cueing. taken more from the from of from i.c.u. killing him in front of i.c.u. paying gig his body on the world of general hospital the doctor says people from the national transitional council were behind it this is the rebels official political body set up after the revolution in libya started in the mid february its members are recognized by many countries throughout the world as the only legitimate representatives of libya the very is no i've been very very well been you so you must be. where you are again as. they talk about freedom and democracy there is no freedom or democracy they just want to bury the refugees here say they now finally feel safe but it's not that safe from the side of the frontline either. these people have gathered in the west of tripoli to bury those killed in the air strike in cold until even government officials a bomb landed on a private compound and flattened it killing fifteen people including three kids we

have been calling for peace and negotiation for months and no one wants to listen to us now we have to pay a very heavy price of. casualties civilian casualties and also military casualties i think the time has come for the world to understand that this conflict has to come to an end immediately which is very unlikely to happen any time soon the new dog ground in this symmetry still fresh while nato has already claimed that the operation to protect civilians must go on with clashes continue and benghazi and nato intensify its bombardment of tripoli both eastern and western parts of the country are perilous to say and people are dying on both sides of the front line many on the ground fear that when the democracy the west talks about will finally come here. they lost me enough people left to experience it. were even ocean

martini reporting from western libya. criminals and barbarians is how colonel gadhafi called nato states following of recent airstrike that killed civilians the alliance has said that it regrets the deaths but investigative journalist of michelle call on who only just returned from the water on country just a few days ago he told us here at r.t. that innocent lives mean nothing to the coalition that's only in libya for financial gains they have killed more civilians that the losses from the initials problems there fuels more civilians the little bombings so the real id is not protect civilians the rio de these to achieve the economical strategical interests of their of the west us in europe i mean the oil i mean the financial reserves of libya i remind the us c. is a bankrupt country and also all preventing that kind of fear would be

a sort of turn a used to do i.m.f. some buying for african development the old idea is to make public international opinion accept the idea that nato is a couple of the world know that that nato has the right to make wars where they want to revisit the people in hospitals and we saw victims and indeed the syrian population is attacked that must be very clear it has nothing to do with immunity or and war now ever since the libyan conflict broke out in february that the price of oil has skyrocketed but this thursday black gold has surprisingly dropped and it's funny let's cross over to our business desk and find try find out why. aurore well the main reason that we're seeing this plummet in oil prices is just the decision made by the i.a.e.a. that's the international energy also already they've decided to release strategic reserves and fifty percent of those reserves are being released by the us which means the demand for oil from western nations will drop i'll bring you more on this

story in about fifteen minutes talking to our very good trainer and we will see you soon thanks. well barack obama is rounding up support for his decision to withdraw a large part of the u.s. garrison from afghanistan france says it's also prepared to pull out all of its forces but the news comes amid warnings from military commanders that progress against the taliban is fragile and reversible there's also concern that less soldiers will not mean less collateral damage as he's done each counterpoints less that was numbers there are around one hundred thousand american troops deployed to afghanistan right now thirty thousand of them were added by president obama two years ago now he says by the end of next year the u.s. is going to pull out those thirty thousand troops the drawdown will start this year with some ten thousand troops expected to be withdrawn by december many analysts say it's not a groundbreaking move from a strategic point of view after all he is pulling out what he added at the

beginning of his presidency but ahead of presidential elections coming up next year it might be a face saving move he promised the withdrawals to start this year and he had to deliver the bigger question is what results has his leadership brought so far take a listen we're starting this drawdown from a position of strength. is under more pressure than at any time since nine eleven together with the pakistanis we have taken out more than half of all kind is leadership and thanks to your intelligence professionals and special forces we killed osama bin laden the only leader that al qaeda had ever known here in the u.s. the pressure president obama faces with regards to afghanistan mostly has to do with the enormous war spending and the number of casualties among american troops president obama was elected as a war and but ended up waging more wars and spending more of taxpayers billions on inconclusive battles overseas that's what a lot of americans are frustrated about what doesn't get enough spotlight here it
11:07 am
is actually the results on the ground if you listen to american military officials they are cautiously talking about progress fragile progress is they've. various reports on the ground say insurgency is growing among the afghans the systematic killing of civilians by nato strikes doesn't help experts say many of those now fighting against the allied forces in afghanistan are not that they are not terrorists they are fighting against who they see as invaders after one of the recent strikes that killed a significant number of civilians including children even the u.s. backed afghan president karzai had to make a harsh face saving statement warning nato that if they continue killing civilians the whole of the afghan population will treat them as occupiers we have to understand that the image of karzai is of a pop it doesn't get him it doesn't get again him any popularity at home so he has to take a stand here is what he said a few days ago. that traction there. in
11:08 am
that one do. you need action industry what some find worrying is that these upcoming troop withdrawals the u.s. has actually stepped up airstrikes including growing strikes in afghanistan is thought to be part of this twenty first century intelligent war strategy you know when you have no troops on the ground no deaths of your soldiers to justify at home so it becomes possible to wage a war without having to face all these accountability issues so many afghans are worried that less troops doesn't necessarily mean less bombs on their homes it's a common thing in the u.s. media for example when they talk about the war losses they just give nato losses very rarely do they mention the number of afghan civilians killed and that number is so many times higher experts say apart from civilians killed another thing that contributes to growing insurgency in afghanistan is the failure to effectively deal with the drug issue since the invasion in two thousand and one drug production
11:09 am
there has increased enormously and it's known that some of that vast drug trade income goes to terrorists so many see americans war on terror as a double edged sword when it's fighting and provoking terror at the same time. artie's gun a chicken reporting that right there now far right dutch politician heard of hilda's has been acquitted over charges of inciting hate and discrimination he faced five separate counts following a controversial speech that he gave attacking islam and comparing it to not cism but the court ruled his comments fell within the boundaries of legitimate political debate m.e.p. paul nuttall from the u.k. independence party believes the whole case has been a farce. well first let me just say i think it was a disgrace that he was put on trial to begin with i think it's a victory for free speech i think it's a victory for common sense i think the fact that builders' is on the twenty four hour. most like a rest shall we say he's in fear of his life he can't go out without an armed guard

i think that says something about radical islam across europe and radical islam which threatens people needs to be dealt with a needs to be dealt with forcibly multiculturalism has failed for many years now it was something which was born out of the one nine hundred seventy s. and the idea that you can have different communities living side by side who never integrate who don't share the same culture don't share the same language is never going to work what it will do is it will increase the power base of the far right across europe what we need is integration yes multiracialism but let's say no to multiculturalism when in rome we play by roman rules this is the way we do you know in britain this is the situation that we have and this is british culture and this is british way of life we shouldn't be changing ourselves for those to the people who come to britain to fit in with those it should in effect be the other way around what we need is integration what we need is a shared culture a shared value and what we need to get rid of is multicultural multiculturalism which divides people and bring people together. you with r.t.

any t.v. station from here anything that goes on air is broadcast and from now on the brand new channel r.t. documentary will take its permanent place on one of these screens hoping it will become a favorite across the globe. gary pushed over r.t. moscow. now some hollywood glamour is being sprinkled on the russian capital today as the thirty third international film festival kicks off right here in moscow the hotly anticipated world premiere of the third transformers movie will open the event seventeen films will compete against each other for the prestigious st george's gong over the course of the next ten days or so of course live to our correspondent peter all of us who are following all the action for us. hi peter so what's it like on the red carpet which strangely appears to be green and who have you seen so far and who's still to come. well that's right it's a green carpet not a red carpet but it's still doing exactly the same job as you would imagine
11:16 am
a fantastic atmosphere here in central moscow ahead of the opening of the thirty for thirty third international film festival here in the russian capital plenty of fans come out to greet the great in the good in the glitz and the glamour a lot of them over here right now how you all doing. there enjoying themselves i certainly am it's not a bad day's work when you get sent here great atmosphere we've seen a lot of the stars entering into the cinema just behind me at pushkin square in the center of the russian capital we seem sheila both the star of the transformers movie also michael bay the director of those films i think he might still be back there signing autographs some way he was mobbed by fans as he entered. or as peter to tell us what films are the most hotly anticipated by the critics and the public at the festival. well the film starts and ends with two great films to create the highly anticipated movies transformers three get things under way today
11:17 am
and then it ends with the debt a thriller spy thriller that will end the festival but there's some great movies to see of course we go outside of the competition there's also the competition for the golden george last much wanted statue that you get for winning this bosko film festival there's also some great films now i'm a bit biased it is an international film festival i've picked out two british movies that i believe all of do very very well one of them is already won the best movie award at the sunspots the on film festival this year that's needs a drama about well known educated delinquents about young people in scotland that's supposed to be a very very good film also the biopic of the of the british playwright andrea dunbar now that's supposed to be a very gritty biopic a very heartwarming biopic it was nominated for a bafta that's something that i'm definitely going to be trying to see that movie is called called the arbor set in bradford in northern england should be something
11:18 am
brilliant to see there but also you know the movie that i really want to check out is the angels of evil and the tally and movie about gangsters in the seventy's and the like a gangster movie can you can also get rundown of the films there are certainly some stiff competition but tell us who tipped to pick up the gong the prestigious and georges gong. well exactly who gets the big prize now if i was a betting man i would be looking towards american translation french movie a a a a classic romance tale of young love with a bit of a twist when it turns out that one of those young lovers has a tendency to kill people very gritty drama supposed to be a little bit raunchy as well so that's really my tips for you to win it but i don't get to make those decisions there is a panel of of really the people that know what they're talking about the judges here now they're headed up by geraldine chaplin now if you made a guess. from that last name she does know i think it's you about the movie business she's the daughter of the great charlie chaplin so i'm sure she knows
11:19 am
a thing or two about a thing or two when it comes to picking good villains she'll be deciding who picks up that prestigious golden george at the end of the festival i think it would have to see how it goes over the next ten days indeed stiff competition as you were saying. thank you. while the aging a tuple of one three four airliner will be permanently grounded in russia by next year the order was given by president medvedev who said that a forced replacement program must begin so the plane can be finally retired from service the decision was taken following a crash of one of the jets in russia's northwest on monday forty five people died in that incident and seven others were badly injured preliminary data points towards pilot error as the main cause of the tragedy. white let's check out some other international news we have for you this hour and hundreds of syrian refugees are reportedly fleeing across the border into turkey following the deployment of government troops in the area witnesses say soldiers
11:20 am
backed by tanks and snipers have entered her but jus' a village along the turkish border more than thirteen hundred people have reportedly been killed in clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces since march. in peru three people have been killed and thirty two injured in clashes between students and police during a street protests crowds how to block the streets of the city and burned three regional government offices police used tear gas and rubber bullets to prevent them storming the local police headquarters students have been good over plans to build a new university in the region which they claim could divert funds from their institution. or you're up to date here on r t next though with the latest from the world of business with katrina that's in just a. hello
11:21 am
and welcome to the business bulletin here on r.t. oil prices are dropping sharply that's after the international energy agency made a surprise announcement that sixty million barrels of oil would be released from strategic reserves fifty percent of this will come from the from the u.s. with other major economies providing the wrist will be released in volumes of two million barrels per day it's only the third time in history that the i.a.e.a. has sanctioned the release of reserves the move is intended to want to set the lost production from libya which is currently engulfed in civil war brant crude is currently down around six percent at one hundred seven dollars a barrel. to discuss the oil market i'm joined now by nick parsons head of market strategy at national strategy right thanks for joining us here on our scenic first
11:22 am
off was this a surprise to you. it is a surprise in terms of its absolute timing as you mentioned in your introduction it's only the third time it's ever been used the first time was in the first gulf war the second was after katrina and i don't think anyone really expected this certainly if it did not been a surprise the oil market wouldn't have fallen six percent in the course of a little over ninety minutes is afternoon now why do you think the eye is releasing reserves when alice is saying that the market is already well supplied. two reasons the first of these relates to the global economy and bear in mind that central banks around the world central banks and governments alike are fairly alarmed at the prospect of rising inflation and oil prices are a major contributor a factor here they certainly don't want to drive their economies back into recession. by overtightening interest rates in order to deal with inflation so
11:23 am
working directly at the root cause of these price increases i think is a very very shrewd move so the first reason is because they're concerned with inflation i think the second reason is also to show that the balance of power across the world doesn't lie entirely with opec and i think the opec decision fifteen days ago that was taken not to increase production i think did actually upset many people around the world so partly it's about power it's also about inflation now do you think that i think should he this is a warning that prices are getting too high. or prices have already been coming down from the peak and i think it's fairly clear by these actions that the governments that are behind the i would like indeed to see prices come lower still so i think it's as i mentioned it's partly a power play but i think it also does reflect a more deep seated desire to do something about inflation globally and we're also

seeing other commodity commodities for why is that well you're absolutely right it's not just oil that has fallen if you look right across the range of commodities be they base metals by the industrial raw materials whether it's cocoa or orange juice you name it everything is down today in fact an index of nineteen of the most widely trade traded commodities is already down twelve percent from its peak and actually below the average of the last two hundred days for the first time in almost a year so it is going to drag other commodities down i think that that. the whole commodities space tends to move warm on occasions and i think we are going to see further downward pressure across all of the commodity space here now this is a one off event can we really expect it to be positive for economic growth and developed economies. well it's not going to be a negative whether or not it proves enduring remains to be seen but i think the
11:25 am
very fight of the rarity of this event and as we mentioned though it's only the third time in twenty years the and the fact that it was so unexpected will continue to keep traders on the defensive now and i think the idea that we can push prices up indefinitely is going to be seen as a thing of the past or a relic from the days that were and i don't i think this is going to be a positive for growth it could actually endure far more than some of the skeptics might suggest right now well thank you very much for your views next passons from a stray at national strategy a bank. and that's all the business for this hour we'll be back with more in just under an hour's time stay with us the headlines next.
