spread hatred about. what large groups of society you know we have to respect individuals in our society and we have to ask them to integrate and we have to help them to integrate yet european leaders such as german chancellor angela merkel french president nicolas sarkozy and british prime minister david cameron say mostly culturalism in europe isn't working there are huge muslim communities but frequently such as in all strata they leave in

their own areas a physical sign of non integration based districts in vienna is known as the little people here speak their native language they prepare their national dishes and wear the clothes which they are used to and this is exactly what hell is about subaverage wall found here a fellow like south taking a stance against self segregation a top pick which was once taboo is now at the top of the european political agenda with multiculturalism now open to multi criticism from some of the continent's most influential political leaders we've yet to see how their views might fully influence debate on the ground and the future shape. exceeding of their children our team from vienna. coming up a strange anniversary kosovo marks three years since of her claim to get in from serbia unfazed by recent reports of grave crimes allegedly committed by its leader . first though

a new wiki leaks revelations appear to show washington attempting to pressure nato diplomatic cables released by the online whistleblower says the u.s. went as far as snooping on your life as a top official catarina as our reports on the allegations. cat among the pigeons whistle blower strikes again this time at the very heart of nato according to documents published by two european newspapers a u.s. mole was planted right in the office of the alliance's secretary-general several of the cables revealed by wiki leaks indicate america is trying to control nato from within reporting confidential information back to washington this point of view is supported by some of the documents allegedly sent by u.s. diplomat jeff rafting. when under spog rasmussen was looking for closer ties with the collective security treaty organization made up of former soviet states the us was quick to veto the idea after a private dialogue with the u.s.
10:15 pm
representative to nato rasmussen took all mention of the two organizations growing closer out of his address to the alliance in two thousand and nine but why would the u.s. try to pressure its allies. i mean as one of nato is key players the u.s. tries to prevent the alliance from growing too close to the russia in the former soviet bloc because the region is of strategic interest to america they of course would prefer to build exclusive bilateral relationships with the go strong ties between two military organizations such as nato and the c.s.c. is not in u.s. interests. this isn't odds with the image of the alliance tries to project a strong union every. night how is that a group dominated by the united states of america that in fact it's not an alliance of tool in the sense of being sovereign states. it's a bogus alliance people in the street understand that washington is calling the

insurgency thrives on them on mistakes on the government out of the international community and in civilian casualties are the perfect mistakes for them to thrive on and to to seize up on in a news public opinion and they're all in favor and also a government that inefficiency and government problems add to that so this is something that the international community and afghan government has to cope up but then learn and also try to isolate the population from insurgency. stay with us here on r t coming up in the program a virtual trip to outer space a look at a unique simulated journey to the red planet by a multinational crew and what it could mean a real space problem. was bashing opposition on the head it's a recipe for a stable country according to the president in belize stay with us for explanation . first though kosovo has marked three years of soft reclaimed independence

from serbia as the region's unilateral move was backed by the u.s. and seventy five other countries most un member states including russia have not recognized it as a separate nation the anniversary was marred by a recent council of europe report the document claims kosovo's leaders including the current prime minister worst possible for serious crimes during the war in the late ninety's including executions abductions and organ trafficking claims serbia wants the u.n. to investigate peace campaigner marco gas it says the u.s. and e.u. don't want their roles in the balkans conflict to emerge. the key thing is we go back to those eleven years to when serbia was being bombed when people were being butchered on bridges in schools and hospitals and roa stations where people were being killed in the name of our supposedly good albanian leadership that needed protecting with its population those crimes that were committed a great service at that time were so huge that to admit that in fact the reality
10:19 pm
was that the albanians that the us was sponsoring at the time were indeed all steelers and slavers and villains in a variety of different kinds would be to the legitimize one's own propaganda operation so they couldn't go back from their original claims without admitting that i'd be lying all along particularly in one thousand nine hundred nine and that would have meant those who bombed serbia were culpable in criminal terms for that bombing and should answer before an international courts so of course it would be very difficult for them to say actually yes we are indeed wrong we were wrong we supported the wrong side and that and that was one step too far for them there seems to be nobody charged with the task of actually investigating these findings so it will require a brave brave security council and a committee a security council one that wants the truth to actually appear and i have my doubts whether that will appear out of the security council. the president to bellary says opposition will be quote bashed on the head unless it stops the stabilizing the

midpoint of the eighteen month a virtual journey to crewmembers carried out a second walk on a mock martian surface three russians two europeans and one chinese volunteer are taking part in the mars five hundred project they've already spent eight months in a set of windowless tubes with time like conversations with mission control and e-mails to their families as their only outside contact scientists are studying the psychological effects of such a long journey the third a virtual walk should happen on tuesday and it'll be followed by a nine month journey home when a shell from the european space agency explains what the team hopes to learn. we have to assume what's this is xander from russia and long way from china doing their second mass work and you see a simulated martian surface which is no more than forty square meters and what we see other too when the in their space suits which are pretty so close to what we would expect for real martian martian mission and what the two were doing is
10:23 pm
collecting soil samples and preparing them to bring the symbols back home if the cord which of course would not be there or on the real mars and that corridor supplies to the two astronauts. with electricity and also with air and of course in the real martian mars mission that all would be in the backpack the two astronauts carry on there on the back they are doing very well so that. everybody was really surprised that everything is going so bell everything one of the reasons for that is that they have this really very interesting goal of simulating the first walk on the mars and what we can see now is that the two are going to take a break at least special chairs because each of the space the woods is about thirty five kilogram and also if you would expect
10:24 pm
a real mission on mars we could expect that after ten or fifteen minutes astronauts would would have to take a small break the major point here is that they are really of everybody of them is really focused on their task and that's that's the main reason why this is so so real and so close to reality. turning now to some other stories making headlines across the globe ten children died in an orphanage fire in the coastal town of hop salu in western a stony the majority of them were disabled thirty seven children nine adults were in the building when it caught fire the cause of the blaze still unknown stoniest president has declared monday a day of mourning throughout the country. seventeen people wounded in two successive attacks by suspected muslim insurgents in the south of thailand the first happened at a karaoke restaurant that came under heavy gunfire half an hour later a car bomb detonated nearby last week another eighteen people wounded eighteen people and set buildings on fire in the neighboring province more than four
