really you believe just science and technology from. the future cover. stories on r.t. european powers turned their back on obama and his supporters after the us president refuses to rule out intervention in libya. and that he couldn't british military up points to strike as kind of the japanese forces can of opposition held cities on the sixty eighth insurrection join the police here in a few moments for an update. british p.r. firm has come under fire for devising some of the world's most controversial regimes and taking advantage of a vulnerable climate in the arab world right now as we report plus it's not easy being a space when a crew of six sit down for a stellar exam in

a moscow region the crew they've got the right stuff to meet the next mission to the i s s. i know you're watching the r.t. news channel at eleven pm moscow time this friday night my name is kevin now in our top story fierce battles have broken out across libya today between opposition and gadhafi forces on the so-called day of rage dozens are said to have been killed in the fighting meanwhile the u.s. and u.k. are becoming more isolated as they refused to rule out intervention in libya artie's paula slayer is on the choosing libyan border with more. i am on the libyan she has the on board of ems throughout the course of the day around two thousand refugees made their way through here they come in with stories of intimidation on the other side of the border they've been telling us that gadhafi forces an opposition they're preventing people from traveling through the articles of the day
3:02 pm
in libya a lot of violence some violent clashes between gadhafi supporters and anti-government rebel groups and also that fighting happening in the oil rich portion of rust not roofs we've been told that rebels have taken over this town they're in control of the airport and they now say that they making the way to the capital city tripoli in tripoli itself after midday prayers today friday there were demonstrations there was a live ammunition fired and there was also a lot of tear gas dozens of people injured dozens of people killed in these latest rounds of violence the mood certainly is being stated for some kind of possible foreign intervention to american warships had now landed increased there the british and american forces have been messin for days just yesterday four hundred american marines arrived there were also hearing from the local greek media that a torpedo and an american a submarine have also been dispatched to the area now the debate that's happening
3:03 pm
in the obama administration is a public debate is over the merits of launching some kind of military intervention here the same kind of debate is happening in european circles the debate has largely justified at least it justifies itself by saying that the reason for some kind of military intervention would be humanitarian reasons but when you ask libyans you know they say that this is simply nonsense and they are very fearful that the term humanitarian assistance is nearly a cover for what really is an attempt by those in the international community to safeguard their interests in libya if you look for example at iraq where a week ago some twenty nine she's full demonstrators were killed the international community particularly washington kept quiet about it and this is because they were killed by government. troops who are backed up by thousands of american soldiers the same is true for brain the brit for weeks now there have been violent demonstrations and nothing is coming out of washington for it and this is largely a game because it houses there the hip forces of its feet there's also debate the

whole question of a no fly zone and here we hearing from the kid of nato that all considerations are on the table but there any kind of decision on this would need to be agreed to by the u.n. security council question we hearing is also considering sending typhoon fighters to cyprus if there's no fly zone is given the green light lastly the u.s. officials say by sending all american equal meant to this region aparna really is putting into place the flexibility to act in any way he determines fit for the future of libya. correspondent there with the latest and other news angle is come out the director of a top u.k. university's quit over the institution's links to the regime it comes after revelations of the london school of economics accepted libyan donations worth millions of dollars it's the latest scandal in a string of reports of dirty money infiltrating the u.k. from dictatorships in the arab world but as i reports noticed london p.r.

firms are cashing in on the rest. the influence of p.r. companies in distorting the truth is well known in hollywood movie wag the dog a p.r. agent engineers a war to distract from the president's plan during. to shoot the it's a pageant. and sometimes truth is stranger and much more damaging than fiction spain has been crucial in middle eastern politics for many many years i mean spin is what took britain into the iraq war for example these crass headlines about weapons of mass destruction and within forty five minutes p.r. industry experts reckon the majority of the arab states in turmoil bahrain egypt have some kind of representation in a london p.r. and the reason they come here and lack of regulation while in the us if a p.r. company takes on a foreign government it has to register the fact with the department of justice in
3:06 pm
the u.k. there's no such rule but if you're a foreign government looking for representation in london you get no further than paul to get based in the building behind me although very cagey about who its clients are is believed to represent the bahrain bellary and exiled russian tycoon bodies that is not ski defense also been writing to journalists in recent days on behalf of a member of the libyan royal family and it's all based certainly representing governments elsewhere in the region bellport and declined to give us an interview for this story but they've assured r.t. in the past that p.r. can influence questionable regimes for the better a country frequently will modify. its policies in order to free. but that doesn't always happen libya for one has used p.r. machine before with misleading results in one thousand nine hundred five u.k.
3:07 pm
based p.r. agency was pay four million pounds. to try and subvert the evidence that pointed towards libyan involvement in the case and this is what has led to all sorts of alternative theories about lockerbie although of course all the evidence to point to the fact that al mcgrath lamb and female were actually responsible so you know how to play these rules they know how to play the game and it's transparency that's lacking in u.k. p.r. information appears in the media but people have no idea who put it there and the only way one can be really sure about all the information that will be on a daily basis is where does it come from is that person partial or impartial and in that way we get a much clearer idea of what it is that we're being told although there is a new body in the u.k. designed to regulate the p.r. industry declaring clients is still voluntary london's soho is the heart of the p.r. industry in the capital where images of burnished and the palatable becomes political
3:08 pm
london's top p.r. firms are known to be working under clerics for some of the world's most unpopular regimes but their expertise could be being used to shape the future political landscape of the region nor emmett's r.t. london are all parts of the main thrust of the story as the us nuclear refuses to rule intervention in libya let's bring some of the conversation now dr alexander close amir's sees in the u.k. he's a senior lecturer in politics at coventry university joins me now to talk more about the foreign forces building near libya even to thank for being on r.t. we've witnessed more than two weeks of fighting and bloodshed stories coming out of the situation doesn't seem to be improving falling appears to be getting worse but there is an argument i guess isn't there but maybe the intervention of foreign forces is a good thing it could help stabilize the situation your thoughts about the place. yes i think there's a strong case for military intervention in libya but the issue is not whether one
3:09 pm
is in favor of that form of action or against i think the main issue is how military intervention will be organized who will take part in it in what the specific remit or of action will be for example i think it would be important in any form of military intervention to try and involve other factors besides nato or the united states and its western allies such as for example russia or even the arab league in order to give you the necessary legitimacy. do you think we're going to see if there is an invasion if it does happen do you think we're going to see a repeat of what we saw in iraq and afghanistan. well there are fundamental differences between what is happening now in libya and what we saw in iraq and afghanistan i think the first major difference is that the opposition forces in
3:10 pm
libya already control an important part of the country and in the case of intervention to support them they would spare the. action in order to enter tripoli and take over how this was not the case of course as we know in iraq the second issue is their intervention or the sort we've seen in iraq and afghanistan with weeks of boarding from will not be necessary in the case of libya the first. the first form of action that is being discussed and this is the what the. libyan opposition forces are calling for is to create a no fly zone in order to protect them from attacks from the air now i think that this is a form of military intervention that will have very. few adverse effects of the kind we saw in afghanistan which you mentioned assuming there is no intervention assuming this buildup is just
3:11 pm
a show of bravado maybe just something to tell the gadhafi to cool his boots we don't know if you listen to it or not for the countries who do oppose the foreign intervention like france like germany what alternatives are there on the table to try and end this bloodshed in libya. well precisely i think the countries which oppose military intervention in libya do not come up with credible alternatives and that is what strengthens the case in favor of some form of action the alternative would be presumably to arm the opposition forces in the hope that we will be able to drive back could at least army and eventually enter tripoli but this is quite difficult considering that. the official army is still in control of the air force which gives it significant superiority over the opposition forces in the second major issue is the chemical and biological weapons which might be used and i think
3:12 pm
some protection is needed. for the first question those kind of trying to be devil's advocate a bit there are a lot of people as well saying that if there is some sort of intervention here the whole thing could really explode could really get out of hand and yet you are saying it's probably a good move if there is some intervention how you balancing those two things. well i think that intervention should first of all be. discussed with the parties concerned i don't think it should take place without the consent is. going to actual council but judging by what we see the military buildup at the moment you really think there will be that sort of discussion at the end of the day. yes i believe so and i understanding is that the western governments and the u.s. administration has stated that publicly they are in constant contact with the libyan opposition forces and i believe that other european and russian government in the arab league would be so i think that it is important to agree with them
3:13 pm
particular plans of action that would serve but they feel they need on the ground rather than in calls on the form of intervention that is planned somewhere in nato behind closed doors and i believe that would be a guaranteed to ensure that the intervention is affect the lives serves the interests of the opposition forces briefly what what do you think tonight the future is for colonel gadhafi went how do you think this is going to play out. when my personal view is that colonel gadhafi will never be able to restore control over the parts of the country that he has lost i cannot predict how long he will remain in control of tripoli in the area around it maybe he can manage to survive for a few weeks maybe for a few months although i would exclude that but he will never be able to achieve his objective which is to restore his complete authority in the country the worst that can happen of course is that he might end up dividing libya into two parts which is something that nobody wants ok dr alexander has me

a single action in politics it's time for university thank you could have been a problem. thank you can pictures of tuck ahead in the program much more laid back we invite you to come traveling with us across russia sees close to the edge of the city of heroes lovell's part two of our program we explore the age old traditions of breathtaking landscapes are transformed into a lucrative business savvy law the rigorous lab is coming up it later in the program. the u.s. state department wants billions of dollars from congress to fight an information war against media outlets like r.t. secretary of state hillary clinton admitted that america is losing the battle it needs to launch a counterattack professor of journalism christopher chambers the from things that washington know will fight through reporting with pure propaganda. the corporatization don't mess to clean up american news has basically thrown out the whole need for news gathering and real reporting in exchange for punditry and

entertainment and sensationalism because that's going to deliver the demographics to the guys who pay for the commercials what's happening is we've opened up these huge gaps because we're more concerned with reality t.v. and people arguing and people attacking the president than we are with having people on the ground finding out what the problem the problems are and when you do that you can produce a product that people here and around the world are going to respect the amount of money we're talking about she could literally set up an entire. voice for america on steroids a real state run news network she's not that's not what's going to happen they're going to try to go into these countries and probably try to bind news basically to be a true propaganda arm rather than a news gathering and reporting outlet which is what our t. al-jazeera and the chinese network are going to be yes they're going to have their messages but they're real news networks they are pretty much where c.b.s. a.b.c. n.b.c.

some profit taking in the russian markets despite a positive opening of the trading session there are several reasons to the profit taking one thing to keep in mind is that the russian index is up around four percent during this week also today we've seen so much influence u.s. existing seven released towards the end of the trading session payrolls number the number one ninety two thousand. and that's despite the inflation that has been a key issue for the u.s. consumer inflation on food and on gasoline due to the heightens environment of global oil prices so so far we see we seeing that the u.s. consumption has not been hit but by the inflation which is a positive and encouraging signal for the market. the gazprom led nord stream consortium has secured almost three and a half billion dollars for the construction of the second phase of the pipeline generate the funds were thirty percent financed by shareholders and seventy percent from international financial markets with twenty four banks involved construction
