be the first to loosen their grip and who's budget climate's out of our mountain of debt plus even though american employers may be given male and female employees equal opportunities without paying them equally i'll explore the growing gap from what men and women earn in this country. you need to know this republicans will likely vote on paul ryan's two thousand and twelve budget this week you know the one the benefits only the top one percent of americans that sells off medicare to for profit health insurance company leeches it hands an enormous tax cut to millionaires and billionaires and sinks or a nation deeper into debt and that's not stopping progress is in the house of

introducing their own budget one this serves the other ninety nine percent of the american people a progressive twenty twelve budget saves money by ending the wars in iraq and afghanistan. it ends taxpayer subsidies to transnational oil corporations it closes tax loopholes it raises the estate tax on the super rich it ends the bush tax cuts like driving a stake through the heart of a vampire and adding a surtax on millionaires in america and with that extra money progress is will invest one point four five trillion dollars into job creation green energy and education as well as create public health insurance option unlike the republican budget proposal the congressional budget proposal or office rather reports that the progressive budget will actually a limit eight our nation's deficit entirely by twenty forty so with these two roads

in front of america paul ryan's paid by corporate owned republicans and the other by progressives looking out for the rest of us isn't pretty clear which one is best for our nation joining me now to explore this tale of two budgets and how the debate will unfold is our old friend of one of the finest progressive legislators in the house of representatives organ congressman peter de fazio congressman de fazio welcome back to our program or shape the opportunity first you know kind of a set up question here why didn't the democrats deal with the budget last year when they held the house. so it's kind of a said tale you know after we were marched over the cliff accepting the first we did the stimulus with three hundred forty billion dollars of tax cuts having eliminated bunch of investment education transportation infrastructure real job creation by the democratic leadership so obama could get three republican senate

votes then we were marched over the cliff accepting the senate version of health care reform without at least national exchanges certainly without a public plan option you know and then and then came the cap and trade bill the dream of wall street let's monetize the carbon emissions and and begin gambling in them trillion dollar market. the house was at the point of saying look you know we're not passing any more bills unless they're actually going to come up in the senate in a form where we can have a meaningful discussion and the senate just couldn't get there because of the unconstitutional rule that they have to have sixty votes to get up in the morning and say the prayer right so it's nothing happened well paul ryan's budget due to our nation. it's a pretty extraordinary document incredibly duplicitous first as you pointed out

earlier. twenty forty we would still be running very large deficits under the ryan plan but what it would do is enrich the top one percent and particularly the top one tenth of one percent of people those were in well over a billion dollars a year reduce their tax rates right up front by more than thirty percent and make those cuts permanent reduce corporate tax rates he dances around because he comes from an egg state but actually if you read into the details he keeps all the subsidies in agriculture would still pay people not to grow things corporate farmers we would cut back on those other wasteful spending like women infant children you know feeding young pregnant moms or young babies and the food stamp program which unfortunately record number of people in my district need right now to get because of the crummy economy and then you know continue pretty much business as usual at the pentagon all he takes is the proposed obama cuts which is

just a little bit of a whitewash not that significant nothing about the wars the war spending and other weapons systems we don't need it will never use and then finally you know he privatizing medicare yeah and that's the most ironic part of what he proposes is it's an extraordinary member democrats were just takes cory ated for having set up exchanges that would be regulated by the federal government well they're actually state changes and fortunately not nationally we don't have a public plan option but yeah they'll be some state exchanges that are somewhat regulated that was that was called socialism under obamacare and then the huge cuts in medicare that is we're going to go with the lower the profit margins margins on these private medicare advantage plans well the republicans keep that reform they're going to still lower the profit margins on the medicare medicare private events plans i.e. they're going to cut it. care and then they're going to tell people fifty five and younger sorry you may have been paying into medicare every working day of your life

it's not going to be there for you instead you will go to a government exchange and you will get a you know a government approved plan which won't have any limits on what it can charge for your premiums won't have any limits on who they can discriminate against in terms of preexisting condition or age or is the eggs or anything else and will pay a set amount toward you or toward you or. your premium unbelievable it's amazing congressman we just have a couple of minutes very quickly i'm getting calls you know we do a three hour radio show every day and we have a message board over its common and we're getting slammed by people saying that president obama touches or harms medicare or social security is part of some kind of compromise of the republicans that literally people who worked their butts off for him and gave money to him are just going to walk away bowl progressive's got

forty thousand signatures in two hours today on a similar petition people saying that they would withhold both the nation's and support but wall street wants that two point seven trillion dollars money in social security and they can do a lot of good or harm to a presidential campaign that needs a billion bucks you've said that president obama is not acting like a democrat does this all tie together and what you mean by that well i mean all the pundits are saying he just figures his challenge is to the right and he wants to be sort of center right he wants to be the angela merkel of the u.s. i guess it's not working well for her he just lost a bit of the action and i forget the name of the state right yeah exactly so that seems to be what's going on plus the themes they have is incredibly conflict of ours and his negotiating style is ok here i'll give you everything you want now let's start targeting. and that's what he did on the tax cuts with the republicans that's what he just did now with this budget compromise and we're very very

concerned we're going to go with his two thousand and twelve plan and he's got to draw the line i mean come on this is a program created by democrats medicare it took seniors out of poverty it created you know a healthier senior class that is not twenty two percent in poverty and no private insurance company wants to sell premium policies and seniors a reasonable price so let's not pretend let's not enrich that industry let's take it to seniors let's not invented here on his watch if he stood up and said medicare will not end on my watch as president i think a lot of us would be standing up and cheer and absolutely on this side to congressman peter de fazio who joins such a fine job in congress thank you so much for joining us tonight. you know a budget isn't just.

also have one pool that's been on fire and others that could catch on fire at turn noble by comparison there was one reactor that exploded and burned. how does radiation cause cancer birth defects and other problems well it's very energetic material at a microscopic level in the form of gamma radiation which is like x. rays it blasts through your body damaging the molecules of your cells your tissues your d.n.a. and it can introduce changes or damage that can then turn into a cancer if a fetus is exposed to such radiation and it can do damage to various organs that are in development causing birth the facts and then the genetic material for future generations can also be altered or harmed so there are various forms of radioactivity the internal emitters are especially dangerous and gamma radiation blasts through and doesn't stay on it but these internal emitters things like alpha particles like plutonium stay in the body for the rest of your life and do their

damage slowly particles that can knock a hole and knock knock so maddening earth i mean are gone or so the scene out of a different d.n.a. radioactive poisons go to different parts of the human body so that you know active cesium one thirty seven goes to human muscle tissue strontium ninety goes to bones tony i'm can go to bones can go to the gonads a speck of plutonium in the lawns a microscopic speck can cause lung cancer and typically does is there anything we can do to mitigate remedy the effects of of radiation. not really there are potassium iodide tablets that they're trying to do against one of the scores of radioactive poisons that escape you and. i had on one thirty one given and given and given the all it takes is one alpha particle one gamma ray knocking one piece of a d.n.a. strand out of whack in a way that or maybe a couple of them in a way that causes that that cell then when it goes through my toes is or is that

of progressive organizations like the u.s. chamber watch sci you and move on dot org not to mention center for american progress of lee himself the latest find is a powerpoint presentation listing dozens of organizations and individuals with the chambers said these are their words discredit confuse shame combat infiltrate fracture in addition the u.s. congress is currently looking into the matter as well as whether or not these private data security firms are also contracting with the us government last week in an armed services subcommittee hearing. and johnson pressed terry aki acting assistant secretary for the department of defense office of networks and information integration about current government contracts for the firm was involved in the chamber leak scandal you know what and i would like to request copies of been you know contracts between a department of defense and the country to go to three country that i mentioned
