at the media blackout surrounding one of the world's most secretive and influential gatherings trying to. build up a group is. a level playing field the southern russian city of sochi undertakes major efforts to ease access for people with disabilities ahead of the twenty four hour and makes. international news and comment live from last year's here in central moscow this is . three months japan is struggling to recover from its toughest crisis since the second world war when a huge earthquake caused the tsunami which left thousands dead and missing the natural disaster triggered a major radiation leak at the fukushima nuclear facility and it's still on the verge of a full scale nuclear catastrophe. in tokyo where anger over the situation is
4:03 pm
spilling into the streets. that is so three months after the devastating earthquake and tsunami which rocks japan and devastated the fukushima region of course creating the nuclear disaster at the tepco daiichi power plant where we now know that three reactors have melted down and possibly melted throughout today is a very interesting day at the tepco headquarters in central tokyo thousands of people have gathered so much in support of your clear power believe it or not and thousands more who are walking the streets in organized protests carrying signs and banners and shouting out slogans through loudspeakers against nuclear power saying that there needs to be alternative sources of energy of all this of course in front of the tepco headquarters the company responsible for the daiichi power plant one of the reasons why this is important is that within the past week new information has come out saying that tepco at the initial phases of the disaster lied about the amount of radiation that was coming in and tried to downplay the situation saying
4:04 pm
that the radiation levels were not as bad that there could possibly be a meltdown then of course this past week it was revealed that they cut those numbers off in a half in fact. the government is not providing proper information and people young and old want to know the truth of the course of the situation with the radioactive emissions has not changed in the last three months nothing has changed since the very beginning the communities devastated the people have no homes there's no place to walk everything is destroyed the school also coming to life is that the nuclear fuel not only melted down but possibly melted through the inner containment vessels and into the outer stainless steel linings which is a much much more serious problem one thing that people are worried about is the amount of radioactive water that is in the area this is the beginning of the rainy season and people are worried that with the more rain that radioactive water will then still out in the flood in the area causing more contamination also people are
4:05 pm
very angry about the children their schools which are contaminated is. right now kids are exposed to higher levels of radiation than they ever have been in the past and they have to stay inside in sealed buildings without the ability to play outside it's also very hot and impossible are usually very angry about their surprise one person from the prime minister sharon has actually said he will not subject his grandchild of s.c.h. it is a chronic illness which is a with even a surgeon which around children to jack themselves to these higher levels of radiation of course our goal as an archie crew is to go into the fukushima zone and we're going to go in with some clean up crews and see how that process is going right now but from tokyo sean thomas artsy. and residents of the fukushima district and those who live nearby have not only faced radiation exposure but also social exclusion and that's according to professor robert jacobs from the hiroshima peace institute. there are still people living in areas where there's high
4:06 pm
radiation and there's children going to school in areas where there's high radiation and so there's been a reluctance to move as quickly as possible and a lot of people from the fukushima area who even people who were born there but who live in tokyo are experiencing discrimination in japan by people who consider them toss of the contaminated even the radiation is not transferable to other people but there are a lot of problems ahead if i can give you one quick example in august there's a very important holiday in japan called in which everyone returns to their hometown because the spirits of ancestors come to their burial places where their ashes are in turn and the family welcomes them these people the exclusion zone will not be able to observe this religious holiday and welcome there the spirits of their ancestors who return obongo us when people find that their own able to carry out their familial obligations for decades because they can't return to these areas people tend to blame themselves even if there are structural reasons so there needs
4:07 pm
to be some work done to help people through not just the radiation exposure but the social breakdowns that follow radiation exposures in communities. well coming up for you are not the online talk show host the resident fishing for opinion on the recent cyber attacks on john companies such as sony and moss to come. because baking they are heroes because they can sold. everything they are they are from across all of the security systems this in some less positive takes on the hackers and then motives in a few minutes also coming up. there are a lot of different legends and myths around this area in the past the locals try to avoid going to the sets down as they say anyone who dares to get in will never get out alive. find out how russia close up to you guys to with death to bring you this report from the list of the countries. sell. stories to come but

first a number of u.s. congressmen have received a letter apparently written by colonel gadhafi saying he's ready to negotiate a cease fire and asking for humanitarian aid the authenticity of the letter has not been confirmed nato is continuing to step up its airstrikes on the capital tripoli despite a fresh lawsuit by colonel gadhafi daughter against the french president she is suing nicolas sarkozy and nato for killing four members of her family during an airstrike on a. turkish prime minister's office colonel gadhafi guarantees to wherever he chooses radio host and author steven lemon says the colonel more than anyone else wants an end to the conflict. or war or conflict in the first place. he responded to it when washington who need. to hear it. because of course he wants it is he wants a ceasefire he doesn't want any of this to go or on the west. he wants
4:09 pm
it there's losers he wants him into a conflict washington and nato castle we do not want to live here in the banner of service i would ground including former u.s. congresswoman green car a presidential candidate he said. during. a rebel force and maybe what i mean these killings mass casualties mass destruction you were asleep just some mysterious i was here. you were ordering propaganda mention loose they're hiding the truth. well on our website r.t. dot com we want to know how you think libya's deadlock can be resolved and looking on the screen now also far nearly two thirds think that nato should withdraw admitting that gadhafi has won fifteen percent say things should continue as they are until the conflict eventually and eleven percent think only ground forces will
4:10 pm
resolve the situation and i can see even the same amount feel the un should send in peacekeepers and split libya in to your point of view and r.t. dot com. it's a gathering of political and financial elite in switzerland and it's a veil of secrecy isn't forced by an army of security guards it's all bankrolled by swiss taxpayers even as europe tightens its belts and forces through tough austerity cuts the bill about conferences attended by people ranging from royalty to top news outlets c.e.o.'s and is also a new traditional or should say under a now traditional media blackout and it has more on this. as this building meeting has progressed here in summer it's in switzerland more and more protesters have turned out to say they don't want it to happen here they're camping out outside the hotel showing up in numbers really from all over the world there are swiss people obviously but i've also met germans austrians swedes and even americans who have
4:11 pm
come all the way here either to report on what's going on all just to protest here with their feet on the ground in person some of the people behind me say that they have been subject to great harassment by the swiss police threats of deportation things of that nature they have varying degrees of suspicion about the builder burge group some say that they are scheming behind closed doors to introduce a new world order but some just want to point out that in many countries it's illegal for elected officials to meet in secret in these kinds of surroundings let's hear what some of the protesters told me the swedish and these the politicians are according to swedish law committing diplomatic treason and if if they were sentenced if they were judged and sentenced they would be imprisoned for ten years to life according to sweat the small people think it's a conspiracy theory but in fact this is just the ignorance of the people we've known for
4:12 pm
a long time pretty much what's been going on there. and it's definitely not good for humanity not good for the planet. and you know i don't want my kid growing up to be a slave in the new world order to be honest this is not the only protest day about kilometer away down in the town of summer it the young swiss socialists have turned out again to process in fact they dismiss the people behind me they say a lot of the these people are essentially a crackpot conspiracy theorists but what they're here to say is this meeting goes against everything that they perceive to be switzerland that neutrality the transparency that they want to promote hair. in switzerland just isn't evident in the dealings of the building group the economic crisis is a resort to the policy of conference leaders we're seeing more democracy. this is meeting in switzerland does look like
4:13 pm
a different affair from last year since it just in spain there are more protesters here there's also more media attention a lot of alternative media journalists have turned up to try to report on what's going on although r.t. is the only international news station that's represented here so we are seeing more protests we are seeing a better organized protest than we saw last year better organized media facilities so it does look like if this momentum can be carried on the building be comfortable meeting in secret like this for a very much longer. there when i spoke to investigative journalist tony guzzling earlier and he believes the media's blackout of the build of the conference is unacceptable given the far reaching decisions made by those attending. it is pretty obvious to me that this is a complete most convenient way to distract attention to say the sort of mix up this very important meeting with other silly kind of spirits conspiracy theories i can tell you my blood is boiling at the lack of coverage in the western world if you
4:14 pm
had all of the leaders of the main banks in the west all of these royalty all the chief executives as well as people like george osborne with his treasury team there i mean we're talking about an incredibly important meeting even if one of these groups were to meet up together it would be on our headlines but since they're all in the same place you would expect more coverage i mean even in the gaza going to get down there for a degree there are few but isn't that the choice of the group they want to media blackout so they can discuss openly and honestly amongst themselves without being reported erroneously or whatever they don't want the media to be there is that right. well they don't want the media that's because i think what they're what they're up to in there is absolutely is no good we have to look at what nato is up to and it is very important to understand the very close links between nato and the builder bergs it was set up around about the same time as nato just after the second world war by the cia and the council on foreign relations who've been talking about this during and after world war two and the idea that this

organization is not important not important enough for us to know about this country is just ridiculous around the western world because what's happening here is we are spending our years voting in local and general elections and this arrogant bunch are choosing our party leaders so it almost doesn't matter which way we vote we still find that this secret artificial consensus which is cooked up at these build a big meetings spreads out around the world and it's not just me saying that this is will hutton who actually went to one of these meetings when he was still the editor of the observer newspaper here in britain. well for more on any of these stories we're covering the if you want to see that interview in full you can always log on to our website and of course features and musicality dot com. and explore why for example the ultra orthodox jews in the u.s. believe an end to the state of israel is the only solution to the conflict in the middle east also on the web site of the moment. powerful. but in the putin

spanish police have arrested three men believed to be involved in carrying out cyber attacks on governments and companies including sony and mastercard the suspects have been identified as members of the worldwide hacking group anonymous well this week online talk show host the resident takes to the streets of new york to gauge people's attitude to his. so many intend out even the f.b.i. it seems like no one is safe from hackers these days are these cyberpunks heroes or villains this week let's talk about that technically speaking they are heroes because. everything they are they are from all of the security systems but what if a robber a bank robber is technically. proficient enough to get into a bank does that make him a hero to. the made movies about the police department goes into certain things in
4:20 pm
the government goes into certain things probably i would put that on the same level as i would someone who goes in and hacks into a site they're not supposed to be on their harvest which are five things kind of a theological point because we're just doing illegal activities. i think just to make. careers if it's done really to open the lens to things that should be . i don't have that much of a problem is that it's so subjective though why are we entrusting thieves essentially with making that kind of a judgment call. they use that's a strong word well they're going in and taking people's im information good or bad for the good or bad will if you're if you're going in and you're taking a lot of credit card numbers and credit card accounts and doing that type of thing and you're using that information again hurt private citizens and i don't think that's a good thing have you ever had your personal information had i have actually you
4:21 pm
know and i felt. so violated and trying to control the information and stuff like that it's just. it's an awful feeling to oh i think it's going to get worse much worse because i have five daughters ranging from twenty three down to twelve years old and they're you know they don't think anything's ever going to happen to them and they're out there with all of it and even though the warnings for pain. they're the next generation so if you caught them putting stuff out there and you're like don't put that out there yeah this is cell phone numbers yeah but do you think hackers are villains or heroes the bottom line is if you have information that database someplace consider yourself a potential target. well look at some other world news in brief in our world update this hour spanish police were forced to break up a protest outside the city hall in the capital with three cameras the mayor was
