host on you tube every monday and on thursday the show going to sponsor. playboy you. are right it's time for tonight's tool time award and tonight it goes to president bush's former chief of staff andrew card you know a lot of been said by the bush crowd over the killing of osama bin laden they've been quoted saying that the obama administration hasn't been giving them enough credit for their part in waters death but the death of osama was also a vindication of policies set up under bush. torture but now card is having a problem with how obama's acting in the aftermath of killing america's most wanted terrorist an interview with a german newspaper card how the following to say is that i think he has pounded his chest a little too much and he went on to say he can take pride in it but he does not
6:33 pm
need to show it so much are you really serious right now it sounds like andrew card is a little jealous if you ask me the bush administration had seven years tied down bin laden kill him but they couldn't get the job done obama did it in two and a half but what's really sad about guards comments is on his record complaining about obama's chest pounding sure obama went to ground zero he met privately with some of the navy seals that took part in the raid i'd say that's pretty normal not exactly what i would call chest county and in fact i'm pretty sure that of bush we're still president we'd be seeing a whole lot more of it let's go back to may of two thousand and three then president bush card's boss was going to address the nation about the war in iraq and in the p.r. stunts of the decade the commander in chief of fluid a fighter jets to meet the u.s.s. abraham lincoln in the pacific ocean there is no need for the jet landing marine one the president's helicopter could have landed on the aircraft carrier justified but hey that would be much of a show now would it so when the president addressed the nation later that day
6:34 pm
a big banner behind him read mission accomplished and during a speech bush made it seem like the war in iraq was over. offers a version of the u.s.s. abraham lincoln. my fellow americans. major combat operations and he recommended in the battle of iraq the united states and around. have prevailed. now as we all know that was not the end of the war in iraq in fact that war is still going on today the u.s. didn't begin pulling forces out of iraq until last fall when they said that major combat operations were finally over but even still we had about fifty thousand troops left there some seven years after bush declared mission accomplished so maybe andrew card can keep his mouth shut when it comes to talking about chest pounding and that's why he's tonight's tool time winner. now we told you many times
6:35 pm
on this program about the increased use of g.p.s. devices to track and surveil american citizens and now there's one environmental activist who stepped forward to wired magazine after she found a g.p.s. which had been placed under her car courtesy of the feds according to wired dot com this method is becoming a very common way for feds to try to anyone they deem suspicious or potential threat to our country depending on if you actually consider environmental activists a threat but whatever i'll move on now now part of the reason this method is becoming so popular is because it's really simple to carry out when it comes surveillance not only does it save law enforcement from using extra manpower to track these suspicious persons but it's also a great money saver for them to. all the feds have to do is install their g.p.s. device under a suspicious persons vehicle usually with industrial strength magnets and a device going to communicate through satellites with the feds headquarters where they can keep tabs on your every move and in fact that wired called on colleen's to
6:36 pm
do some reverse engineering and take apart a tracker that was handed over to wired in hopes of raising awareness check out how these devices work this blue wire inside that was connected to this piece in the. is the connection for the g.p.s. receivers what we've got here is this is the transmission circuitry for telling the f.b.i. where you're at and this is the circuitry for figuring out where you are so take a very expensive assembly that you wouldn't see in a consumer product very interesting and this thing is pretty large and designed clearly to. give the best signal possible as you go under a bridge or something everything and said this is rather tight as you'd expect if you're mounting something that's going to sit underneath a car for months at a time. all right so now that we have a better understanding of the technology let's discuss the legality of g.p.s. tracking although there are several instances where those targeted have taken their
6:37 pm
case to court it's always been decided in district courts leading to different rulings in different states and therefore no national yes or no on the legality of the practice however a lot of people out there are speculating that these g.p.s. devices will become the center of major privacy court battles and will most likely land before the supreme court before you know that in fact the obama administration is hoping to overturn a ruling by lower courts which states that law enforcement officials have to obtain a warrant before putting one of those huge pipe bomb looking trackers on your car so let's just hope that the supreme court isn't going to side with the president on this one up until now a majority of those being tracked with these devices are being targeted for being activists in one specific case simply because the victim was muslim that was the case of yasser fifi who we interviewed here on this show and we should also note that as of now there are no requirements by law enforcement to share their data or their statistics about how often these devices are being used and under what conditions the g.p.s. devices should be placed on cars so in other words there is no regulation
6:38 pm
whatsoever here not to mention many total if the data collected is accurate enough to even be used successfully in court cases so until the feds get their agenda straight these g.p.s. devices should become the go to technology to keep tabs on anyone deemed suspicious so have the i how about doing this the proper legal way get a warrant investigate ethically and leave all these unnecessary spying features out of it. the protesters are wrapping up a forty march in mexico city with one simple message enough bloodshed thousands of people gathered in mexico city's main square over the weekend of a man the drug gang violence that is in gulf the country and since mexican president felipe calderon took office in december of two thousand and six nearly forty thousand people have died in organized crime and the protesters largely remain silent. letting t. shirts and signs send a message no more blood and no more violence the marchers also called on president calderon and the country's other politicians to end their strategy against drug
6:39 pm
gangs calderon launched his war on drug cartels when he took office and a year since the u.s. has given billions to aid this fight even then a little bit of training of mexico's forces but despite the deployment of thousands of security forces to drug hotspots across mexico the level of violence hasn't decreased in fact it's like in most areas to consider this massive drug war is going on right across our border why don't we hear more about it from the obama administration has discussed this with me is mike riggs associate editor at reason magazine mike thanks so much for joining us tonight you. like i said right this is all happening right across our border forty thousand people dying this is a massive violent drug war that the u.s. government is even issued warnings lately to u.s. citizens that we could be trying to get is there a broader problem warnings but have they been given a reaction to the protests of thousands of people so far i think if they can avoid doing so they will i mean they waited a long time to comment on some of the arab spring uprisings but really this is the
6:40 pm
pre-surgery iraq for the obama administration i mean leading up to the surge in iraq i mean it was just a disaster for bush they didn't want to talk about huge numbers it's the same thing for the obama administration right now this is as bad as i mean it may get worse going forward but it is really terrible but what is their reaction also supposed to be like if we look at some of the history perhaps between president obama and calderón we know that president obama had to take back a remark made by secretary of state hillary clinton when he compared mexico itself colombia we know that the u.s. ambassador to mexico had to step down also because in wiki leaks disclosures it turns out that he had criticized calderon fighting so are we too scared to say anything i mean maybe i just think that any indictment from the federal government is prosecuting the struggle or it would also really tightening of our involvement i mean like you said we could be billions. the da is very active there we also have their training certain parts of mexico's police force not to mention that we
6:41 pm
organize all of this from the very beginning i mean prior to calderon coming in vicente fox as president he had a much more soft handed approach and then in the mid two thousand we had the merit approach which was let's step up interdiction not stop. penalties and as a result we got thrown out of libya the da is not even allowed into libya because of the way that american advisers of top government agencies on the ground prosecute this which is with heavy heavy violence but having violence and of course men are member to that right now the u.s. government is in fact asking them to allow more troops to define in iraq and afghanistan because they have the special skills to go in and train mexican police forces we know this happened in the past and they also train mexican military in a lot of those guys are now part of that has you know one of the most violent hard tells why can't we figure out a way to do this without violence without training you know i feel like this happens to us so often just like when we sell weapons to people that end up being our enemies down the line i mean that is ironic actually the weapons being used by
6:42 pm
the cartels are american and the weapons being used by the police the american but we are we are there are some strategies i think that. the drugs are ahead of the office of national drug control policy they take the policy approach to the takes the more enforcement approach and i know the kerlikowske has done some business mexico where he said they're trying to build up these things called drug courts where if you are a violent offender if you are captured by mexican police or mexican military you can run the risk of being executed while you're incarcerated you can run the risk of. any other kinds of form of weird punishment if you go through the drug courts you're much more likely to maybe get a slap on the wrist afterwards he talks neither one of these are real response to the problem which is that mexico is still both manufacturing and acting as a sort of superhighway for drugs in the united states so there are going to have to be bigger bigger policy responses to this. well let's talk about some of the policy responses. in regards to what america could do right you could say that our consumption is exactly what fuels these cartels and when it comes to the drugs and
6:43 pm
after the black market that's created but is it really that simple or fakes if we did let's say legalize marijuana what it all go away. that's hard to say i mean people made that argument in the lead up to for example prop nineteen in california which is a push to legalize marijuana but the you know the federal government responded that while marijuana is the majority of what they move they're also cartels that are manufacturing meth now greater quantities that you see anywhere else in the country but move and also it's important that mexico isn't just making it but also a superhighway for south american cartels to push cocaine into the united states so i don't think legalizing marijuana would would fix everything i mean obviously there's sort of like a logical conclusion of just legalize marijuana is legalize everything and that's also not super politically feasible although if america took the first option that would be a lot easier for central america to follow i mean there are a lot of central american economies in south america that rely on coca production
6:44 pm
which is where we get cocaine from and have only cut back on that regulate that in response to american pressure so obviously if americans if the american government released relieve this pressure a little bit it would make it easier for central american countries to respond something more suited to their cultures and their political environments if you think about a better approach though than doing anything within mexico itself because if you look at it even you know military officials recently said that central america essentially was the gauger most dangerous non-war zone on the planet or the deadliest non war zone in the world and yet we're spending it trillions of dollars on wars that are being in the middle east you know in iraq and afghanistan and places that aren't right across our border like exactly i mean it's a five minute walk from the safest city in the united states torres and one of the most dangerous places in the world i don't actually think we can just walk away now at this point i mean. if you if you believe that the united states should have some presence in iraq and afghanistan due to the damage we inflicted pair with bombs the
6:45 pm
occupation with the strong preexisting governments then you also have to believe that we have some responsibility to the mexican people after destroying their government i mean due to the presence of american money in mexico their political system is on the verge of collapse and there are despite what calderon may say they're on the verge of being a failed state and a lot of rural cities the police forces are losing the military losing sometimes the police and military fighting each other sometimes the border guards are fighting the police so there's definitely some responsibility there i'm not sure it's a responsibility we have to carry out a complete law is definitely going to change your situation and needs more attention i think i'd like thank you so much for being here and i thank you. now still to come tonight we'll have our monday edition of show and tell and stick around for the happy hour on a regular night i'll tell you why hillary clinton was going to shock out of a newspaper and donald trump fights back against allegations that he is a racist argue freezer jenny churchill and my fake specific around for that matter .
6:46 pm
that we in the far right. we haven't got the. safe get ready because their freedom. hi guys welcome to shower and sell on the on a show we've heard our guests not to say on the topic now i want to hear from our audience just go on to you tube this video response our twitter for part of the questions that we've posted on you tube every monday and on thursday the show long responses leave your voice.
6:47 pm
6:48 pm
artist time for show and tell a night's program last time we wanted your opinion on obama's chances in the two thousand and twelve election between a recent we joke the primary debates and obama's at work in taking down osama bin laden is unbeatable next time that americans go to the polls let's go to producer patrice in a sentence or more. since the death of osama bin laden the obama administration has been doing their best to ride that wave of success but cannot wave reach all the way to reelection and are there any republican candidates out there able to create that wave of their own bottom line is he i see a win for two thousand and twelve well he bites and told us on facebook yes he is america is incredibly lucky to have obama as president in modern and surrey commenting i have to admit that obama is on beatable after it had been lighting
6:49 pm
alex agrees but with a simple catch he. in terms of foreign policy obama scored high with the not in step and then he goes on to add if the us economy doesn't say six months before election day then definitely yes as that week showing a republican candidate's work said on you tube the republicans aren't bothering to field anyone to compete with him because they already have their man in the white house but while some of you on the left may agree with that i don't think any republicans would agree and it is still early in the game for a formidable republican candidate to merge my take after the death of bin laden the president's approval ratings were the highest since zero nine but remember george h.w. he was at ninety percent after the gulf war and he still lost and then let's not forget about the latest unemployment numbers at the end of last week they were bad up to nine point zero percent so which way do you think will impact the voters more
6:50 pm
is the way the success of bin laden's death or a nine point zero percent wave of unemployment i hear from now people may be saying been hill and instead as has been taking our jobs. as always we appreciate your responses and now it's time for our next question we just told you that thousands of people in mexico been protesting the drug violence in their country and president calderon's policies and many would argue the u.s. drug policies and our resulting a black market fuel the cartels so we want to know what you think to u.s. drug policies help or hurt the drug war in mexico you can respond to us on facebook twitter and you tube and who knows your response just might make it on air. all right it's time for our monday edition of happy hour and joining me tonight is
6:51 pm
our t.v. producer jenny churchill and my creates associate editor at reason. so on friday and we had a little fun on a happy hour because of course there are going to be some songs that came out already. feeling hot rod released like a club track you know i'm just really dreading that little girls might actually be dancing to you but apparently there's something much bigger going on in the world at least for those people who are gamers someone on counterstrike has created a level with osama bin laden's compound have you taken a look at mr already issues looking at screen shots all day and sort of missing my days in. the internet cafes playing counter-strike but i have a feeling though i think this game is sort of on the wane with american gamers but i know it's still huge and eastern europe and parts of central asia but it's like that you've made it when some kind of street person makes a map go out and almost made it i'm somewhere you know we have a video of it we have a video of it let's let's show that really quick. you
6:52 pm
know where's the video of osama watching himself on to. write in or something else kind of like especially just two teams using a map i don't know i mean it quickly loses its original inspiration those maps but it's still it's like a great we've been trying well i've heard that this map is actually pretty weak and the only thing malaria that it does to bin laden's compound is the location. and i'm actually glad because as you know i personally don't like when we take real life and put it into a game where you're killing people it's just not i know i'm going to get all kinds of mail about this business not something something i can any scenario one thing that i thought was interesting that you mention is that that means you've made it and i think we definitely have seen in the fallout from headline and that is that field team six as absolutely made it and have you guys been looking at some of the
6:53 pm
headlines in the media lately it's like the media forgets about all their objectivity and they start finding over these guys in their headlines that literally say the coolest guy in the world. i mean i saw the bachelor and i know i may be a former navy seal was interviewed he was like this guy's probably really rugged and i was like three years growth on the flat stomach and i was like really so he has great abs that's fantastic like i don't know what else you got i mean like did you kill him on the economy i'm you know did he kill our women and children like there's all these you're right though it's like this great case of hero worship i just it's just i mean i'm not i'm not complaining that. it is a huge case of hero worship i mean you can't deny that this is the best marketing moment for the military and probably definitely in the last ten years since nine eleven so this is their moment to really say hey come out do something for your country and be an awesome hero that is shirtless and half in the water or at least i guess the time for the navy to say in your face to the military of the god
6:54 pm
there's something else that happened over the weekend i think we've all seen the photo the situation room where you know they're all listening to the play by play. for me on tonight as this raid goes down and there's a his city jewish newspaper that's the original photo that we're showing you right now but his situation is paper had to reprint it and they did a little photo shopping he just completely took out hillary clinton who as you know the facial expression everyone is paying attention to because they're not allowed to print women in it because then that might be something sexually suggestive but i think you must pay for us completely changed history by photoshopping a person out not to mention if that photo is hillary and her doubt you brown suit going like this is actually suggested that i say are you really really sorry for these people because that's like the most i actually use and i mean and you know me i'm always want to be like oh no not the sex but i'm sorry that was the hand over the mouth thing you know it's in the mouth i mean i'm sorry i mean. i really don't
6:55 pm
know what sort of offensive to women but it's like much more from sort of historical level like you know that's right is that you know eating is really matters in writers these people i mean i guess i just made enormous newspapers is kind of upsetting well more importantly like lot of kids growing up like you never realize that's a really was just a word to really do like to just pretend like certain people or certain women maybe never even existed i just want them to stop going after hillary and to go back to you know attacking the hipsters for wearing biking shorts in their neighborhood. let's move on ok we're going to have people attack people who want to donald trump who let's just face it i mean nobody even cares about him anymore he's old news now that everyone's forgotten about the birth thing but he's been here only so you know now he's fighting against allegations that he's a racist and his excuse for why he's not racist is because a black person a totally one time on the apprentice let's take a listen. well you know if it comes to racism and racial at least racist person i
6:56 pm
think most people to be would tell you that i am at least gracious that's a great relationships in fact we don't think it was as you know on the apprentice a little while ago couple years ago. anyway so i mean i am the least gracious person but i mean donald trump never ceases to amaze me because he makes everything about himself this guy won the apprentice right because of his hard work because you know he won the challenges but it's about trump because he let him win that race the person on the planet was killing me this reminds me a lot of when tommy hilfiger was like no i'm not recessed black people wear my clothes you know you make a racist comment you have to stand you know you have to explain for that commie can't throw in things like oh three weeks ago i sat next to a black person on the bus on clearly not raise i think you could die of old age degrading trump on every one of these things i mean honestly like look so you know
6:57 pm
let's black man win his show so he's not a racist he convinced obama to release his long form birth certificate so he's really helping the president i mean honestly the man is like a habitual liar i don't think there's anything you can possibly you can't catch or you can actually because he's he's incapable of saying you're right i was wrong reasons higher life is about spin he spins an empire that may or may not exist he runs for closure he spends. he spends i say i mean i don't like a year of balls around you and you have to paste your name on everything you know everything can be spin and what does this say about you either way that they've been giving him the sign you know i mean i got to wrap it up unfortunately we're out of time we didn't get to talk about the fact that a man got like in prison for two counts of leaving new orleans at that for a night so you guys are getting in nature to come back tomorrow james baker's to be back on the program and talk about vice president joe biden trying to find a way to reduce the deficit i mean. time don't forget to become a fan of the large scale on facebook and follow us on twitter and if you missed any
6:58 pm
