the publisher of a finished basement website which supports terrorism escapes prosecution over his links with extremism but failed to go on trial for helping chechens into finland illegally. the actions of nato in libya should return to a diplomatic level off the limits of the un resolution says russian foreign minister sergey lavrov of the summit would be a month in. and the global financial system must be overhauled to prevent future disasters says the russian president the start of an economic meeting in china asia that.
2:01 pm
it's a national news from our studios here in central moscow this is our teachers post ten pm here in the russian capital a nine pm in finland where the publisher of a finnish based website affiliated with internationally wanted terrorists has gone on trial however authorities in helsinki are turning a blind eye to his extremist links and instead prosecuting store short for allegedly smuggling chechens into finn and last season he said now is following the story from outside the court in helsinki. but hearing has begun in the criminal case against me sir who is the founder and main editor of the website called cost center this is a site that according to international law nor certainly according to russell falls into the category of terrorist propaganda that is not what this hearing is about. is accused of smuggling illegally individuals into finland some five hundred people
2:02 pm
which he himself has said are militants here of course calls them freedom fighters charges for smuggling have also been brought against the brother of chechen terrorists show meal but. he was on the internationally most wanted list for many years a sigh of is the mastermind behind many terror attacks in russia including the best song school siege and he was killed five years ago by russian security forces so prosecutors focusing on illegal immigration here many critics wondering why it's being ignored that this man runs a site that spews propaganda about a man that has made it very clear they want his main goals is to take as many russian lives as possible he may not look like a supporter of terrorism but torture founded and runs this website said turk propaganda mouthpiece for one of the world's most wanted terrorist and declared by the un to have links with al qaeda go tomorrow is responsible for some of russia's
2:03 pm
most horrific recent terror attacks the moscow metro blast and the deal made out of an airport bombing which total killed almost eighty people and injured nearly three hundred the cycle still kumar of a president transmits messages about those he views as his enemies and carries ads for books about the life of a mujahideen islamic fighter the situation he's the. one he's associated they are working for the politicization of islamist spring feeling . they want to make radicals stores or is being prosecuted not for any. terrorism bought for illegally smuggling some one hundred individuals into finland people who he calls freedom fighters the way the porter center writes about the situation it's a it's a contaminating the finish. writing of
2:04 pm
a scene with. underworld what are you writing rewriting of it's couric to tell me there are terrorist attacks in russia this is the company that houses the web site located right in the center of helsinki meanwhile opponents of islamic extremism or those who speak out against it are being persecuted by finnish authorities for allegedly violating minority rights you han mori a finnish pastor was defrocked fired from his ministry with no severance pay and forced to divorce his wife to protect her from the death threats he received these came from a dog more of himself and said the pastor and his loved ones would have their heads cut off the clerks church decided he was threatening a legitimate website and criminal cases for inciting racial hatred have been launched more there is says he's trying to make something positive out of losing his job because all the time i have been busy with my work but no have. got it
2:05 pm
right it will subside and spread awareness about a site that has ripped his life apart burning propaganda about a man who's torn apart the lives of thousands and he's now a r.t. helsinki. well if you've ever wondered where speaking your mind can land you can check out the special section on our website it's called attention never criticized paris there online you can hear the exclusive confessions artie of the defrocked finnish priest you just saw in that report pastor mohler he landed himself in hot water with the police right after that very interview with us here on r.t. and also enjoyed the work of a courtroom it's they have their own take on the story about all this on the dot com also. tonight i can't even explain what i felt inside when i met him he gave me when i saw him. russian what michelle describes how she fell under the charms of not over me italian prime minister her full revelations of r.t.
2:06 pm
dot com for you and the highlights of this interview coming up in just a few minutes in the program here on r.t. stay with us for. the situation in libya is once again become a leading issue at the nato conference in berlin with russia joining the discussion foreign minister sergey lavrov has stressed moscow's stance over the military operations saying the protection of civilians is the main priority however he was critical of some of the methods adopted by the alliance parties is in but in force . and major john seems to be quite interesting page regarding the operation being carried out and we will air strikes continue on simply secretary-general rasmussen has called those countries to provide their fighter jets in order to complete the mission which in his view of nature is for colonel gadhafi to step down but this is not quite what the u.n. security council resolution initially just now the nine hundred seventy three
2:07 pm
resolution suggested that mission would be in it's up to the civilians in libya that is now serving into a bloody massacre. today we witnessed the actions of. the framework defined by the security council it's already being discussed that resolution one thousand nine hundred three could also be used to ground operations resolution does not josh and does not approve them nor does the u.n. general support regime change in libya. president barack obama and president sarkozy together with the british prime minister i have written a letter to colonel gadhafi to say that the only way that nato forces are going to leave the country if is that if he steps down in fact so far france and britain have been the most active in carrying out. the b. and they have gone for other countries to also join the operation for saving just billions there however so far only six out of twenty eight member states of major
2:08 pm
have participated in the operations which when the operation which gives you an idea perhaps a major itself in that is not that unanimous in making the decisions about libya despite secretary-general rasmussen statement that member states are on board russia believes that if what rebels and major want to achieve in libya is to form a new government and for gadhafi to step down that the only way to achieve that would be to put the two sides to the negotiation table. determine libya's future we need both sides of the conflict to stop to see one another with heavy weapons. that would be far better than resorting to intimations the lives of a huge number of civilians. russia has also said that it is no watchdog to what's happening in libya and that and security council should be monitoring whether the resolution it's implemented it introduced it is being implemented correctly. before more in this week and across a lot of patrick hayes he's
2:09 pm
a reporter for the news website spiked dot com he's joining us live in london good to see patrick thanks for joining us now the u.k. foreign secretary william hague claims that the coalition was completely unified over libya one of his later statements i gather he gave yesterday would you agree with that. so i think it's kind of very much with full thinking on william hague's behalf this i think really instead what we've seen over the last month now is basically a geo political mayhem where you have countries who are all in this kind of shabby coalition which is kind of flaking off not really knowing what they're trying to achieve with no real sense of a strategy no real sense of an endgame whatsoever so i think william hague is really engaging in some wishful thinking with one of your colleagues has written on your website that this whole libyan issues being treated like a hot potato nobody wants to hold on hold on to it for very long why is that do you think. well i completely agree that america you think has been a passing of the parking lot everyone's been kind of goading each other on saying
2:10 pm
well it's going to step in but no one's really wanted to get to committed and i think it is due to the fact that really what you have an official ration is this kind of moralistic assertion of we need to go in and do something we need to intervene but they don't really know what's there's no real sense of an end game what they want to try and achieve and really ultimately know not to take responsibility for there's been a very noticeable lack of leadership in this whole situation but they do know what they want to do don't they the u.s. britain france they made a statement just today prioritizing the removal of get their feet they say he's got to go now of course that is something that the u.n. resolution doesn't allow a direct regime change but surely the obvious next step is to remove gadhafi and the conflict ends and it's the end of civilian deaths. well it's very striking that you know it takes a month for effectively thoughts are cameron and obama to make this statement so you know we have this united front which was on the washington washington post the
2:11 pm
times and the moment today but i think this is actually very opportunistic especially on behalf of obama who has actually been very hands off and not wanting to commit and still isn't committing any troops he's not committing any airplanes i think it's really the way i would characterize this is more kind of p.r. imperialism these are kind of the western leaders grandstanding on the international stage for a very short term goals they don't really know what they want to achieve but they're doing it for their own personal reasons try to make themselves look like kind of great international leaders and actually i think really what they're doing is they're diverting attention away from the kind of the old. managerial politics they're engaged in a home you know kind of a great sense of a moment in is lacking at home but how they're trying to do it over here in thirty four say where is the libyans also are saying we want a regime change there is a very good reason this is people we want to democracy instead of gadhafi isn't that justification that's
2:12 pm
a very good reason isn't it for the west to be involved in this. i think actually it's a good reason for the west really back off and let people bring about that change for themselves fundamentally democratic democracy imogene change needs to come from people fighting from the street a grass roots going to battle it can be handed to people on a plate by basically western leaders through sweeping in like guardian angels and removing that six hundred. fifty guardian angels exactly what some of those libyan people are watching at the moment look at the situation as a rotter people are dying civilians are dying should we just sit back and let that happen do you think. now i grieve that really really you know what is happening there is very harrowing and it's very harrowing sit back and watch it but in the long term things will be made worse things are always made worse by western intervention coming in people need to be allowed to determine their own fate they need to be able to make history for themselves and it's only through that process of struggling against tyrants such as gadhafi that they can really bring about true
2:13 pm
democratic change what we've seen historically is when the west comes in they basically leave a vacuum now that the west is effectively saying here we can't allow the libyan people to take control of the matters in their own hands because they might end of a failed state but they need to be allowed to take those risks they need to be able to go out onto the street and say i'm going to make history i'm going to get rid of gadhafi i don't need western help because when you have this kind of safety net from the west when you have these guardian angels coming in you no longer determine your own future because that really i imagine it's the end game is for those people in libya to have a different future to have what they're hoping is maybe a democratic government if there is western pressure and involvement in that to achieve that end game but it really matter if that result is achieved with the libyan people's intentions. was very hard to talk about an endgame because it's only really today that you know there's been this united front thing getting rid of gadhafi i think this point has been very unclear what they're trying to achieve in this and even if they got rid of gadhafi i mean you've really got to say well what
2:14 pm
looks like it's going to happen at the moment is actually you're going to have effectively the same regime the gadhafi regime just minus get out the so you have a lot of people who are involved who kind of movers and shakers in the gadhafi regime who are now engaging in this kind of civil war in libya and basically the rebels are going to end up just having to deal with the people that end up winning that that civil war fundamentally when the west comes in and tries to intervene on behalf of the libyan people the power is taken away from them the democratic initiative is taken away from the libyan people and instead it's put in the hands of western western elites and i think that's really problematic patrick hayes very interesting to hear your point of view thanks very much for joining us live there in london spiked dot com thank you. well the russian prime minister has said it's too premature to speak about him running for the twenty twelve presidential election the statement comes as many putin met with politicians from the country's
2:15 pm
leading united russia party but is short. live now with the latest in central moscow sure why is he asking for less attention to be paid to his potential role in the next presidential race. well bill it certainly has been a very interesting week in russian national politics in terms of speculating who will run for that our position of president but out of state will it be made again for a second term or will it be the current prime minister vladimir putin who is held that position in the past this of course prompted him to go to the united russia party of which he is the head of to speak with top party officials and say look guys it's truly a bad election isn't until twenty twelve it's still a ways away and we still need to focus on the. state duma elections which are coming up this year on december fourth of two thousand and eleven but let me give you a little bit of history about why this has been such a big deal this week and particularly ahead of the brics summit meeting in china we
2:16 pm
could have met with the chinese media and in that he was asked about possible divisions in policy different ways different directions that he might be going away from the body or put him in terms of how the country is being run he said yes there are some the areas where they disagree but this is part of a healthy democracy it's part of a system that works now the two of them have been friends for a long time in fact in that interview made good of that mention that he had been friends with a lot of important for more than half of his a life that you are at least politically they're linked as his friends are so there's a lot of speculation always in the international community when it comes to these two and who runs the country you might remember earlier there was a wiki leaks leak from the u.s. saying that it meant get out of is that the robin to push things batman this going back to of course when vladimir putin was the president and then there was speculation that when dmitri mcginn of came into power but he was just filling in
2:17 pm
for that role the reason we're going to stepping down from the presidential position is because by law he had to do term limits now that he has sat out a term he is now eligible to run again but of course the current president would get others eligible for one again as well this leading to some speculation both men have said that they are not out of the running in fact in that same interview president instead of said that he would not count himself out of the running because he is the current president it does make sense but that that decision would come shortly this interview talk to the united russia party to start hinting if you will that they would be in support of a vladimir putin presidency come two thousand and twelve this leading to today's discussion where he reportedly. for his party officials and said look we have the state duma elections coming up on december fourth we need to focus on that and there's work to be done we shouldn't be premature at all so very interesting we can be and of course in the international community the world likes to see these two
2:18 pm
put it against each other or say one of them is weaker than the other but two strong leaders of the world's largest country it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out absolutely right sean time will tell thank you very much indeed for that live update and so from us here good to see that. italy is at it met a prime minister silvio berlusconi has once again found himself in the midst of a series of scandalous headlines but there's one person standing loyally by his side r.t. met with rice a school canary who claims to be a long time friend and close call for them of the pm describing but as carney is a perfect gentleman she thinks the accusations aimed at him all lies designed to tarnish his good name. just friends but close ones that's what. it says of her relationship with silvio berlusconi which she serves as exceptionally warm and friendly she's been a guest at his famed parties which have landed him in rather hot water. a closer
2:19 pm
together than ever earlier we were together like this but now we're much much closer together how did you feel a little of what kind of impression did him a. i can't even explain what i felt inside when i met him he gave me goosebumps when i saw him because he's a very handsome man it was love at first sight is such a gentle man one hundred percent man in every sound some new witnesses and berlusconi is a case of party guests behaved indecently and they were also encouraged to take part in some kind of free will is game what can you tell us about berlusconi's parties. i once was he's new year's party and we all glided smoothly to the dance floor it was a d.j. and we just started dancing it drains and cool things floating around the place and they were man that only women as the media sats once he invited to special dance show but it wasn't like anything out of rages it was
2:20 pm
a beautiful line rouge style show can you tell us about the presence that mr berlusconi gave. silvio gives presents to all women not to man he has special scarves for laddie and he gives them to women like a memento of visiting berlusconi might be a pin or a ring nothing expensive or a scarf everything is made especially for him so that he can give his own presents . who could benefit from the scandal. connies being attacked by a special media campaign but the good news it's the communists of course it's that who else would benefit they want to get rid of him as fast as possible by any means i don't know they might even bring something from the moon and say that berlusconi did something there that's all we need right now. well if you like to watch this interview in full you can always check out our tease you tube channel.

more news today violence is once again flared up. these are the images the world has been seeing from the streets of canada. trying to corporations are. only changes will help the global financial system avoid future trouble i mean to me that it sent a clear message during annual economic forum in china event has been dubbed asia's davos as it brings together the political and business elites of the region well silly reports now from the venue. through the years of the a brics countries have come to be a blowout for a would be a consensus they have reached at the summit that they want to see reforms both the international financial system as well as those of global governance in order to reflect what they see as a former reality of. how are you cannot remove they are the best that you will
2:22 pm
offer they have brought up the right thing up and alternative to be a global reserve currency because apparently at dominated by the us dollar nothing gets put into detail but if you want to see reform in fact as well another thing they did bring up is be a situation in japan i think the profit president may get of wants to see our cooperation in the pursuit of nuclear energy specially safety mechanisms in dealing with capacities as they had seen in japan and i think today that they are bringing up is that the issue of social inequality that could arise from here is the economic growth so they don't want to see the bush becoming richer and the poor becoming more that gap widening therefore they don't want to sacrifice the ability in their pursuit of their economic goals well let's get more insight now i'm joined by mark mason from goldman sachs asia thank you very much for joining us now we have seen as you consensus from the brics summit how do you think a parent consensus is going to impact the canonic and radical so i think this is
2:23 pm
a very positive development for the world i think the fact that these five major economies across all the major of continents the world now come together in a coordinated fashion is very positive this being a general understanding of the rise of the economic power of the whole country is and also now with africa included the rise of these five areas and so i think europe and the us have been acutely aware of the never simple economic strength of rising strength of these areas and thinking carefully on how they are how to interact and deal with that but it's it's a reality thank you very much these economies certainly looking for. more cooperation and coordination economically but not is not the politically correct eventually all five countries are members of the u.n. security council they do want to see more influence in fact council and therefore they want to see be a pursuit again of their economic power in line with their political party as well
2:24 pm
. as in the reporting that will know it's time for kareena to update us on the nation's financial investments of the stage of the day. i would welcome to business report for joining me and we start with up top story on friday. they had a roast you have to go in a bid to personally salvage the swap deal between the two companies pay them to see newspaper reports the russian partners want forty billion dollars to get the way out. b.p. wouldn't tell us what robert dudley was in town to talk about but i think it's fair enough to assume that the sixteen billion dollars share swap deal between b.p. and ross next might have cropped up somewhere in the conversation what is the future of that deal at the moment well it lies in the hands of b.p. they've got to come to an agreement with their current russian partners. to buy out their shares in the joint venture g n k d p now
2:25 pm
a offer said they're willing to listen to what they call sensible proposals. that what is a sensible proposal they are have put a valuation of eighty billion dollars on t n k p p twenty billion dollars more than the company was valued at on the stock exchange at the beginning of the week now they'd be looking for half of that forty billion in order to relinquish their stake in that company now forty billion is far more than the twenty seven billion that was offered by b.p. on wednesday so both sides seem to have set out their starting points for negotiations they'll be looking to try and come to an agreement somewhere in the middle for this deal to go ahead the russian shareholders of t.n. k.b.p.s. said that they want to see a deal between the n.k.v.d. and sniffed over the the all important exploration of oil in the arctic now this is where we have a problem because. they want to deal with the tape not k.p.
2:26 pm
the head of ross never said that they'd already turned down a bit to buy into the interest in doing business with them they only want to deal with b.p. meds they feel nobody it seems because they have to also ruled out doing any deal with shell so it seems to be b.p. have to get their heads together come up with some kind of solution so they can put this put this this on going so it's a bit and come up with us all important often to their russian partners so that they can go ahead and do that deal with rosneft and explore for oil in the arctic. and norcross half. the company's head suggests the firm should be privatized in three to five years and not next year as the government is planning he says the state will make more money if the weights of the company will double in value by two thousand and sixteen the government wants to sell around fifteen percent of the spot of the largest population drive in the country's history. and look cool has hit outside government plans to increase the tax burden on our companies
2:27 pm
exclusively to business r t the company's president regularly warns it may reduce investment and production we should learn from the current tax system is a heavy oil company's projects we're doing a more profitable for us in the projects we're doing in russia and the increase in taxes may lead to the chlorine in all production and investment. have a look at how the markets are doing u.s. stocks are trading higher after a series of economic reports took some of this thing out of disappointing results from bank of america the dow is up point six percent while the nasdaq s. point two percent higher sizeable losses for google highlighted we could trading in tech stocks the internet giant shares fell nearly seven percent calling first quarter earnings that fell short of wall street's expectations and markets in europe closed and the black the footsie ended half a percent higher and the dax edged point four percent retail stocks were among the
2:28 pm
biggest gain as with u.k. i'd try an exchange dixon's rising almost three percent swedish national joined h. and the like for like sales fell by five percent in march from the same call a year earlier. here in russia stock exchanges closed mixed on friday the r.t.s. enters high otherwise it's finished in the red here are some of the markets movers otherwise x. blue coral finished in the black on news of its involvement in traps and to talk of bank was down up to reporting a seven percent fall in that profits for the first quarter under russian accounting standards and precious metals producers enjoyed a good day on the back of strong gold and silver coming up again five and a half percent. that's all i have for you this hour but other back with some updates in the next hour so try.
2:29 pm
to know the. question is the same up charge you know if i can no longer any more for my family for the nothing less than yet another legal information approved by the u.n. now in the ivory coast a former leader is unseated at the expense of hundreds of civilians. wealthy british style it's sometimes a matter of the money. markets .
