1:00 pm
it's exactly three months since an earthquake triggered the fukushima nuclear disaster and people in japan are out in the streets demanding something be done about the continuing crisis. in switzerland activists are venting their anger at a media blackout surrounding one of the world's most secretive and influential gatherings trying to shine a light on what the builder bug group is up to. a level playing field the southern russian city of sochi undertakes major efforts to ease access for people with disabilities ahead of the twenty four team paralympics.
1:01 pm
international news and come and live from our studios here in central moscow this is going to have you with us this hour. in japan is struggling to recover from its toughest crisis since the second world war when a huge earthquake caused the most of the tsunami which left thousands that are missing a natural disaster triggered a major radiation leak at the fukushima nuclear facility and it's still on the verge of a full scale nuclear catastrophe our correspondent sean thomas is in tokyo where anger over the situation is now spilling onto the streets. that is three months after they got a standing quake and tsunami which rocked japan and devastated the fukushima region of course creating the nuclear disaster at the tepco daiichi power plant where we now know that three reactors have melted down and possibly melted throughout today is a very interesting day at the temple headquarters in central tokyo thousands of people have gathered some in support of your queer power believe it or not and thousands
1:02 pm
more who are walking the streets in organized protests carrying signs and banners and shouting out slogans through loudspeakers against nuclear power saying that there needs to be alternative sources of energy of all this of course and for the type of headquarters the company responsible for the guy power plant one of the reasons why this is important is within the past week new information has come out saying that tepco at the initial phases of the disaster lied about the amount of radiation that was coming in and tried to downplay the situation saying that the radiation levels were not as bad that there could possibly be a meltdown then of course this past week it was revealed that they cut those numbers in half in fact. the government is not providing proper information and people young and old want to know the truth. was on the situation with the radioactive emissions has not changed in the last three months and nothing has changed since the very beginning the communities devastated the people have no
1:03 pm
homes there's no place to work everything is destroyed also coming to life is that the nuclear fuel not only melted down but possibly melted through the inner containment vessels and into the outer stainless steel linings which is a much much more serious problem one thing that people are worried about is the amount of radioactive water that is in the area this is the beginning of the rainy season and people are worried that with more rain that radioactive water will then spill out and flooding the area causing more contamination and also people are very angry about the children their schools which are contaminated is. well right now kids are exposed to higher levels of radiation that they ever have been in the past and they have to stay inside in sealed buildings the ability to play outside it's also very hard but impossible. to surprise one person from the prime minister sharon has actually already said he will not subject his grandchildren to see a sheet as a cocktail to say with even assessment or entrepreneur to exert themselves to be
1:04 pm
higher levels of radiation of course our goal is an r.t. cruise to go into the fukushima zone and we're going to go in with some cleanup crews in see how that process is going right now but from tokyo sean thomas artsy. residents of the fishing the district and those who live nearby have not only faced radiation exposure but also social exclusion that's according to professor robert jacobs he's probably hiroshima peace institute. there are still people living in areas where there's high radiation and there's children going to school in areas where there's high radiation and so there's been a reluctance to move as quickly as possible and a lot of people from the machine area who even people who were born there but who live in tokyo are experiencing discrimination in japan by people who consider them possibly contaminated even though radiation is not transferable to other people but there are a lot of problems ahead and if i can get one quick example in august there's
1:05 pm
a very important holiday in japan call on in which everyone returns to their hometown because their spirits of ancestors come to their burial places where their ashes are interned and the family welcomes them these people need solutions and will not be able to observe this religious holiday and welcome there the spirits of their ancestors who were turned over on its own people find that they're unable to carry out their familial obligations for decades because they can't return to these areas people tend to blame themselves even if there are structural reasons so there needs to be some work done to help people through not just the radiation exposure but the social breakdowns that follow radiation exposure is in communities. still to come for you this here on our t.v. talk show host the resident goes fishing for opinion on the recent hacking attacks on john companies like sony and lost a card. that was big into our heroes because they can sort. everything they are they are a product from all the security systems this and something positive takes on the

hackers and their motives in a few minutes also coming up on the answer. there are a lot of different. mess around this area in the past small calls try to avoid going to the city of dallas as they say anyone who dares to get in will never get. close up to him guys with death to bring you this report from the mystical heart of the country's deep south. those stories the country at this hour r.t. in the meantime a number of us congressman have received a letter apparently written by colonel gadhafi saying he is ready to negotiate a cease fire and we're asking for humanitarian aid the authenticity of the letter has not been confirmed that it has continued to step up its airstrikes on the capital tripoli that's despite a fresh also by going to get his daughter against the french president she is suing nicolas sarkozy and nato for killing four members of a family during

a strike in april meanwhile the turkish prime minister has offered colonel gadhafi exit guarantees to wherever he chooses professor mark almond the box of university says the libyan leader's position is not as weak as the west is making. is obviously under pressure he is also being formed by nature but he also seemed to interview a strong resolution was asked critical or watch. since the bombing started. division in washington in the west in general inside major it's very difficult for the u.s. and its major allies britain and france to accept any kind of cease fire. because they have repeatedly said that any and all are leaving office leaving power. on the other hand we have signs that it's the right back channels between gadhafi and the rebels some of the rebel leaders who were in. discussions with the nato leaders. they also talked with go the silence or. have

a problem but who is in charge of the promise of the politics on the ground in. libya not necessarily. looters would like. it's a professor mark on their will on our website r.t. dot com we want to know how you think libya's deadlock can be resolved so far nearly two thirds think that nato should be the rule and the thing that could to happen has one fifteen percent say that things should continue as they are until the conflict eventually ends well eleven percent think only ground forces will resolve the situation in the settlement we can see those green that feel that the u.n. should send in peacekeepers and split libya in two that's your opinion r.t. got caught not on terms but we think. it's a gathering of political and financial elite and it's very of secrecies in force by an army of security guards it's all bankrolled by swiss taxpayers even as europe tightens its belt and forces through tough austerity cuts it will go to conferences
1:09 pm
attended by people ranging from royalty to top news outlets c.e.o.'s and it's also a traditional media blackout artes nor emmett's reports from. as this build a big meeting has progressed here and samurais in switzerland more and more processes have turned out to say they don't want it to happen here they're camping out outside the hotel showing up in numbers really from all over the world there are swiss people obviously but i will say met germans austrians swedes and even americans who come all the way here either to report on what's going on all just to protest here with their feet on the ground in person some of the people behind me say that they have been subjected to low grade harassment by the swiss police threats of deportation things of that nature they have varying degrees of suspicion about the building group some say that they are scheming behind closed doors to introduce a new world order but some just want to point out that in many countries it's
1:10 pm
illegal for elected officials to meet in secret in these kinds of surroundings let's hear what some of the protesters told me the swedish attendees the politicians are according to swedish law committing diplomatic treason and if if they were sentenced if they were judged and sentenced they would be in prison for ten years to life according to the people think it's a conspiracy theory but in fact this is just the ignorance of the people we've known for a long time pretty much what's been going on there. and it's definitely not i'm good for humanity not good for the planet and you know i don't want my kid growing up to be a slave in the new world order to be honest this is not the only protest day about mr way down in the town the young swiss socialists have turned out again to process in fact they dismiss the people behind me they say a lot of the these people essentially a crackpot conspiracy theorist but what they're here to say is this meeting goes
1:11 pm
against everything that they perceive to be switzerland that neutrality the transparency that they want to promote here. in switzerland just isn't evident in the dealings of the build group the economic crisis. policy of. more democracy. this year's meeting in switzerland does look like a different affair from last year since it just in spain there are more processes head is also a more media attention a lot of alternative media journalists have turned up to try to report on what's going on although r.t. is the only international news station that's represented here so we are seeing more protests we are seeing better organized protests than we saw last year better organized media facilities so it does look like if there is momentum can be carried on to build a comfortable meeting in secret like this for very much longer. well
1:12 pm
i've been speaking to investigative journalist tony. he believes the media's blackout of the building conference is unacceptable given the far reaching decisions made by those attending. it is pretty obvious to me that this is a complete most convenient way to distract attention to say the sort of mix up this very important meeting with other silly kind of spurious conspiracy theories i can tell you my blood is boiling at the lack of coverage in the western world if you had all of the leaders of the main banks in the west all of these royalty all the chief executives as well as people like george osborne with his treasury team there i mean we're talking about an incredibly important meeting even if one of these groups were to meet up together it would be on a headlines but since they're all in the same place you would expect more coverage i mean even from the god's going to get down there. but isn't that the choice of the group they want a media blackout so they can discuss openly and honestly amongst themselves without
1:13 pm
being reported erroneously or whatever they don't want the media to be there is that right. well they don't want the media that's because i think what they're what they're up to in there is absolutely is no good we have to look at what nato is up to this is very important to understand a very close links between a typo and a builder burks it was set up round about the same time as nato just after the second world war by the cia and the council on foreign relations who'd been talking about this during and after world war two and the idea that this organization is not important not important enough for us to know about in this country is just ridiculous around the western world because what's happening here is we are spending our years voting in local and general elections and this arrogant bunch are choosing our party leaders so it almost doesn't matter which way we vote we still find this secret artificial consensus which is cooked up at these build a bird meetings spreads out around the world and it's not just me saying that this is will happen who actually went to one of these meetings when he would still be

editor of the observer newspaper here in britain. well for more on any of the stories we're covering here you can always log on to our website of course more features and news out r.t. dot com explored why ultra-orthodox jews in the u.s. believe an end to the state of israel is the only solution to the conflict in the middle east. and pedal power for what dmitri medvedev and putin up on their bikes to discuss social and economic issues those stories online ability dot com. indomitable spirit a man with physical disabilities makes the eleven thousand kilometer trip from russia's four east to moscow all in an electric mobility scooter and it's under caution began his epic journey from the pacific city of god of a star in the middle of april since then he's brave several injuries in a fever but remained on course towards moscow despite hardships of exulted says he's happy to have made new friends while raising awareness of disability issues as also the goal set by the paralympic games to be held in twenty four teams in sochi
1:15 pm
. blotch he reports the city has begun preparing a welcoming for disabled athletes from around the world. you know is it easy for a man in a wheelchair to travel to sochi a tough question for the mayor and his aides as the city's preparing to host the two thousand and fourteen winter paralympics the as russia's paralympic champion mikkel to the. newly built airport. i actually like that this place is one of the few airports in russia that have lived a device that helps the civil passengers to board the plane throughout the city however there are issues that require attention and i'm sure they'll be dealt with . all newly built ice rink steady and ski pests and sochi are equipped in accordance with strict paralympic standards but in the city itself with its aging infrastructure still a lot has to be done to comply sochi sidewalks shops and restaurants are also undergoing massive construction to comply with strict standards so that nowhere is

off limits and even though competition such as ice lead hard and skiing will be held far from the city center thanks to the games sochi will be more accessible for people with disabilities living a lasting legacy for locals visitors alike russia's paralympic squad topped the overall standings at the vancouver two thousand and ten winter games with thirty eight medals twelve gold silver and sixteen bronze with cope with russia's paralympic champion. as he was preparing for the three week training in sochi. were proud that russia will be hosting the paralympics it's good when the games are being held at home. and it's a great responsibility we just can't lose. the first paralympic test of skiing and biathlon will be held as early as next year drawing unprecedented international attention to the small russian town so for most people here it's a chance to show their hospitality to the special guests creating

a confortable barrier free environment the first of its kind in russia and also a great opportunity to see the russian olympic team in action. r t sochi. spanish police have arrested three men believed to be involved in carrying out cyber attacks on governments and companies including sony and mastercard the suspects have been identified as members of the worldwide hacking group anonymous well this week online talk show host the resident takes to the streets of new york to gauge people's attitude to. intend out even the f.b.i. it seems like no one is safe from hackers these days i these heroes are delivered this week let's talk about that technically speaking they are heroes because they can solve. everything they are they are. all of the security systems so what if a robber a bank robber is technically. proficient enough to get into
1:18 pm
a bank does that make him a hero to. the police department goes into certain things and the government goes into certain things probably i would put that on the same level as i would someone who goes in and hacks into a site are not supposed to be on their hot has which are five thing for some kind of ideological points and because we're just doing illegal activities. i think you just. really open the lens to things that should be oh i don't have that much of a problem is that it's so subjective though why are we entrusting thieves essentially with making that kind of a judgment call. these that's a strong word well they're going to get people's in information for the good or bad well if you're if you're going in and you're taking a lot of credit card numbers and credit card accounts and that type of thing and you're using that information again hurt private citizens and i don't think that's
1:19 pm
a good thing how do you ever had your personal information had i have actually yeah . and i felt. so violated and trying to control the information that stuff like that it's just. it's just. oh i think it's going to get worse much worse because i have five daughters ranging from twenty three down to twelve years old and they're you know they don't think anything's ever going to happen to them and they're out there with all of it even though with the warnings from parents they're the next generation so if you had you caught them putting stuff out there and you're like don't put that out there yeah this is cell phone numbers yeah but do you think hackers are villains or heroes the bottom line is if you have information in a database someplace consider yourself a potential target. when no we look at some of the world news in brief very nearly twenty. the space

unique maybe because of its rotation and nobody knows after spending several hours hand it really feels like this mountainous area marries the past with the present and if you listen hard enough you can almost handle fall fathers of a satria singing their songs by the fire to talk more on because the oracle importance of this area for us as he is now it's always bites words that we have be out of the going to find busy here in the works as yet thank you very much. for joining us so why do you think the locals still consider this place as a special area well garcia is a village located high up in the monsoon the border just value. is said of. its norm for its crop of this or silver that is recalled and what it is is a set of cribs where people used to go in the case through were contaminated
