6:32 pm
it's time for tonight's tool time award and we're giving it to a husband and wife team that want to be the next president and first lady of the united states all signs point to mitt and ann romney making another run at the lighthouse at last the two thousand and eight republican nomination of john mccain and for years many people have complained that he's a little out of touch he doesn't connect with the average american and let's face it romney is a successful businessman who's worth millions he's never had that joe six-pack image but he held looks like his wife and is trying to help develop an article over the weekend in the l.a. times writer paul west was discussing the make over of romney ahead of two thousand and twelve and this line about mitt has everybody talking he's going tieless on network t.v. strolling the nascar pits in daytona and sporting skinny jeans for him by his wife
6:33 pm
so ok ok everybody hold the phone mitt romney is wearing skinny jeans and his wife and bought them for him is a little ridiculous that we found some photos of him in jeans walking in the pits of the daytona five hundred a few weeks ago but we couldn't tell if they were from gap but you made it and really think that wearing a pair of gab skinny jeans is all that it's going to take to get elected come on people voters are smarter than that they can smell republican elite who just pandering to the middle and lower class and p.s. skinny jeans are for hipsters and sorry rich but they're democrats not to mention the mid has a history of flip flopping on most issues and looks like a t.v. dad left over from the one nine hundred fifty s. so we're calling it b.s. on this whole romney make over and that's why mitt and ann romney are tonight's two all time winners. now let's turn to leakers and i'm not talking about julian assange though this man shies away from the spotlight and shies away from the word
6:34 pm
dissidents because he's heard it all too many times before especially lately from the last jon young co-founder of cryptome dot org has been using his website to expose government secrets for the past fifteen years archie's lauren lyster got a rare chance to follow him at work as he decrypts the streets of new york city. on . a winter's day rendezvous with an unusual tour guide and critic critic we are here with john young he started the website or he got a game about ten years before wiki leaks did write releasing classified and secret documents of governments from all over the world on his site and another thing that he does is he goes all over photographing what you call sensitive sites right here where we're near some right now to grab them and put them on his website for the world to see and he thought us tag along and he's going to show us new york city through his eyes we begin outside the federal courthouse where terrorism suspects
6:35 pm
are tried photos john is published of places like this as well as the police and judicial headquarters known as the ring of steel where he's taking us now have led the f.b.i. to visit him and critics to say he's putting national security at risk and move on her into a risk to our society this is the third world will notice all the birders john says post nine eleven america has amounted to a buildup of secrecy seen all over areas like this in what he calls security theater. at the. time there's an officer around every corner that wants to know what we're doing they claim they're going through this you will trip john opposes the fortress looking buildup like this secured entrance outside the prosecutor's offices and he also thinks in this particular case it's a decoys i don't. that the prosecutors are an awful. lot here john is an architect by trade so he reads buildings like books and the biggest thing he sees coming out
6:36 pm
of this area is the money being made these are huge. they call them government operation but there are completion of huge contracts. just down the street this federal building houses that f.b.i. there's an underground driveway for the purpose but john has discovered it's not all it's for medical as it seems you can go in here a picture of tyranny you didn't show up here you weren't going to you know despite all of these discoveries there is one place john hasn't found the cia office next stop wall street at first purportedly the world's largest repository of gold yes even more than fort knox house mostly for other countries behind this wall of the new york federal reserve eight feet of concrete there's nothing for someone to walk to get it but much gold and filming around the financial center of arguably the world we are met with skepticism the third officer of the day. nonetheless the tour goes on wall street brings
6:37 pm
a cobblestone pavement to make it look more and more security you can get into it you see that a lot of security official borders because not much financial action truly happens here anymore john says the point of seeing the security firsthand though is to question more should we really be popping this much money into the showboating operation which i'm trying to mislead the the hyperbole about this. is all these recalls to try to not see if you don't hear from listeners out there go look lauren lyster r.t. new york. we've been talking about it for months but now it's official yesterday president obama signed an executive order to create a formal system of indefinite detention for those still held at guantanamo bay they also plan to rescind the suspension of military commissions which obama had originally stopped on his first day in office now the executive order will apply to at least forty eight of one hundred seventy two detainees still held the kid no one for the rest it sets
6:38 pm
a supposedly new system of review where detainees can argue that they should be released because they no longer pose a threat but considering that this war on terror seems never ending the congress has imposed barriers to transfer detainees even if they believe them not to be a threat there if you system doesn't sound too promising so we say that this seals the deal they give no we'll continue to be open for years to come and it makes us question if obama has done a complete one eighty in two years or if he was never really serious about closing the facility to begin with his disgust with me is that giuliani reporter and blogger for think progress dot org and a progress report the center for american progress action fund so thanks so much for being here thanks for having me also what's your take do you think that it's still the deal obama gave a very short statement when he signed this executive order didn't even mention closing gitmo last month we heard leon panetta cia director say that if they are very kind of some of bin laden they would send him to get go which means it's still open for business so you know if you're to say well here's the thing two years ago
6:39 pm
president obama came into office and said very proudly very rightly we're going to close this place down he actually cited executive orders that within a year we're going to close this place down but things are falling apart we had congress and i and the fines. to close the operation down to bring the president stateside and we even had people in small world towns in illinois saying sure the detainees here you know we could use the stimulus from building prisons for these people and yet congress has provided a gigantic roadblock his administration has buckled under pressure from the right wing. you know maybe we won't put everyone in civilian trials maybe we won't return to war since the american justice that work for you know the first hundred seventy two hundred years of american history and so they're going to go for these military tribunals so what we're really seeing is a complete breakdown of what was a really really great promise of obama on the campaign trail to shut down guantanamo and to return to the same sense of justice the fear is that we're trying for our first two centuries before the law to practice wondering if obama didn't
6:40 pm
really need it sure it's one thing to say that i want one time of day to be close right that we don't know longer want to have a military detention facility in cuba but obama was always you know a supporter of the fact that some people are going to have to be detained indefinitely there are some people that we just can't try that are just too dangerous that we can't bring them to the courts and if his only option was to move to illinois then i don't really buy that he thinks that this is you know a black mark on america's legacy i mean i think it's a mixed bag i mean one thing they did when he came into office was they've been the use of torture obviously didn't believe in waterboarding which none of us to believe it oh yeah he also experienced certain doctrines like preventive detention which is basically putting people. in detention indefinitely without trial and intuition is a doctrine for some for certain individuals and that actually goes further than the bush administration did it for in terms of use of civil liberties abuses of human rights so certainly it's a mixed bag i think he has moved toward a number of ways but in other ways it's obviously
6:41 pm
a gigantic isn't it if he's going to open to continue to see the policy of indefinite detention is sort of a sort of made almost official a legal a this is what this recent executive order i think is definitely disappointing for a lot of civil liberties advocates out there for a lot of progress is but one of the things that i find the most disturbing and disappointing about the whole thing is now we have representative peter king who also wants to start hearings on islamophobia in the last who is saying that he applauds obama for signing this thing. order and obama has vindicated george bush and proven that he's always right do you think that's the message this sends and i think that's what obama people in the administration of people like eric holder who actually came out at the start of the administration very strongly talking about returning is to justice and fairness is what they need to think about they're making the bed with people like peter king with people on the extreme right in the far right who really hate our system of justice who hate putting tears behind bars in a strong fashion which we've done for centuries of the united states and our normal
6:42 pm
justice system people who hate the idea of our constitution of people who think the the only way that we can really get justice you know we protect ourselves by becoming barbarians by the ring away or project is our freedoms how far are we hearing more from democrats right now you've got to think about it right somebody democrats probably got elected on the fact that they were supporting obama in this top priority when he was first elected to be president now it's maybe not a priority in anymore because well we have high unemployment because the economy's in the hole but it was a priority then so why aren't we hearing those voices the only people that we're hearing from are rand paul and mike lee two republicans well there have been some democrats jerry nadler has always been really good at these issues he's kind of spoke of tiny tiny things. and actually that you mention are actually really promising to me because one thing that we've always had you know we had democrats always fighting with each other of his over these issues but one thing with almost always had is that the republicans will be united against our constitution against basically which really is this is that just isn't fair is that we had
6:43 pm
a pretty bush days but senator rand paul and mike lee both agreed that it's a terrible idea to have a definite intention they both want to go back to what worked for centuries in the united states which is basically people in this italian court as if they're guilty put him behind bars that they're not guilty let him go it's very simple and very american. can agree with you more on that what do you think of this new review process that obama is putting into place. they get to you know have a review in front of a panel every three years so that sounds like they're planning on keeping these people for a while they're allowed to call we. this is who are out there just posable i'm not quite sure what a detainee that's been locked up for the last eight years is going to have contact with a witness that's at their disposal you know a lot of people are saying it's kind of a joke this process i mean overall it's not a good process it's not it's not all we need to be doing with people anywhere just in the state where the the terrorism suspects are in the books very other crime but isn't some ways an improvement over what bush was doing a colleague of mine explained this to me today that is actually it is the sort of
6:44 pm
the military prosecutors that have a military system and if i the juries actually are pretty great or pretty good people they do offer appears sense of justice within the framework of the military tribunals so therefore going to keep this really terrible framework of how we deal with a military tribunals and i give in to the civilian justice system this is probably the best way to do it because i kind of course a lot of legal experts out there will point to the fact that these military commissions are rather new are pretty untested that they have a much lower rate of you know actually convicting terror detainees in their stall a lot of questions surrounding this but certainly a big disappointment from the obama administrations that thanks so much for joining us it's not only now coming up the world's sexiest spies testing out a new job to be in the political field details on that straight ahead and it's international women's day we'll tell you how women around the world are celebrating and how women here in the u.s. are working towards ensuring equal rights between white men and women of the right that's.

length. well she's back again anna chapman the ex russian spy who was sent packing for the u.s. last summer is again gaining or old wide attention a former secret agent has launched a flashy new web site to promote herself but many people believe that this site is going to be used to launch her political career he and his potential bid for russian parliament is rumored to have the backing from prime minister vladimir putin's political party and as we spoke about on the show numerous times and other red headed femme fatale was expelled from the u.s. along with nine other other russians for spying now since i'm returning it to russia she's been very busy with a very public career she's posed wearing lingerie the russian edition of maxim she's launched her own i phone out she's made a series of flamboyant public appearances and she's lantern aims to happen a dozen different consumer products ranging from clothing to vodka as the rumors
6:48 pm
growth she's about to enter the world of politics and his priorities seem to be changing she wrote on her website before returning to moscow in july two thousand and ten i aspired to personal harmony i was more concerned with my own happiness but in due course my ideology changed i came to understand the fulfillment in life comes from helping those around me. that sounds like a politician ask me and it's also made a return to social media she has accounts on twitter and facebook but she hasn't sent out very many tweets and we're not friends with her on facebook so we couldn't going to much information about her but we do know that she's following the white house on their twitter account so maybe she's trying to stay updated on what's really taking place here in the u.s. either way and as media blitz is still big news in russia here in the u.s. and all around the world. now since today is international women's day we thought it would only be appropriate to tell you about this special day and how it came to
6:49 pm
be it was originally celebrated back in the early one nine hundred when women were sent to work in factories during. industrial revolution and the idea was to create a day every year where women can voice their opinions on everything from working conditions to women's roles in politics to the issues dealing with suffrage and this concept spread all over europe asia and the middle east but it wasn't recognized here in the u.s. until one thousand nine hundred seventy five when the un sanctioned the day as an international holiday. but now let's fast forward to today it's twenty eleven and even though the role of women in society has changed dramatically there are still constant efforts to create equality between men and women and there's even evidence of this call for change all over the world and egypt people came out for the million woman march calling for equality between men and women and also to remind the public about the role of women during the country's revolution there are gatherings in the middle east where women showed up at checkpoints march through cities honoring them in state in the ivory coast where the people are also in
6:50 pm
a brutal battle to overthrow their government we've been united to protest the killing of several women last week but here in the u.s. well there isn't quite the same attention paid to the international holiday i only got one flower from one coworker i don't think that's right now hillary clinton and first lady michelle obama will be attending the women's courage award ceremony and there's still much more that needs to be addressed though when it comes to protecting women's rights here in the u.s. keep some of these factors in mind more than half of minimum wage are with minimum wage jobs excuse me in the u.s. are held by women women are also victim to a paid disparity of seventy seven cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts and well when it comes to women's health we've spoken at length about how the g.o.p. is waging a war on women attacking everything from planned parenthood to abortion laws to women's health care in general so on this day we'd like to remind all of you at
6:51 pm
home to appreciate the women in your lives and to stand up and fight for women's rights and we thank you for it. now in honor of the one hundredth anniversary of international women's day let's shine a light on a few stories that are making headlines out there in the u.k. the new james bond actor daniel craig is in a video exposing inequalities towards women while here in the u.s. people are up in arms over a new show based on a book called good christian peaches yeah those are the priorities people joining me from our studio in new york markets editor in chief of crushable dot com and author of save the assistants a guy for surviving and thriving in the workplace a leap bank so much for joining us now i just want to start right off the bat by playing this little video clip that daniel craig or james bond as most of us know it was was involved let's take a look. it's not just about money and power every year seventeen million girls are
6:52 pm
deprived of even a basic education and a staggering sixty million i was sexually assaulted on a way to school. ok i will eat so i'd say that that's kind of carpal right would you say that celebrities do you have the power to influence to get involved in political issues well i think the sheer number of people who watch the daniel craig video online today really speaks to that we actually posted it crushable and it was one of our biggest postcards day so what i love to see there is nothing sexier than a guy standing up for women and supporting them and you got to say daniel craig is kind of a good option in that sense right he's kind of a sexy guy for real. well we always see that video playing you know people in the u.k. trying to highlight the issues of women around the world the u.s. or may i just say fox news and perhaps certain christian advocates and publishers
6:53 pm
out there are really upset because there's a new series that has a pilot that is based on a book called good christian beaches and there's just been a pilot the network can't even pick that up yet and they're up in arms i mean really are those where our priorities lie. unfortunately for a lot of people the answer that question is yes i mean the fact that a twitter feed got turned into a t.v. show and they still had to bleep the title i think says a lot about what passes on that works these days and unfortunately people would rather complain about the title of a t.v. show because that's a strikes us often noticing that there are a lot of people out there trying to take women's rights away well you know i think this is something that a lot of people are debating too when it comes to the word bitch is it still valid is it always derogatory or has it become a little mainstream you know i love the jazz bill was using the example of a britney spears and some of her pop music to show that some people use it you know
6:54 pm
as a form of empowerment yeah absolutely i think you know elizabeth work sells book bitch was a great example of young feminists trying to reclaim the word bitch something that's positive i hear so many young women on the subway down the street calling each other bitch almost as a term of endearment i don't really think that it has the same tone that it used to but of course one of the other concerns with this suppose a t.v. show that may or may not come to be is that a lot of people feel or at least those who are hearing on fox news said that it gives a bad perception of christians do you think a little ironic to hear people say things like that on fox news the same network that constantly. spreads islamophobia and has anchors say things like all muslims are terrorists. yeah absolutely i mean the fact that they're so willing to scream discrimination about a show that doesn't even exist yet a pilot that's been cast and has even been filmed i think it's ridiculous and i
6:55 pm
think it's a diversion now let's talk about something we've spoken about on this show which is that the g.o.p. right now is waging a much broader war on women war on women's reproductive rights their rights to health services you could say you know with the defunding of planned parenthood i feel like not enough women out there know that this is happening how you spread the word. well i was really impressed by the huge turnout on law in that within the last few weeks getting people to sign up for walks in their town or city and encouraging people who didn't have one in their town to sign up and i think the internet is such a wonderful tool for organizing and it's such a great way to reach a lot of people at once so i would encourage people if all you use your facebook wall for is just to catch up with old friends or post what you're having for breakfast today think about what you can do via social networking and how you can get to where next out there about whatever issues you're interested in but how else do you feel about the fact that they're trying you know from my perspective i feel like they're completely trying to turn back the clock and they keep using this you
6:56 pm
know idea of abortion like it's the central issue behind it all but planned parenthood to this is something that provides health services this does cancer screening this t.v. screenings how can we allow something like this to happen yeah it is really sad and unfortunately because they were trying to make this an issue about abortion hillary clinton once said that she too doesn't want lots of abortions and for her the way to do that isn't so bad abortion or make it illegal for her that's to have good comprehensive available sex education because if people protect themselves and take care of themselves now there won't be unwanted pregnancies to abort in the first place and i really wish more people would think about all the other services that planned parenthood and organizations like it offer because that's what's really important abortions are such a small percentage of what they do. arlene i want to thank you very much for joining us and happy with ins day so you have definitely made a lot of phone calls to all my female family members today and you know let's make people keep talking about it thanks. thank you. now before we go tonight it's time
6:57 pm
for our tweets of the day fox news host megan kelly had quite an interesting tweet and a tease for her show she posted the following on line she said a man beats a one hundred pound woman into a coma over a parking space he claims she deserve it deserves it could he be right in kelly's court now as we mentioned this is international women's day so tonight we bring that all women of the world should tweet a little something to megan are you stupid or something probably so this is a loner scorch and that's it for tonight's show thanks for tuning in maitri come back tomorrow forbes announces the world's billionaires list its annual ranking of the world's richest people so all tax on the foreign middle class are stronger than ever how is it that the rich are simply becoming richer we'll get into that question for moral and the meantime don't forget to become a fan of a lot of show on facebook and follow us on twitter and if you missed any of tonight's show or any other nights you can always catch it all you tube dot com slash the lower show or of course the interviews as well as the show is its
