10:30 pm
hey guys welcome to sharon's health on the on a shelf we heard our guests have to say on the topic now i want to hear our audience just go on to you tube this video response part of twitter for thought of the questions that we've hoteliers his every monday and on thursday to show your responses we've played your voice.
10:31 pm
you know sometimes you see a story at the scene so. you think you understand it and then you give them something else here's some other part of it and realized everything you thought you know i'm sorry. all right it's time for you said it i read it right take time to respond to my brilliant and engaging viewer comments from facebook twitter and you tube because when you talk i want that now i want to start out first with a comment from a viewer on you tube in response to my interview on tuesday with radio host david pacman we're talking about jon stewart's ratings beating out news and a terrorist killer one nice name by the way this is what he had to say he said i'm sorry did i hear her right did she say fake news or what the hell is fixed news
10:32 pm
that somebody needs to tell this blondie oops i mean redhead the liberal and conservative networks are the same they take ten percent of the truth and then sprinkle ninety percent of their own spice lies you know what this girl is just a part of this problem in this crazy world. oh terrorist killer one i think you're missing the entire point first of all the daily show by jon stewart is fake news by definition it's parody it's satire but it's not news and even he calls about big news so i was just hating the obvious but if you haven't we one of those people who thinks of the new israel is who because if so you and i need to talk but just because i call the daily show fake news as it is doesn't mean that i'm saying that fixed or fox news or m s n b c or c.n.n. or any of the other mainstream channels are any better i spend day in and day out trying to bring to light the lies of the misrepresentations of both the liberal and conservative networks and in fact i think you and i would probably even agree on the amount of truth that can be found on those metering networks and for the record
10:33 pm
. i'm a brunette now onto the next one you tube comments are kept much on age said in response to my interview last night on whether or not the internet is a human right all i know is i'm completely hooked and started out with porn but my horizons have since broadened well captain hope i'm saying that right let me just extend my congratulations to you there's nothing wrong with porn with the internet really really does have so much more to offer so welcome to the club now for the last response a facebook comment on our interview from tuesday on whether the u.s. has anything to learn from the german economy douglas mallett said two thousand and ten german military spending thirty one billion dollars two thousand and ten usa military spending six hundred and eighty billion dollars that was a great point and i'm really happy that you brought it up as something that we didn't spend adequate time covering heavily in yesterday's interview you know if you're a few frequent viewer of this show you know that i think that the amount of money but the united states spends on the military it's not only out of control it's
10:34 pm
wrong our priorities are wrong our politicians have all been bought so pointing out these numerical examples like that to really put it in people's faces so they can see the discrepancy that's important so thank you i'm going to have more responses on your comments later on this week. now if there's one thing that wiki leaks has shown the world for the release of u.s. state department cables well some point out the obvious but dirty truths that the u.s. tries to interfere in the domestic politics of sovereign nations to suit america's agenda or the agenda of american corporations even have fights all detrimental to the economic development of the attempts to democratize those nations the ones which we claim to support through diplomatic announcements of foreign aid packages and all the grandstanding we do about spreading democracy and haiti is a perfect example of this as nearly two thousand new weekly leaks cables released this week for a partnership with the haitian weekly newspaper haiti today are showing us the state department cables released so far details to glaring examples of u.s.
10:35 pm
arrogance and hawkers. the first story is one of the u.s. government working with oil companies companies like exxon mobil and chevron to sabotage a deal for haiti to join petrak arabia venezuela's oil alliance and the u.s. admits itself in these cables of the deal would have saved haiti one hundred million u.s. dollars a year money that would have gone to development of schools health care and infrastructure and the second story details the u.s. government lobbying heavily against raising the factory wages in haiti and just three dollars to five dollars a day working with contractors for u.s. companies like hanes levis and for hello now keep in mind haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere it houses the fourth largest u.s. embassy in the world earlier today i got up and came i as an editor with a weekly newspaper here in the car take my first ask him to give us more details on both of these stories including exactly how big of a role the u.s. government and u.s. corporations played when it came to putting on the pressure. really which way all
10:36 pm
they were of oil companies distributing oil with the them were american and those two were the principal the pool instead of the picture of a really big deal because it was a local fishing company who were most stumped right down the program and it was a french company that didn't give too much trouble but there were quite a bit of. resistance from chevron texaco exxon mobil. both of which give their own lives to find ways to undercut the of the u.s. government you see played the role really. sort of were not so it's a silicate they were the ones who were sort of you know encroacher fishing governance issues set up meetings that sort of thing and so they were really.
10:37 pm
essentially. played the same. sweat shop owners. these are. by and large some of them are he should american. they're one of the principal ones isn't very. similar to. the civilian opposition to the president there is good in two thousand poor which were heads up with you doesn't work because. these people. thought like the male dems the minimum wage increase to five dollars from. about seventy five. and the you discover who was giving them. advice leadership. now how do you say if we really connect the dots who's the real bad guy here right because on one hand you can look at the us government and you can ask how it's possibly acceptable for our ambassadors to go in and pressure
10:38 pm
presidents completely sovereign nations even to threaten them with what they can do but at the same time i think has said they're just playing the role of the mediator the facilitator for these big oil giants in our country and so are they the ones are telling the us gov what to do and they're just passing on the message. you know i think you are still. plays the role of. sort of yet for a long time people who are working for these corporations in t.v. or. maybe not exactly bursting or you go about. your private government official and so the u.s. government plays that role there of the u.s. embassy but it's not. the place you go to figure out how to interface with the government where the soft spots where the chinks new armor whether it is the officials who are the most amenable were the most lenient it's ever so. you can see
10:39 pm
this in the cables around. the table. you really see the detail that they go into. basically psychoanalyze not just their opponents but the governments that they're dealing with been seeing really. who's who and where are their funds now obviously you can point out a lot of hypocrisy in these actions when it comes to what the u.s. says it does in terms of the aid packages that we get around the world in terms of what our diplomats say when they say that we support democracy around the world but if they know the corporations have so much power that these people because pull out of haiti is three dollars a day better for haitians than nothing on the alternative. well you know sure that's that's always their argument which is that listen it's better than nothing if we go away we're going to do the. general we go. haiti is the best bargain you can have this year it was the cheapest before and it
10:40 pm
was cheaper even after the minimum wage increase but then they always cry wolf that there will be bankrupted close so there's this constant it's the sort of world maybe a game of chicken with happens but at the end of the day. you know these corporations are just making out like bandits because they're paying people pennies to make clothing and trunks and other. assembled goods which shows so for hundreds of dollars here in the united states and europe so. this is an extremely lucrative. arrangement with patiently i want to come to the story of the oil deal with the u.s. try to sabotage of course there are a lot of geopolitics that come into play you have in a statement from the u.s.
10:41 pm
official saying that whatever it would. just can't let you work with chavez we can't let you work with venezuela that would love very bad for us but if you think about haiti right it's the poorest country in the western hemisphere there are no minerals no resources there the us necessarily need so what's the point of trying to exert so much control of worrying about the geopolitics a is it all just the success came. growth so much of it is a question about example. but not really a good example. because it's. true. so he has ten million. dollars there for us in europe. so it's a very important. great in the middle. with the u.s. in civics and so on guard. and think he.
10:42 pm
built a bond with this across the middle because they were being very you know you can recover with what recursion because this is really the true ensure the story. now of him last i just want to ask you this isn't the first time that he's seen waking weeks' work with smaller news organizations internationally smaller newspapers but then of course i guess the result of that is it doesn't get the national attention within america that a lot of this information deserves so why do you think the wiki leaks myside to go with you and is that the reason you decided to partner with the nation on this project to get more exposure well absolutely you know the nation you so it's a very very evil. book. and to some of. the coverage that we were giving the. analysis we were making of the. cables i think we could weeks down going to the big box we're.
10:43 pm
already in the. there is a mixed blessing we only released the fraction of the much we love them so that really the people who are most concerned with these people so even with them for themselves so i think their new approach to taking the ok piece and giving them to the person in the countries affected by them is really shouldn't go in the first place. finishes in fact always very further a lot of what we're there we. really appreciate our tale i want to thank you very much for joining us tonight to give us more details on this story as well. thank you very much. thought of kellogg's and i felt the power of you to cause a major airline to change their baggage fee policy for the rest of the head inside told time and then figure out there are maybe caviar and i'll show you what happens when t.v. networks graced me first to cover
10:44 pm
a story and lost that thread to get back into my. internal mirror military mechanisms to do the work to bring justice and accountability. i have every right to know what my government you want to know why i pay taxes. what i would characterize obama as a charismatic sort. of american exceptionalism. you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so you think you understand it and then something else here's some other part of it and realized everything is are you going to charge is a big. let's
10:45 pm
not forget that we are part of. the the well. we're never going to as they're going to say get ready for freedom.
10:46 pm
ok it's time for tonight's tool time award and tonight it goes to delta airlines so the atlanta based airline is working overtime thanks for a p.r. nightmare involving thirty four u.s. soldiers two of those soldiers staff sergeants fred hilliker and it robert o'hara decided to document their outrage against delta with a camera and they posted the entire video on you tube so i'm going to listen both of these men here to help me explain this story it all started when thirty four soldiers tried to check in for a flight from baltimore going to atlanta i just returned from miami to see yesterday we. were on our way to a one hundred thirty eight hour layover and we had
10:47 pm
a little issue with the bags this morning. so staff sergeant. will occur says that they had a few issues checking the backs you know i can relate those guy things are completely out of control but now it's time for staff sergeant o'hara to tell us exactly what it is that happens next here because the. stars were pleased to. see what he thought he. did for the next tilt your life stories that people seem to be. so wow is delta really going to charge a thirty four u.s. soldiers returning from afghanistan an extra bag fee i'm phrase tell me if this didn't actually happen here next to the caucus every. respect to take how much you paid to write a song i'm not sure i did ok not a profit or two goes to pay for college students at least thirty four of us so.
10:48 pm
that's right delta made twenty eight hundred dollars an extra bag fees from thirty four soldiers trying to return home now delta says their policy is to allow three free checked bags for active duty military members the flying coach and soldiers say the military orders allow them to check for facts so why did the soldiers really need to check so many bags in the first place thank you it was a weapon states they claim for two or three. kilometers to the city used to myself it's just. oh that's right the soldiers are carrying the weapons that they need to protect themselves when they're in a war zone that's totally worth charging them two hundred bucks for isn't it now i'm going to longworth of the play the soldiers and how they really felt after being charged this extra fee but business model delta i think you were actually happy back to america god bless america.
10:49 pm
not happy. not if you don't. richard thank you. and that's how two u.s. soldiers can bring a major airline to their knees the delta has already publicly abolished apologize to the soldiers they say they're reaching out to all thirty four members of the military to address their concerns and the airline also sets but it's changing their policy and from now on soldiers can check or backs for free but found it took two u.s. soldiers to point out delta stupid policy but i do love the fact that the men actually made their video off lying on the delta jet gotta love the technology and that's why delta airlines is so nice tools i wonder and apparently delta was none too pleased about this video and all of the media attention that they got from the story today because this afternoon this video we just played here for you disappeared on you tube without any explanation.
10:50 pm
it's the middle of the week it prompted a which means we need another round of happy hour and joining me tonight for happy hour is our key correspondent lauren lyster and my craig's an associate editor at reason that is ina and reason dot com thanks for joining me today and chase you there. was so yesterday this actually was happening i think i was doing the show or maybe right after i got off the air because i suddenly remember looking over and every single t.v. screen we work in a news channel right so we have a million t.v. screens all over the place here on every channel so we can monitor what everyone else is doing and everyone is just fixated on this story about a mass grave and here you can look at some of the coverage. believe me everyone begin with breaking news this hour in southeast texas investigators we are told are on the scene of what appears to be a mass grave containing according to a sheriff's department official twenty five to thirty bodies including we are told tonight the bodies of children but look. as many as thirty bodies are buried
10:51 pm
what's described as a home of course that. the residents here are said to be cooperating but there. are two that sounds like a god awful orrible a story of mass graves up to thirty people all these maybe even childred and i don't know for some reason i really dismembered body parts or something in my head maybe that's what i already started building it up and then suddenly it kind of just disappeared you know just talking about it turns out it was a psychic of the police department was working with and the whole thing was a hoax i think wrong it was wrong i mean they were right to investigate it with so i guess problematic about the way that many stations cover news these days is that everybody goes with a because they want to go with it first even though it's not confirmed the thing that's interesting about this too is that in cnn's coverage they at least confirmed independently to a source to that this had been declined as have been discovered so i don't know
10:52 pm
who's going to like it were as the other guys are just like there's someone out there is covering the story just run with it yes and we actually did run with it yesterday they were still just replaying the course about. their son wiener gate they just can't get enough of mass graves we don't have a crowd as wieners all the way he was speaking of we're gay is pretty interesting that it took the network so long to run with this story which we now know was completely true he wasn't there was no prank the launch of run with your you know we're not even and studying with you know you know you know there are totally but. yes we did three days after we were over this here and there was you know it's hard to know the extent i mean in terms of are you going to be there for covering it here on day one so believe me they have been on top of this story but you know it is interesting because these days nobody wants to be left behind especially when news you know moves so quickly on the internet and people are tweeting about things and so out of radically everyone's covering the story and then it all turns out to
10:53 pm
just you know a sham no mass grave not a bomber and no one should pay that's a. political move on. to the next story here's a couple that was arrested in polk county and this is in florida and it's because they were selling their homemade porn on the internet to the funny thing is that the guy spent all this time investigating it and even paid in one thousand nine hundred five membership fee to go to the woman's website and get all are porn but i don't know why he had to sell your own porn in your neighborhood if you feel like it or online well obscenity laws are like a very like regional and local thing and that's sort of what's great about them and horrible at the same time i mean the fact that there's a local test requirement the supreme court has said that is what keeps this nationally from having to worry about any sort of like national pornography or obscenity law still be what you do. yeah you'll know it when you see it exactly yeah and it's and if they happen really ugly and old and live in polk county or imperial polk county as we call it down in florida well kid doesn't get any kind of
10:54 pm
there's not that much of a look yeah i don't know i don't know either what the punishment for that detective to have to look at this case or what but i think it doesn't really seem like it's very worth it to violate these laws in this region because i don't want to make it seven hundred dollars a month off of this guy that's. breaking laws and this is you know i feel that part dorry's that so the woman the wife is allowed to post bail later that day but her husband off to to remain in the custody of prison officials to do a bit of hands on research for a new feature length dungeon that the cars are going to be not ok how do they not move in order to be honest we didn't learn their lesson and they're like don't you know obama should pardon these people they're creating jobs this man is so committed to reviving the economy with his own contribution that he decides in prison do more you know about me be afraid of anything else the people i mean take their own goddamn home report exactly. ok there bail was more than i think they will ever make from their point. so they better be investigating the revenue
10:55 pm
streams with the jail done since there's so much more that you can get online these days that i just don't understand what is there. my son when i hear some. truly alone ever run across our friend crop or whatever it is. let's go under a lot of story here we've been covering a lot on the show in the last couple days because for some reason we're just really into hacker stories. security and the hats they've made on so many an f.b.i. affiliates and we try to get them on the show they tell me that i have to wear a hat and mud wrestling thing whatever that's another time this part is funny there is a website or there is a company out there that actually guert them to hack their website and pay them a ten thousand dollars reward and they can hack the website and there you can see what they spread there's a done that was easy keep your money we do it for the little girls that was the twenty first century hacking challenge and this is the best part two so then the guy actually responded after they got hacked on twitter and he said we do have
10:56 pm
a comment i think we have it please have our web site thinking on it you know i know you guys are good right where you issue a challenge and instantly your hand ok and now he needs them to fix what they did i'm never buying his services either and we have. three companies that we're not we're going to not going to go the psychic and i'm going to sort of people's born i'm going to use the guy's security website or you can't you let me because the more threats there are of hackers the more business they get from who they sell to . buy into his website and now he wants them to succeed so you know yourself in a vulnerable area and if you ask somebody to hack your website then you have to ask them to and hack it but i mean it's always just been incredible for me to look at you know especially some of these f.b.i. affiliates to end up doing the security research and the fake hack so that the government knows how secure their websites are they're the ones that easily get hacked by these random groups of people that we don't even kids with a children they just might i mean i don't want to say anything negative i don't
10:57 pm
want my daughter sarah and i didn't think anything negative i think it's really incredible you have no idea kids these days you know would be like two years old there and. or use the cell phone and insert the d.v.d. home or go back to computer security for it actually scares me to death of what they're going to be able to do i think you should must mud wrestle so we can see the real face behind this little girl so i think it oh well worth a what we were told we were they want to take one for america take what you're lagging cybersecurity. and if you want to wrestle with a group let me get it right over on the news. we got a big surge joining me tonight that's a good night's show thanks for tuning in to make sure that you come back tomorrow lieutenant colonel anthony shaffer we're back on the program to talk about why waging war over a cyber attack speaking of is a really really bad idea in the meantime don't forget to become a fan of the lower show on facebook and on twitter and if you missed any of tonight's or any other night you can always catch all the you tube dot com slash
