we've heard our guests not to say on the topics now we want to hear our audience has gone to you tube the video response board to twitter for part of the questions that we post on you tube every monday and on thursday and if so your response is going to leave your voice. so. you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so. you think you understand it and then you glimpse something else here's some other part of it and realized everything you thought you knew you
10:31 pm
don't know i'm sorry. all right it's time for it's an ides tool time award france and i we've got a double winner fox news and sean hannity the mouthpiece of the g.o.p. is out of the get it's friday night sean hannity is going to host an hour long program that looks at the left wing media bias here in the u.s. just take a look at their very new and very slick promo for this show go round listen chaps like left wing signs kill conservative thoughts criminalize conservative speech rights john calls out the mainstream media exposes the shocking truth used by the
10:32 pm
distributed media. yeah i'm really sure that this show where sean hannity is going to be very fair and balanced because we all know the fox news never ever take sides right here we a break but what's really funny about this program exposing left wing bias is that it's going to air just a few days after sean hannity's argument last night with a democratic congressman from minnesota sean was really upset with congressman keith ellison after he said in public that fox news has a habit of inciting islamophobia and racial and ethnic animosity here's part of that debate from last night this is an incredible charge this is a charge of bigotry you said the fox. i gave you a child of any one time on the road i want to quote you sure you said oh he's cool you heard him there of. he's writing to incite americans along religious lines. in the muslim community there i want one example i mean one example is the.
10:33 pm
hearings that. you refer to if you talk about everything you talk about terrorism and radicalization you always attach the word muslim to it or slavic. harrity actually claim that fox news never incites religious intolerance this summer not want his own channel he not realize that comments made on fox news and by their hosts are placed on line for the entire world to see and review even if they didn't catch it live on air here's fox news not inciting related intolerance. but the muslim brotherhood isn't just operating overseas what i've done with them yet we showed you in their own words that their goals include the transformation of america into an islamic state the destruction of the western world well i want to show you their branches or spinoffs that they've created operating in the united states you do have so do you think it's time for the military dad special the briefings of muslim army and civilian cers anybody enlisted because we're
10:34 pm
going to be deployed in a foxhole to get it out cause i got it i got to know the guy next to me is not going to want to kill but there's a reason there was a certain group of people they attacked us on nine eleven it wasn't just one person it was religion not all muslims are terrorists but all terrorists are muslims seventy percent of americans don't want that pos down there sure as hell do we. thank you carrots soon as they don't want is that why are you saying an appropriate. thank you for the sun this time i don't know right i. thank you and so on hannity you still want to play the five news doesn't have a habit of inciting islamophobia just those poor little clips proved you wrong i believe me we could find many many more talks news makes money by trying to incite
10:35 pm
islamophobia and racial and ethnic animosity and that's why fox news and sean hannity are tonight's tool time winners. now do you have a name pastor terry jones we interviewed this florida pastor when he first threatened to burn the koran on september eleventh of two thousand and ten and although jones never actually carried out the koran burning himself after receiving a phone call from secretary of defense robert gates this march he presided over a burning i follow church member and those actions carry severe backlash with protests in afghanistan that led to the deaths of eight un workers and if that didn't set off alarms for this pastor he's now decided to create conflict again this time he's planning a protest in front of one of the largest mosques in the us our he's christian for is there and has the story. there warren michigan is a summer of just about thirty miles southwest of detroit home of the original order
10:36 pm
motor company in fact i'm walking along forward road right now but here in the midwest of the united states a lot of people say it looks more in times like the middle east because here in dearborn out of the one hundred thousand residents forty thousand or arab american there is the largest muslim population in the country and also the largest mosque you can see it here right behind me. people who live here say it's a peaceful place but many are concerned about what is scheduled to take place right here tomorrow remember florida pastor terry jones the one who threatened to burn the qur'an on september eleventh cancel that with an end of burning one last month well he has scheduled a protest here as he's protesting against radical islam also on good friday for many christians with ten shirts and a mosque is that right between two churches and see one of them right here a lot of people are concerned and are asking many questions today they're wondering
10:37 pm
will there be violence will there be riots and many are you asking even a bigger question how will the actions of one man reflect america across the world in dearborn christine. r.t. . all people like pastor terry jones may be blatant and offensive and their religious intolerance you'll still hear on a regular basis or mainstream politicians that this is a christian nation but the numbers will show you the different religions are on the rise from islam to atheism so it's christian americans celebrate easter this weekend as pastor terry jones will be protesting against islam a large group of atheists are going to be having their own gathering in des moines iowa it's the annual atheist convention and this year they're expecting more tart participants than ever so what's it all about well earlier i caught up with david silverman president of american atheists and i first asked him to tell us more about his convention what the purpose is and what they talk about. well the point
10:38 pm
is through certain bring the thius from des moines out of the closet and into a single location where they can meet and greet each other and learn about each other a lot of people who are theistic a lot of religious leaders thought understand that for atheists a cab or in one group that's pretty rare i mean christians do it every sunday when they go to church and jews do it every saturday when they go to temple it is don't do that so we need this centralization we need this socialisation and we bring in. there are lots and lots of atheists in the morning about three hundred thousand in greater iowa and we bring them in and we give them some of the best speakers in the industry we're actually premiering a hollywood movie starting with tyler tonight. and we're going to motivate them and show them that they are not alone in the state of iowa but there are over three
10:39 pm
hundred thousand atheists doesn't the state alone isn't conventionally bringing about six hundred seven hundred people at sony does that mean that their cells are a bit of taboo surrounding atheism that people don't necessarily want to shell up or be public about it. there's a tremendous amount of taboo on being in atheism and that's one of the in fact that is the number one thing we're trying to fight there's absolutely nothing wrong with being an atheist statistically speaking there are more atheists in this country than there are jews plus looms plus hindus plus buddhists combined and doubled yet nobody thinks they know they know any atheists in fact every single person in this country knows more than the think they know because so much of us so many of us are closet and private and that is the problem now we're having in this country the reason that we see such infringements on separation of church and state is not
10:40 pm
because there are so many more of them going to us it's because so many of us don't say who we are and that's one of the main points that we're trying to drag out and yes this is only bringing in seven hundred to a thousand people but it is our largest american convention ever and why you're an immortal why is it dave though the most more atheists don't say who they are what is it exactly that they fear i mean could it be politics if you like the political spectrum you'll see that most politicians out there will say that this is a christian nation right the majority of our political debates often centered around planned parenthood gay marriage and abortion so is it a fear of these politicians or is that a fear of the churches themselves. well remember the politicians are in the reaction they're in effect because it's the bigotry against atheists and bigotry against the it is comes from religion itself were large and does not want you to like atheists because the more you talk to us the more we make sense so the
10:41 pm
politicians of the. yeah there's a lot of bigotry we are the last group in america against whom it is politically correct to hate we're the last we'll go out you can hate and still be politically correct and and that's what america needs is trying to change and the way we change that is bartering is a closet well i drank to differ with you there in terms of the last group but it's still politically correct to hate because like i just said if you look at the biggest political debate in this country it's still very ok within the republican party to hate on the gay population it's obviously still very ok within the republican party to hate on the muslim population within america you know right now there's a huge debate because pastor terry jones the famous now qur'an burning pastor wants to hold a rally in michigan in front of the largest mosque in this country. right there there's a lot of hate in this country and we have way too much of it a lot of it comes from christianity a lot of it comes from other religions and we're not good but it is and there are
10:42 pm
a lot there are a lot of politicians that are creating against muslims but the majority of people think of people who hate muslims or people who hate jews and people who hate christians are backwards but the people who hate atheists well that's just fine it's not just about the republicans of the not the democrats too and it's not so much hate it's ignoring us pretending that we're not here when we outnumber muslims six to one six to one and yet we have no representation in congress and yet the politicians will not even you know when when president obama said we're a country of all these people and nonbelievers everybody was up in arms simply because he knowledge our existence that's a problem so yes there's hatred against a lot of people but the political correctness or hatred against atheists trumps
10:43 pm
them all even scientologists move close all of them we're we're trying to know now we're trying to stop a let me ask you something as i know that obviously you're trying to make your presence felt and last year of course there is a lot of controversy over a number of bus ads this year you know there are some billboards out there promoting this atheist convention that basically said we know there is no god we know your right would you say is that the same type of indoctrination that you also see from churches though as in the terms of not accepting that people might have a different opinion or that they might have different beliefs and saying that you know this is fact. no there is no indoctrination on a billboard you can't indoctrinate somebody on a billboard you indoctrinate somebody by taking a baby and starting when they're just a couple days old and making them christian and christening them and telling them their curse and beginnings that it's indoctrination circumcising an infant that's indoctrination we're putting up a billboard challenging the people who go to church but our atheists the closet
10:44 pm
the atheist who are so closeted that they go to church we're challenging them because all those numbers that are spewed out and you have three hundred thousand in iowa that's the people who say they're non-theistic we think that number is to war by the people who are non-theistic or call themselves christians because they're afraid of the familial is pressures and with stereotypes that are following it so we're calling those people out we're saying hey kill off your knees stop writing your checks stop were lying to your friends in your family if you don't believe in god stand up and come to the american atheists convention instead i would have i want to thank you very much for joining us that i hope that your connection it's successful and that more people that do come out of hiding or out of the closet if they are too scared to admit it thank you very much for joining us . thank you very much however for having me covering that still ahead on tonight's
10:45 pm
show a poll out recently looks at the attitudes towards torture here in the u.s. and you might get supplies to learn what it means think about it can also newsweek's white house correspondent joins me with more interest in not. let's not forget that we have an apartheid regime right now and. i think. he'd want to well. we have a god that says they're going to keep him safe get ready because you get your freedom.

10:47 pm
a show we've heard with our guests not to say on the topic now we want to hear our audience just go on to you tube the video overs on or in the twitter for fun of the questions that we impose on you tube every monday and on thursday in the show your responses and we played your books. just a few days ago a man a very a california had an awkward and seemingly totally unnecessary run in with local police lawn elder shane was standing in his garage when he noticed some police activity at a house next door to it but police started to arrest three men and a woman on their property you she began filming this incident from his garage with his cellphone camera but he was then to grab the greeted by a police officer who want to do shane's cell phone.
10:48 pm
just to be. honest. with you right. now as far as the outcome of this incident he shane was handcuffed by police for refusing to hand over his cell phone however he wasn't actually arrested just fine and the officer in the video scott gates has been questioned for considering the cell phone video as evidence and on a larger scale the entire incident is now being investigated by the police department's internal affairs unit and frankly there should be an investigation of filming a police officer is not illegal at least not in california now this is typical intimidation tactics to get an innocent bystander to hand over his cell phone by threatening him with arrest and this is just one of the latest cases where police get caught on camera and the photographer ends up in hand cops now filming police is only illegal so far in three states and maryland massachusetts and illinois
10:49 pm
thanks in part assume technicalities with wiretapping loopholes which state that both parties involved in any sort of filming must consent but ironically so on videos from other states where filming cops is technically legal still lance people behind bars here's my question when we have proof of cobs. acting as if they're above the law should the public have the right to document the police's actions when there is nobody to check on how police are going hey ving citizens are taking it upon themselves to make sure the cops act accordingly and not like they're above the law by the way if the joint first century where technology is everywhere so are you cameras are some sort or another if it's not cell phones and it's a surveillance camera let's go back to this incident in california not only is filming illegal in the state but the man was standing on his own property why he got any sort of reprimand at all is befuddling to me so in this case i'd say that an internal investigation is the least that the police department can do. and you
10:50 pm
think that if you asked most people what they think about torture they'd say it's wrong right well a new poll out by the red cross that looks at torture and the attitudes u.s. citizens have about the use of torture on enemy combatants might surprise you according to a survey forty two percent of adults believe that it's acceptable to torture the enemy and that's a lot of people but the more alarming number is that sixty percent of teens from the ages of twelve to seventeen think it's perfectly fine to torture the enemy so how do we explain this especially the age disparity join me to discuss it is daniel stone newsweek's white house correspondent thanks so much for being here tonight you have now it's a little disturbing when you hear results like this especially that sixty percent of teenagers think that it's ok to torture people i grew up always thinking torture is wrong i mean what in the past historically hasn't torture always been looked at as wrong it has been and for several decades many decades i mean since world war
10:51 pm
two after world war two was when we saw the geneva conventions really be a response a global response to say or torture over the past ten years twenty years this new generation that we're talking about they've had new influences on them certainly they've had a new context in the world after nine eleven and these are people who have come of age after the war on terror started globally so let's let's break that down right let's talk about the war on terror and some of the elements that might be attributing to this how much is the bush administration to blame the administration that then told you that there's this enemy out there that's like an enemy we've never fought before and the only way to save american lives is to torture them but certainly a factor remember after nine eleven when the war in iraq started in two thousand and three we heard a lot from our government leaders the bush administration and our covert agencies or in the cia the f.b.i. trust us we're going to get the best intelligence we can and we also heard from them some intelligence we cannot get the conventional way when we have people in
10:52 pm
captivity we cannot. just ask them questions like we used to when someone would rob a bank we need to use new techniques we need to adapt the way we're getting information from these people we need to be agile because they're being agile with how they're attacking us so that was certainly a consideration over the past and now as you mentioned also in your piece here and you used you know a few other analysts to their writings and they said that the media plays a large role in this because the media has become so much more graphic but i'm just so i'm curious as to what you think about that because personally as a journalist i think that showing the images from abu ghraib that that is her job is that journalists are supposed to put those images out there because that's the truth but then is the media done just not doing its job in terms of well saying that this is wrong and actually questioning why this was going on certainly didn't help that a lot of that information was out there of course you're right it needed to be out there that it was being done perhaps it goes badly we're talking about to the government that let those things happen certainly they didn't want those things to
10:53 pm
be seen if they knew things were going to be seeing photos of. details about waterboarding or down at guantanamo bay prison the techniques there they probably would have thought twice about what effect those images were going to have on opinions in america but also the opinions of america's enemies people using footage like that to train and recruit new fighters to attack america now we know that those types of images don't help us they only make it more dangerous for our troops for america's image abroad and yet i think of the obama administration is doing a big disservice especially to this younger generation by not then prosecuting people within the bush administration for the crimes they committed for reiterating to the u.s. that torture is wrong i also want to play a clip of a very popular t.v. show from the last decade and i think i have something to do with it let's take a look. at me. and you tell me where the party is actually where the bloggers are. with the station tell me where people want to. and tell me where he is now.
10:54 pm
do you think twenty four i mean that show was really popular i was just telling you my friends and i we actually watched it religiously we had monday night twenty four parties where everybody would come over and the lights were dan you weren't allowed to talk or you were kicked out of the room because we were also in thralls with this show it honestly it made it look exciting but it's wrong but then what do you do is that art it is a great show it's very dramatic it often is not reality but you're right it hasn't helped with these attitudes when you see jack bauer out there you know pressuring someone torturing them to give up information it gives you this kind of work view of how counterterrorism actually works sometimes it's like that most of the time it's not but seeing him do it seen him be successful at it and seeing him stop a bombing or some sort of other attack certainly makes you think wow maybe it isn't such a big problem and of course there been some reports out there too about how the creators of the show are very close with the bush administration and we are theorizing
10:55 pm
earlier today too you were with my entire crew about how much of an effect that might have had her and just make you richer and look cool i think that's going to save american lives and maybe have people begin to do it why do you think this age disparity exists so much is that because these people i mean teenagers now twelve to seventeen they might not even remember september eleventh or george bush all right well a lot of them don't know a lot of them or the law you know where they were live but a lot of them don't remember what happened before we also can't discount the fact that you know teenagers have a different worldview than adults they don't really understand exactly what war is in the same way that adults think about it terrorism attacks by eating overseas these are all big issues if someone were to ask you if you were fourteen of torture was ok you might say yeah you know maybe in some cases because you clearly haven't thought it through you haven't seen the pictures you haven't heard the historical accounts yet so there's probably room for that kind of growth when you get into your late teens and early twenty's that just because teenagers themselves don't know yet or is that because so many americans these days are moved. and wars if you
10:56 pm
think about it it's a tiny percentage of our population that are actually fighting abroad and they're affected by it works that's one of the views we heard from some of the people we talked to for the article the americans are removed they don't know the costs of war now you know it's an image we see on t.v. very few people know someone being a lot fewer than in previous wars certainly in vietnam where you know if you were a teenager a twenty year old male you had you know as good a chance as anyone of being drafted to the war that kind of infiltrated the national psyche in a way that we're just not seeing well hopefully these attitudes especially amongst the teenagers some people say you know they're all there you get the less chance there is for any change but i definitely hope that these young people will be able to change their views on that because torture is not. thank you so much for joining us here and before we go tonight it's time for our tweet of the day very flynn's has a new book out with a very long title it's called one nation under sex how the private lives of presidents first ladies and their lovers changed the course of american history and
10:57 pm
he claims in this book of the most sexually promiscuous president oh it was a toss up between warren g. harding and john f. kennedy well when we when he heard the news president bill clinton quickly tweeted i beg to differ just ask monica i fear for tonight's show thanks for tuning in and make sure that you come back tomorrow according to defense secretary robert gates president obama has now authorized the use of armed drones in libya so we call it a war yet mr president as well as that will have anthony randolph though on the show for a brand new installment of happy hour and the meantime don't forget to become a fan of me a lot of show on facebook and follow us on twitter and if you missed any of tonight's show or any other nights you can always catch it all the you tube dot com slash show or replace the interviews as well as the show in its entirety coming up next is adam is the name. we'll. bring you the latest in science and technology from around russia.
